Choy Fu Fish and Chip Bar in Dacorum

Although arrived within stated time slot, this was far too long and phone just kept going to answer phone so no way of getting hold of anyone so had no option but to wait.

Too long for delivery, on a weeknight

We used to order from Choy Fu twice a week for a long time, then the standards dropped. For the first time in a while we decided to try it again but sadly it's even worse than when we last tried it. It will be even longer before we try it again.

Don’t like giving bad reviews but I’m only being honest, Food wasn’t great, it’s was bland and had not much flavour. Rice tasted like it came out of the microwave! Shame as it was the first time ordering from here and it will end up being the last.

First time having fish n chips from here, really impressed!!

Ordered 1/2 crispy duck, chicken curry and egg fried rice. Thought I'd got the wrong order at first because the duck was taken off the bone along with the pancakes in a single container. Did save having to take the duck off the bone at home, but not crispy. The cucumber/spring onion portion was a bit small. The curry was ok, but the rice was a disappointment. It was greasy and loads of soy sauce was added. Not only did it make the rice very salty but it looked horrible and influenced the flavour of the curry. Looked like a container of meal worms. Finally, most of the rice grains were broken, not whole. It's a shame because we didn't enjoy our meal for those reasons, but it could be easily rectified. Personal preference I guess!

Got takeaway from here, overall everything of a decent quality, no particular dish was exceptional but all decent and scratches the Chinese takeaway itch. The only thing I would say is they should be slightly more careful with the curry sauce as it had leaked in the bag and the colour stained my surfaces. Took 1 hour to come, we live 2 minutes away but benefit of the doubt as they may have been busy.

Food piping hot and always tasty and early

Only criticism I have is that my Beef chow mein did not have know Any Beef in it apart from that the rest of the meal was lovely

Have been used this Chinese takeaway for years and they never disappoint. Food is tasty, generous portions and isn’t too greasy. Keep up the good work!

Absolute joke. Order was 50 minutes late. Kiddie portions, no spice, no flavor. Wouldn’t be shocked if it came from the freezer. Don’t order here, absolute waste of money.

The most disgusting Chinese food I've ever had black bean sauce was just like water and smelt terrible so much so I couldn't even begin to eat tried the chow mean just tasted fowl Total waste of 18 quid avoid at all cost!!!

Sadly disappointing. £18 for half a crispy duck which arrived pre-chopped, not shredded and in a plastic box so was soggy and not crispy. Also very small portion compared to other restaurants. Spare ribs were dry with very little, tasteless sauce. All in all very disappointing for such a large expensive order. Won't be using again.

I ordered egg fried rice chickens balls and bbq sause however the chicken balls were over cooked covered in oil and the rice was bland and the eggs burnt and rubbery like no one’s business complete waste of money

The driver couldn’t find my house but they were really good about it & someone else rushed it over. It was annoying for sure but Choy Fu are my go to Chinese take out. The food still arrived hot & was delicious.

Sweet and sour chicken balls had lots of batter around them . Hardly any chicken inside .

Food was good, delivery time was good. However I just wished they read the comments on how I wanted my Chow main.

Honestly the worst chinese experience I've ever had, food was terrible. Everything is clearly fried in the same frier as it all tastes the same, chow mein was the only decent part. The chicken balls undercooked, chips overcooked.

I left notes and I called to double check these The lady on the phone repeated them back to me and still didn't do what I had asked Maybe one off as Christmas eve.

Really lovely Chinese food. I was initially put off by the 'fish and chip bar' title but this is easily better than most of the other Hemel restaurants we've tried over the years. The Chilli Beef and Chicken Balls are much better than those we've had at other places recently. We'll be coming back!

Yes they have nice food but Christ almighty the prices keep going up!! 3 times they’ve changed the prices, surprised they are still going, at this rate the business won’t be so good if they just ramp up the prices all the time! Disgusting…….

Not particularly good unfortunately. Rice was over cooked and the meat/chicken boiled and tasteless.

Just ordered a take away and it was one of the best hot & sour soups and crispy beef I have ever had from a take away! Highly recommend 🥢👍🏻

Staff are always polite, food arrives hot and well packaged and driver always has a smile. Chinese food is very taste, Fish and Chip side can be hit and miss depending on time of day you order.

Our order never arrived but the restaurant took our money. Never experienced this before. Outrageous. I called after waiting almost 2 hours and they said our food was out for delivery. It never came and then the restaurant closed. Wouldn't recommend ordering from here for delivery unless you want to stolen from!!

Spoilt by the disgusting sweet and sour sauce. It was brown and like vinegar. Such a shame as the food was good but this has put me off.

Very good and excellent prices

Excellent Chinese takeaway. Very tasty. Arrives on time, the ingredients are decent quality. You can tell the rice and noodle dishes are cooked in fresh oil / pans. Meat isn’t fatty, or gristle. Really like ordering from here and have done so for over a year now, and been good every time.

Our first visit and really enjoyed the food. Chow mein and curry were especially nice, but all well cooked and very tasty!

The worst Chinese ever had in Hemel curry bland chips over cooked awful first time there and the last time sure was better with the other owners never again

Low quality food that will losen your Bowels and sauce that might as well be dirty dish water. It has no consistency or flavour. Rang to rectify the matter and I was given the same low quality food given to me then laughed at. I will never be ordering from here again and will be letting everyone I know how this establishment has such low quality service all round.

The food is always very tasty, and delivered quickly. It arrives hot, so doesn't need reheating. That's why we order from Choy Fu at least once per week. Highly recommended.

Amazing food... I am bit sceptical when it comes to Chinese restaurants, but Choy Fu has forced me to change my perception. The food was most delicious and prepared to perfection. It was delivered well within time and was still steaming... I will definitely be ordering again...

Just had chicken chop suey, the chicken was slimy, as were the noodles too. Zero taste. Worst take away I’ve ever had. Can say I will not ever go there again.

Banging Chinese. Best takeaway Chinese Ive had in some considerable time. The Singapore noodles are really fresh and actually have flavour. Chicken balls light crispy and perfectly cooked, no rubbery or worrying pink here! Husband said the ribs were absolutely spot on and done the way they should be instead of cut too small. Chicken wings were demolished. Rice cooked well. Delivered well hot, fresh and early. Happy days had a few now and definitely will be back again! Such a find.

Just had Cod & Chips from Choy Fu - WOW! really delicious. Beautifully cooked while waiting, so nice and hot. Large portions. EXCELLENT!

I had a very poor experience when I came here, chips were cold. Long time serving up with no-one else around. Wouldn't recommend at all.

Went in at 9.15pm. ordered one large and one small cod and large chips. all cooked quick. when we got home we were so surprisingly happy with what we got tasted lovely. The picture is of the small cod at £3.60...good price aswell. will go again

Fantastic food kids love the £3.50 cod chips and drink deal. The cod they give you is massive too big enough for an adult. Well worth a try trust me.

Really enjoy the food. We order chicken sweet and sour balls, they were well friend and with a good piece of chicken inside. We also order a prawn dish which came with a generous amount of prawns. The vegetable rice was very nice too and with a good amount of bits. The price was fair and the delivery fast enough. I have tried other Chinese takeaway in Hemel and I have to say that this is the one I have liked the most so far. Well done!!

Recently re opened .the owner works really hard and I've all ways had good food .especially the Chinese take away

It's OK nothing special and overpriced for what you are paying for.. Chow mein was OK, duck OK.. Rice is rice.... Crispy Shredded Beef was very poor, seaweed was poor, Chinese Chicken was OK. It all was a bit cold and cost £24 (no free crackers either)
