Incredible food, well priced and such a beautiful location!

An excellent lunch for my birthday - very good food, well priced and good service from our waitress Georgia. Easy to park which is a plus, and lovely setting. We will be back!

We went for a Sunday roast, but unfortunately, it turned out to be quite disappointing. I ordered the roast chicken, while my wife had the trio roast dinner. When the food arrived, my immediate reaction was, “That’s a bit small,” especially considering we were paying £20 or more per meal. There was little to no gravy, and my portion consisted of just a single chicken breast—not even half a roast chicken. The sides were minimal: a tiny amount of swede, a small pinch of red cabbage, and just two roast potatoes that weren’t even crispy. They also forgot to include the stuffing with my meal. The Yorkshire pudding was large, but without gravy, it tasted dry and unappetizing. I raised these concerns with the staff, who brought over the manager. He explained that the chicken was a chicken supreme and that portion sizes were controlled because most customers order starters and desserts. However, he didn’t offer any solutions, such as an extra drink or an alternative dish. Although staff members came to check if everything was alright, their concern felt hollow, as nothing was done to address the issues. To put things into perspective, my wife—who is a petite 5’1” woman—managed to finish the entire trio roast by herself, which speaks volumes about the portion sizes. After finishing our meal, no one came over to ask if we wanted dessert or to bring the bill. It felt like we were simply being ignored. In the end, the bill came to £53, yet I still left feeling hungry. I’ve been here a couple of time previously and was Expecting this experience to be much better than what it actually was.

Fantastic Valentine’s Day meal at Bricklayer’s Arms. The scallop starter was delicious and the tuna tartar is one of the best I’ve had. Main course of seabass was also amazing. Great service from Leila as well. Great experience as always, in fact I have yet to have a bad meal here!

The Bricklayers Arms is an amazing place to visit, me and my partner have visited a good few times and we always really look forward to it! The food is absolutely amazing, staff are lovely and so helpful! We had a really lovely meal tonight for my partners birthday, highly recommend.

Wonderful food and service really warm welcome on Sunday! A lovely roast lunch and an enjoyable experience from the moment we arrived. We ordered scallops and roast lunch. Both were cooked to perfection. Quality and quantity was excellent. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and our lovely waitress was very attentive and personable. We would very much recommend a meal at The Bricklayers.

We waited a long time for service and the food was disappointing. Tasteless chips and overcooked /hard batter on fish. My pork helping was tiny and it all felt a bit tired. Underwhelmed.

Lunch with friends sounded great but sadly this venue did not meet expectations at all. Staff were friendly and table was comfortable but the food was a big disappointment. Starter selected were scalops which were OK but portion was very small and for £16 , represented poor value. The mains were a roast lunch which sounded nice but sadly was very poor. The chicken looked and tasted pretty raw and the beef and pork was chewy and cold. Worst of all the vegetables were tasteless, roast potatoes were hard and must have been cooked the previous day, the Yorkshire pudding was hard and over cooked. So all in all an expensive mistake, we will not be going back.

Waited a while to be seated even though we had booked. Slow service, polite enough but a general air of complacency and lack of attention to detail. Waited so long to get the waitress’s attention after mains in the end we gave up and skipped desert. Waitress didn’t seemed concerned they looked like they had switched off for the day and were busy chatting amongst themselves. We had a similar experience previously with slow service and a messed up order. Thought I’d give it another go. Food quality is generally ok not special occasion good though. More decent pub grub with flaky service. Could be great

Great meal at a lovely country pub. Our waitress Ella was very attentive!

Lovely and friendly staff, but the food took ages to arrive and when it did it was over-salted; desserts were terrible - cold custard and undercooked crumble. Very expensive for what should have been a treat but was massively underwhelming in an otherwise lovely location with nice staff.

Had a great Sunday lunch here today , best way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon in January. Staff all very helpful , Leila did a great job today , hope there was some cauliflower cheese left to take home ..Alfie appreciated the pub being dog friendly too 😀

Lovely pub and restaurant. Excellent menu variety including vegetarian and vegan options. Big and varied wine list including wine by the glass - plus good selection of beers. Superb food. Service very efficient and friendly. Decent value. Thoroughly recommend.

We had a very enjoyable Christmas Day lunch, my only thing I would change is the turkey roll should have been carved into slices rather than cut into 4 large chunks. It made it look mass produced and not particularly attractive. Well done the staff they worked very hard and were cheerful and professional. The Christmas crackers were the best I have experienced for a long time.

We popped in on a very wet wintry Sunday lunchtime. I ordered the bream and my husband ordered the Sunday roast. Both dishes came quick and were very tasty. Arthur our dog was welcome too. Etta and her colleagues took good care of us. (We were getting a little worried seeing the flooding outside. I hope it didn’t affect the building eventually.)

Really enjoyed our first visit to The Bricklayers Arms. Lovely roast dinner & I had the fish which I really enjoyed. Highlight for us was probably the desserts though - so nice! Served by Laila who was lovely. Will be returning regularly thanks x also fantastic to be able to bring our dogs!! So please always stay dog friendly

We had a great time at The Bricklayer's Arms. We visited with 2 relatives from Canada. The atmosphere and food were superb. Our server Leila was attentive, checked constantly and made sure our drinks were always full.

The Bricklayers is probably one of he best gastropubs I have ever been to. The food is spectacular. It's nothing short of magic. My father in law, who is often white frugal with praise said 'the food is very good here'. High raide indeed from a man often quite muted. The service is fabulous. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. An all round treat and worth every penny. The wine it is also brilliant..Where else can you get a château batailley by the glsss

Everything was as good as we expected, Great food, excellent service and the perfect atmosphere for Christmas.

Went there for a Christmas day pint with family. Had a well poured Guiness and enjoyed some engaging company. Well done Hayden and team!

Lovely food and lovely service. Very warm and cosy pub. We were served by Etta who welcomed us and made us feel at home on Christmas Eve. We shared a few small plates which were all excellent- especially the bread pudding. Would definitely come back.

Sixteen of our family shared a delightful Xmas lunch after a country walk

Having been to The Bricklayers Arms once before, and rated the food 5 stars, I can only give it 4 stars on this occasion. I should have read the menu more clearly, but was astonished that the Turkey turned out to be Turkey ‘rolls’. It was ok but as a ‘roast dinner’ I felt short-changed. The Crumble & Custard too lacked sparkle. Still better than average pub fayre but not top-drawer.

A lovely morning spent with my family including our 4 year old granddaughter. The breakfast was very good with a good choice of food and great service. Very festive and Santa was great with the little ones. Recommended.

Went for lunch and had starters and main courses. Starters small. Only 2 pieces of bread/underdone toast for a portion of mackerel pate. Three small scallops, yes 3 scallops for £16! And an arancini portion again of three, these tasted dry and of nothing certainly not of the cheese and wild mushrooms they were meant to contain. For mains we had 2 fish and chips. The fish itself was lovely but batter was way too hard and thick. Accompanied by the smallest pot of peas and some odd tasting chunky potato type wedges. The other main was a steak which was cooked ok and tasted nice but again the accompanying sides let it down. Have visited this pub before for Mother’s Day and the food was fantastic, note sure what has happened. Service was good and we had a lovely server called Grace who was friendly and attentive.

Attentive and courteous service by our waitress Etta. Nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant was very busy and we were a party of 9.

The team managed to cater for our family table of 12. They took our orders quickly and managed to get all food out at the same time, and still hot. They also didn't pressure us to finish, even though we took up a sizable area of the restaurant. Food was really nice and well cooked. There were plenty of options to choose from, including vegetarian meals. Parking was OK for all of us, but I can imagine in summer months it'll be harder.

Good food; teething issues with plating & ensuring all plates are consistent. I was missing red cabbage; the rest of the group were missing roast potatoes. Etta was our server and looked after us well.

We had the triple roast. The pork was all fat, barely any meat and absolutely no crackling. We could tell what was beef and what was lamb (did we actually get the triple?). The veg was just plain strange and the roast potatoes were just simply grey and barely roasted and not exactly light and crispy. I have given 2 stars as the stick toffee pudding was actually good. A real disappointment as the Bricklayers was one of our favourite places to eat.

Good lunch with very good service. Wednesday, so pretty quiet. Carpet at entrance needs replacing - bad first impression. Restaurant is expensive for a cheap meal, but not quite at destination experience level.

Very disappointed, went there tonight for dinner with the family, the menu had changed a week ago and the waitress didn't know anything about the menu, the drinks were overpriced and my daughter got there early at the table and was told someone would take there drinks order, she waited 20 minutes and had to go ip to the bar as no-one came. Service was very slow and they weren't busy. All in all I'd say the food was nice but again overpriced. We won't be going back.

Been a while since I visited. New Menu. Had an excellent meal…Makerel rillette, ox cheek. Best triple cooked chips I’ve had in a long while. They’ve up their game. Hope it continues.

whilst we love the experience usually, there are a fee points that we feel you need to be aware of. we had to wait around 45 minutes for our table. the service was average, food put on the table, no enquiry if we needed any condiments, just plates on table and disappear. after we'd eaten our luke warm Sunday roasts the plates were cleared without the usual 'was everything ok, did you enjoy your meal etc' My wife's comment was I won't be rushing back for a while'. which is a shame because the whole experience did not measure up to what we have been used to in the past.

Excellent service meal arrived quickly and piping hot. Trout was delicious well presented. Great choice of ales loved the Ramblers Rest will certainly visit again.

So i wasn’t going to write a review but the restaurant emailed me and asked for my feedback so here it is. I have been to the brick layers arms 3 or 4 times over the last 4 years and the last recent one was 2 months ago and I was always blown away by the food. Tuesday night was not the same story, half the menu was out of stock dispute us being the first table to order food, we were offered chicken burgers as an alternative but asked if they would have breading or coating on them and not just be a plain chicken breast in a bun, they said it will not be a plain chicken in a bun so 3 of us ordered that. When it came it was just a blank plain piece of chicken with some burger sauce in a bun, it was so dry and tasteless and the worse thing was, it was not cheap or discounted due to most menu items unavailable. They then came and asked how the food was so we told them we were unhappy. At no point did any manager or anyone come over to see if they could make up For this. No discount or free dessert was offered and that was the final straw for me £50 a head for bland dry food. I will not be returning. We always go as a table of 4-6 people so it wasn’t a cheap meal out!

Whilst this place is fairly pricey, the food is absolutely fantastic. This is not your standard pub grub, but high end artisan food for conisours of quality dining. When I look at their menu, there are some seemingly quirky twists to a lot of their dishes but honestly, it always tastes amazing. I have eaten here a fair number of times and have never once been disappointed. For every weird sounding match, the tastes have always been complimentary on the tongue. I would say this place is worth going out of your way for and that it is worth every penny. We had : Game Terrine Lamb Best End Chicken Raspberry and Rhubarb Frobis Sticky Toffee Pudding

Visited for the first time for lunch on my birthday ….great welcome, wonderful meal, lovely venue and surprised by a birthday candle dessert. Will return!

Website needs to give more information eg. more dishes, starters, mains prices not a few pictures with no description or price. Very disappointed, shall not be holding any family events with you.

I recently revisited this lovely old pub, where I had previously, a few years ago, given it a 2 star rating for a pretty awful Sunday lunch which I have now taken down. Having decided to give it another visit I am very happy to report that everything about this experience was first class. The food delicious and well presented, the service professional, friendly and efficient and the ambience exactly what you hope for in a full English pub. Finally, the bill was entirely acceptable in these times of everything costing more.

Lovely little pub, in a quiet lane. Staff friendly and attentive. My food experience was not so good. The menu is a little sparse, so plumped for the haddock and chips. Fish had zero flavour apart from oil, I couldn't eat it because of this. In defence of the pub, they removed it from our bill, which I wasn't expecting them to do. I will return to dine again here, as this may have been a one-off instance. I would recommend a visit here, no place is perfect and it is such a nice pub.

It's a very pretty building. An abundance of beautiful flowers on display outside. Food was incredible.

Having dined here many times with no complaints i am sad to say this weeks Sunday lunch was the exact opposite. I know mother nature cannot be controlled but our lunch was ruined by an inordinate amount of flies in the restaurant . Having been sat near the open double doors and two adjacent windows which were open we were bombarded by flies as soon as our food arrived . As i said i am aware this probably happens only a few times a year but there are insect catching devices on the market or even certain scented candles which could be used to reduce the problem , at the very least the doors or windows could have been closed or we could of been offered another table in another part of the restaurant as there was only two of us and it was very quiet . We did complain only to be told it had been like it all day and they were very sorry . Im sorry if you’re aware of a problem at least try to do something about it . And to top it off there was no colliflower cheese on the menu due to supply issues .as I said at the beginning we have had no problems before but I fear it may be a while before we return.

The crab bruchette was really hard, the liver parfait was dry. No one came to check on how the food was or offer dessert menu and took ages to get staff attention to ask for the bill so was a bit disappointed

Lovely looking pub , nice that server could talk passionately about their menu. Unfortunately , nothing special (gastro) about the meal. Parfait & croquettes were lovely , all else at best average . We had the fish and chips , burger ( overcooked), chicken and mushroom fluerette ( undercooked pastry and too many mushrooms. Also , need to find a way to keep the flies and wasps out of the restaurant - very annoying , and the feedback that "oh yes, there's horses in the next field " was not the answer expected when raised. Glad we came to try, but will not return.

The Bricklayers Arms is usually excellent but on this occasion was not as good as usual. The wait between courses was very long and the food while good was not at its usual level. To be fair the staff did apologise for the waiting times and I understand that two staff went sick at short notice and it was busy. Having said all that there was an offer on meaning the price was reduced by 50 per cent so cannot complain and will still continue to visit this great pub.

Yesterday we had an excellent lunch, sitting in the sunshine. The food was delicious and well presented, the service was friendly and helpful. We look forward to our next visit on 21st September, for my husband Paul's birthday

I've been to the Bricklayers Arms a few times over the years and it has always been excellent. Today I took my mum there for lunch and everything was outstanding. Lovely friendly and professional service from Hayden & Ella, fantastic, delicious, top class dishes, and very very good value for money. I usually prefer meat when eating out and indulging myself a bit, but I was so happy with the trout in a sumptuous lobster bisque. And the chocolate fondant was the best I have had, with a glorious soft and unctuous texture, not too oozy (ie uncooked in the middle) like it often is I am going to go more often!

When you pay £18 for haddock and chips and they serve a piece of haddock in a soft beer batter and on top of 7 chips! Pork crackling sent out not crackling but soft pork rind. This and a ‘pavlova’ made using a bought meringue nest approximately 40mm in diameter filled with cold custard and a raspberry placed on the top as the dessert with a scoop of ice cream. The portion closer to a child’s portion and nothing I have ever seen as pavlova. Sticky toffee pudding dry and unpleasant. We were not the only ones leaving this dry dessert as your waiting staff will have noticed. Where to stop…… Totally disappointing meal that is over priced and should result in the pub looking at both menu, pricing and kitchen staff. Sad as our hosts had praised and talked the pub up and were left embarrassed and equally disappointed.

What a disappointing meal. Roast Lamb full of gristle, Roast Pork x 2 - dry and difficult to eat, Fish and Chips - a joke. 7 chips and pathetically small piece of fish. Peas in a minute ramakin. £18.00. A rip off. Summer Pavlova and Sorbet a bit of an insult. £8.00. This Pub used to be wonderful and we brought guests on our recommendation. Sorry not again. What a disappointment.

Lovely birthday lunch for my mother. We were served by Leila who was absolutely lovely. It makes such a difference having someone smily and happy where nothing is too much trouble. It helped make the lunch relaxing and fun.

Worst burger I’ve ever had in my life. Burger was cremated and the bun was stale by a few days.

A lovely looking pub with great staff. However the Sunday roast was one of the worst I’ve ever had. Interestingly the manager was gathering feedback as apparently the menu is new.. the Yorkshire pudding dry, the roast potatoes soggy, everything generally bland. He appreciated the feedback, and suggested we come back in a month once they’re used to the menu. However no compensation was offered for a terrible meal, so I don’t see why we would. Very unfortunate as the food previously in these reviews looks like it was good. Go here for a drink, but not food.
