Been a while since I visited. New Menu. Had an excellent meal…Makerel rillette, ox cheek. Best triple cooked chips I’ve had in a long while. They’ve up their game. Hope it continues.

whilst we love the experience usually, there are a fee points that we feel you need to be aware of. we had to wait around 45 minutes for our table. the service was average, food put on the table, no enquiry if we needed any condiments, just plates on table and disappear. after we'd eaten our luke warm Sunday roasts the plates were cleared without the usual 'was everything ok, did you enjoy your meal etc' My wife's comment was I won't be rushing back for a while'. which is a shame because the whole experience did not measure up to what we have been used to in the past.

Exceptional food, well priced and friendly staff. Made my wife's birthday a lovely treat for us. We will definitely be back. Only slight bit of feedback is that you ask for our reason for visit then dont do anything with it. Something as simple as wishing her a happy birthday (doesn't need anything gifting to us, just an acknowledgement that you've read the booking) could make the experience even better.

Whilst this place is fairly pricey, the food is absolutely fantastic. This is not your standard pub grub, but high end artisan food for conisours of quality dining. When I look at their menu, there are some seemingly quirky twists to a lot of their dishes but honestly, it always tastes amazing. I have eaten here a fair number of times and have never once been disappointed. For every weird sounding match, the tastes have always been complimentary on the tongue. I would say this place is worth going out of your way for and that it is worth every penny. We had : Game Terrine Lamb Best End Chicken Raspberry and Rhubarb Frobis Sticky Toffee Pudding

So i wasn’t going to write a review but the restaurant emailed me and asked for my feedback so here it is. I have been to the brick layers arms 3 or 4 times over the last 4 years and the last recent one was 2 months ago and I was always blown away by the food. Tuesday night was not the same story, half the menu was out of stock dispute us being the first table to order food, we were offered chicken burgers as an alternative but asked if they would have breading or coating on them and not just be a plain chicken breast in a bun, they said it will not be a plain chicken in a bun so 3 of us ordered that. When it came it was just a blank plain piece of chicken with some burger sauce in a bun, it was so dry and tasteless and the worse thing was, it was not cheap or discounted due to most menu items unavailable. They then came and asked how the food was so we told them we were unhappy. At no point did any manager or anyone come over to see if they could make up For this. No discount or free dessert was offered and that was the final straw for me £50 a head for bland dry food. I will not be returning. We always go as a table of 4-6 people so it wasn’t a cheap meal out!

I recently revisited this lovely old pub, where I had previously, a few years ago, given it a 2 star rating for a pretty awful Sunday lunch which I have now taken down. Having decided to give it another visit I am very happy to report that everything about this experience was first class. The food delicious and well presented, the service professional, friendly and efficient and the ambience exactly what you hope for in a full English pub. Finally, the bill was entirely acceptable in these times of everything costing more.

Lovely little pub, in a quiet lane. Staff friendly and attentive. My food experience was not so good. The menu is a little sparse, so plumped for the haddock and chips. Fish had zero flavour apart from oil, I couldn't eat it because of this. In defence of the pub, they removed it from our bill, which I wasn't expecting them to do. I will return to dine again here, as this may have been a one-off instance. I would recommend a visit here, no place is perfect and it is such a nice pub.

Having dined here many times with no complaints i am sad to say this weeks Sunday lunch was the exact opposite. I know mother nature cannot be controlled but our lunch was ruined by an inordinate amount of flies in the restaurant . Having been sat near the open double doors and two adjacent windows which were open we were bombarded by flies as soon as our food arrived . As i said i am aware this probably happens only a few times a year but there are insect catching devices on the market or even certain scented candles which could be used to reduce the problem , at the very least the doors or windows could have been closed or we could of been offered another table in another part of the restaurant as there was only two of us and it was very quiet . We did complain only to be told it had been like it all day and they were very sorry . Im sorry if you’re aware of a problem at least try to do something about it . And to top it off there was no colliflower cheese on the menu due to supply issues .as I said at the beginning we have had no problems before but I fear it may be a while before we return.

Lovely looking pub , nice that server could talk passionately about their menu. Unfortunately , nothing special (gastro) about the meal. Parfait & croquettes were lovely , all else at best average . We had the fish and chips , burger ( overcooked), chicken and mushroom fluerette ( undercooked pastry and too many mushrooms. Also , need to find a way to keep the flies and wasps out of the restaurant - very annoying , and the feedback that "oh yes, there's horses in the next field " was not the answer expected when raised. Glad we came to try, but will not return.

The Bricklayers Arms is usually excellent but on this occasion was not as good as usual. The wait between courses was very long and the food while good was not at its usual level. To be fair the staff did apologise for the waiting times and I understand that two staff went sick at short notice and it was busy. Having said all that there was an offer on meaning the price was reduced by 50 per cent so cannot complain and will still continue to visit this great pub.

I've been to the Bricklayers Arms a few times over the years and it has always been excellent. Today I took my mum there for lunch and everything was outstanding. Lovely friendly and professional service from Hayden & Ella, fantastic, delicious, top class dishes, and very very good value for money. I usually prefer meat when eating out and indulging myself a bit, but I was so happy with the trout in a sumptuous lobster bisque. And the chocolate fondant was the best I have had, with a glorious soft and unctuous texture, not too oozy (ie uncooked in the middle) like it often is I am going to go more often!

What a disappointing meal. Roast Lamb full of gristle, Roast Pork x 2 - dry and difficult to eat, Fish and Chips - a joke. 7 chips and pathetically small piece of fish. Peas in a minute ramakin. £18.00. A rip off. Summer Pavlova and Sorbet a bit of an insult. £8.00. This Pub used to be wonderful and we brought guests on our recommendation. Sorry not again. When you pay £18 for haddock and chips and they serve a piece of haddock in a soft beer batter and on top of 7 chips! Pork crackling sent out not crackling but soft pork rind. This and a ‘pavlova’ made using a bought meringue nest approximately 40mm in diameter filled with cold custard and a raspberry placed on the top as the dessert with a scoop of ice cream. The portion closer to a child’s portion and nothing I have ever seen as pavlova. Sticky toffee pudding dry and unpleasant. We were not the only ones leaving this dry dessert as your waiting staff will have noticed. Where to stop…… Totally disappointing meal that is over priced and should result in the pub looking at both menu, pricing and kitchen staff. Sad as our hosts had praised and talked the pub up and were left embarrassed and equally disappointed.

A lovely looking pub with great staff. However the Sunday roast was one of the worst I’ve ever had. Interestingly the manager was gathering feedback as apparently the menu is new.. the Yorkshire pudding dry, the roast potatoes soggy, everything generally bland. He appreciated the feedback, and suggested we come back in a month once they’re used to the menu. However no compensation was offered for a terrible meal, so I don’t see why we would. Very unfortunate as the food previously in these reviews looks like it was good. Go here for a drink, but not food.

Unfortunately a very disappointing experience. One roast lamb was inedible, full of gristle and had to be spat out into a napkin. Almost the whole plate went back (photo attached) and we were not even offered a coffee as an apology. An extremely expensive £98 meal for average starters (asian pork belly with a bitter chicory and parfait) and a frankly below average roast (plus 4 drinks). Came here 2 years ago for one of our first dates and absolutely loved the food and the service etc. we had such great memories of the place. When we eagerly returned this evening we noticed the menu had lost all of its flair. It was very plain and basic with nothing we remembered on it. We thought ok it must still be good so ordered anyway, we had chicken liver to start with brioche bread however the bread served with it just looked like the toast you would typically have at home in the morning and not brioche. My girlfriend had the mushrooms which were actually nice. My steak I ordered rare however this can’t have seen the pan for more than 1 minute as it were completely rare on the inside and grey on the outside with no crust whatsoever. The chimmicurri sauce was underseasoned and not spicy just very vinegary parsley. The duck main course was ok if you don’t mind the sauce from a jar, nothing felt home made or had any love put in compared with what we experienced before. It was like night and day when you compare the previous food, this was very very basic level Wetherspoons food with a high end price tag which I wouldn’t mind paying if the quality were good. Service was ok, staff very friendly and helpful but I can only imagine this business has changed hands and got a new chef because it is truly awful and unfortunately not worth half the price and we won’t be returning

We’ve been here many times and have enjoyed every experience. We enjoyed our visit today even though it was not what we had come to expect from this place. The menu today seemed depleted of its energy and delight. No more home-smoked fish, for example. Three of us wanted sausage and mash, but we were informed that only two portions were available. Then, after we’d ordered, we were told that none was available. I’m sorry, but sausages are not a rare commodity on a Wednesday. Order enough, folks! The fish and chips we substituted were still good, though. Service was very lovely but really slow. Staff were very kind, polite and friendly. Some of our party wanted desserts, but they didn’t have anything hearty like an apple pie or crumble. The offerings seemed a bit too light for our traditional tastes. Last time we were here for lunch my cousin was almost overwhelmed by the amazing steak pie he ordered. He’d have been very disappointed today. It’s a shame to have to give a mediocre review. I don’t like doing it, but, for me, this place needs to get back to its roots: proper, hearty, British food.

We are or were regulars at this lovely pub but last Sunday our meal was disappointing. It looked beautiful, the quantity was so large that we couldn’t finish the plateful BUT … The gravy was tasteless, the various meats we ordered were tasteless and parts of the beef and lamb were tough, the cauliflower cheese was weirdly presented with great chunks of unmelted cheese draped over it and a bland bechamel sauce below. The Yorkshire puds looked fab but were hard and in parts thick and the roasties weren’t crunchy. The starters were all ok. The experience overall was disappointing and we have had much better in the past. For almost £40 a head without alcohol we expect better.

A Delightful Lunch at The Bricklayers Arms: A Fusion of Traditional Charm and Culinary Excellence When my father and I stepped into the Bricklayers Arms, we were greeted by an ambience that effortlessly blended classic pub charm with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. This visit wasn't just another meal; it was a delightful journey through the pub's culinary delights. The highlight of our experience was, without a doubt, the food. We indulged in two of the pub's specialities: the bangers & mash and the ribeye steak. Each dish was a revelation in its own right. The bangers & mash were a comforting embrace of traditional flavours, perfectly executed. The sausages were succulently seasoned, creating a harmonious balance with the creamy, smooth mash. It was a dish that felt like a homage to classic British cuisine, yet with a touch of modern finesse. Then came the ribeye steak, a testament to the chef's prowess. Cooked to perfection, the steak was tender, juicy, and rich in flavour. Every bite was a symphony of taste, confirming that the Bricklayers Arms is not just a pub but a haven for those who appreciate fine food. Beyond the food, the pub offered a sense of ease and convenience, especially with ample parking. This is where one can truly relax, unwind, and savour the joys of good food and good company. In conclusion, the Bricklayers Arms is more than just a pub; it's a destination. Whether you're seeking a cosy spot for a casual meal or a culinary adventure, this gem will impress. Having used this pub many times historically but not for many years we thought we would try it again and enjoy a lunch with our family. From start to finish the whole experience was NOT at all what it used to be. On arrival we were seated at a table in the corner next to a window covered by shut curtains that looked into the kitchen. The only lighting was a row of spot lights that glared down on our table which wasn’t very comfortable. Our waiter then approached to offer us water for the table which he them proceeded to forget until we had to remind when our starters arrived. My husband and I ordered the crab starter which was presented on a very stale piece of toasted bread. We thought we wouldn’t comment and see how the main courses were. Myself I ordered the haddock and chips which arrived on a ludicrously large plate for the size of the fish I was presented with. The fish wasn’t cooked in my opinion and was returned due to the soggy batter and chewy texture. The chips looked like they had been reheated and were soft and not crisp. My son had the same fish and his was cooked however the batter was again soggy and the chips were as he commented worse than school chips!! My fish was re made but arrived 5 minutes later opaque in the middle and barely warm which isn’t ideal for a supposedly deep fried food which should be easy to prepare, I returned this for a second time. I was offered something else from the menu but by then I had lost all confidence. We will not be returning to The Bricklayers Arms anytime soon. The bill after deducting my fish course was £125 including water and a bottle of wine. Very disappointing experience.

What a disappointment, we were looking forward to Bricklayers food as it used to be But the meal was absolutely dreadful. They served up stale bread for which there is no excuse. Bread is cheap and should be fresh every day, that is fundamental to any restaurant. The butter was a crystalised lump with pink powder topping. Waitress said it was whipped butter but it was hard crumbly and disgusting. Waitress changed it for normal butter and sent the bread for toasting as requested to try to save it. Came back slightly toasted but still unpleasant and couldn’t eat it. Asked for it to be taken off the bill which was done at once. Soup was not hot, just luke warm. Dauphinoise potatoes consisted of great big lumps of potato, not sliced and layered as should have been. Cured salmon had small lumps of potato in it presumably as a cheap filling. Sticky toffee pudding was dry in the centre and not microwaved enough. Buttermilk Chicken ordered for a child, had some sort of mayonnaise spread over it and had to be scraped off (unsuccessfully). Nothing wrong with the service by nice young ladies but clearly the restaurant has lost its way and appears to be run by someone who simply doesn’t care. I have now read the other damning reports and wish I had read them first! What a shame, Bricklayers used to be really good.

Booked for New Year’s Day, for my birthday, there were 10 adults 2 children. This was booked weeks ago, so they knew we were coming. Never been here before, only booked due to lots of recommendations on Facebook. Would definitely NOT be returning. Food was vastly overpriced for the quality, chips were limp like they’d been cooked in an air fryer, portions were small for the price they charged. Service was horrendous! We were there for 3 hours for a simple pub dinner! My son had to leave after the main, as my grandchildren were so tired, they had been sitting at a table for over 2 hours. We had to keep asking for more drinks at the bar, ask for desert menus, ask for the table to be cleared, we waited for an hour for our mains. They weren’t busy, I could only see 2 other tables in the pub, but there could have been more. There was one person behind the bar and one waitress, but they obviously could have done with more. Our bill was over £450! Mostly soft drinks, only 3 starters & 3 deserts! They added 10% service charge on, which we asked be removed as we didn’t feel we could reward such terrible service, which they did remove, however, on leaving the man behind the bar asked why we’d ask for it to be removed! Never have I ever been challenged on this issue, most restaurants realise if the OPTIONAL service charge has been removed, they have seriously under delivered. Seriously save your money, go elsewhere.

Fantastic evening at the Bricklayers. Me and my partner visited on 22nd December for a Christmas meal together. We mainly got looked after by a lady we think was called Harriet.. She was warm, friendly and looked after us so well. Everyone at the Bricklayers is very professional and kind. The Bricklayers attention to detail especially in respect of allergies puts you right at ease and makes you feel in safe hands. The presentation of the food was lovely, timing between courses was perfect, and everything was delicious. We had read some mixed reviews from this year about the Bricklayers but please don't be put off going... it has become a really special place for us. Great service, very attentive waiting staff. Good selection of drinks available. Fish and chips very tasty, chicken pie pastry crispy. Perhaps could do with a menu refresh

Absolutely gutted to find the food quality has dropped significantly! Come every December without fail for my husbands birthday. First year that I did no enjoy my meal. Bland starter, dry main and overpriced for that quality of food. I would have been happy paying if it still provided its high standards that it has had for years. But it’s lost it :( Devastated is not the word …. Not sure we will be back next year 😫

One word can sum our experience up - disappointing. Having eaten here before, we were dismayed at the quality of the food. We booked a table for 17:30 and arrived promptly to find our table - plus a highchair - had yet to be prepared. After being shown to our table, we waited around ten minutes to order some drinks and our menu choices. The drinks arrived promptly, but the starter - a Charcuterie board which consisted of a few slithers of meat, bread, and a minuscule pot of olives - came an hour later. Thankfully, we brought some snacks to keep our one-year-old entertained. I can't fathom why or how such an easily prepared board, which would take me five minutes to prepare at home, took so long. The bread had been under the heat lamp for so long that it was inedible and rock solid. Clearly, we had been forgotten about. The board was also very dry - I had to ask for olive oil and balsamic vinegar to make it passable, but it would have been nice to have these on the table or served as part of the dish. Once cleared, and a few laps of the pub to keep the baby entertained for an extra half an hour, our main Sunday roast arrived. It looked OK, but for £20+, I was expecting something with the WOW factor about it. One sorry half carrot added a splash of excitement to the plate, but that was it. We had to leave most of our roast potatoes as the insides were hard. I complained to the waitress, who admitted that at that time of the evening, roast potatoes have often been "stood around" for some time. The pub proudly displayed a copy of the Michelin pub guide on its bar to impress patrons of its standing in the culinary world, with a helpful bookmark to open the guide at 'The Bricklayers Arms', which waxed lyrical about the pub's wonderful food. We thought we were in for a treat, but sadly, it didn't live up to the hype and made for an overall disappointing experience for the family. To sum up, I am keen, happy and proud to spend my money in local businesses in this tough time for the hospitality sector - but when the overall bill came to about the same price as a weekly food shop, why bother when you can cook better at home?

Bit of a let down tonight, food was over cooked, blinis sent back for being black, more than half of the roast potatoes among not eaten due to bring too crispy to the point of being unable to cut, lamb over cooked and a little dry, all in poor show for normally a very good pub.

Gorgeous pub and a gorgeous olde world atmosphere, except for the tacky sign that is. Staff were absolutely wonderful, but the food was one of the worst I/we've had in a pub. My wife and I had their burgers, which were tasteless and overcooked. The salad was lacking in imagination and the chips, I could count on two hands.... My son had the battered cod, which looked like it had been on a diet for six months and came with over cooked peas, watery tartare sauce, and a handful of chips. Now my daughter was more adventurous and went for their calamari dish. The calamari was overdone, and the dish just lacked in imagination. This is the only time I will say this... I would rather have eaten in Wetherspoons. The staff were wonderful...

What a disappointing Sunday roast. Firstly, on arrival, our booking was not on their system, even though we had received an email confirmation. We were given their "last available table". Secondly, the on-line advertised menu price for a roast £17, differed from the actual paper menu (£23) presented to us on arrival. The meat was ok, but my roast pork, was a pork chop, not off a joint. The advertised 'seasonal vegetables' consisted of a few frozen peas on the plate only!! When we complained, we were told that there were no other vegetables 'as they were scarce". However after a few minutes they eventually brought a dish of frozen peas!!! and frozen carrots. The potatoes were not roasted, but deep fried. The "home made" gravy was generic out of a packet. Don't waste your money.

Wonderful buzzing place with great food and interesting selection of English style drinks( Dandelion & Burdock my fav) . The place has a great barn like atmosphere wirh tall windows overviewing green field, great farmhouse shop opposite to buy farm foods. We visited on the weekday and it was busy which is a great testiment to their quality of produce. Plenty of space for car parking. Will be returning again for sure!
