I hardly give food rating but I was at Chop ooo Restaurant and Lounge yesterday , it offers an exceptional blend of Nigerian and continental cuisine in a cosy, vibrant atmosphere. The jollof rice was smoky perfection, while the suya delivers authentic spice that lingers just right. The staff were friendly and attentive to our requests . This to ensured a delightful dining experience for me and friends. The lounge's tasteful décor and upbeat vibe make it ideal for casual hangouts. We had drinks and it was well-crafted, with the Chapman standing out as a refreshing highlight. Whether you're craving a taste of home or exploring new flavours, Chop ooo nails it. I strongly recommend them.

Chop ooo restaurant stands out as a vibrant and essential destination for lovers of authentic African cuisine and culture. Nestled in a bustling neighbourhood in Newcastle, this restaurant offers an impressive selection of traditional African ingredients, spices, and ready-made food. The restaurant's ambiance is warm and welcoming, with colourful decorations and traditional music setting a lively tone. The layout is well-organised, making it easy to navigate through various sections dedicated to different African regions. With decor that reflects the vibrant and colourful culture of Africa. The walls are adorned with African art, textiles, and photographs, creating an immersive atmosphere. Traditional music playing softly in the background adds to the authentic experience. The seating is comfortable, and the layout is spacious, making it suitable for both intimate dinners and larger gatherings. The menu is a delightful journey through various African cuisines. It features a wide range of dishes, each prepared with care and authenticity. Signature dishes include Nigerian jollof rice, injera with spicy wot, fufu with peanut soup, and South African bobotie. The ingredients are fresh, and the flavours are bold and well-balanced. The portion sizes are generous, and each dish is presented beautifully. Special mention goes to the suya (grilled meat skewers) and the peri-peri chicken, both of which are marinated to perfection and bursting with flavour. The service is impeccable. The staff are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They are eager to explain the dishes and make recommendations based on guests' preferences. The waiting times are reasonable, even during peak hours, and the overall dining experience is smooth and enjoyable. The drinks menu is equally exciting, featuring a selection of African-inspired cocktails, fresh juices, and traditional beverages. The desserts are a perfect end to the meal. Chop oo Restaurant and lounge offers good value for money. The prices are reasonable considering the quality and portion sizes of the dishes. It's a great place for both casual dining and special occasions, offering an authentic taste of Africa without breaking the bank. Beyond the dining experience, this restaurant hosts cultural nights featuring live music, dance performances, and storytelling, creating a vibrant cultural hub. These events not only enhance the dining experience but also foster a sense of community and appreciation for African culture.

To say it was a disappointment would be a massive understatement—it was downright inedible. Firstly, the food arrived in an appalling state. The packaging was poorly done, with containers leaking and food crushed as if it had been tossed around like a football. By the time it reached me, it looked more like leftovers scraped from someone else’s plate than a fresh order. The moin moin was stone cold. Not lukewarm, not room temperature—cold. I’ve had better-tasting meals straight out of my fridge. For the premium prices you charge, I expected something remotely resembling effort, but what I received was an insult. Then there’s the taste—or lack thereof. The assorted pepper meat was bland, overcooked, and so greasy it could double as engine oil. The meat tasted stale, as if it had been sitting in your kitchen for days And it was underseasoned and looked half-eaten before it even got to me. To make matters worse, the portion sizes were laughable. I paid £10 for what I can only describe as a child’s serving. If I wanted to stay hungry after a meal, I’d skip ordering altogether. It’s clear that no care or pride went into preparing this meal. If this is the standard you uphold, then you’re not only failing your customers—you’re ripping them off.

The food in general was okay. This was our first time ordering from here. BUT...we ordered the ASSORTED meat and jollof rice but instead we got 3 small pieces of grissley beef (hardly "assorted") and a huge tin of terribly underseasoned and BLAND jollof rice for 12 pound. pretty cheeky and disappointing for a main meal!

Looks like it could be a great atmosphere, but we went on a quiet Monday night. We got amala with gbegiri and ewudu, jollof rice, dodo gizzard, egusi soup with poundo, and puff puff. Everything tasted like it just came out of the microwave; the swallows were hard and tasted like playdough. The jollof was really nice, I won’t lie, but the dodo gizzard was extremely overpriced for a tiny plate that cost £10 (scam). The puff puff was very chewy and also tasted like it just came out of the microwave. Most of the soups are preheated; I kind of understand since they're not busy 24/7, but they should be able to make it taste fresher. The egusi was okay but way too oily and more spicy than flavoursome, also quite a small portion as well. There was also a decent-sized piece of plastic I found in my jollof from the plastic container, which I wasn’t really happy about. Overall, I could make much better at home, and I won’t be visiting again."

Amazing service, quality of food was beyond expectations. I like that my order came steaming hot, and was obviously freshly made. What stood out was the packaging, it was well sealed and neatly done. I normally don’t leave reviews, I however had to this time because I am impressed.

They serve tasteful Nigerian meals. I love the ambience and setup, so beautiful and truly African. You can coordinate your events there, they have a space for birthday/event celebrations. I have attended two events there which went well. You may need to contact them for things you can bring or not as they have some restrictions. There’s about 6 parking spaces

Authentic Nigerian food is served at Chop OO. Worth a try if you are nostalgic about Nigerian food/drinks or just want to try something new. This restaurant and bar offers a warm, friendly service and excellent indoor and outdoor facilities for functions. Ideal for both indoor and outdoor family occasions within a fenced, gated, and secure premises with plenty of space outdoor garden for children to run around.

Wow this bar surprised me and my friends. It's clean It's done out perfectly with three huge light changing chandeliers. The people who run this bar are the nicest you'll ever meet anywhere The food wow the food is unbelievable: Fish pasties suya beef chicken and rice and sweet dumplings ..wow so nice I wanted to lick my plate! Dancing is magic here cis everyone gets down and boogies to the Nigerian beat. Large parking area and the best garden area of any bar in Newcastle area. Chopooo is not to be missed. Great venue for tourists cyclists or a good crowd of bikers. All in all a most friendly and welcoming bar. So clean!? They must have a magic fairy? Geordie Paul Green Guardian

The food is ridiculous, low grade taste, mind you that i have ordered from the restaurant multiple times. the food is salty, even i as a male/bachelor can make better jollof rice. Ridiculous! unless you are starving literally and have no other choice, do not order food from them. i don't usually give bad reviews but i had no choice! a complete waste of money and time, i am p*ssed!

Lovely food. Absolutely appalling value for money. Was informed they were out of jollof and that I would be given more sauce with fried rice, this didn’t turn up. I thought I only received one portion of meat (6 medium sized cubes) But as it turns out this was two portions. Two portions of meat ( 3 cubes a portion) and one portion of rice for £20. Almost enough to fill one person. It’s a shame because the food is delicious but terrible value. I had to add sauce as there was virtually none despite the “extra sauce” claims
