Looks like it could be a great atmosphere, but we went on a quiet Monday night. We got amala with gbegiri and ewudu, jollof rice, dodo gizzard, egusi soup with poundo, and puff puff. Everything tasted like it just came out of the microwave; the swallows were hard and tasted like playdough. The jollof was really nice, I won’t lie, but the dodo gizzard was extremely overpriced for a tiny plate that cost £10 (scam). The puff puff was very chewy and also tasted like it just came out of the microwave. Most of the soups are preheated; I kind of understand since they're not busy 24/7, but they should be able to make it taste fresher. The egusi was okay but way too oily and more spicy than flavoursome, also quite a small portion as well. There was also a decent-sized piece of plastic I found in my jollof from the plastic container, which I wasn’t really happy about. Overall, I could make much better at home, and I won’t be visiting again."

They serve tasteful Nigerian meals. I love the ambience and setup, so beautiful and truly African. You can coordinate your events there, they have a space for birthday/event celebrations. I have attended two events there which went well. You may need to contact them for things you can bring or not as they have some restrictions. There’s about 6 parking spaces

They didn’t give me any sauce because they assumed I would not be able to cope with it. Chef was puffing on a vape behind the bar.

Chop ooo restaurant stands out as a vibrant and essential destination for lovers of authentic African cuisine and culture. Nestled in a bustling neighbourhood in Newcastle, this restaurant offers an impressive selection of traditional African ingredients, spices, and ready-made food. The restaurant's ambiance is warm and welcoming, with colourful decorations and traditional music setting a lively tone. The layout is well-organised, making it easy to navigate through various sections dedicated to different African regions. With decor that reflects the vibrant and colourful culture of Africa. The walls are adorned with African art, textiles, and photographs, creating an immersive atmosphere. Traditional music playing softly in the background adds to the authentic experience. The seating is comfortable, and the layout is spacious, making it suitable for both intimate dinners and larger gatherings. The menu is a delightful journey through various African cuisines. It features a wide range of dishes, each prepared with care and authenticity. Signature dishes include Nigerian jollof rice, injera with spicy wot, fufu with peanut soup, and South African bobotie. The ingredients are fresh, and the flavours are bold and well-balanced. The portion sizes are generous, and each dish is presented beautifully. Special mention goes to the suya (grilled meat skewers) and the peri-peri chicken, both of which are marinated to perfection and bursting with flavour. The service is impeccable. The staff are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They are eager to explain the dishes and make recommendations based on guests' preferences. The waiting times are reasonable, even during peak hours, and the overall dining experience is smooth and enjoyable. The drinks menu is equally exciting, featuring a selection of African-inspired cocktails, fresh juices, and traditional beverages. The desserts are a perfect end to the meal. Chop oo Restaurant and lounge offers good value for money. The prices are reasonable considering the quality and portion sizes of the dishes. It's a great place for both casual dining and special occasions, offering an authentic taste of Africa without breaking the bank. Beyond the dining experience, this restaurant hosts cultural nights featuring live music, dance performances, and storytelling, creating a vibrant cultural hub. These events not only enhance the dining experience but also foster a sense of community and appreciation for African culture.

Authentic Nigerian food is served at Chop OO. Worth a try if you are nostalgic about Nigerian food/drinks or just want to try something new. This restaurant and bar offers a warm, friendly service and excellent indoor and outdoor facilities for functions. Ideal for both indoor and outdoor family occasions within a fenced, gated, and secure premises with plenty of space outdoor garden for children to run around.

Wow this bar surprised me and my friends. It's clean It's done out perfectly with three huge light changing chandeliers. The people who run this bar are the nicest you'll ever meet anywhere The food wow the food is unbelievable: Fish pasties suya beef chicken and rice and sweet dumplings ..wow so nice I wanted to lick my plate! Dancing is magic here cis everyone gets down and boogies to the Nigerian beat. Large parking area and the best garden area of any bar in Newcastle area. Chopooo is not to be missed. Great venue for tourists cyclists or a good crowd of bikers. All in all a most friendly and welcoming bar. So clean!? They must have a magic fairy? Geordie Paul Green Guardian

Great spot and atmosphere for drinks but the food and service is very abysmal. Never upfront and honest about the menu. Leading to serving the wrong order and try to gaslight you that's what you ordered. Do not recommend for food.

Lovely food. Absolutely appalling value for money. Was informed they were out of jollof and that I would be given more sauce with fried rice, this didn’t turn up. I thought I only received one portion of meat (6 medium sized cubes) But as it turns out this was two portions. Two portions of meat ( 3 cubes a portion) and one portion of rice for £20. Almost enough to fill one person. It’s a shame because the food is delicious but terrible value. I had to add sauce as there was virtually none despite the “extra sauce” claims

Easy to find, clean, fantastic food ( Had the egusi soup and eba) freshly made, polite professional service, good price very generous portion sizes. BUT please update is needed to the decor as first appearance left me feeling uneasy. Simple paper white table covers would transform the place. I would go back, soon.

Rode on recommendation to storm Tony's as a first timer in Tyneside. Tony's would do well to remain drinks joint. To join a food joint, it must obviously up its game. The artistic reception area makes up for it's shortcoming anyway.

My husband(!) and I had our wedding lunch here 31st October 2024. What a delightful time we had! As we were catering for 30 people, we used outside caterers (can recommend Community Catering) and The Hub made sure there was enough space for them to set out food lovely. The bar selection was great for our needs and they even ensured there was a small cocktail menu available at our request (pina coladas are delicious!). Jill and Heather took care of our every need when arranging the event (and during) and I think were even more excited than me! They made the space absolutely beautiful for us. Many of our guests had not been before and were very impressed and will certainly be back again soon as customers. The other staff in attendance on the day were great too, happy, friendly and polite. It is a fabulous little hidden gem of a location which is perfect for a walk (or cycle!) along the Quayside or the Ouseburn, with beautiful views along the river Tyne with backdrop of the bridges. Although we were unable to use their food at our event, we have eaten here before and it has always been delicious. It is worth noting too that they use as many local suppliers and small business as possible which in my view is really worth celebrating. Keep an eye on their drinks menu as it changes with the season which is a lovely little touch too. On a cold day, you can still sit outside to enjoy the view too as they even have some blankets that you can borrow to keep the chill off. Thanks again, from the new Mr and Mrs Burnett.

This place has been an absolute joy since it opened a few years ago. I visit 3 or 4 times a week and always enjoy a fantastic coffee; the staff are always friendly and the atmosphere is great, same goes for the heated seats. Destination 1850 will close for the last time on 23 June 2024, highly recommend trying this place before it's too late.
