Very nice area in the summer. However, The Chon Chola still does some of the older classical dishes. This contrasts with the hustle etc. of some of the modern Indian restaurants, where the menu can be restrictive.

Visited with 6 friends recently. Only one other couple there. We were told the latest we could book was 8:30. So knew no one else was coming in. We asked if we could spread out a bit as all cramped on one table. No was the answer. My meal was awful. Tough lamb, couldn’t even cut it with the knife. So I left half my meal. I explained, nothing else offered or given. Not only that the staff can’t wait to get rid of you. They actually hang around waiting for you to finish. Awful. There’s a good reason why an Indian restaurant gets only 3 Stars ⭐️.

I wish I’d read the review about not ordering online BEFORE ordering online. As stated in the other review, I registered, ordered, paid and had an acknowledgment for my order (on the webpage, acknowledgment never received by email which raised my suspicion). The the payment wasn’t showing in the banking app. Called and said I’ve placed an order online, have you received it, but before I could finish the sentence was told we received nothing. Hadn’t even checked my name. How did he know? Because the online ordering service clearly isn’t set up. All he was interested in is is you show me the money has come out of your bank statement I’ll refund you. Appalling customer service. Years since we’ve eaten there, and will never return.

Just had a Jalfazi delivered, upon taking the container out of the bag I thought that feels light, I removed the container lid and was shocked to see it only half full, I felt ripped off it was less than a childs size portion, I definitely will not be using this place again, if things are tight then ripping off your customers is the the best way to encourage repeat custom.

This restaurant is tired and the owners need to retire. The food we ordered was greasy, oily and terrible. The orange juice ordered looked disgusting. We were constantly being looked at like thieves in the restaurant yet I was with my elderly mother. Do not waste your money - Marks and Spencer offer better - and probably fresher !

DO NOT ORDER ONLINE, The order does not go through and you never get your food. You go through all the process of selecting your food AND making a payment but that's it! Nothing else happens. They know this and have done NOTHING ABOUT IT!

Never once had a bad experience here. The food is delicious and great portion sizes, the staff are attentive and friendly. Wish I could give more than 5 stars, excellent business.

We have been using Chon Chola for over a year, the food is absolutely delicious and the staff are great. We have converted all our family now to their takeaways! Love being able to order online, it’s always ready on time or delivered at the right time, can’t praise them highly enough.

We ate at chon chola last night - the first time for almost two years. It was excellent and as good as it always is. Lovely to see Abdul too. If you have not been here, do give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

Arrived nearly one hour early, staff couldn't care less, driver drove off. if you want it delivered anywhere near your required time the suggest you arrange delivery for a later time. Seeing as we had to wait for our friend's to arrive the food was cold and not all that!

Awful food, awful service, awful management, dodgy pricing, rude people... This is without question the worst so-called restaurant I have ever had the misfortune to attend. Never again. Appalling in all areas. Avoid this place.

As a little girl I always used to go to this curry house with my parents. I then hit my young 20’s and was still going there, then with the girls and the staff were so friendly and lovely. I had to write this review tonight as I’m now 30 and still are having the best curry’s from these guys! Tonight’s curry was so nice; full of flavour, fresh and the delivery time was brilliant! I just wanted to say a massive thank you for just being great!

If you are with in the Warsash area definitely use their website order over just eat more chose and great food what ever you use excellent staff

We are staying at Solent Breezes Caravan park. The food was amazing. Delivered today on time. One of the nicest Indian takeaway‘s I have ever had. I stupidly ordered twice. I placed the order on the restaurant website, but didn’t receive a confirmation e-mail, so placed the order on Just eat. The poor driver turned up with both orders, & was so understanding. I honestly cannot apologise enough. Thank you so much.

Best Indian in the area, we thoroughly enjoyed our delicious delivered meal, perfectly cooked chicken,large portion sizes, can highly recommend, absolutely superb !

Had an early evening meal here at around 7pm. We received a warm welcome from the maître de, and were very well looked after. Our drinks and food were served promptly and efficiently, and our meals were delicious! We like the location and the traditional style and atmosphere of offered here.

Since the refurb the space between tables has noticeably decreased meaning that privacy is less than before. The food and service standards remain very good and the Maitre d’ is a real personality. Hopefully the internal changes will not prove a distraction for customers

This is without a doubt the worst place I have ever had the misfortune to experience. The staff are incredibly rude, arrogant and aggressive, the food below average and the atmosphere diabolical.I have no idea how such a dire establishment remains in business. The lack of any management reviews on here tells you everything you need to know about the attitude of the proprietors.Disgusting. Do yourself a massive favour, avoid this place.

Nothing wrong with the food at all. Enjoyed both my courses and the prices are good. That's the good bit. The really bad bit is there is absolutely no atmosphere in the restaurant at all. It is the first time ever I've eaten in a restaurant where there was no music playing, no TV on. nothing...it was just stoney silence. The one waiter just hung around the bar watching my every mouthful. I really don't get it why the owners would run a restaurant in this way. As a dining experience it was poor indeed. So, good food let down massively by everything else. Dull and miserable experience.

Went to get a takeaway last night. The staff were rude and bad service. we We’re stood waiting for our food at the counter he walked past us and put it out the door for us to leave. Wouldn’t recommend been here a few times and the service is always bad. Don’t go.

Im thinking they don't actually want to serve food. Went in for a chicken tikka takeaway and was told they could do just that! I'll go elsewhere next time. Very bizarre

When you phone an Indian takeaway and they won’t sell you 3 naan breads by themselves it’s time to take your business to the Indian Summer in Park Gate. Food far superior and they are happy to accommodate their customers

Don't eat at this place, the quality of the food is appalling given we paid nearly £35 for the meal, for a starter which was dried mincemeat tasted like rubber.

Vast selection of starters and mains at very reasonable prices. We ate as a group of seven and all agreed the food was a very good standard. Well worth returning to eat here. The staff were really friendly and attentive without being intrusive

First time in this place and will be my last, i had the chicken tikka Marsala, and so did my partner all of her family were enjoying the night and they were paying so i said nothing, when i was alone with my partner i said i did not enjoy it she agreed.

We have been going to this Indian restaurant for many years. The food is always good, if it's not on the menu they will prepare it for you. It's very clean with a lovely atmosphere.

Abdul is a legend locally, an absolute kind polite hard working gentle man. The food is consistently good, the restaurant is consistently clean, all of the staff are consistently lovely. Always a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended , you always know what you're getting .

A lovely curry. The curry house was empty, but although this worried us, the curry was fantastic. Very buttery and beautifully cooked. Would highly recommend.

been eating in here on and off for years now both sit down and take awayfood nearly always great went through a bit of a blip last year (maybe a different chef who knows) but back to its usual good self now

In short, purchased £32 worth of takeaway food. The lamb shami patties were cold and resembled something from a Cats litter tray, the stuffed Mushroom Pakora was cold with cheese and seemed to have something in it that had the texture of carpet. The chicken Dhansak was on another level, this tasted the same as the Pakora with carpet with a hint of saw dust. The chapatis fought all the way , they had clearly been heated up in a microwave and then popped into a plastic bag, once they were out of the bag they took on the texture of old shoe leather and what i suspect is used to deflect heat from destroying the space shuttle. The rice was cooked ! all food went in the bin. Went to the chip shop next door and had a fantastic fish and chip supper freshly cooked and ...........edible !

Been here many times over many years and never been impressed. Never busy, never a buzz. The food is below par and service is poor with less than friendly staff. Shall try to leave it a few more years until next attempt here.

This is a well run little restaurant. The staff are efficient and friendly. Their take away service is also great and I keep coming back. Highly recommended.

Not impressed! The sauce in the prawn puree tasted exactly the same as the Afghani Rogan Josh & the Chicken Kurma was like a thick cream of tomato soup. All dishes were only just warm. Could do better myself. Only good points were the decor & the pleasant & courteous manager. There can't be much competition locally - otherwise this restaurant would not survive.

Come in here on a regular basis and it always delivers. Nothing special but a good meal. You can't really go wrong!

This restaurant has an interesting & varied menu sorted by from the farm (chicken), meadow (lamb/mutton), sea (fish), chef specials etc. It is quite good value especially the house wine & the set menus. The food is nice-nothing special but not bad either! We liked the Indian music they were playing. Some staff were friendly but some not so much! Chicken tikka & naan were very nice.

We live in the area so eat here regularly. The service is really good as is the food. Really good value roo considering the area -highly recommended.

I have been here a couple of times now and both times its been very good. The staff are friendly and fun to interact with when ordering and asking for advice with the menu if you need it. The food is served quickly and is always lovely. I have never left anything but fully satisfied.

I have never written an online review good or bad as I feel that it can be detrimental to a business if they were having an off day, however after being warned how appalling the often cold food and service is my partner and I and another couple decided to give it a try. On being rudely greeted by the staff we were seated in the poor let lit room close to the kitchen away from the window which we asked to be sat as the place was almost empty, only to be told that he doesn't want us to be sat by the window not due to reserved tables but so the waiters didn't have to walk that far. After that it only went down hill the waiter was abrupt and rude when taking the drinks order to the point that we all decided it might be better to find another restaurant close by on hearing this the waiter snatched all our menus from us and demanded we left the premises which we were happy to oblige we were then ushered by the still rude waiter asking us to leave with no regards to his very small remaining guests. This is by far the worst restaurant, atmosphere and customer service I have ever encountered so much so I felt compelled to write my first online review to worn others of this disgraceful establishment. Hopefully they take this and the many other bad reviews and have a good hard look at there business model.

We visited the Chon Chola as a party of 6. It was not our choice but our friends choice. The staff were rude on several occasions, interrupting us to take orders and delivering luke warm and mediocre tasting food. They were clearly under pressure and it was not very busy. The restaurant was clearly understaffed. We have been there occasional over the last 10 years and always ask for a wine cooler.......they never have one despite us always asking for one. This will be our last visit to this restaurant, as there are far better restaurants in the vicinity, one opposite Holly Hill Park (excellent) and one in Locks Health centre.

We have had two takeouts from here, first one was good and we were keen to try the place again!The second was for a birthday takeout meal with friends, we ordered the chon chola platter for 4 and after explaining two or three times I was vegetarian, when it arrived the vegetarian bits and meat were all mixed up in one greasy bag.We ordered the food at 18:25 told to pick up at 19:00, we arrived at 19:05 and were asked to wait in the clean but very dated restaurant; the staff seemed very rushed tho the place was not busy. We waited and told our food would be ready in 2 mins, 15 mins later it came out. The food is nice but not enough to make us go back especially after the platter bag!

I love an Indian meal but sometimes I try a take away before going to a particular restaurant. I had prawn purée. A bit tasteless and the bread was powderry. Prawn madras. A small portion! Again, a bit tasteless. Could taste curry powder but no other spices. Peshwari man bread was nothing special either. Full of powdered coconut. Won't be back for a sit in.

Used this place for over 20 years. This was the first visit for quite a while, Abdul was as helpful and cheery as ever, unfortunately his colleague was not. Very rude ignored my wife completely. No tip given. Prawn butterfly tasteless and undercooked. Won't be returning.

Went a few years ago and was underwhelmed but enjoyed this visit with quick service and good food. Thought the waiter was friendly and eager to help.

Potentially could've been such a lovely meal out, the bartender (older guy with goatee) was wonderful and polite and happy. Unfortunately we got stuck with the waiter who clearly didn't want to be there - tutted at members of our party who weren't ready to order, didn't check on us, practically threw our plates of food at us when they came out to be served, had to wait ages for drinks when we first arrived. One of our party was standing to go to the toilet and instead of saying excuse me the waiter shouted 'THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU' in her face to get her to move out of his way. Shame as this waiter let his lovely colleague down and the food was actually quite nice.

Cozy place with a bar ,looked busy for a weekday evening, serves Indian food ,not much of the same flavour though,had an all Veg meal , never returned to the place but nothing much around for asian cuisines.

We used to go to this restraunt frequently asked food was good but for the past 3-4 years things have been different. The food is not great had a passanda and the lychee was flavourless really sad this went downhill. :(

We have visited the chon chola on and off for nearly thirty years. The service has always been attentive and prompt and the food choices and food really good. For two of us and two courses plus puppadoms to start and four beers came to just over £47.

Had a take away the chicken on the bone was pink and raw inside, glad we peeled it off the bone to check. Staff refunded entire meal cost and then asked me never to come back, which I am quite happy to oblige

Dad and I couldn't be fagged to cook this particular evening, so we decided to pop to The Chon Chola. It's been there for well o'er 30 years, and has had a great reputation. However, the night we went we were disappointed. My prawn Kashmir had tired, tiny prawns, and bland lychees. Dad's meat dish was cold.

Visited here quite a few times and it has been great each time. The staff are friendly and the food is good. I enjoyed the chicken tikka massala and it wasn't too overpriced. I like the atmosphere in the restaurant and I will return!

I have been going here for 3 years, normally ok but this weekend my takeaway was terrible. The passanda didnt even look like a passanda, it looked more like a swamp had been dredged and put in a tub, this I poured over my entire diinner ruining everything else. It wasn't only that item of our dinner either. I got a refund, had to ask for an apology but nothing else, not even a coplimantary popadom ! Luckily we have another Indian close by....

The food is always very good from this indian restaurant, you take pot luck on the service which is extremely variable. I've had very bad service here, but last time it was perfectly fine. Best idea is to get a takeaway, then you don't take the risk!

We were staying locally just for one night, after a riverside drink at The Rising Sun we took our chances with Chon Chola, having noticed it as we walked by. It was a Wednesday night, so understandably not overly busy. The gentleman serving us was polite and welcoming, we ordered our food. The food was nicely cooked, pretty traditional, but not full of ghee, full of flavour and enjoyable. We both had the Jalfrezi which was good and the Dahl was just lovely.I was surprised to read some of the negative reviews prior to writing my own review, I can only speak of our 'one off' experience, I admit we weren't expecting much, but it exceeded our expectations. For the record....we've eaten in 'probably' hundreds of Indian restaurants and travelled all over India!!! If we lived in the area, I'm sure we would be more than happy to make this one of our regular haunts for a curry.

We have been here about 4 times now. It can be quiet, which I like but the welcome and service is always very friendly. It's clean, reasonably priced and the food has always been very nice. A little gem and one of the best for some distance from Warsash.

We always get a friendly welcome, it's clean, good service, we all enjoyed the food (incl children), regular diners and take-aways.

They didnt have my favorite dish, Prawn Makhani so I had chicken tikka Makhani instead. The poppadoms turned up and there was no yoghurt sauce. I looked round at the other tables and they had the same; chopped onion mix, mango chutney and the hot lime stuff. So wasnt happy about that. Then my chicken turned up. The sauce wasnt very nice at all. Really bland. For thoes of you who don't know what Makhani is, it's a cross between massala and butter chicken with a nutty edge. What turned up on myplate was more like Korma. And then, I bit into the chicken and it had the most disgusting texture; rubbery and crunchy at the same time. I think I ate about 1 piece of chicken becasue I was too scared of getting food poisoning. It was horrible, And then I had keema rice. Which was also really bland and tasted really odd, like clinical. I made the lady who served us aware and she said 'Okay ill look into that'. And just walked off without going into the kitchen to talk to the chef. I didnt even get an apology. When we were ready to leave, they rushed us out and held the door open for us as we were still putting our coats on, making the rest of the dinner guests cold. Safe to say, I wont be going back.

Hi, thought I should shae this awful experience at chon chola in Warsash. We ordered a take away tonight for collection. We ate the majority of a chicken tikka dish, only to find towards the end that some of the chicken was raw! We returned the remainder of our meal to the restaurant, to which we received awful service. The female owner was very confrontational and told us we should not have a refund. She raised her voice and caused a scene in front of the other customers, who were still eating. After a long debate she finally offered to return the raw dish. I most definitely won't be eating there again!

Myself and friends were hungry after visiting local Pub so went here. We were greeted with its late so you will need to be quick. The food was not very nice. Watery curry, taste better from an Iceland ready meal. We felt hurried. Two friends went to use the toilet( which had no toilet paper in, even after we had asked several times for) there plates were picked up. Then put back when we said they have not finished. The Staff were really rude.right from the start. After eating I wished we had saved areoney. Would of enjoyed a Kebab sat on the pavement more. I will never use this place again.

Booked a table for four. A warm greeting on arrival and prompt attention. When the main course arrived, one of the dishes did not appear to be what was ordered and the waiter quickly removed all the food dishes. A few minutes later, they all arrived again (3 of the original meals, which were now cooler) plus what looked like the same curry in a different bowl. When my friend observed that it did not look or taste like the curry that was ordered, the owner very bluntly said that was how "we" make it.The whole meal was pleasant, but lacked atmosphere and the previous treatment took some of the enjoyment out of the evening.I would try it again, but have some reservations

Had meal with a group of friends, we were the only ones in the restaurant on a Friday night which says it all really.I ordered a chicken tikka masala which was terrible home pride sauce jar at home was better.Please don't waste your money and get a ready meal from your supermarket.

We have been using the Chon Chola for nearly 10 years both for take-away and eat-in. Always a great flavoursome curry and good service. Very friendly, clean, tasty, authentic....nothing is too much trouble.

I have been coming here for 10+ years now and have not once had a problem with their food, The service is great with the majority of the staff it only seems to be the older lady who I believe is the owner that gives off a slightly bad vibe, ie seems like she would prefer if no one was ever there? apart from the the cost of the meal too is amazing. 2x rice 2x mains 5 poppadums with chutney etc and 1x naan and a bottle of wine all for less than £40 you can not complain at that! I would and have recommened this restaurant many times over.

My husband & I took are 2 children for dinner out today it was the worst Indian food we have ever experienced, chicken wasn't cooked & all dishes were presented cold we complained & our plates were taken & microwaved & given back without opology. we didn't eat anything & said we wouldn't pay the full bill for which 50percent was taken off. We will not return & wouldn't recommend this resturant, well only to environmental health!!

I have been going to this restaurant for 25 years and the food has always been excellent.The same people are there that were serving when I started to go and they are always friendly and helpful.Food is excellent quality.

Have been here a number of times in the past and the service and food has always been great!Ample parking right outside so you don't have to walk too far.I've never had to book, and even though it is always busy we have always managed to get a table.All I can say is that it is one of the 'nicer' restaurants I have been to with this type of food...Thank you.

We always come here when we want an Indian takeaway and sometimes we come and eat in the restaurant. The staff are lovely and always slip us some extra chocolate's or poppadum's (thank you!). The recent refurbishment looks really good and has made the restaurant stand out a bit more.

Went to this restaurant with four friends about 10pm on a Friday, problem was service was rushed and food was rather bland, I ordered something special a tamarind tikka chicken curry, basically was chicken with a sauce. Sorry but for me to provide a good score I use the following criteria, would I spend the same amount again, would I recommend a close friend, did I enjoy the experience. Sadly a no to all......

First visit here, although we have been aware of it for some time and had recommendations from other friends and family. We were pleasantly surprised as it exceeded our expectations. Everything was faultless. Would have no hesitation in visiting again or recommending to others.

Ordered chicken curry - chicken was clearly frozen not fresh and was very rubbery. I couldn't eat it (and I'm not a fussy eater). Went in one day to buy a nan bread and some sides as I was making a curry at home and was told that they wouldn't do that. Not being funny but there's never anyone in there - surely they should be taking all the custom they can get!! Really bad curry house, try Swanwick station instead!
