Chippy's in St Edmundsbury

We tried this place for the first time a few months back and really enjoyed the food. So much so we said this can be our takeaway spot when we fancy something because we are finding it really hard to find nice takeaway places near us. We visited again and didn't enjoy the food. The cod was very greasy, and I'm not sure what oil it was cooked it but it was actually quite horrible. It gave the food a tinted orange colour. The chips weren't the best either. We let it slide, and said maybe they had to change things. We tried again recently and it was the same again. Very greasy, orangey looking coloured battered fish, chips didn't seem the freshest. The fish is always stuck to the paper too and ends up very wet and soggy, so I feel like you end up losing some of the batter. The fish hasn't seemed fresh, white, fluffy and nicely battered like the first time we tried them. I disliked it so much compared to the first time we tried it that I said I never want to eat from here again unfortunately. The service is brilliant. That I can't fault.

Popped in to Chippys when I was in the area on a job. Ordered a small Cod and Chips, The Cod was cooked lovely with a nice crispy batter and the chips were equally as nice. Reasonably priced and polite staff. The portions of Chips could be slightly larger but I could not fault the quality of food and the service. I will definitely visit again when I am in the area. Thank you.

If you want chips in haverhill, this is your place to go. If you want wraps, burgers, nuggets, sausages, get yourself a chippys. Get yourself some grub!

Really disappointed with the 3 cod we had ordered . Was greasy and stuck to the paper . So much so that the bottom of the paper were the chips was on had gone. Such a shame .

Usually chippys is first choice in town, but last time the food was really awful. The chips were brown not the usual golden colour. The batter on all 3 battered sausages was terrible and rock hard. Really disappointed I appreciate your reply but nobody’s personal preference for a battered sausage would be to have it rock hard and overcooked .

Brought a large chips and battered sausage, food was lovely but portion size was an absolute joke.....large portion of chips coming up like a small. Such good food seriously let down by portion size!! Please make your portions bigger! 😭😭

Regularly call for delivery each week, always turns up on time with hot, delicious food. Pricing increases just like everything else from time to time but is always totally reasonable. Can't recommend them enough.

Been using the van at balsham as found the shop fish isn't cooked as good. Sorry to say had to drop a star. we had haddock tonight and not so good from shop but was that way so decided to pop in. There is play area outside and a corner shop. The parking is getting a problem for the chippy lots of vehicles that are parked there all the time big white vans not parked overly well. It does put me off going here. Plus the car park is very dark not much lighting.

Horrible chips not even cooked... have to edit as not sure how to reply to the below comment, your cooks seem to disagree with you as I returned the chips and they gave me a battered sausage as they have had problems with the chips, eat here every Friday and the chips always need more cooking, whoever says the chips here are the best probably haven't got a car to go anywhere else 🤣

This is a gem of a fish 'n chip shop. I have gluten free requirements within the household, and they offer gluten free all the time, and it's as good as the wheaty stuff. And they have always got my order right. There's an in crowd of locals, and I'm not in it, but the staff are polite and friendly. It's my go to when we visit my parents.

Fish and chips is fish and chips right? Gluten free available all the time, good chips, beautifully fried fish, and actually pretty decent burgers. So yeah, fish and chips are fish and chips. But these are good fish and chips.

Food is always good. Best fish and chips in Haverhill. Sometimes queues outside can be intimidating.

Bit more expensive than similar places in this town, but usually good quality. Unfortunately on the last visit, the fish (haddock) was pretty uninspiring, bit tasteless and lacklustre batter. Also the large portion of chips is significantly smaller than their competitors small portions. I don't mind paying more, but when the food isn't as good and the portions stingy, it's a bit of a problem.

Lovely white fish, well cooked. Very busy had 20+ mins for fish and chips to be served. Haven't seen such a long queue for many years. Recommend to give this shop a try. Unfortunately we don't live near. Just visiting

I thought the chips could've been a bit crisper on the outside. The kids had no complaints about their scampi suppers.

Rude owner, absolutely disgusting behaviour. I will never recommend this Chip Shop. Trying to tell me a Chicken Fillet takes longer than half a chicken . First and last time ever going there. Chucked my food at me with a disgusting grin. Pathetic place.

Went there for a quick dinner, but was soon disappointed. The service was quick but fish was overcooked and chips were very greasy and were cold by the time I got back. The battered sausage was undercooked and I had to stop eating them because they were just unpleasant.

Good quality fish and chips in Haverhill for a small price. Opene long hours and offer house delivery for a small fee. I'd recomend it.

Have recently changed to this Fish and Chip shop from another in town. Everything seems to be cooked to order. Great quality food. Portions are very generous. The large cod should be renamed a side of whale I think! Definitely would recommend people try Chippy's out if they havent already.

Lovely friendly staff,swift service and they do lovely food, which has got an award for healthiest oils. They have a chip van near the diva shop in the passage by side of Barclays near the bus station on a Friday till 1.30pm and sat till 2.00pm after that they go round villages near haverhill.

Located on a small square next to a convenience shop with loads parking within 1 min walk with both steps and wheel chair access. How you imagine a chippy to be. Incredible quality chunky cod fillets, golden soft chips, proper curry sauce and mushy peas. The batter has a very iconic golden colour, which is both crispy and perfectly seasoned. Its by far the best offering of fish and chips ive had, and im yet to find another that can compete across London since i moved. Cannot wait to visit and get my fish and chips fix again! Well priced for a family weekend treat or a quick one stop shop to feed the family with a wholesome meal. Guaranteed smiles all round.
