Chip Inn in Edinburgh, City of

Pretty terrible. We ordered food direct for delivery. Delivery driver told us his order was from elsewhere ( Clay Inn? ) and not for us. About 5 mins later he realises his error and then charges us £4 more than we were expecting. Even got himself confused with the change and wanted to keep an extra £10. Food wise the pizza was poor - soggy!? and so greasy. Chips the same, very greasy and soggy. Chicken nuggets okay.

This place has seriously gone downhill. The staff are rude, disrespectful, offensive, have no problem taking the pee out of customers, and have no idea what hand hygiene is. As a carer I am totally disgusted at their lack of assistance offered. Let's make something clear, there's no access if you're in a chair, 2 staff totally brushed off the person I was with, yet when I entered the place they just let rip with the disability slurs and jokes. When i told them this was unacceptable and as a carer I found it all offensive, the blonde Italian female server shouted and swore at me, really gives an indication of how the food is going to be. Getting down to the food. The prices are definitely more expensive than other places, however the price increase doesn't mean quality. The fish and chips were greasy, overcooked, and the fish certainly didn't taste fresh. The batter was rubbery and burnt on the bottom (honestly it was black). The chips greasy and had bits over them, an obvious sign of old oil used. The steak pie supper was nothing short of a greasy mess. The pie was wringing in oil, it was just inedible, yet again it was accompanied by a greasy ball of what they call chips. Overall it was an unpleasant experience all round, I've been going there years but no more, I don't deserve that level of disrespect or abuse neither does anyone with a disability. Please just go anywhere else but here.

Well well well... worst experience I've ever had while ordering food I felt unwelcome the atmosphere was horrendous! The staff need to work on their manors and get some customer service experience. This was once the best Gluten Free chippy in Edinburgh but you can tell by the quality of food that the passions gone down the shooter! But still happy to take our money :( It's such a shame! Check the reviews they have started to slip MASSIVELY the past couple years. C'moan guys pick it up get back in the game or shut shop

caught staff doing a number of things putting wasps and ants in my food caught him iching his rear end withoout gloves then not washing his ends the TOUCHES my food. do not recomend. KEEP BACK FROM THIS PLACE

Waited 2 hours for a tiny pizza and tried to cancel order wasn’t letting me, tried to phone but it said voice box full bye and hung up and then pulls up at 4am and the pizza was bad.

Avoid! I ordered a gluten free fish supper last night and I have been up all night being violently sick after eating it. I have honestly never been so ill before, truly awful experience. I've been ordering from here for years and used to rate it highly but it's definitely gone downhill recently, the chips were very undercooked (as they were last time I ordered) and the fish was tiny and mostly batter. And it was also clearly contaminated too. It's a pity there isn't an option to give less than 1 star since paying £14 to have a night of violent vomiting, stomach cramps, acid reflux and heartburn really isn't appreciated. I definitely won't be back!

Not all items delivered initially, poor delivery driver had to be sent back with half of the order. My son had to wait for part of his meal meaning it was cold by the time he had all of it. The website isn't clear what comes with what. Portions of chips are small for the price. Food was edible and not unpleasant but equally it wasn't anything to write home about either.

Time window was an hour after we ordered although it was the weekend so it was understandable - but then it was half an hour late. When it arrived it looked like it had been put together with a slingshot. They really need to sort the pale, boiled kebab meat that my very not fussy cat wouldn’t even eat - we’re actually a bit concerned.

Bad quality The food was disgusting the chips where in a right state and the batter on fish was also poor quality and made us all sick in fact it’s the worst fish and chips I’ve had for a decade will never buy from this place again best to avoid and cook yourself.

We’ve used this chippy for many years , last time not great so avoided for a while, decided to give another chance tonight , fish was dry , tasteless and thin, batter thicker than the fish inside, chips were all ends of potato, clearly fried a few times as well , the kebab meat was dry, burnt and thick , called to complain they were not even interested. Shame .

Fish supper arrived about ten minutes after ordering. Tasted ok. Within hours heavy sickness and runs. Neighbour had similar experience won’t be going back

Don’t know how to talk to people paid 8 quid for sausage and chips and was disappointed as it was small n burned to be fair all looked burned in there👀 don’t eat there !!!

Ordered cheese in burger next day I’ll. ok maybe not there food. One week later ordered donut kebab. Again I’ll and so is my partner. Definitely never ordering from them again. And to add insult to injury they charge 50p for using there website!!!!!

It was disgusting. The chips and fish were not fresh, it was like they had been left there all day. The batter had come away from the fish and the chips were really dry. My friend got onion rings and we pulled the batter apart to find the tiniest piece of onion. Worst thing was, half way through picking at the food I found a black hair! DO NOT EAT FROM HERE.

We live 1 mile from this chip shop.Our food arrived 1 hour after we ordered it and it was cold.We will never use this takeaway again.Food should arrive hot from a takeaway not cold!!! Would not recommend this place for take away. We spent £20 waste of money!!!!!!!!

very disappoint in the service I recieved used to be a regular and now completely put of ,chips were soggy and was short changed told me one price on the phone went to collect and got a diffrent price then when home added it up and was defo short change poor man on the till is rushed of his feet and other woman was shouting at him to pick up the phone rather than dealing with the customers that where in front of him , will not be ordering from this place again I know we are in hard times but everyone deserves to be treated with respect shocking

The food served here is always fresh and made to order, the staff have full knowledge on your dietary needs (be it celiac or vegetarian) and will inform you in full of this before you make an order, especially gluten free. They pride themselves on quick service and fresh food, If you ever have any problems (unlikely) with your order they will fix it as soon as they are made aware. Community is a big part of this local chippy and people appreciate that, it’s fun to be in when your waiting for your food to cook and the staff are friendly. Instead of the awkward silences and you looking at your phone. This chippy is open 7 days 4pm-11pm. Best chippy in Edinburgh.

Utilizamos este chippie durante años y han sido en general muy satisfechos. Nuestra familia de 3 en ocasiones comprar un oferta que incluye una pizza", 3 de 16 bolsas de patatas fritas y un 1,5 litro botella de coca cola. La pizza viene con 2 coberturas, pero te permiten pedir media pensión con 2 coberturas y la otra mitad con una combinación diferente, por lo tanto diferentes gustos de la familia. Eso fue hasta hoy! A partir de ahora en pedir este atraerá a un coste adicional significativo independientemente parece que en general no está por encima de la cantidad extra y no lleva más tiempo para preparar o cocinar! Lamentablemente, esto significa que no será pedir otra vez y que tanto la familia como el chip Inn va a perder. Es una pena.

Every time I have been to the Chip Inn, I have been delighted with freshly cooked food. The place is always busy, and the staff are friendly. I find it is worth going out of my way for.

On a quick trip to Edinburgh, (it was a long day), wanted to get back home, but we were hungry. Put GF fish and chips into the phone, and this is where it took us. Rang to double check for opening etc, and was asked for our order and it would be ready for us on arrival. Sadly it was a first visit, and we didn`t know what was on offer. Wow! I guess anything that you could expect to get from a chippy (Scottish) and more. Pizza, Pasta, Kebab, Burger, and the usual traditional food, Pies, Fish, Chips. AND Gluten free fish & chips, I`m certain that I read GF Pizza too. The shop was very clean, bright and welcoming. It didn`t have the awful greasy smell that some do. Which to me means that the staff are conscientious in cleaning and changing cooking oils.The shop had a steady flow of custom, the staff were pleasantly chatty and very helpful, and very patient......Decisions decisions! And this was only for the GF menu!I think that this business should grow.....further south to Lancashire. Please. As yet, we have not found anything at all to measure up to this excellent menu and quality of food. We will be back. Many thanks.

My son has coeliac's disease and says this is the rest fish supper he has had since being diagnosed 8 years ago you have to wait a little longer as it is made fresh but it is worth the wait I have also tried this and it was delicious good to know that more places are catering to gluten free we will be back

On the face of it this place looks like a small time local chippy but they are a coeliac's dream !! They have gone to the bother of making a great gluten free menu. They are really clued up on it from batter to sauces. They offer fish, pizzas and sausages and more. I have had fish and sausage suppers. The fish is lovely, fresh and meaty and the batter is crispy and delicious. The sausages are delicious and they were able to give me details of the butcher who provides them. They use a separate fryer and the food is always cooked fresh.

I have been coming to this chippy for many a year as I stay local but every time I eat here I always regret it straight away, but this time will be the last. From the rude staff, The woman that works behind the fryer is never pleasant and is constantly ordering the staff about in a horrible manner and the man that serves at the till, I don't think I've ever had a hello or goodbye. Just a grunt and how much I'm due, and then the food is terrible, I normally go for a supper which 9/10 is shocking, the chips are always poor and the supper is normally been sitting there for ages so it's like rubber. Terrible place and I won't be back.

I was heading to Edinburgh for a holiday in August and I e.mailed the Chip Inn with questions way before my visit as not only am I gluten free, but dairy free and soya free too. At no point did I feel I was an inconvenience in my correspondance or my visit, the staff answered every query happily and went that extra mile checking on the incidence on soya in their gluten free products. I was ultimately delighted to find that the haggis didn't have soya and that was my choice. It was totally gorgeous, a real quality haggis! What makes this chippy so special is they have gone to the trouble of having fryers specifically for the gluten free orders. That gives so much more confidence that what you're eating is safe. The order was taken and the gluten free part handled by a particular member of staff with the extra knowledge of allergen procedures. I had every confidence in my food at every stage. I was actually so delighted with my haggis and chips that I made a second visit to the chippy during my holidays! Having multiple intolerances I am extremely wary of eating out but I would return to the Chip Inn in a heartbeat. Well done on an excellent service and choice for allergy/intolerance sufferers. We need more places like you!

Gluten Free options are as extensive as you can possibly imagine - everything from gluten free pasta & pizza to black pudding & fish! All cooked in a separate fryer and absolutely delicious! Add in service with a warm, friendly welcome and big smiles and you've got a winning combination! In 5 years of being gluten free this is the most welcoming & accommodating take-away I have come across! Well worth a visit if in Edinburgh! xx

Cannot fault this takeaway. Have had various meals from here; fish and chips, king rib, kebab and each have been delicious. The donner kebab from here is the best in the city- delicious with fresh naan bread, salad, chilli sauce and of course garlic mayo. Definitely visit if you're in the area. Staff are lovely and very friendly.Good value for money too!

Absolutely amazed to find such a great Gluten Free Menu - and my goodness - it tasted SO GOOD! I've never had GF haggis before and so it was a real treat to have battered GF Haggis - I can't recommend this great little chippy enough - thanks guys (and gals). My hubby thoroughly enjoyed his 'normal' Fish & Chips too! Don't forget 10% off if you book on-line and they deliver to the local area too (allow a bit extra time for GF).

The Chip Inn is a great wee takeaway who do Fish and Chips, Pizza and Kebabs. The food here is of a very high standard and the staff can have some great banter! Their Fish and Chips are great, a tasty treat once in a while for us! The Pizza from the Chip Inn is great and has stopped me using Dominos or Pizza Hut as they are so much tastier and cost less to boot, nothing seems too much troble for them in there and my pizza is usually a half and half Chicken and Sweetcorn/Pepperoni. I recommend you give the Chip Inn a try for yourself, you'll not be disapointed!

The chips are fantastic and the Staff are very friendly. They even have a Celiac / Gluten free menu, try the Gluten free Black pudding! We typically order online and collect, although they do also deliver.

First time ordering from chip inn.cannot fault the fish we had .my husband had the gluten free fish & I had the fish from the regular menu.will be try again and if I get same service it wil become my regular chippy .very friendly staff .can't wait for my next visit

Found this restaurant today and would thoroughly recommend. They have an entire coeliac menu with lots of choices. I had a fish supper and it was delicious. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. I was advised to ring ahead next time as it takes a little longer to cook. It was such a treat to have so many gluten free choices.

Absolutely delighted to find really very nice gluten free fish and chips in Edinburgh! Being a coeliac, as opposed to a preference, it's really tricky to eat out and know that you will not be very unwell afterwards.The staff are excellent, well trained and friendly. They have an entirely separate area of the kitchen for preparing the GF food, and a separate fryer for GF too. Chips, fish, sausages, onion rings - all GF batter, not contaminated. One happy stomach, one happy girl :)
