Siamo stati sia a dicembre 2018 che novembre 2019 e ci siamo trovati bene.Personale cordiale,pulito e soprattutto buon cibo a prezzo giusto.Noi abbiamo provato tutte e due le volte panini con hamburger e patatine davvero buoni.Un saluto dall'Italia.

We ordered a Just Eat from here and very much enjoyed it. Food was fresh and tasty. Would definitely order again

We absolutely loved visiting Uncles! Motu who served us was so lovely that we even returned the next day to enjoy more value for money food and brilliant hospitality. Would recommend! Best place in town for a fried marsbar.

Awful frozen food, charging extortionate prices. fish was watery. Chips were frozen and fish cakes were frozen. Avoid at all costs.

Cuando estábamos en Edimburgo, probamos pescado y papas fritas aquí. La porción es muy grande. Compartimos 2 fish and chips para 4 de nosotros. Tal vez porque somos asiáticos, por lo que su porción es lo suficientemente grande para nosotros. Pedimos también chocolate caliente. Tiene un sabor muy delicioso. Lo extrañé un poco. Espero que algún día pueda comer allí y visitar Edimburgo.

Wir waren hier zum Fisch und Chips essen. Freundliche Leute und sauber! Die Portion war riesig und der Geschmack ok. Hat uns jetzt nicht vom Hocker gerissen aber war ok.

Very cozy and friendly restautant in one of the main street of Edinburg. Fish & chips served was very tasty. Staff and patronage are very warm and friendly. Quick service even it was full of guests. Highy recommend this nice restautant.

I have never had food like this, had burger and chips, chips were disgusting,cold, looked like they had been sat there for 2 days then reheated, latte was awful and burgers just disgusting, charged £26 for inedible food, paid for quarter pounder beef burger, was served cheap hamburger

After a few drinks fancied some chips. Surely no one could do them wrong....I was wrong! they didn't come out of a deep fat fryer just reheated in a microwave. No need for this your in a prime location just do the basics right

Chips were cold as a rock; smelled old and awful. Told the owner there was a man standing right at the door smoking and he was least bothered by it. Strongly not recommended. The guy behind the counter is nice.

We went for the sausage and chips, the chips had gone chewy due to being sat under the heater and the sausage was just as bad

Wij hadden even geen zin meer in Fish & Chips en besloten te gaan voor de wraps: een chicken-bacon wrap en een falafel wrap. De porties zijn groot, de prijzen prima. De bediening is lekker vlot. Als je zin hebt in een snack dan is dit echt een prima restaurant.

Honestly, no self respecting local would eat here and the place is only successful because it is in a prime area frequented by day-trippers, Harry Potter geeks and bemused backpackers.

Buena relacion precio calidad, buena atencion, comida super fresca y muy sabrosa, ubicado en el centro de Edimburgo y por sobretodo abierto hasta tarde, cosa rara por esos lares, buena opcion para llevar.

Haggis and chips were viewed with some skepticism, and consumed with trepidation. But no harm came of this adventure and after the event it was viewed as the perfect end to a fine night on the town. Thank you Uncle and thank you Edinburgh !

I went to the place yesterday and had scampi and chips. The portions were quite generous and the prices average, but that's about it. The scampi were tasteless, while the chips were undercooked and cold. I wouldn't recommend the place.

EDINBURGH on the weekend is usually buzzing with overly excited students, dazed tourists and grumpy throngs of shoppers. Not ideal if you have a young family and just want somewhere to have lunch as most places are either over priced or too small for a push chair. Thankfully Uncles Fish and Chips is perfectly suited in the middle of Edinburgh and provides a great respite from the noisy and fractious hubbub of the city. The food is good, the service great and we all enjoyed the food. So many thanks to this place for making our weekend trip to Edinburgh more enjoyable. Visit this place if you are in the area!

This wasn’t anything amazing in terms of food but I wouldn’t expect more from a local fish & chip shop. The staff were friendly and we got what we asked for... We had chips with gravy. My husband was happy that they also served beer.

2 cheesy chips 1 garlic sauce 2 cans of pop... £11.40 Ridiculously expensive for poor food, such as shame as the gentleman was very polite. Garlic sauce... tasteless Cheese... tasteless. May you need to be too drunk to function to enjoy this food.

I popped in here today for a quick lunch. The location is ideal- a stone's throw from the castle and centre of the Old Town. The menu is extensive- pizzas, kebabs, burgers, fish and so on. I settled on scampi and chips, which arrived quickly....

Visitamos el festival Fringe mientras explora en agosto. Pedimos un flan blanco individual (sin patatas fritas! 1 x bandeja de patatas fritas con salsa de curry y la cena de un niño con nugget una botella pequeña de agua y vino a £19. 85! !...

Después de ver un espectáculo en el Fringe cerca de Edimburgo, nos habían recomendado probar el tío para grub, servicio rápido y bueno, especialmente para la ubicación y en la temporada de fringe, muy buena relación calidad-precio. No nos decepcionó.

Patatas fritas bastante regular. Pasada de salchichas. Grasienta tarta. Etiqueta de precio enorme. Si no tienes otra opción, supongo que no está mal. Si tienes otras opciones, luego evitar.

Tuvimos una comida hoy aquí, mi madre tenía un Kebab de pollo que sabían como de goma y 2 pescado a las patatas fritas que hecha! Lo peor era que todos vinieron a 45 libras! Incluyendo el Kebab de pollo que mi madre apenas tocado!

A pesar del agradable trato, apenas había platos de la carta, servicio lento, lugar hacinado (mesas muy juntas), y con ruido.

Vine aquí con la familia para cenar. Al llegar al lugar no es acogedor y bastante desierta, sin embargo, decidimos quedarnos.

We went to this restaurant because of where it was located--just down from the Elephant House Cafe--and because the prices looked affordable on the menu out front--not because of any preplanning on our part. We were pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the staff and the variety of food choices. We all ordered different food--fish and chips (a bit greasy, but tasty), beef pie (good portion and gravy, but crust was burnt and hard), Mexican pizza (very well cooked). The wait time wasn't too bad and the food came hot. Not a bad place for the cost.

The great news is that everyone in the family found something on the menu to eat. There is a sit down area with a friendly and attentive staff. The food tastes fine. A little pricy for lunch at 36 pounds for a family of four whose other sit down lunches were 18-25pounds in the same town.

Before I continue I should point out that I am not Marine palaeontologist, however I am pretty sure that the fish they served me on Friday even had been in that fryer since around the time the Royal Mile was formed by the retreat of an ice age over 325 million years ago. The chips were not much younger. Fish super in the bin before I’d walked the 150m to the High Street. Worse fish supper I’ve ever had.

The man who runs (at least as of 2015) this establishment, the titular "uncle" of its name, is a kind, generous and friendly man who is a fantastic host to his friends and regular patrons, offering them a warm handshake and fantastic service. I never went here for the Chip shop food - where this place has always shined for me is as a post night out place to get a Kebab in its various forms (traditional, on a pizza, calzone...). I would always in my student days divert any amount of distance to get that late night essential snack from Uncle rather than one of his countless competitors. Sadly the extremely high quality of these kebabs (and a new found love of beer) resulted in me piling on several stone back in those days when Uncle operated the kebab shop down the street at Forrest Road. Thankfully I now have the pressures of a 9 til 5 work life, so can no longer attend this establishment very often - good news for my body, but sad, sad news for my soul.

I went in for a fish butty and they didn't know what I wanted so I got my husband fish and chips and chips for myself and it all ended up in the bin will never eat here again waste of my money

We visited this establishment in 2013 and had the surprise of our life. The portions were so large that 1 could feed 2 people easily. The staff was enthousiastic almost to the point of distraction. The cost was very reasonable (less than 40 pounds for the 4 of us )and also included an alcoholic beverage. We will be visiting Scotland again in 2017 and will be sure to visit again.

The fish and chips were perfect! Way too much for one person to eat, but I did. The guys were fantastic and very friendly. It was a great place to stop and have lunch while stomping around Edinburgh.

Visitamos porque era um dos lugares onde poderíamos encontrar o famoso Mars empanado e frito da Escócia. É um doce gostoso e com bom preço, o ambiente é agradável e quentinho. Provamos tb a pizza frita, mas desse prato não gostamos, é muito seco e não tem sabor de pizza.

Este lugar es una muy buena opción para los que estamos acostumbrados a cenar tarde ya que en escocia es muy raro encontrar lugares que esten abiertos pasadas las 22:30 el fish and chips de este lugar es muy abundante y lo podes llevar.

Popped in this week for a take away to take back to the hotel we were staying in close by, fish was very big alas did have a couple small bones but cannot be helped. Chips were good also and not greasy at all. The person serving was also friendly and very helpful!Was tempted to try the haggis pizza!

Their services were terrible, never been to an restaurant worser than this one. Staffs especially the boss, were extremely rude. Had such a horrible experience there and will never go back again.Had to wait for the food for longer than 20 minutes and it wasn't worth that price either.Highly not recommended!

This place deserves 5 stars. The staff and really friendly and helpful, the location is wonderful, and the range and quality of the food is amazing. Everything is freshly cooked and so the take away may not always be as quick as other places, but there is the option to sit in and relax with a drink while your food s being prepared rather than head straight back into the street.

Posto very easy. Devo però proprio dire che ad Edinburgh è stato il mio fish and chips preferito. Porzioni enormi: ne basterebbe una in due. Chiedete la tartare sauce e vi porteranno la Heinz, se non vi accontentate dell'HP sul tavolo, o dell'aceto di malto. Anche le chips croccanti a dovere. Nel menu altri piatti.

Visited during the Edinburgh festival, as we did last year. We ordered fish and chips and a bottle of Bud.We sat outside and waited for about 10 minutes until it was served. The fish was very large with a crispy batter. There was not an over abundance of chips. There were mushy peas. Neither of us like mushy peas, so we left them. People passing on the street commented on the size of the fish, and it was delicious, large flakes, well cooked and flavoursome. When we went inside to pay we nearly fell over when the bill came to over £27!!! A fish supper is over £11, which we found to be very expensive. I don't remember it being that much last year.We appreciate the quality of the fish was high, plus reckon Edinburgh business rates are not cheap, but we didn't expect to get just a couple of quid change out of £30 for 2 fish suppers.We'll give this establishment a miss next year and eat elsewhere.

My daughter had a donner meal which she loved and i gad a good burger with proper chips. A little bit overcrowded but okay for a quick lunch. Service quick and to the point.

Puedes tomarlo alli o llevartelo. Lo tomamos alli. El personal es agradable y la comida es bastante normal. Esta buena pero tampoco es espectacular. Tomamos un wrap de pollo mexicano, que estaba muy bien condimentado y un haggin, que al ser frito, ese si estaba pelin seco, pero bueno.Para parar esta bien, pero sin esperar nada impresionante

First of all this restaurant is very nice and good for relaxing .. I've been in this place with my family and we were so hungry. My husband ordered a fish and chips, for son we had chicken nuggets and I had chicken burger .. Chicken was so tasty especially with ketchup :) All I can say about this place 'it's very good ' and definitely recommended for the people who wants to have good quality food and with a nice cup of coffee

I popped in this place as I had done a lot of walking up the Royal Mile. As I was passing Uncle's the fish and chips on people's plates caught my eye at how delicious it looked. The staff were so friendly and were more than happy to help me decide what to get. They suggested their most popular dish, the famous fish and chips. I have to say it was the best fish and chips I've ever had. The portion was more than enough and it was absolutely delicious!! I visited again after that and will definitely be visiting more often.

We were walking around town and decided to stop for a bite. Wish we would have kept walking. The staff was very nice but the fish and chips were not good at all. They had no taste and were so greasy. The place was very busy and the other items on the menu may be fine but if you are looking for fish and chips keep walking.

I've visited this establishment on numerous occasions since it's about the only reasonably priced eating place near my place of work. The menu is suitably varied. However, with the rate at which food is served it cannot be freshly cooked, and this obviously has a detrimental effect on its quality ... Generally the food is dry, sadly lacking in the greasiness that one expects from a good quality chip shop, and the sauces provided are of poor quality. Having said that, it isn't that bad ... It can't be.... I keep going back! And will no doubt continue to do so.

I went with my friends to this shop and my friend had the chicken kebab and she was very happy , she said it was amazing . Decided on takeaway fish and chips after a long day's sightseeing so we could go back to our apartment nearby and just flop........I don't really enjoy takeaways at the best of times as when I have had fish and chips in the past it tastes like the fish died a long time ago and the chips are a mass of soggy offerings......However, this fish and chip offering was a whole different kettle of fish! (Excuse the pun)The fish was beautiful - sweet tasting, moist and so fresh. The chips I could not have cooked better myself. They were golden and crisp but melt in the mouth, again really freshly cooked. I was amazed! Best ever fish & chips by along run. Miles better than the famous chain franchise.My partner had haggis and chips and thoroughly e jogged his to. You can eat in at Uncles but it was very busy when we arrived so thought we would do the takeaway option.However, to my mind, a full restaurant speaks volumes and is testament to great food!Top marks 'Uncles' - on a 'scale' of 1-10 I give you twelve! Excellent.

Man sollte nicht allzuviel erwarten wenn man ins Uncles reingeht, der Service ist etwas langsam und das Essen, nun ja, Fast Food. Zum schlimmsten Hunger stillen reichts.

Firstly I want to say that the family who own this business welcome everyone here - even the drunk, hapless crowd that come in from clubs and pubs all around this place. It can be a good thing, if you're one of those people looking for food, or an annoying thing if you're not wanting to surround yourself with people like that however we all share one thing - we need to eat late when nothing else is open!They do your typical fry up take away - burgers, fish/chips, sausages etc and have eat in space, though the tables are gross admittedly.I had fish & chips when it was late and nothing was open (I'd been walking around Edinburgh for 2 hours hoping to find a restaurant open past 9:00pm - it just doesn't happen. So, it's 11:00pm, I'm hungry and these guys were open - simple. Fish & chips (see pic) were fine, edible and the batter was surprisingly nice to eat. Not too oily at all and the chips were great - thick, steak cut chips.

After NYE celebrations were done and dusted , we needed to eat . Most places were closed but not this fish and chip shop, I give them credit for working so hard . Chips were ok but didn't taste hand cut , pie was not great , I think they should go for better quality as they have a prime location .

Abbiamo trovato per caso questo locale. Abbiamo preso fish and chips, haggis fritto e due coca cola. Ci hanno cucinato tutto al momento ed era tutto ottimo e cotto alla perfezione. Se cercate del buon street food questo locale ve lo consiglio vivamente anche perchè è abbastanza economico: mi sembra che per tutto abbiamo speso una decina di sterline. Consigliato!!!

Called in for lunch, thought due to the prices being high even for Edinburgh standards we would be ok, how wrong I was. One dinner went straight back, stone cold, and when the replacement came the rest of us had finished. Crap chips, awful sausages, expensive cans of coke, avoid.

The prices are far higher than competitors and the size of portion is tiny. A sausage supper is more like a sausage snack. It also tastes worse than many other chip shops.AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

The food was definitely great. I had a falafel and everything tasted super fresh.The place is side by side to really nice decorated and cozy restaurants on the street and it could use a different decoration / lighting to be more attractive.But food wise, top notch.

We visited here while in Old Town mainly because we had been looking for somewhere that advertised serving deep fried mars bars. What may look like a small high street chippy from the outside changes into a lovely eat-in restaurant once inside. We were made to feel very welcome and were very pleasantly surprised with the presentation of our food. I am only gutted we didn't eat a meal there as other peoples food looked delicious!!

Wir waren im Rahmen einer Städtetour hier zum Essen eingekehrt. Fish&Chips wurde frisch zubereitet - aber das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis war nicht gut. Der Preis war hoch im Vergleich zu anderen Anbietern - vielleicht lag es an der doch recht zentralen Lage in der Nähe zur Royal Mile. Beim nächsten Städtetrip nach Edinburgh würde ich dort sehr wahrscheinlich nicht wieder einkehren.

My experience with fish n chips in the US has been small pieces of previously-frozen, farmed fish wrapped in a greasy crust. I doubt that I will ever eat fish n chips in the US again after experiencing Uncles fish n chips in Edinburgh.The fish filet, a large fresh whitefish (haddock or cod) was at least a foot long and nearly an inch thick. It was so fresh and flavorful, I wondered if it was caught locally that morning. There was no indication the filet had ever been frozen.The breading complemented the fish, without overwhelming it. Uncles fish n chips was the most memorable fish n chips on my three week trip to Scotland and Ireland. Truly a delightful dining experience, with a courteous and helpful wait staff.

Fast food à l'emporter très ordinaire; quelques places assises. Bien situé à proximité des principales attractions touristique d'Edimbourg. Nourriture quelconque, mais copieuse. Prix largement gonflés durant le Festival; quand je m'en suis plaint auprès du responsable celui-ci m'a répondu avec franchise et un grand sourir "Que voulez-vous? C'est l'époque du Festival". A éviter.

The best fish 'n' chips I've had in Scotland, if not the best I've ever had. The food tasted great and the service was superb. I would advise anyone visiting Edinburgh to pay a visit and have the haddock at Uncles.

I was in a hurry and made the mistake of not looking at the menu before ordering a fish supper and a cup of tea. I expected to pay £10 at most. On the plus side, the fish was enormous and I was served a nice pot of tea. No complaints at all about the food or service, which was fine. However I was then presented with a bill for £14.40. I have since looked at their menu online and the prices there are considerably cheaper. To be charitable, it was maybe my own fault for not looking at the menu before ordering. However it was a lot to pay for eating in a cafe, albeit a centrally placed one. I am in Edinburgh a lot and am unlikely to return to this establishment..
