Chinatown in Christchurch

We have used Chinatown for years It’s always hot when it come to the door because we have delivered and the food is lovely especially the breaded chicken and they are really friendly people that work in there and this is the only Chinese I would use and I would recommend it to anyone Mr Barry Webber

Best Chinese in the area, went on Saturday and had a huge meal which was delicious. Absolutely worth the wait times which are sometimes longer but this is because of popularity!

Ordered our food for a family meal, it took 11/2 hours to arrive and even then half was missing. Was not impressed with the service or that they asked me to go and collect the missing items! Not sure I’ll use again it really ruined the evening

Ordered a delivery to New Milton with an estimated wait of 45 minutes. Phoned after almost 80 minutes to be told they only had 1 delivery driver, who was about 10 minutes from returning to the restaurant and our food would come after that. The delivery was finally made after 105 minutes. Thankfully the food was still hot and delicious, but the wait time coupled with no apology from the driver and no offer of a refund or partial refund from whoever answered the phone was shockingly bad. Awful way to treat customers. Not sure I'll be risking ordering again.

Expensive and portions were small ordered a large rice and it was not large Seaweed was stale, Prawn crackers were staleand tasteless the other food was as expected but size was small. Very unimpressed and spent alot of money will not be buying from here again

I used to order from here once or twice a month. I was quite pleased I’d found a local takeaway I like. Well never again. I spent over £26 on food on Wednesday night. It took an hour and a half to arrive. I mentioned how long I’d been waiting to the delivery driver and he put his hands in the air and said ‘I’m just a delivery driver’ and backed away from me. The chips were so undercooked they were inedible. I phoned up to ask if they would refund the chips and the man I spoke to presumably the owner told me he doesn’t know how to refund a credit card…I find this extremely hard to believe. He has told me the one employee he has that knows how to do this will be in today and will do it for me today. But he also said they had a new card machine. That they were extremely busy. That they only had one delivery driver. He then said he’d send someone round with the cash. I said no thank you, I don’t want someone ringing my bell and waking up my children! It was like he was giving me every excuse he could think of. We got into a minor argument and I was left feeling shaky. I ate one small dish which was extremely salty with unappetising looking black lined prawns in it and then went to bed upset.

I then revived a txt at 930 2 hours after my food should have been ready for me to collect joke of a place avoid !

Arrived in Highcliffe late Friday night with the kids to visit family the next day. Grabbed a take out from here (R3 for 2 people) and headed to check in at the hotel and eat in our room before bed. Friendly welcome, nice staff, quick turnaround from order to serving, awesome portions (so much food!), really enjoyed the dishes - made a late, hungry Friday night arrival after a king drive very easy, thank you ! 🍽️ Good food 🏃 Fast Service 💰 Good value for money 🙋🏻‍♂️ Nice staff 🧼 Clean

Cannot recommend Chinatown enough. It is our go to Chinese takeaway in the area. Not only are the dishes delicious, warm and fast, but the customer service is always so warm and friendly. My partner and I love treating ourselves to takeaway here! Being a fellow Oriental, that is a very big compliment :)

Just had a takeaway from here , delivered 15 late. As I'm staying at a holiday park it's to far away to return, but it was mediocre to say the least. We have dumped half of it in the bin. Could not recommend to anyone.

We had a home delivery last night, I kid you not, was absolutely the best and too boot was piping hot. We live at Purewell so a tad away for delivery guy. Will always use Chinatown. Thanks.

Regret there is little I can say that is positive other than that the service was quick. Perhaps 10 minutes from order to collection is just too quick, Everything seemed overcooked and sauces were lacking in flavour, plus the seaweed was drenched in sugar, Overall an experience no to be repeated

Worst Chinese take away I have ever had, couldn’t eat a single thing had to Chuck it all in the bin. Absolutely awful. Salt and pepper chicken was raw inside, chow mein over cooked rice tasteless. First time ordering from here and definitely will not be ordering again

Ordered via Deliveroo app. Food arrived within 20 mins, less than half the delivery estimate! Food was hot and everything we ordered was delicious. Loved they had a really good selection of vegetarian options too. Thought prices were reasonable and the portions were just right. Will definitely use again !

We stayed on a local site and the owner recommended Chinatown to us. They delivered to the site. The food arrived swiftly, piping hot and fresh. Will definitely use again next time we are in the area.

Staying locally and this was recommended by another campsite user. Awful food, we had 1/4 duck, sweet and sour hong king chicken, egg fried rice, Singapore rice noodles and chips. The chicken meat was revolting. Dislike posting negative reviews but this was a dreadful, dreadful meal that we ended up throwing in the bin.

Delivery was only around 10 mins late which took it to 80mins wait. We had to reheat the order as it was stone cold. The sticky beef was nice, the chicken satay was bland, and the curry had no curry taste but had a cornflour taste and very thick unpleasant texture which made it inedible unfortunately.

Do not order from here waste of time and money. 1. Ordered three items at 16:50 on uber eats. Delivery was scheduled between 17:30 to 17:50. 2. No food by 18:00 so phoned up for update, order on its way I was told. No update or delivery tracking on the uber eats app during any of the process. 3. 18:10 Delivery driver called from wrong address further down the road very confused said he was given wrong address by owner. Had to go out to street to flag him down. 4. Back inside opened bag to find chicken balls missing from 3 item order. Officially cheesed off phoned the shop and was told they would cook and deliver them. Dubious to how long this would take I asked how long as I expected the rest of my order would be cold by the time it arrived, was told would cook whole order again which sounded reasonable given the hassle. 5. As you can probably guess food never arrived. Absolute shambles don’t waste your time or money.

Ordered a special chowmein. Absolute garbage. 4 prawns 5 pieces of chicken No beef No pork Half a dozen pieces of cubed ham..??? Ignorant delivery man. I will never use again.

We have ordered from here a few times and enjoyed the food. However, last night we ordered a lot of food and spent around £37. We ordered the sharing platter and sadly all of it was over cooked. We also ordered the salt and pepper Tofu, I've atttached a photo. This was so over cooked and crisp that we couldnt eat any of it. The sweet n sour chicken balls were average but again over cooked. On the plus side the beef in black bean sauce was okay and the king prawn stir fry was edible. The seaweed was covered in sugar. We waited around 45 mins for this meal and had to phone to chase this up. I can only imagine the fried stuff was sitting around waiting to be delivered. It was very disappointing and sadly we will not be ordering from here again. We ate the beef and king prawn stir fry just because we were starving and had a stressful day arranging a funeral.:(

We have been using Chinatown for many years, have tried other local outlets for comparison but always end up going back. Food is always, warm, delicious and delivery always on time. Had another meal last night, big portions and everyone was full and happy after, will use again.

Really disappointed with the amount of cornflower used in every dish at Chinatown, plus the amount of vegetables Chinatown puts in every meat dish to baulk it out - you can see the twice cooked pork dish is over half full when all but one piece of meat is removed. Must do better.

I am visiting the area with my family and fancied a takeaway. The Chinatown was really tasty food, the best Chinese I have had in a while. I would recommend the king prawns, they are very large. Fairly priced too.

Chinatown is a very popular Chinese take a way. It's popular because the food is cooked and presented very well. All the staff are very polite and very helpful. I have been using Chinatown for twenty years. Well done Chinatown keep up the good work.

I write this review with a heavy heart because we have been using Chinatown, Highcliffe now for the last 15 years or more exclusively. But something serious has happened. For the last six months at times when it was open because of the current lockdown we have experienced a distinct reduction in the taste quality of dishes. In particular we most frequently purchase the Beef in Black Pepper Sauce which was their signature dish as far as we were concerned and every one we invited round to join us for a meal thought it was superb. But now for some time this has not been the case. The sauce just tastes like ordinary weak gravy without any oomph which it used to have. The beef is tough where before it virtually melted in the mouth. We have endeavoured to improve it with added pepper but all to no avail. The last meal we had three quarters of it went down the waste disposal unit and sadly that is what it has come to; that was the last meal we shall have there until we hopefully see reports of a dramatic improvement in standards. I would suggest that the powers that be carry out a review of the ingredients and methods of over twelve months ago and see if they can't return to those halcyon days. Regrettably our comments refer to several other dishes where there is a distinct lack of flavour and everything just tastes bland. I am driven to write this review as I have tried to contact someone on the telephone through the day without success and there is no email address printed on the menu.

We’ve been ordering from China Town for over 16 years. We’ve always found the food of such a high standard, and recommended it to friends and family. However, the last 2 haven’t been very good at all. The order was wrong last week, and the food bland, especially the chicken satay. The sauce was runny and the pieces of chicken was chewy. We tried it again last night, again the food wasn’t great. The prawn balls were tiny, and the rest was just tasteless. I even asked when I placed the order, if it had changed hands, but no!! Very disappointing!! This is such a shame!! What’s happened China Town??

Started using China-town after a recommendation in early 2000 and have never used any other since. Last night was a typical example - huge prawns when they say large they mean the biggest - all food was tasty and well prepared - always recommend friends to this take away and noone has ever been disappointed.

Have eaten food from here one time before,i was middle of the road but after the second time? My stomach feels like a washing machine:( would not recommend

Second time of ordering, was average the first time. Is definitely below average now. We ate it because we were hungry but actually it wasn't a good meal. Veg and meat dishes in cheap Sunday roast style gravy, very low quality chicken, sesame prawn toast with no prawn (we searched) that was dry and tasteless, more sesame seeds than actual toast. No actual Chinese flavouring or actual flavour as far as I could taste in anything really. Somewhat of a let down and waste of money. I have to say this is such a wasted opportunity. Very few takeaways in the area. Even fewer good ones.

Had our second takeaway from Chinatown in three weeks and will not go anywhere else now . From ordering on the phone to collection was hassle free and the order was absolutely correct in collection . The food was hot and delicious would highly recommend, our favourite Chinese thank you Chinatown for your wonderful food and great customer service

Chinatown is the worst Chinese takeaway Ive ever tried !!Great Reviews , I can’t believe these are Real. Last one clearly says no delivery fees > within a distance and a minimum order of £12 . Been working abroad as a chef. Tried this Nice looking takeaway “ Chinatown “ it was the worst I’ve had for years ! Chow Mein was the worst I’ve ever had. Asked for Kung po chicken to be extra spicy. The dumpling were warm and the pancake role was not crispy , either sat around for an hour or was already precooked and just microwaved!!! I personally think none of the cooks ever taste anything. It was luck warm but both main dish’s had no taste. Offered to replace if I ordered another dish. Not a great experience. I won’t be using them again

Always had a good take-away from this restaurant. The food is cooked fresh, and you can see that from the counter. The menu is typicaly varied, as you'd expect in a Chinese take-away. There is parking nearby.

The food was middle of the road. The delivery man was extremely rude. It is the first and last time I order from them. *In answer to your response. I did give the correct address and did answer my phone. In fact, I phoned the delivery man back because he was phoning for seconds and hanging up.

Ordered from here twice now and had delivered on both occasions. The service is excellent and deliveries were on time and still hot. We enjoyed the ribs in capital sauce, baked chicken wings, salt and pepper ribs. However slightly disappointed with the BBQ ribs we were expecting full ribs in a thick BBQ sauce but these were small pieces of ribs in a very strange tasting watery sauce. Stir fried king prawn in szechuan sauce. stir fried beef in green pepper and black bean sauce, Sir fried beef in capital sauce, salt and pepper squid, certainly were delicious. However we were slightly disappointed with the Kung po chicken and deep fried crispy beef were very soggy and not crispy at all the sauce was delicious though. It might be an idea to serve the sauce separately in a pot for the customer to pour over when they get home, Its a shame that some items on the menu are not described fully ie whether they come with a sauce or vegetables ie shredded fried smoked chicken? and salt and pepper chicken. We did ask for a portion of noodles and beansprouts which is a common side dish with most chinese restaurants - we prefer noodles with our chinese dishes over rice but they were unable to provide this they did offer a portion of bean sprouts and chow mein. Unfortunately the chow mein was very sticky and dry and we did not eat it. Having only been slightly disappointed we would still certainly recommend this chinese takaway as everyones tastes are different. The food is well worth trying for yourself.

Lovely Chinese, salt pepper ribs were great but could be cut slightly bigger. But very tender.Kung po chicken great few crispy ones and some really nice melt in the mouth, it did travel to Lymington.Chicken chow mein perfect with the burnt smokey flavour.Highly recommend I think this is the best in the are.

In my view the best Chinese takeaway in the area. The service is extremely quick even in busy times and the quality of the food superb. The staff work extremely hard to get your order out promptly. The place is clean and tidy and well deserves its 5 hygiene certificate. Local delivery is also available.

Found metal in the chicken , took back and got refund but just can’t believe that this was allowed to happen . Feeling very very let down !

Haven't found a better Chinese takeaway that delivers to Bransgore. I've found several dishes that I enjoy so far , and will be trying more. Its very busy mostly at weekends , so you have to be patient trying to get through on the phone

The best Chinese around & not expensive

We order food from here at least once a week, sometimes for delivery (we are a couple of miles away) and other times we collect. Have tried almost everything on the menu and it's always superb, and they have Gluten free options too - just ask!. Staff are super friendly and efficient, always a delightful experience :-) Particular highlights are the Salt & Pepper and Capital ribs, Sweet & Sour Chicken and Singapore Noodles, however everything else is very good too. Keep up the great work!

I have been using this fabulous takeaway for the last few years, it never let's you down. The menu is very varied and caters for most and at great value for money. It may Be in a small Town however it is just as good a any other restaurant around the globe. Just fabulous.. Thank you for always delivering the most enjoyable meals.

I was delighted to find Chinatown, and I have to say that the food was so tasty that I returned the next day for some more!! The staff are very friendly and there is an extensive menu. The food was the most tasty that we have ever had from a takeaway and I am just so sad that it is so far from my home. when I am in the area again I will definitely be returning here. Highcliffe has a couple of Chinese restaurants but Chinatown is the best in my opinion. The Beef in crushed black pepper sauce is delicious.

Had a fixed meal E2. It was ok. The pancake rolls and chicken were very greasy. Not recommended.

We love Chinese food and while on holiday thought we would here! No lie.... it’s the best Chinese we have ever eaten!! Fresh clean ingredients and so delicious. Wish we found them at the beginning of our holiday!! We will be back next year keep up the good work!

Great tasting Chinese food with friendly staff

Read previous reviews, called to place order and asked for meal to be delivered at a charge of £3.00. We were informed driver would call when at entrance to our country park. Walked down to meet him to give directions as he failed to call, then he very rudely refused to compete the delivery but still charged us for it. The food was tepid, sloppy, tasteless and no ginger at all in the ginger chicken which was undercooked, prawns pretty much the same. Most of it went in the bin. Won't be making that mistake again.

We have been using this place for a pretty long time. The food is always consistent and very good. We tend to phone our order in and then pick it up 10-15mins later. The Singapore noodles are great as are all the Currys.

TLDR: MADE US ALL VIOLENTLY ILL. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. We had regularly used Chinatown as our main takeaway choice as the food seemed to be great. This was until today. Today we ordered a delivery which arrived about 10 minutes after ordering which was extremely suspicious and to be honest should have been the first clue. It's now 3 am and me and my daughter have been puking it all back up after feeling ill since about an hour after eating. WARNIG Do not buy from here.

Like anything you have good and bad days, unfortunately they seem to be having more bad days than good. Food quality and taste seem to be slipping. Sorry there are no food standards horrible food shredded beef could be used to cut diamonds. Will never use again.

Large portions, hot food, tasted fresh a really lovely experience. However ribs were very dry, ordered two portions so was disappointed, flavour was excellent though.

Arrived at peak time. Staff very helpful when placing order with them. Good choice of meals and well priced too. Meal preparation was very quick. Meal was delicious and just the right amount for five of us. Chicken stir fry was particularly good. Lovely and tender.

Excellent food and staff very helpful and friendly. I travel 3 miles to get to this takeaway as find the food the highest of standard and by far the best in the area !! We tend to order once a month from this takeaway and always enjoy the food.

Otro descubrimiento en la Lymington Road y qué encontrar. Nos podría haber sido perdonado por pensar que hubiera China y esperando el habitual agradable pero familiar. Fuimos en seguros, pero el Señor nos dijo que podíamos pedir y que estaría lista en breve. Hicimos algunos menús y tuvimos un agradable paseo hasta la costa mientras decidimos lo que queríamos desde el menú. Cuando volvimos hicimos nuestro pedido y estaban a punto de salir, pero la dueña dijo que podía esperar. Parecía que sólo esperar un tiempo realmente corto, China fue el más rápido en el que he estado.
