Started badly. We were running late due to traffic so called ahead and spoke to Samantha. We were told our table could only be held for 30mins and that we may be charged as a no show if we were later. This was stressful. When we got to the restaurant around 20mins late, everything worked out fine. However, there were plenty of two seat tables that remained empty for the duration of our meal - what was the point of stressing us that we may lose our table / get charged when the restaurant was barely half full all evening?!?! Table service was good but the restaurant decor looks very tired, needs a refurbishment.

My husband and myself visited China Tang for dinner tonight. A tick from my bucket list. Sad to say the food was not as good as I had expected, no real flavour, quite bland. China town has better food. The bill for food was high and just for the privilege of attending the Dorchester. The staff and cocktail were very good. We will not return…..

Very quiet when we arrived for lunch, therefore not much atmosphere. Surprisingly, despite being so quiet, the service was pretty poor, when staff were around they were helpful and polite but they seemed to hide away. The food was tasty, but nothing special, could have been from any Dim Sum restaurant in China Town really. Overall, apart from the prices it wasn't really in keeping with The Dorchester ethos.

The food was average. My expectations were high as the restaurant is at The Dorchester. We could have been at any high street formula Chinese restaurant or even better gone to china town.. The serving staff in white uniforms were miserable. The place was quiet with no atmosphere. Can’t say I’ll be rushing back there ..

Looks very nice. But this visit wasn't on par. Food was bland and sadly 45 minutes between starter and mains. No fault to our waiter, who looked like she was doing a 3 person job and sadly distressed due to the work load but she was great when she had the chance to serve us. Paid a premium but disappointed.

Do not waste your time nor money! Very dated decor, was served food on roasting hot plate but the actual meat was cold and it was not meant to be a cold dish! Also I asked for my chicken to be spicy and it was notH Other dishes were flavourless, this is food for the bland palate not proper chinese food at all! At some point our waitress said it is last orders for the kitchen, we asked how about desserts, she said no those will be fine. It took forever to get drinks, we had reorder drinks many times. When we wanted order desserts we were told we cannot get certain ones as kitchen is closed, so then rechoose and then after a long wait we are told those are sold out, then we rechoose and then another wait and even our 3rd choices are sold out! Totally substandard service for such a big hotel and name! We had received these ting morsels of brownies as complimentary as it was a friend’s birthday, so one girl from our group of 6 asked if we could perhaps have those to make up for fact we cannot order any desserts! It again took twice for manager to come back and say are these ok? When they brought the 2 people who were able to get a dessert out of 6 , no we asked you specifically as 4 of us could not get dessert! Such a mess! Price does not equate, quality of food, decor/environment, taste/flavour nor service!

Arriving at the side door of The Dorchester in the rain to learn that you can’t access the restaurant from that side at lunch was disappointing and wet. Teaches me to be early I guess. Anyway, into the main reception and then we sat in the lobby for a bit and then on to the restaurant. A dark, retro, underground place that looks dingy and classy at the same time. It’s was a Friday lunch and we were the first to arrive. It was easy to book, and that always starts to worry me - perhaps it’s not that good. But then we ordered the food; sooo much choice, from mega expensive £70 per dish scallops to reasonable priced dim sum dishes. We had a selection of dim sums and then some rice and crispy fried beef. I say some rice; it was a wagyu with black rice dish and it was immense. And yes i ordered crispy shredded beef because at £28 i wanted, nay needed, to see whether they could elevate it beyond basic. Short answer: damn straight they can. Every dim sum was beautiful, flavourful and perfectly made. The drinks were special too. I had the herbal mocktail and it was like drinking Asian flavours. Amazing. I’ve seen comments about service, but I felt it was decent. Not star winning, but still efficient and friendly.

The Food was superb, the service was excellent as we had booked for a private dining room PING with a circular table. All booking arrangements were handled very efficiently by Holmes Lai. The table service was supervised by Tammy, John Su & Dolan in a highly professional manner with attention to detail. We had selected the full menu including the drinks one week before the event. So there was no delay in the food items to be served. The best items of food that we liked were Vegetable Spring Rolls, Deep Fried Prawn Won Ton, and Sir David’s Hot and Sour Soup. The main course was delicious including Wild Steamed Sea Bass with Chopped Chilli and Stir-Fried Fillet of Beef in Black Pepper. Stir-Fried Egg Noodles with Soya Sauce and Bean Sprouts were the best noodles I have ever tasted.

They do not list major food allergy ingredients in the menu. My waiter didn’t ask if anyone had any allergies - that being said, we ordered the hot and sour soup not knowing it had shrimp in it. I have shellfish allergies - I’ve already had two sips of the soup when I realized it had shrimp in it. The waiter was very defensive about the whole thing, essentially blaming on us for not telling the allergies. Then the manager came and blamed on us again for not checking the allergy when we made a reservation (actually the hotel made the reservation). Not acceptable at all. Then I took my daughter to the bathroom there - it was disgusting. Someone had a very explosive diarrhea and the restaurant didn’t clean it. I know one of the waitresses used the particular bathroom because I saw her leaving. But she didn’t tell us it was that disgusting. Not to mention she didn’t clean it. Never coming back. Awful experience.

I recently visited the China Tang Restaurant at The Dorchester to celebrate my 21st birthday with my family. As someone who deeply enjoys this cuisine, my anticipation was high, and I was genuinely excited for the experience. Indeed, the evening was enjoyable, especially with the company of my loved ones. However, I found the pricing to be a bit steep, particularly when considering the quality of the dishes we were served. While the food was satisfactory, it didn't fully meet the expectations one might have for a venue as renowned as The Dorchester. Having visited this restaurant on numerous occasions in the past, it's with respect that we share our observation of a noticeable decline in quality over our recent visits.

Busy and lovely restaurant on London’s Park Lane. Food is still good there and quality is mostly preserved. Service became good after making a point that we were not getting the service we’d expect at such a restaurant. While the waiter raised his voice at me while I was speaking to the manager who was very defensive and argumentative, I felt that the waiter needed more help on his section but that’s not up to me to decide. Found it very funny when the manager asked me “is it your first time here? What do you mean we usually get a better service?”… there is always a first time I guess…

Normally not a big fan of oriental food however, this place was exceptional. Valet parking which is great considering you're in Central. The hotel is as beautiful and prestige as you can find. Service all round was excellent. Everything is quite expensive as can be expected but you probably get your worth to be fair. For our party of 3 we ordered the stir fried beef which was tender, flavoursome, juicy chunks of meat 10 out of 10! The crispy shredded beef which was tasty sweet crispy pieces but did not taste like beef at all and was a bit tough to chew at time 4/10. Szechuan chilli lamb cutlets had a strange flavour, not really chilli at all but had an odd zing left on my tongue after eating 1, not as tender as I'd hoped for, they really wasn't that pleasant at all and considering they charge nearly 50pound for for 5 cutlets 1/10. Sweet and sour king prawns were super flavourful, tangy, sweet and sticky sauce, tasty large prawns and a fairly generous serving with peppers and pineapples worked very well 10/10. We also order 2 portions of stir-fried egg noodles with soya sauce and bean sprouts - good noodles, nothing majorly interesting and also a portion of egg fried rice, again was well prepared. This was plenty of food for 3 people, we had about half a portion of noodles remaining. Overall not enough to give 5 stars but still highly recommend I very much doubt you would find a better Chinese restaurant anywhere else.

Having experienced authentic Chinese cuisine during my trip to China, I'm quite selective when it comes to choosing Chinese restaurants. China Tang undoubtedly stands out as the best Chinese restaurant I've encountered in London. Everything from the food to the service and atmosphere deserves a perfect 10/10 rating. We tried the chicken noodles and beef sizzling dishes, both of which were incredibly delicious and authentically prepared. Their passion fruit mojito was also a delightful addition to the meal. The inclusion of halal chicken further enhances the experience for me.

First time here and was not overly impressed. Food was meh. Service was ok nothing to write home about. It was fairly busy with some tables free, there was this one lady who was rushed off her feet all evening. They had a lot of floor staff just couldn’t understand why she was the only one so busy. Entrees took forever to come out as did the main course. They don’t replace used cutlery after entrees which I thought was bizarre considering this was at The Dorchester. They also brought out the wrong main course and then had to wait a further ten minutes. Portions are generous in all honesty and tasty. Ordered dessert, this was served with no spoons for about ten minutes until I hailed down a waiter. This was all on a Wednesday evening can’t imagine what it’d be like on a busy Friday or Saturday night. Such a shame was expecting a lovely evening but was let down by these short falls. Should have gone to Novikov as it ticks all the boxes every time. I may give it another try in the future but not rushing back anytime soon.

I can’t fault this experience, food is wonderful - delectable and refined in palette, the decor is plush and tasteful and the service friendly and unobtrusive. Food so delicious we had multiple selections for two Dover sole, pork and chicken, prawns- and aopertisers, all delicious, served hot. We were given the best table in the house and everything was 10/10. A favourite for indulgent Chinese dining - duck aroma superb, pre dinner drinks in the bar lovely as were the clientele. Only downside was the lady on the cloakroom was not friendly or welcoming at all, getting our items at the end did seem much too much effort for her and she puffed and blowed vocally. Secondly I would have really adored Ruinart to be on the champagne menu, we enjoyed the Billecart and other varieties and an alternative but that is just my preference, we might capped in the Vesper bar as part of the Dorchester where the cocktails were exemplary, and Ruinart BdB was on offer by the bottle / glass. All in all a delectable evening of cuisine in sumptuous art deco surrounds. A fabulous eve well done to all at China tang xxx

We visited for my friends birthday yesterday and it was such a poor level of service. One lady running about alone whilst two ladies were on the door doing very little. We called ahead and asked if we could please have two tables together and they abruptly said no we are busy. They could only accommodate us in the bar. We then arrived and it was half empty and a guy came in and demanded a large table for his family to have cocktails before dinner. Which was immediately accommodated for which happened in front of us. Our family on this special occasion was scattered between two oddly shaped tables. It wasn’t welcoming and we waited for cutlery, forgotten drinks and the food was ‘ok’ some items were lukewarm. My friend is a regular customer at the hotel but it felt like we were a hassle for them and they couldn’t wait for us to leave. Not China Tangs fault but on entry to the Dorecester I found the doormen to be selective in their attention. If you pulled up in a Mercedes or Luxurious vehicle they charged over to open the doors. I walked in and got no opening of the door, no one showed me to the restaurant. This for me felt sooooo antiquated, small minded and quite frankly showed how bad the staff aware managed. Don’t judge people on wealth, brand names and cars. Most people are eco conscious or prefer not to have brand names sprayed all over them the management should look into this very narrow minded approach in this day and age to think all people with money need to shout about it. Most of my friend would catch the tube or walk, so perhaps train the staff to be courteous to all!! Honestly it was shocking. Plus my friend whose birthday it was has spent so much money at the Dorchester yet we were treated despicably. £700 down the drain.. We were with our 88 year old father and the doormen said we were not allowed to walk through the restaurant and had to take the stairs rather than the lift. No 5 star hotel should behave in such a way. We had a word with the doorman on the way out they were totally dismissive.

What on earth is this restaurant, it is fetishised for white people. Chinese food trying to be fine dining catering for the rich West. The traditional Lao Saa Bao was a lemon salted duck egg bao instead… who wants a lemon salted duck egg? I use lemon salt to descale my kettle. They have no chicken feet because only poor Chinese people eat that. Rich white folk don’t eat chicken feet. Food was overall good, but the price is no good. Massively overpriced for what you’re getting. Probably the nicest duck I’ve ever had though, but I wouldn’t go again, unless I end up marrying a rich white man with an Asian fetish.

We asked for a manager, but there was no apology, we were simply dismissed and made to feel uncomfortable when asking for a new fish to be cooked. In addition to that, the service wasn't even worth the one star, there was a lack of waiting staff, and we even saw a waiter drinking alcohol by the side of the bar!! This restaurant did not deserve our custom. It was inconsistent given we had been there twice in the previous week. On those occasions the service wasn't wonderful but the food was better.

Great place, great food, large dishes though! Be warned if you normally have two dishes!

As an oriental person myself, I'd say this place serves just average Chinese food but at triple or almost quadruple the cost of a normal Chinese meal elsewhere. If you want to spend loads on the deco, ambience, luxury and not having a waiter to rush you whilst you eat, sure, come to this place. But if you're here for the food, please go somewhere else because China Tang caters mostly for Westerners and non-Chinese people who don't know any better. There are better Chinese restaurants along Queensway / Bayswater. You will get better quality more authentic food and value for money.

Low lit setting at the Dorchester hotel, perfect for private dining experiences. We had the egg fried rice, the sweet and sour prawns as well as the crispy chicken. Absolute treat!

Great food. But expensive, of course. Good to try for the experience. Gets really loud though when it's full. But a good experience overall.

The remarkable quality of the food, especially the mouthwatering Peking duck, makes this worth a visit. Despite the service being just above average, the exceptional flavours and culinary expertise on display will undoubtedly leave you satisfied.

My family and I visited China Tang yesterday (16th May 2023). There was eight of us in total. The restaurant itself is very beautiful. Some may say it is slightly outdated but I love the decor. The tables are very close together though and there is no music playing in the back. The customer service was great! I noticed that the staff in the white uniform seemed more friendly and happy and talkative. At one point we did got served by a member of staff in all black uniform and unfortunately he never smiled and was pretty much moody. The food was mediocre. Unfortunately, a lot of the food was quite bland. Especially the Peking duck. I come from Hong Kong so the expectation was high but the duck tasted like a normal crispy aromatic duck. I understand that this restaurant does not use MSG and maybe that explains why a lot of the food was bland.

Good food, good cocktails, but ok service. I loved how they thought of bringing a small desert for my mother’s birthday.

China Tang never disappoints. They have a halal menu. Probably the best Peking Duck I have tried.

One of the best and most decent Cantonese restaurant in Greater London area. The dim sum here is gorgeous and unique with really authentic taste. Deep Fried Prawn Won Ton is obviously the best among them, without any sense of oily feel. Staff are really friendly and helpful.

Visited here a few weeks ago for dinner. Food was wonderful but if I'm honest service is a little rude. Perhaps a culture thing but we noted even from the cloakroom to the table, its not the warm friendly service you'd expect from a Dorchester venue. That being said, food was great and prices are reasonable.

The dim sum is so good, worth the price. I also enjoy their soup which they use very good broth to make.

Great customer service! Loved the aesthetic of the restaurant. The food was great but I think what I loved the most was the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Superb. I would 10/10 recommend to go there, coming back soon

Great experience, not sure I'd go too often, but it makes a brilliant and unusual treat. £48 for afternoon tea seems expensive but the food was superb. Not loads to eat, but enough. Large selection of teas, although I went for English Breakfast!
