China Palace in Plymouth

My fave Chinese to go to! Gutted they don’t deliver to Plympton but well worth the collection!

I recently had the pleasure of trying out Crownhill Chinese TakeAway China Palace, and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. From the moment I placed my order, the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. They took the time to answer all my questions and even made recommendations based on my preferences. The food itself was exceptional. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken and it was bursting with flavor. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection.

I’m always fair with reviews and like to give businesses an opportunity to rectify if something goes wrong. Having our own company too, we really appreciate our loyal customers they’re our bread and butter, repeat business is paramount, so we try to be loyal in return. Hence we’ve been using China palace for years, ordering most weeks spending approx £30 a time. So a good £1500 a year, the delivery drivers are lovely as come to know us, hence the 2 stars not 1. There’s been occasions where there’s been slight delays or missing items but been rectified quickly. However this weekend we were told our delivery could be up to 1.5 hrs but hopefully sooner, fair enough. However after that maximum time we called to be told not even cooked yet, after no guarantee of delivery time we cancelled and said we’d need to order elsewhere. I contacted in writing and whilst received an apology, no offer of goodwill or way of rectifying our experience for being a loyal and retain our custom, simply they do hope we find an alternative who will meet our expectations. I don’t think our expectations are high or we are unreasonable, we’ve always been accommodating with past mistakes. We just expect to be told a truthful time of delivery initially and then can make an informed decision if we wish to wait or not. Hope this will be taken constructively and feedback can help improve their service for the future for others.

Good well cooked Chinese food at this Crownhill take away. My only issue is that I was told that my food would be ready for collection at 7:30 but had to wait a further 20 minutes until it was ready.

I don’t usually leave reviews for takeaway but, I have used this Chinese for years and tonight, they were inundated with orders which resulted in a 30-40 minute wait for food. A couple of ‘Karens’ decided to pipe up about how ‘disgusting’ the wait was and how their food should be cooked before telephone orders as it’s cold in the shop 🙄 !! Despite the wait, the pressure they were under and the rude customers, the service was fantastic, the food was delicious and the staff were so apologetic about the wait. If you’re not prepared to wait for food to be freshly cooked, during a busy Saturday night, maybe you should consider going home and cooking for yourself rather than being rude to people who are doing their best and banging out the orders. Thank you guys for the great food, completely worth the wait.

We used this Chinese the other day.. It was excellent. UNFORTUNATELY WE USED AGAIN TONIGHT...VERY DISAPPOINTED...ALTHOUGH HOT....VERY VERY GREASY.

Went in and ordered took nearly an hour to receive my order but when I did it was worth the wait!

My friends and I order from this Chinese regularly. It is by far the best in Plymouth. Highly recommend.

We were over charged by £8. When I tried to discuss it with the manager/owner, he didn't agree. Ray was very rude, adrupt and patronising. If that's how he treats his customers how does he treat his staff?! Clearly shouldn't be in customer service, he has an appalling attitude! The food was quite tasteless but we ate is as we were very hungry. Won't be going there again!

Terrible experience, over priced sub standard food. The owner Ray is extremely arrogant, very poor customer service. Would never give them my custom again!☹️

After seeing a few bad reviews on here I am shocked and thought I would leave one myself. Since moving to eggbuckland this is been our new Chinese. Every time it has been amazing! Delivery and collection! The staff are helpful and friendly. The prawn balls are amazing, they never have any shell or yucky bits inside (like most other chineses do) the chips are always crunchy and soft in the middle, the curry sauce is sooo tasty along with the bbq, the kung po and crispy chilli chicken is to die for!. We had family over for a celerbration one evening totalling to £125, there were no mistakes, all the food was piping hot and the owner delivered himself. Looking forward to our next meal :)

After a few not so good meals from you we took a break... decided to try it again lastnight and can honestly say we won't be back! Although some of what we had was ok the beef dish we had was tasteless!!! Curry sauce was ok but the beef itself was disgusting. Tastes like nothing and actually didn't have the texture of beef. Really disappointed... after years of this Chinese being our go to one, we won't be returning as customers.

Very bland and flavourless pretty pricey for what it is delivery was told within the hour and it took nearly 2 hours awful experience total waste of money would not recommend

The owner is the most arrogant man I have ever had to deal with. This is the third time now that they have got our order wrong. He blames his staff in the kitchen rather than him overseeing them putting the correct food with the right order before it leaves the kitchen. If I received what I ordered in the first place then I wouldn't have to waste my time phoning to complain. I will definitely not be using this takeaway again and good luck to anyone who has to phone this patronising owner when you dont get what you ordered.

My partner made an order but mentioned that the order previously made, had what she thought was slugs in it. The owner phoned her back and said that he is giving a refund back and not providing the order she had just made. Very rude to my partner, which means no more custom from us.

Good quality take-away with polite friendly staff.

Have visited a number of times and food quality is consistent. I know what I like, and have never been disappointed here

Used to be one of the best Chinese take away in Plymouth, but had a disappointing take away from there a couple of months ago, and thought we would try it again will not be making that mistake again as it is now one of the worst chicken with beansprouts was rubbery and the chicken satay were so over cooked they were dry all the way through the egg fried rice didn't look like it had been fried, definitely not one of the best take aways I have had

Actually went to the wrong Chinese, thought we were ordering from the one in crownhill car park but what the hell we are here now. Phone ordering was easy and the lady was pleasant and helpful. The food was collected by us and on time so happy with that. However, the food was very bland. Chips were good but the rest was yet to be desired. Noodles were ok. But I don’t go to a Chinese for them to be good at cooking noodles and chips. I go there for them to be good at cooking all the flavoursome Chinese goodness. Which these don’t do unfortunately. And pricy.

Bland. Sauceless, Dry. maybe reheated as ready so fast. Really tasteless though maybe a bit soapy. So disappointed. Tired and busy so popped in on spec. Never again. Sad as really liked staff .

One of the worst Chinese takeaways I've ever had! So expensive and the food was awful.. so salty it overpowered everything, the chips had been recooked several times! The rice was claggy, just a nasty food experience all round..

The delivery was very quick. The food was really good apart from the chips being so salty. We had to put them in a colander and shake the salt off. Alittle salt is ok but this was excessive

The delivery time has become a joke! Waiting over 2 hours for the food. When placing the order they don't tell you till the end that's there's a wait. The reason I used to use this takeaway was because of the fast delivery time. It's has become a joke now.

Everytime it's perfectly cooked

Shocking. Ordered last weekend. Food was dry and had no life to it, chips were crunchy and rock hard. And curry sauce was lumpy. Poor customer service. And attitude. Which is a shame as usually the food is nice and enjoyable. Placing an order, to then put on hold whilst another order is being made and you can hear it. Very professional. Won't be going here again. Staff need to learn customer service skills& along with a skill set of manners and politeness. Eat here at your peral. Shocking.

I've been going here well over 20 years and it's slowly going down hill.and I'm getting it less and less.use to be every Saturday night.fancied it last night (Friday) and it was awfull.very dry.chicken balls looked awfull,dark brown and cracked so obviously been warmed up.one I did try was tasteless.never going back.such a shame.

Mostly we have great chinese/english food from here and it is our go to place. It is a very popular takeaway and if we telephone for a delivery the drivers are always very pleasant. The staff are very busy and very efficient.

I would have given 4.5 stars if I could. We have the munchie box and chicken satay skewers. Both were amazing. My only negative would be there should be 2 or 4 chicken balls not 3, dislike the uneven number, also the chicken ball batter was a tiny bit under done for my liking. Other than that thoroughly enjoyed it and will return 👌

Top food with some great uncommon menu choices. Give their salt and pepper dishes a try, they are amazing and the crispy shredded chilli beef best I've had in Plymouth.

Used to come here regularly a few years ago and it was our favourite, but we stopped after it seemed china palace changed something about their chicken in dishes - thought we would try it again as we have been struggling to find a Chinese takeaway we liked as much for ages. We are so happy to find that China palace seem back on track and the dishes were delicious. We are obsessed with your kung po chicken and will definitely be making china palace our regular favourite Chinese again!

Great take away and very friendly staff.

Food is always tasty and hot. The staff and delivery people are always polite. Always had my food on time if not early....a great Chinese i would recommend.

We have had out takeaways here for 15 plus. Absolutely diabolical service this evening. Not only did the girl mess up our order it was very late and almost cold. You used to be the best Chinese takeaway but I think you should look at the staff who take the orders as they are hard of hearing as they miss a main part of the meal and tried to fob me off. Gutted. Unfortunately I will reconsider my takeaway. I'm sure my money will be welcomed else where.

Portions were good but food quality was low, sticky and clumpy rice and tough chicken balls

Perfect menu and fantastic dishes, also I was lucky to find the most succulent duck I have ever tasted! Great service and magnificent food I cannot recommend more highly.

Had my 1st Chinese after the start of lockdown... and it didnt disappoint.. Munchie Box well worth the £8 & the Special Curry with a mushroom fried rice still as good as ever .. worth the travel from city centre.. see you next week guys.

I purchased on Wednesday 6th May Sweet and sour chicken balls with curry sauce Chicken fried rice Chicken in black bean sauce with peppers Crispy chilli beef Fried soft noodles Prawn crackers (free) Everything was perfect and received hot and within time takeaway stated, best Chinese I’ve had in a long time! Definitely use again and 100% recommend this Chinese takeaway! 👌🏼

For £2.20 the chips are the best ever and enough to feed 4 adults

I recently bought a meal from China Palace - and have to say I was truly appalled. Firstly, as I was dining alone, I only wanted Four Seasons Special Fried Rice and a Curry sauce. However, I was told if I wanted to use my debit card then I had to spend over £15.00. I specifically told the gentleman on the phone that I wouldn’t be able to eat it if any of the meat was fatty. However, he absolutely assured me in no uncertain terms that it would be lean with no fat whatsoever. My meal turned up barely warm. The ham in the rice was disgusting, cheap fatty ham from a tin, and the prawns were frozen, watery and bland. The pork on top was nothing but fat and gristle and the chicken breast had been microwaved to the point that it was so tough that I could hardly bite into it. The whole meal was inedible and one of the worst Chinese takeaways I’ve ever had. I strongly suggest that you done waste your money here and go elsewhere.

I have never left Chinese food on my plate before......ever!!! The food arrived late and luke warm, both of which I could've overlooked if the food wasn't bland and tasteless! I thought Kung po chicken and Singapore noodles would've had a decent kick to it, as it has done from other takeaways I'd usually go to, but sadly this wasn't the case. The veg in the Kung po chicken was obviously frozen and totally lacking in flavour which added nothing to the tasteless chicken. I can't even be bothered to whinge about the mixed hors d'oeuvres as I'm beginning to bore myself as much as this pitiful meal bored my tastebuds. I will now have to make some dull sandwiches for work tomorrow instead of taking in delicious leftovers, because the remains of a meal that I paid over £25 for are now outside being sneered at by seagulls that I've seen eat anything, even other seagulls!!! Do yourself a favour, if you fancy a take out on a Tuesday when all the other Chinese take always are closed then get a pizza or Indian or anything else or just wait another evening, but do not waste your money on something that you could get from farm foods for a fraction of the price, that's right I'm actually recommending farmfoods over supposedly freshly made authentic Chinese cuisine, if that doesn't tell you just how bad this food is then nothing will!

Last minute decision to get a Chinese. Found telephone from their website with the menu in PDF. Always a good selection. Love the Kung Po King Prawns. Ordered 4 mains with 2 fried rice combos- £35ish Reasonable quality but they were busy and found parking difficult. 15 minutes late on the telephone collection time. Little could be done given New Years evening and number of customers. Still better than the two in Ivybridge and worth the 10 mile round trip. Staff were pleasant.

One of the better takeaways in the Plymouth area. I travel from outside of Plymouth, it's worth it. Service is quick and the do deliver in the Plymouth area. Not easy to park if you drive to it as very limited street parking.

Visited for a quick dinner as hard day at work. Did not know what to expect, as not used them before. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great choice, as I am vegetarian. Not always the case in a lot of take aways. The service was 1st class and my food was cooked and presented to me both fast, piping hot and more importantly tasty. Definitely recommend this place and will use again. Great value for money

The food is exceptional and prices are great very friendly staff. They will explain what is in the food if you ask. I would definitely recommend this takeaway to everyone.

First time in years I've used this Chinese, and quick delivery just less than 1.5 miles down the road I thought happy days, pity I had to use my microwave to warm it all up, looked good and tasted ok but colder than a ice cube ..
