The food is excellent, a good wide choice, but some common choices not present (eg, chow mein). Service was attentive, polite, and good. The abvience of the main room feels a little stark and bare, the bar room is better.

We have travelled up from Portsmouth to stay for the night before heading to safari tomorrow , and we’re recommended here and it did not disappoint the food was fresh and amazing , the spring rolls were absolutely fantastic!! All tasted so fresh and literally amazing highly recommend and the staff were really friendly and chatty !!

Quiet lunch for my sons birthday. Not a lot of people but service and food up to the usual standard, hot fresh and tasty.

We called ahead of booking due to my allergy to peanuts and almonds. We were assured this could be catered for and would be safe to eat. Upon ordering I again advised of my allergy, the server advised I couldn't have anything that needed frying due to them frying peanuts in the same oil, so the cross contamination is insane. The server even asked me if "a little bit if peanuts" would be okay, which I very quickly shut down and stressed the severity of my allergy. They have no allergy menu or training by the looks of it. They should not be advising people with nut allergies that it is safe to eat there, when you are basically restricted to the English menu... when you wanted Chinese. Other than that the food was nice and the severs were friendly and efficient, however I won't be wasting my money here again.

Ordered for collection. Have had takeaways from here for 9 years. Exactly the same order every time. Today we came home to find one of the main dishes wrong so I called the restaurant (as a loyal customer) hoping to drive back to the restaurant to correct this. Instead I was told to ‘order the right thing next time’ and that ‘they read back every order so you must have ordered incorrectly’. China lodge has 100% lost our business from this brief conversation. Work on your customer service and admit when you’re wrong ! ✌️

Been going here for a few years now, price is on the higher side but I dont mind paying it if it means quality food. We ordered on Saturday & the chips were at least one day old, they had that cardboard after taste when chips are refried. The Chicken in the mains is now similar to that dry chicken slice you get from a Petrol station in the packet, I dont know if they have a new owner or Chef but we were all really disappointed with our food.

Everytime I come the foods amazing Best Chinese around by far, they also do takeaway aswell.. Slightly more money than the average Chinese, but the portions are huge and service is amazing too.

Many times have I tried to ring for a TAKEAWAY and every time it's engaged. I actually timed the amount of time it was engaged up to 45 minutes. I then decided to go down to the restaurant to order. I found out that the phone was taken off the hook and had the tone protesting tone as it was that loud and seen the phone myself... Seriously what kind of restaurant takes the phone off the hook... Unbelievable 😏😏

Not the cheapest food around but absolutely brilliant. We requested a change to the menu and it wasn't a problem. They were attentive, polite and helpful. Would recommend. Price maybe an issue but I would save up and go again.

Having traveled from Manchester with my family we treated my granddaughter for her birthday who lives here. What really friendly helpful staff nothing was too much trouble and the food all 5 of us really enjoyed it not one complaint I’d definitely recommend it. Lovely and clean great food. We will be back when we are in the area.

Can't fault it just wish that they did deliver

Not sure what all the fuss is about? It’s not the best Chinese restaurant by a long way. All the food we had was very basic. The starters were all very dry and the mains were nothing special. A bit annoying how packed the place was with people waiting for takeout. The “eat in” customers were left waiting for ages to be served their food though the staff did apologise for the wait. Don’t think I’d go back.

Loved it no more to say if you're ever in the area and want a Chinese meal, then don't go no further than here, was squeezed in at 5:30 pm, and it was quiet left at 6:45 pm and it was heaving plus 50 + takeaways going out, food was great, time to relax between courses, atmosphere great not rushed at all Service was great too. We went as a big group of 7 for a birthday. There were no labelled vegan options on the menu but from asking the (really helpful) waitress, I was able to select the seaweed salad (which was a little too salty for me personally), the lettuce parcels and a vegetable dish with boiled rice.

Great meal and great atmosphere. Partner and I shared the szechuan set menu and it was a great mix of foods. The service was fantastic and all the staff were very friendly. Highly recommend the set menus for those who aren't sure what to choose or want to try something new. Great value for so much food.

Best Chinese in kiddy, hands down. Never had better duck… it’s delicious. Love the salt and pepper dishes, and the staff are very friendly. The beer was served ice cold also. 10/10, it’s our new regular both for dine in and take out.

The food is so beautiful and rather filling too. We went for the lunchtime deal (2 courses for £15). Really tasty, very well presented and great service. Please note that they will charge a service charge too so be prepared to pay a little extra.

Very disappointed. Specifically ordered food to be without certain foods due to preferences from one person and an intolerance for the other. Starters were fantastic, but it all went wrong with the mains. Ordered a curry no veg, arrived with veg, sent back. Came out with peas, sent back only to come back out very quickly. When asked if the peas were just fished out, the waitress said YES!! Second main was ordered with no mushrooms, whilst no mushrooms were on the plate it had clearly been cooked in mushroom water based on the taste and after affects. Staff were unapologetic, unattentive, and still charged us full price even though we were obviously dissatisfied and mentioned the issues. Will not return.

What an awful place. The food is very expensive compared to other Chinese restaurants, and a service charge is automatically added to the price whether you like it or not. The staff there are very rude and added food and drinks to our bill which we hadn't ordered nor had. When we asked for them to be removed the attitude of the staff was terrible - they were adamant we had ordered them. To add to the night we were all ill with sickness and diarrhea early the following morning - obviously from the meal the night before. Dreadful place.

Awful place. I can barely believe the 5 star reviews on here. We recently dined there on an evening. The food was far from appetising, the staff are unpleasant, the prices are very expensive and they rip you off with a mandatory service charge which is automatically added to the bill. To add to this, they tried to charge us for food and drinks that we had not ordered or received. When we raised this with the staff, their attitude was dreadful. To top-off the whole awful night, we ended up with sickness and diarrhea early the following morning. DO NOT GO TO CHINA LODGE.

We were here to celebrate a friends birthday...food was lovely..but was made to feel we were in the way...waiters were clearing plates before everyone had finished there meals. There was someone constantly hovering over the table. Made you feel very uncomfortable. Out for a nice relaxing evening...turned out to be far from that.

revolting. When i first came to this place it was the best!! and then after a while i had gone to it about two weeks ago and it has really gone down hill i got food poisoning and the food comes out in like two minutes which is so quick not good way! and i was sick everywhere and felt dizzy so i don’t know what they did to my food but i am so disappointed and never going back

Have you ever tasted onions in a curry that tasted like guitar plectrums might taste? Sloppy thin curry sauce Virtually meatless chow mein Tasteless chips £4.50? Nice place but wouldnt recommend.

Staff were very rude! Wasn’t happy when we asked to take the service charge off. Be mindful of this everyone! They automatically add a service charge onto your bill so don’t be afraid to ask them to take it off. We definitely asked them to take it off after our experience

Went for birthday meal really enjoyed

Visited with friends recently and we were disappointed with the food which was not as good as last times we have been to this restaurant. We arrived at 8.30 pm, and were rushed by hostile staff to order, eat and finish. Not a relaxing experience, until we asked for another round of drinks at 10.00pm and were flatly refused and were told that two drinks each was enough for anyone!! Bill brought to us without our asking. We were out of restaurant less than two hours after arriving. We were last to leave at 10.15 on a Saturday night. Will not return.

Was looking forward to a lunchtime treat but when arrived 1.25 told it was shut although they advertise 12 till 2pm. If they have a time for last orders perhaps they need to advertise it. They were not even very polite. Very disappointed as always had good food and service before

Went to China Lodge yesterday 28th for a takeaway for 6. When I got home there was one meal missing which happened to be mine. It was too far away to go back so I had to make do with small amounts from the other meals. Although the food was generally good, the evening was spoiled by this. The bill was c£94 so this was most disappointing.

Really good food, I had red Thai curry and it was pretty hot but really tasty.

Lovely food, and the set meal that we had was good value at £27.50 per person. There was plenty of food & I was able to swap out one of the prawn dishes for something else. The beer is a little bit pricey at nearly £6 per pint, but that didn’t spoil anything for us.

Ordered a takeaway. Food was less than average. Beef curry was really watery, and the meat seemed soft/soggy like it was undercooked. The chicken in the chicken balls was hard and chewy, like it was reheated from the previous shift. It was all shrivelled up inside the batter. The rice was just one big clump of mush. Finally, it was way overpriced for the quality of the food received. I wasn't going to leave a review, had it not been for the fact I was quite ill the next day. I'll be avoiding this place in the future. To sum it up in one word, horrific.

Disappointing. Squid very chewy Sizzling lamb tasted very much like Heinz’s tomato sauce, stated chillies x 2 no hint of chillies. No interaction when paying for the meal at the table and seeing the amount left to find out if all was OK. Seems the set meals were being served all around!

China lodge is “the best” the food is stunning. Fresh and delicious! We have weekly food here. Sometimes twice a week it’s incredible! The quality is amazing! You pay for what you get :D thankyou.

Greeting was good, service was ok but the food was not. My husband had the very expensive sizzling steak which was ok but the duck in plum sauce was awful, the duck was tough and way overcooked and dry with only raw onion accompany it, the sauce was dried up and congealed. I could not eat it, they offered to give me another dish, I chose sweet and sour chicken which arrived super quick, again the chicken was hard and I could not chew it, the sauce was again sticky and very little of it, it looked unattractive and was impossible to eat. I was very disappointed as I was looking forward to this meal. The prices are extremely expensive and do not reflect the quality.

Having moved away in 2020 it had always been an ambition to visit again when we were back in the area, last night was that night. Booked in at 6.30pm, restaurant was busy and the takeaway phone never stopped, which tells its own story. Soft shell crab and squid to start, sea bass for the main, delightful, flawless, as good as ever. Looked after by Mr Chang and the superb staff, my god I miss The China Lodge. Until next time.

The place and service excellent.... the good pretty average. We had set meal for 5 @ 27 each. Starters were good, though hubby said the ribs were fatty. He is a rib expert. The mains were disappointing. Crispy shredded beef was not crispy, well a few were. I think it had sat in the sauce so went chewy. The chicken also not fresh it had a hard shell almost like it had been fried before going into the sauce..... but not fresh fried...... old fried, hence the chewy and stringy texture ... most unpleasant.... the sauces ask seamed similar tasting. Only good one was the prawn dish. Plump juicy with a light tasty sauce.

Good food! We buy take away regularly like at least few times per week there. Do recommend it if you like Chinese food

We've come to this restaurant a few times now and so far every visit has been a pleasant one. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and the food never takes long to prepare. We always have a set meal which comes out freshly prepared and tastes amazing! There's plenty there for the amount we pay and if ever we have any left over, the staff always allow us to pack any remainders into containers to take home. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and will look forward to visiting again soon! Thank you!

i would not go back to this chinese, the chicken was chewy and the food overall was very dry. food took ages to come out which it had probably been sat there and that’s why it was so chewy and dry :). i will not be returning here!!

Chips were awful. Salt & pepper chicken hard and chewy. I’m not one to complain but it all looked like yesterdays food apart from nice egg fried rice and prawn crackers. On a previous trip to the UK I had had take away from the resturant and it was good so this time we decide to eat in. The resturant is very nice and clean, the service was excellent. I ordered Szechuan Shredded Crispy Chilli Beef which arrived too quickly. It implies the dish was pre-prepared and heated up. The sauce tasted more like sweet and sour and out of a jar. the beef was more like eating string. I couldn’t go past having banana filters for dessert. It was a good serve and it didn’t disappoint, it was yum. The resturant automatically adds a Service Charge. This added nearly £5 to the bill. I don’t believe any resturant should add a service charge. I will leave a tip if the service and food is above good and I determine the amount not the resturant.

Mediocre food, always had great visits before. Last twice we’ve booked we’ve been sat in the bar area not the restaurant. Service isn’t what it was before- slower, albeit still friendly. Wrong main came out but was t corrected. £93 for 3 of us on...

Clean and smart restaurant. Staff very friendly and professional. Food served hot, plentiful and was delicious. Menu was varied with many choices. Can recommend this restaurant and we will be returning. It was my birthday meal and I was very impressed.

First of all the food is amazing, but my frustration is the lack on answering the phone to order a takeaway, phoned constantly for 35 minutes, no answer... Please try and get this sorted out, as I said the food is beautiful.

We had a group of 30 people attend for dinner the night before our wedding and China lodge were amazing! The food came out together and it was all super tasty! They made sure that we were well looked after and we cannot thank them...

Great local Chinese restaurant. We had the set menu for two (S3) which you can customise if you want. Plenty of quality food at reasonable prices. Very nice staff, excellent service.

We frequent this restaurant regularly but were shocked on our latest visit, when paying, to find that our usual bill of £56 had staggeringly increased up to almost £70. Not only had they significantly increased the price of food and a bottle of wine they...

Went with a friend and ordered black bean curry, rice was dry and curry was swarming with oil, absolutely vile. Never again will I book there. Group of men being loud but the staff were not abrupt enough to them to quieten down, as staff...

Really, really disappointed. This used to be one of our favourite places. 11 of us dined in. Service seemed to start quite well when our orders were taken, but soon changed. Went through our orders with the table, but when they arrived, we had 2 more mains than we asked for. Reluctantly they were taken back, but when the bill came out they were on there. We challenged this, but ending up in an argument with waitress strongfully adement we ordered them, despite them going back and nobody eating them! We 100% didn't order these. The food was OK, but not as good as usual. 3 of us had a set menu, including duck pancakes, but only had 4 pancakes in total, 3 chicken currys had almost no chicken in them at all (all mushroom), and only 3 prawns in the other shared starter dish, so one prawn each! The bill came to over £390, including nearly £30 service charge and the 2 extra chicken currys we didn't have. We're not normally ones to make a fuss, and normally leave a tip even for average service, but we insisted the meals we didn't have be taken off along with the service charge.

China lodge isn’t a new place to us, we are regular customers and usually we are never short of a 5 star review. We have recommended every friend and family member we have to this restaurant but after tonight we will NEVER return!!! 9 of us came to dine tonight however 2 of us received our starters before the rest of the group and actually finished them before anyone else’s came out. We simply requested that our main meals all came out together but were greeted by the rudest waitress I have ever encountered. I don’t think asking for all of our food to come at the same time is a huge request for a restaurant do you? She then stropped off to the bar and was clearly talking about us to the other waitresses as they were talking and pointing at our table. We carried on with our night but were then approached by management who asked us to leave due to our “threat” to not pay our bill!!?? This waitress had obviously gone over and made up a complete lie! As I said we are regular customers who use China Lodge on a weekly basis, we also have a newborn baby with us - don’t think it would be easy to do a runner with a newborn in tow!! The manager apologised for accusing us but the damage had already been done and we left with no plans of returning.

The overall service was appalling, the Waitress was so rude and unhelpful, our starters came out 20 mins apart so we were not eating together, we questioned this and simply ask to eat at same time but got nothing but excuses and rude staff comments....

The food is great. I'm from NYC and I've been homesick for good Chinese food. The food here met my standards compared to other Chinese spots in this town. I will change my review to 5 stars once they start delivery. There's really no excuse with all the delivery apps available and the times we live in now 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️ please consider!
