China Inn in St Edmundsbury

My son walked in and asked for 1 egg fried rice and 1 mushroom fried rice. He was told there was a minimum spend of £15 I have never heard of a minimum spend when you go in to a takeaway and wait for your order. Fully understand for delivery but not when you go in and order. The cost was £11, it’s not as though he asked for a bag of prawn crackers at a couple of quid. Imagine if every shop had a minimum spend!! Needless to say Benny’s chip shop was happy to take his money. Won’t go back there out of principle

Good food, terrible timing - I have been going here for years, but recently the wait times have been nothing short of abysmal. For the last few visits I have called ahead , and arrived at the specified time only to wait another 45+ minutes to get my order. Today, there were 3 ore more customers who had waited over an hour. The galling part was that 2 walk in orders were taken and served (sizeable orders) whilst I was waiting. When I asked for an update it would be another 20 minutes. This is such a shame as the food is good, but the kitchen is unable organise themselves. They don’t start cooking the food until after you arrive and even then, when pressed. I never did get my order.

Received discount code but couldn’t use it as they were too busy to deliver. What is the point in letting down loyal customers!

Ordered at 18.20, phoned to chase up on it received text saying was cooking it turned up at 21.02 was lukewarm and tasteless very disappointed!!!!!!

Placed an order at about 5pm on a Saturday night, and it took over two hours for the food to arrive. I had to phone to chase it, and got a call centre that played a recorded message saying “Your voice is valuable” then immediately cut me off (option 2). The food itself was nice, the delivery man was friendly, and we all enjoyed it. But the two hour wait and the call centre means I don’t think I’ll order again soon.

The food was ok but wasn’t worth the 3.5 hour wait for delivery!!! Terrible service, won’t be ordering from them again!!

We have always enjoyed the food here but tonight was sooo disappointing. Every dish was tasteless. I wonder if there is a new chef.

This is the best Takeaway Chinese restaurant in Haverhill. Highly recommended. Food and service is always great.

You call a local haverhill number assuming you are speaking to the shop to make your order, when your order doesn't arrive you learn you have actually gone through to a call center in Lincolnshire and the person who has taken your order has no way of contacting the shop and sorting out the issues. What a ridiculous system which clearly doesn't work. I have now waited over an hour and 40 minutes for my food with no way of accessing the shop and the lady in the call centre was useless and couldn't do anything. I would strongly suggest no one uses this system as it is ridiculous that you are ordering from a small Chinese shop in haverhill but your order is taken by an un trained useless call handler in Lincolnshire who clearly has no idea how to do their job. Very disappointed and won't ever buy from or eat in this Chinese again due to the ridiculous system, unhelpful amd clearly un trained staff.

Waited two and a half hours for our food, ordered 5:30 and recieved at 8:10, was an okay Chinese, would’ve rated much higher if delivery time was even slightly within a normal time slot

Tried a few Chinese restaurants in Haverhill and this is by far the best. Food is fresh, piping hot and portions generous. Staff are friendly and delivery is usually very quick. Wouldn’t order from anywhere else!

Had sweet and sour chicken and egg fried rice. Was ill after 20 mins after eating was very sick. Never will go back there. You take a chance. Even my friend send back their food.

We are regulars at the China Inn & never had anything less than really good food & service. Like the fact that even though though the menu is described as buffet food is actually cooked when ordered. We'll keep going back!

Not for the first time China Inn has failed to deliver in the timescale given and, worse, didn't feel it necessary to notify me. I called to chase well after the 1 hr 15 given to be told it would be another half an hour. When I complained, the manager felt it acceptable to talk over me, argue, and generally accept no responsibly for their piddling poor service.

Based on the takeaways we have had delivered this is a pretty good Chinese. I have only given it 3 stars as the delivery time is usually between 1hr and 1.5hrs which is an exceptionally long time, this applies to any night that I have ordered. Several of the family give this 4 Stars.

We have never had a problem with China inn the food we had in the past been good but last night I opened a tub of special fried noodles and put them on the plates took 1 taste they were off I smelled them omg !!!! Straight in the bin THEY SMELLED AND TASTED SO RANCID THERES CHICKEN BEEF PORK AND PRAWNS IN THEM BE CAREFUL!! PUT ME OFF CHINESE FOOD FOR LIFE !!

Food arrived early (only good thing about this place)! However, one dish had no taste and was just dried up pork (not the BBQ Honey Pork I had ordered). Called China Inn to be told they would “give me a free one” on my next order. Told them I wanted a refund as I wanted to eat the food now, not next time I ordered (IF I used them again)! Heard them discussing this whilst I was on the phone and overheard their staff saying I was lying to just get free food. Briefly told I would receive a refund then was hung up on. Don’t hold out much hope of receiving my money back.

I come back to the China inn regularly, the staff are friendly the food it’s always so fresh and delicious

My wife and I stayed in Haverhill last week to visit family in neighbouring villages. On the first evening eight of us met up for a meal at the China Inn. We had the all you can eat buffet which is ordered from the menu and can be re ordered as much as you want. The service and food was excellent and service was as well. The range of dishes available was extensive with something for everyone. We enjoyed it very much and my wife and I returned two nights later before travelling home the next day.Dont be put off by the exterior which is a little dowdy looking, interior isn't particularly posh either but comfortable and friendly.

We use China inn weekly and the food is always great, we can not fault it! Delivery is always quick and food arrives nice and hot! Would always recommend! Def worth a try if you haven’t eaten from here before!

Used them several times for both home delivery and takeway. Not too bad. After trying few times settled on few dishes.

Popped in mid week, place was empty apart from the owners children on laptops on opposite table and just mingling about. Food ok and quick went for eat as much as you want. Staff good and great with our child.

Ordered pad Thai from here & it was quite honestly disgusting... The noodles were like jelly & all stuck together into a big lump. And it didn't even taste of anything! Complained but they didn't seem to care. Very poor service.

This has been our favourite chinese for a few years. Possibly not as cheap as some other chinese's but the quality of the ingredients makes this one the tastiest in our opinion.

Had a great family meal on Friday. 7 of us. Food delicious. We had buffet menu which was excellent. Lots of choices & offered extra portions. Such lovely friendly helpful staff. Definitely recommend to friends & family.

Very unhappy. Placed an order at 7pm. Rang to chase at 8pm and was told order was out for delivery. ( we live 5 minutes away. ) rang again at 8.25pm to see where order is and was told it hasn’t left yet and would be another 15 minutes. Yet to turn up. And I prepaid for the food so couldn’t cancel! Will stick to Fortuna next time. Hungry and annoyed.

My husband and I struggled to find a good Chinese close by until we decided to give the China Inn a try. We have never had a bad meal from here and will continue to use. Prices a little on the high side but we have yet to find a better Chinese in the Haverhill area.

A nice well decorated ,clean restaurant with excellent and helpful staff the food was good, hot and we did not have to wait. And a very reasonable cast.

Todos teníamos entradas, platos principales, tortitas de pato, segundo y luego budín principales. Buen servicio, comida sabrosa no se podía pedir más.

Good points..Lovely staff, great food and plenty of choice. Bad points Restaurant area needs decorating, change the nets at the windows and put some heating in. looks very tired and out of date...which is a shame, as does not reflect the good food and service

This continues to be consistently good. The food is delicious and always arrives within time. Portions are generous, staff helpful and food arrives hot. No complaints. Well done China Inn.

My partner has lived in the area for 12 years and told me there wasn't a decent Chinese in Haverhill, I decided there must be, so with trepidation we went to the China Inn. We were the only ones seated - but the takeaways were non stop, however within half an hour the place had filled up. The food was gorgeous, they didn't mind if you asked for seconds, some other diners were asking for thirds! the duck and main courses were also delicious with so much choice. The thing I liked was they weren't constantly forcing drinks on you. The most outstanding things about this place was it was clean, efficient service, hot tasty food and some of the most courteous staff I have ever encountered anywhere. We will be back and will be telling everyone about this place.

Ordered delivery and order taken efficiently....advised it would be an hour but delivered by exceptionally polite young lady in 40 minutes. Food all very tasty too. Thanks China Inn

I have always had takeaway from here but sadly something has changed. The food I had Saturday was not the best, chicken balls were black and so crispy couldn't see the chicken the sweet&sour sauce tasted of fresh ginger. Not nice. Will try somewhere else in future

Went out Easter Monday for dinner this is a lovely place to eat, the staff are friendly and attentive. We had the all you can eat opinion plenty of choice and very well cooked at a reasonable price what more o you want.

We came here from work for dinner and it was great. The value of 16.99 for all you can eat is excellent. There was five of us and we ordered so so much food. They were happy to bring as much as we liked as long as we finished what we ordered. Excellent service. Drinks flowed :)

Starters were quite nice. I ordered a red wine from menu but was given a small bottle of merlot. Only good thing was the price. Well the rest of the meal was not good. Duck was not fresh. Pancake rolls not cooked. Next course, noodles only tasted of oil, chicken not cooked enough so would not even go there. Service was really not worth mentioning as did not have any worth noting. I had to ask for chop sticks twice and I asked for rice bowl and ended up with desert bowl. Next day I spent some several times debating my visit whilst sitting on throne!

Have been here a 2 times now, for the money it is ok. Both times we have had the all you can eat. The soft drinks are flat but the food is good. The lay out of the venue is dated and sleepy. We will be going back again and it's not as bad as some of the reviews have made out. Do give it a try

Just had the most disgusting takeway from here! It was so greasy i had to mop the rice with kitchen towel. The food was tasteless and now in the bin! When we rang to complain i could hear the manager telling us if we didnt f'ing well like it we know what we can do! Great customer service lmao (not! )We have been regulars of china inn for 4 yrs... until today. Worst £24 pounds i have spentso if you like greasy tasteless chinese combined with rubbish customer service then china inn's the place!

The China Inn used to be my preferred local Chinese takeaway but it seems the service has gone downhill. I ordered a takeaway and was told it would take 45 mins to 1 hour to be delivered. When I phoned up to check what was going on I was told "it's on its way" but the food still didn't turn up for at least another 20 minutes after that (I only live a 5 minute drive from them). The prices have gone up quite a lot recently (an average order for two people used to cost about £15 but now costs over £20!). The food was really good but not worth the 1.5 hour wait! I was offered a measly 10% off my next order - won't be going back.Summary:Good food but poor service and no longer good value for money.

We regularly order from china inn and have little to no problems at all with them. On a rare occasion me and my husband decided to go out for a meal and chose china inn due to us both liking this establishment. We were very disappointed! We had to wait 10 mins for a drinks order and waited 1 hr between each courses. The young chinese waiter was brilliant getting drinks if needed and always there if assistance was needed with a polite attitude. On the other hand the girl tending the bar/resturant was less of a delight..i signalled her to come over for a drinks order for her response to be a blank look on her face and then walk away, the place was not busy but she obviously had other plans. The food was not of the good quality that we usually get when we get a delievery..maybe we should stay in...at least the wait wouldnt habe been as long.

This place used to be the best in town for a Chinese takeaway and we didn't mind paying that bit extra for the quality. Unfortunately it has gone the way of the rest of the Chinese joints in the town with the dishes being bulked out with bean shoots and meat/fish quality and quantity noticeably in shorter supply. House special chow mein was a previous favourite but recent one purchased had 4 pieces of gristly beef, 3 slivers of chicken and just one prawn. Price increase though! No longer worth the extra. Shame

Your quintessential English Chinese restaurant / takeaway. I'm guessing the quality of the food at China Inn, compared to the many other establishments in Haverhill, depends on what you order. What we had was pretty good overall, but the best thing is the fact they offer free delivery for those who can't face having to leave the comfort of their sofa on a dark and dreary UK evening. The door-to-door service is really quick as well, at least it was on the night we used them. Prices are very good and I would use China Inn again.

We have now visited the China Inn on a few occasions. You have the option to order what you like or take an all you can eat menu @ £14.99 per adult. Children under a certain height are much cheaper. All the food is cooked to order allowing you to order as many as 5 dishes at a time. The service is friendly and efficient. The only downside to the restaurant is it has limited seating space. This is not a criticism just a shame as if they are busy it doesn't allow you to just turn up and get a table. Overall, the value for money is exemplary and I really hope other people visit and support this restaurant. Derren Stock Haverhill
