Never had a bad meal, my mum lives nearby. Great food and good fair price. Food always good quality and fair price. My wife also has allergies but no issues ever from here. Highly recommend.

This has been my go to for years, over plenty of other takeaways, I have never really had a bad meal from Hear. Would highly recommend

This is the only chinese takeaway i really go to so i have nothing to compare it to but let me say, if you don’t like or can’t have very greasy or salty (depends) don’t go but this is a takeaway and is usually a occasional thing, but as someone who LOVES oily food i love this so much foods always so good and you get large portions based on a 2 person order there’s always leftovers we put in the fridge 4 the next day, the food is so good and a pretty good price never had a bad experience it will be if like i said u dislike greasy food

Went to this restaurant today and ordered prawn chowmein, when we got home found out that the prawn chowmein contained chicken,pork and two prawns. As I can’t eat meat this food was inedible. Very disappointing!

Never read so many negative reports.. I think i will go elsewhere ! One question,,, How have they got 4 stars with so much appalling feedback ?

Ordered tonight 2 chicken currys 1 with egg fried rice one with special fried rice ...the currys were both so salty ..after the first taste we called the takeaway and they offered 1 chow mein to replace 2 ruined meals and refused to give us back our £26 we spent with them ...think twice no actually 3 times before ordering from here shame really was OK in the past 1 star generous on the plus side the delivery bloke is a nice fella 👍

Have just ordered a chicken curry was told it would take 45 minutes to be delivered waited over an hour then phoned them to find out what was happening with our order they told us it was on its way when it turned up it was all congealed and rice was stone cold so I phoned them to say I wasn’t happy with the order and they called me a liar really poor customer service will definitely not be ordering from them again you could have put this right but you decided not too great my chicken curry went in the bin what a waste of money and I’m still hungry cheese and ham sandwich it is then thanks guys for all you help

The worst Chinese I have ever had!! Never again will I get it. No one should ever order from there. Chewy, slimy and lumpy chicken. Convinced it’s been reheated. Oily food Absolutely vile!

Worst Chinese I have had in a long time. So salty could eat the spare ribs, crispy chilli beef not crispy, chewy and tasteless. Duck not crispy. Mushroom satay watery and tasteless. Beef curry beef, chewy. And all lukewarm.

First time ever, very disappointed with the meal, had lemon chicken which was very hard and dry, ordered a pancake roll, ended up with very greasy pork balls, taste was not nice, only ate the noodles.

Used to live nearby and had food regularly. Since moving out of delivery area use Rustington LittleHampton takeaways, all very good but not a patch on China Cottage. Husband passing through Goring, picked up meal and realise what we’ve been missing.. Food far superior,absolutely lovely. Please extend your delivery to Angmering that would be great.

My order at the China Cottage in Worthing included sweet and sour CHICKEN with express instructions "NO SHELL FISH CONTAMINATION" due to my wife having a shell fish allergy that could end in anaphylaxis. My wife bit into her "chicken balls" only to reveal this chicken was in fact a PRAWN - I called the China Cottage to complain, they had no compassion, and did not accept any responsibility at all only offering to send me some chicken balls this time. I would suggest this take-away should be avoided if you do not want a nasty surprise.

We come to China Cottage in Hiring Road/ Wallace Avenue on a regular basis and always find the food great, I personally find the chicken satay skewers need a touch more cooking but that's my preference.

Reading through reviews and seems to be the same story. We have used this place on and off for years only reason being food has always been good. Had an incident few months back where they delivered several wrong dishes, after informing them, they agreed to redeliver correct dishes. Waited for 50minutes and on arriving they then decided to take wrong dishes back even though we had began eating it,and had informed them on this but they insisted on taking dishes which led us to belive they would reuse food 🤢 Stopped using for few months. Began using again recently. Ordered for large family, we were told food would be delivered in 30minutes. Waited 60mintues until we contacted to be told it will be with us in 15minutes. Waited another 30minutes by which point we contacted and cancelled our ordered. The person on the phone hung up and when we called back to ask for a refund we were told to wait until the end of the night because they were too busy. We demanded money to which they hung up again. After another phonecall they agreed to refund but said would take an hour to refund to our card, as again they were busy. We were unable to reorder elsewhere due to this. Never received refund. Contacted shop next day in which we were passed around via different employees to then be hung up on again. Disgusting customer service. Very rude. We have now given these several chances and have never received refund and on top of all have continued to get poor customer service. Do not use these, unacceptable!!

Quality and quantity changed since the last I got delivery - 3 months ago! I ordered prawn Szechuan and sauce tasted very different, too sweet and some of the prawns weren't properly cleaned ( still had gut waste)! I can understand change in quantity, but quality shouldn't be messed with; they definitely changed the recipe/ingredients.

The food is so greasy within half hour of eating got the worse stomach ache!! Never again will I order from here.

So disappointed tonight. We have used China Cottage for years. Having been shielded indoors for 10 weeks, we thought we would treat ourselves. Oh dear, what has gone wrong. Noodles burnt, obviously reheated. Prawn and mushroom awful. Duck overcooked. Very poor meal. Come on China Cotrage, get back to what you were with all dishes served fresh.

One of the nicest Chinese's I've had in a while.

I used to religiously get my Chinese Friday meals here, I had to stop a while back due to a drastic change in food quality, everything was so oily and bland suddenly! I accidentally order recently, thinking I'd ordered from somewhere else, I was really disappointed!! Such a shame, lovely people, very quick delivery, just poor food now!

Absolutely superb food and great service. This is probably the best Chinese takeaway in Worthing if you want authentic Chinese food. Cant recommend highly enough.

Real shame as we have often ordered from this place and food has been good but several times we have received very rude customer service. Due to liking the food we have put up with the poor service, until tonight.... We placed an order and received duplicate of one dish and they missed another dish. We then rang to ask for missing dish, whilst being honest that we had received duplicate of one. They delivered missing dish and asked for duplicate dish to be returned, in which I had explained we had opened already. The delivery man replied ‘it doesn’t matter they have requested I collect it’. We have now been left concerned that they will reuse food for other customers. In our opinion it was their mistake therefore should not require food to be returned and just to ensure the customer receives what they ordered! It clearly doesn’t meet food hygiene standards, nor health and safety standards. Unfortunately this has deterred us enough not to use company again.

love this place well cool you can watch them cooking your meal while you wait or get delivery food is absolutely lovely some of our favorites sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style non nom special curry comes with egg fried rice chips or boiled rice nom nom nom beef green pepper in black bean sauce I would recommend everything on this menu always fresh and tasty also they do some great set menu deals

This has been our take away of choice for chinese for 4 or 5 years. I don't know what has happened but in August we had to wait for an hour and ten minutes when we were told 45 minutes and the Kung Po chilli chicken which I have had many times before was so chilli hot I could not eat it. Our latest order at the beginning of October took an hour and 40 minutes when we were told an hour. There was no apology on delivery The rice was almost cold but at least the Kung Po had gone back to being edible but was dry with no liquid and only half the amount of chicken I normally get. Sorry but we will have to find somewhere else.

Food delicious, never had a bad meal. Folk who deliver are always polite. Defenantly deserve five stare.

We have in the past enjoyed food and service from China Cottage This evening we ordered and th3 order arrived with items missing. We phoned them and were there the le missng items would be delivered on n 10 minutes. 10 minutes later nothing had arrived and we called again. Half an hour later phoned again and they were seriously obstructive and played dumb as to the problem. They did not even have the decency to acknowledge their error and reimburse I will not be using this takeaway again. Very sad. I thought that they were better than this. Clearly not. This is just a warning F

Enjoyed a meal for six people tonight....we opted to pick up our takeaway and ordered a variety of food. All my friends were very happy with their meals... I had the tofu with black bean sauce and cashew nuts. Very tasty. Would recommend this takeaway, which has an open kitchen for viewing while you wait.

For chinese food this is a good place to go, only take-away or delivered at your doorstep. Tasteful and a good price.

Had several takeaways from here. Decent quality. Have always picked up rather than delivery so can’t comment on that side of things. Seems professionally run and always ready on time. As I’ve previously mentioned, there seems to be a lack of quality Chinese restaurants in the Worthing area to choose from but this take away is above average in my opinion.

Ordered a take away and they got our order wrong so they gave us credit for the next time. We used them again as we had credit and they got our order wrong again, but wouldn’t do anything about it because they’d applied the credit from the last time! The food isn’t good enough to ignore the poor service.

I think some people are writing reviews for a different China Cottage as this is just a takeaway. There is nowhere to sit and eat so some reviews may be misleading. We have eaten from here for a while and whilst the food is fresh and tasty there are some issues. They don't display their hygiene rating and the kitchen looks dirty. They've had children taking orders, so by the time we have got home and discovered the wrong food, we haven't had the energy to complain. The last takeaway my husband felt ill and now refuses to eat there.

This is a great Chinese takeaway. Never had a bad meal and they are quick. I didn't give it five stars because it could really do with a make over. The place is a little tatty, and if it was your first visit it might put you off. I guess if you are getting it delivered then this is not a problem.

Needs a lick of paint but food is good

Popped in on my way home from work...had the veggie Singapore noodles and tofu in yellow bean sauce £9.10.Too much for me to eat so have saved half for tomorrow. I have used this takeaway several times and have never been disappointed.Always queues at the weekend so we can't all be wrong!Give it a try.

visted china cottage last night a little disappointed starter overdone the rest of the food nice, had a metal thing were food is placed on to keep warm but no heating underneath it. when I've been to other restaurant's we've had candles underneath it. When the bill arrived they knocked the overdone starter off .

I've read some not so good reviews about this takeaway and I thought as I've always had a good meal and easy experience ordering I should stand up for it

Poor quality food two dishes ruined by pineapple in everything both Satay and Plum dishes just tasted of pineapple.

I ordered food and was told 30 min... I then rang 45 min later to find out where my food was and they told me they wasn't coming now and they couldn't ring me back for some unknown reason to tell me that they wasn't coming. rude staff. AVOID.

Ordered a meal for two from Set Menu as advertised online. The price given at time of ordering by phone was different so after checking the menu we called back less than two minutes later to be told the menu online was out of date and the new price of an extra £4 would stand. When we suggested this was perhaps a bit unfair we were basically told 'tough' and cancelled our order. They refused to refund the card as cooking had started. This attitude changed when we pointed out they had told us 45min wait so that clearly was wrong. After some time of argument we have been told we can have our money. Customer service was terrible. Shame as the other reviews suggest we missed out. Not.

Oh dear, really not impressed I’m afraid. Alarm bells rang when the spare ribs were slung in with the chicken satay. It was a sign of things to come, as enough grease dripped off the chow mien to fix my squeaky bike wheel. Bland tasting and thoroughly unexciting food. Even the fortune cookie advised to eat elsewhere in the future.

Really poor service and ordering didn't even get through first hurdle. Finally got through on phone, started to give address but before order taken put on hold. Two customer orders taken whilst I listened, had to whistle to get picked up. Then someone tried to call out and asked if they can call me back. Very poor....

Order from here at least once a week and it's unreal the sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style is incredible and the egg fried rice is always amazing, every now and again I receive what I like to call "nice rice" which is where it's really chewy and just bangs really hard. 10/10 definitely recommend to anyone and everyone

This is an average Chinese, nothing wow about the food but it's decent. The staff are friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Normally get free prawn crackers too and always the Chinese fortune cookie 🍪 It's a reasonable Chinese all in all.

S&S chicken balls of a good portion size, the crispy seaweed a little chewy, boiled rice nice and fluffy, sauce fur chicken a bit sugary and lacking flavor, staff a little sullen (something I said maybe?), but fair value overall. Nice to get fabulous, but failing that a basic Chinese takeaway will do. I'd go again.

No mucho tiempo nos mudamos a la zona. Quizás esperaba demasiado, pero este fue el peor comida china que he tenido el disgusto de probar en toda mi vida. Esperamos a lo largo tiempo después dijeron sería media hora. Una vez llegamos a la casa equivocada orden con un plato de costillas 2 desaparecidos y sin sabor. Cada salsa de tomate y basados era insípida me refiero completamente carente de cualquier sabor. Su como si las personas que no son, cocinar en China de todos modos familiarizado con buena en absoluto. Supongo que es una lección aprendida.

Acabamos de recibir una comida para llevar desde aquí. El hombre. En el teléfono mantienen nuestro orden equivocado en el teléfono. . Enviaron pato barrio cuando preguntamos por la mitad, perdimos una bañera de salsa satay. La sal y la pimienta eran tan seca costillas y duro, también me pidió mi pollo en alubias negras para ser muy caliente y cuando comimos allí no había especias en absoluto, ninguna! . . . El punto de la crítica es si quieres un chino, no pida desde aquí.

I havent had a bad takeaway from here, bar getting the order slightly wrong on one occasion, its always been very good. Their delivery times can be staggeringly quick, or fairly normal, 20 minutes is about the average time I wait, so i cant fault that. Food is always hot on arrival, and the staff are very polite.I think the price is pretty fair, if not reasonably cheap.

This is a take away restaurant only. We have been going here for 6 months now and the food is very good. I particularly recommend the king prawn in black bean sauce.

Okay ..... really did not want to leave this review.I have been going to the China Cottage close to 20 years since it first opened.This place used to be the best Chinese in Worthing as far as I am concerned. Back in my single days I could visit the place 4 times a week.Over the years they have changed hands or at least management a few times. And it time it gets a little worse.The place is now very tired. And looking at the kitchen in need of a deep clean.Few weeks ago ordered our usual dishes. Was VERY disappointed in the quality. Portions seemed smaller, food seemed like it was prepared well in advance or worse still reheated from previous day. The oils they had used to cook in were obviously past there best.Put it down to a bad day (can happen to anyone).Left it a couple of weeks to go back, and was the same again. The quail of ingredients, the cooking, portions and price now so poor.We will give it one more go, if no better will have to look for a new Chinese. Very sad :(

This is a take away Chinese offering home delivery. Small charge for a delivery to South Ferring. The menu is a varied one with a good selection of vegetarians. It was taken some while ago and we were concerned that the standard would drop ... we are pleased to retain this as our normal place for a good quality home delivery meal.

Asked for the Vegetarian Singapore rice noodles without egg or mushrooms- was told it had no mushrooms anyway... Great!Got home- it had mushrooms. Took it back, they made a new one apparently without mushrooms. Took it home, opened it up and was full of egg and then after further inspection it also contained mushrooms.Unfortunately I will not be going back. Nor will I be recommending it. Shame, as it is so local to me but bad staff knowledge of own product is a big turn off.

This is absolutely the best Chinese take away there is. The food always is at a high standard and whenever home delivered, it is never late. I have been here over 250 times and believe me it was worth it. The staff are equally lovely and are happy and inviting. This deserves more then 5 stars!

Recently changed hands and boy what a difference! Used to be my favourite but about 5 years ago the food went horrid so i found an alternative. Was advised by mum to give another try as recently changed hands and am so glad i did, just had second takeaway from there and it was lovely. Not greasy or too salty like some chinese takeaway. Good quality ingredients....super juicy prawns and the best prawn toast ive ever had. Plus the set meals offer really good value for money, with the quantity you get. Polite and friendly staff. Couldnt recommend enough A+++

We ordered a (very expensive) takeaway on New Years Eve at 6pm to be delivered at 8pm, at 8:15 I phoned them and was told it still wasn't out of the kitchen and would be another 20minutes, not happy with this i said i would collect. I was sat in the freezing cold reception for a further half an hour and finally got our food. This meant we were late for our NYE party and missed the whole evening.We decided to give the China Cottage a 2nd chance this weekend on the basis of the reviews on trip advisorWas told the food would be ready to be collected in 20 minutes, so headed down and was again sat in the freezing cold reception for another 40 minutes so the 20minutes somehow turned into 60 minutes; during this time the staff behind the counter were still telling people on the phone that collection orders would be ready in 20 minutes even though he knew (and admitted to his co-worker) that it wouldn't be ready in that time.When we got the food home and half was cold as if it had been ready after 20 minutes and then left on the side whilst the remainder of the order was cooked, the chow mein incredibly greasy and all sauces seemed like they had been watered down.2nd chance was no good, they won't be getting a third.

All the food I have had here is great. They have an open kitchen so nothing to hide. Highly recommended takeaway with authentic cuisine.

As a party of 4, at home on Saturday evening, we had a hot and quickly delivered Chinese meal.No problems with any of it so if you want a decent Chinese you could do much worse than this one (as we have in the past!).

I've used China Cottage for over a year now . I love their chicken chow mein so much more flavours than previous takeaway places I used to go to. rest of the food its lovely . Highly recommend .

By far this is my fav take away in worthing. The food is so good i am asked my other who dont live local to take it with me when i visit. They are happy to adapt there dishes also for diet requirments. No egg! no pork! Really good!

The best Chinese takeaway / Delivery in Worthing. Excellent food, not at all oily (eg spring rolls), all freshly cooked. I wouldn't get a takeaway from any other place in Worthing, and THEY DELIVER!

Good food and service. A choice menu or set meal. We were a large group and shared our dishes, plenty for all and not rushed.The restaurant is clean and smart looking and able to cater for large or small partiesWith so many Chinese restaurants and takeaways in the town, this one is situated just outside. I have recommended to may friends who also enjoyed the food and menu choice.
