First time ordering and never again. Order came with missing items, cold chewy rubber like chicken and they can't see to read order notes

Worst takeaway I have ever had.Fried rice from a microwave bag awful chips and bland curry sauce.First and last visit !

After a long day at work I popped into this Chinese, the portion is absolutely childlike one small square tub of chips that aren’t cooked properly and cost me £7.10 for a curry sauce and this portion of chips. Wouldn’t even fill a borrower up. Ruined me whole day . Curry sauce was nice but there’s nowt to dip it in will have to drink it through a straw.

Miserable receptionist, bland food, paid for items (crackers) and have to ask for them as many other reviews seem to also mention. Nearby businesses are much friendlier, so no reason to return here.

Food was average but what gave the low review is that we only realised afterwards that that there was fee prawn crackers over £18 and yet we received none . We ordered sitting in venue and we waited ages for someone to come to front desk . Somewhere else next time .

Paid top dollar for 2 x curry's and other items..I live less than two minutes away so would expect the curry to be hot..absolutely not..not even like warm..totally dissatisfied and disappointed with this take away shop..when I called to complain the lady said all curry's where piping hot,I'm sorry but thats untrue, had to go into microwave to be served...take away orders where Sitting on the bench where there for 10 -12mins before the delivery guy collected them to deliver...not good enough,sorry..

The food is always great from here and the delivery is always prompt and the drivers are always polite.

Spent £34 and didn’t even get crackers for free since I got the 99p deal salt and pepper chips but states you get free crackers after £18, tastes awful had 3 mouth fulls and through the lot away the bairn was buzzing to be getting a Chinese and he hasn’t even ate it would not recommend disgusting

Disgusting raw chicken when I complained was told its precooked and we cook it 3 times. Its like see through jelly its not cooked wish I could post pics. Reporting in morning to health inspector

Service was fine. However there was a hair in my food.. i dont think the food was great neither unfortunately.

Nice friendly service and quick but the food is absolutely tasteless. I’ve had a few dishes from here giving it a chance. But if you're looking for tasty food I would think twice sadly.

Nicest China Curry in South Shields

Expensive meal with half full cartons food was bland not much taste and will never go back had cheaper Chinese food from other places and there cartons were full to the brim china cook proper rip off

First time ordering from China cook i had king prawn chow mein my son had roast duck and king prawn chow mein both were tasty there was so much of it almost falling off the plates only downfall for me is that the curry sauce isn’t spicy the delivery was fast came about fifteen minutes earlier than expected :)

We were let down by my local Chinese take away. I rang china cook starving and explained. Our food arrived 20 minutes later and was top-notch! They now have new regulars as we really appreciated the effort on a busy Saturday night.

Just received our meal after waiting 1hr 15 minutes stone cold! I'm not one to complain but meal was tasteless and every thing had a peculiar taste! Prawns were over cooked and chicken very dry. The whole meal was just awful! So disappointed with the meal. £22 of my hard earned cash went in the bin. So disappointed is an understatement!

I used to love this place but i can honestly say it's the worst food I've had in ages and the women at the main desk looks as if she hates everything 🤣 cheer up lass and get a new cook

Ordered for the first time tonight and im absolutley devistated i always go to cina cook on canterberry street which is amazing this was cold chicken was hard n dry basically threw it in the bin never tasted nothing like the noodles will not be returning spent £22.00 to go in the bin i wouldnt even feed it to my dog

Food arrived quicker than expected but wish it took longer as maybe the chips would have been cooked when they arrived. Ordered two different dishes, both tasted the same, chicken was chunky, hard and dry, beef was chewy and full of fat. Best thing was noodles which you can't really get wrong and prawn crackers. Salt n pepper chips were terrible, still hard in the middle and weren't really salt n pepper, more so Chinese powder from morrisons with pepper and onion. Won't be going back here, sticking with sunny house!

Had ordered a delivery at 19:20pm, it was subsequently delivered to the wrong address and over 3 hours later and we haven't received any food, will only be picking food for collection from now on. No more delivery, disappointed with the service as they have been reliable in the past but not today.

Unreal I don't go anywhere else for Chinese takeaway. Staff lovely and food so nice. Love crispy chicken peking yummy, chips amaze. Unreal and delivery average waiting time xxx

Whilst I appreciate its Christmas Eve I don’t expect to wait 3 hours and then be told there are 15 orders ahead of mine in the queue still to be made. If you get that busy either stop taking orders or be up front about delivery times. Two kids tired and gingery as a result!!

Used to be spot on but recently curry sauce has been really watery and tasteless even asked them to thicken it up while ordering to no avail

Quick service, polite staff, excellent portions and excellent food.

In a theme of trying new restaurants and takeaways delivering during lockdown we decided on the China Cook in South Shields. Choice is huge and we rang them direct to order, paying over the phone to preserve contact. Myself and my family shared a munch box, chicken skewers, ribs, salt and pepper chicken, batter chicken, spring rolls and samosas, egg fried rice and chips with 2 choices of sauce, we went for curry. Beautiful, thoroughly enjoyed it all as did my son. Husband went for egg fried rice and Szechuan beef and a massive bag of prawn crackers free if you like them. Definitely a good find we can now alternate with our favourite Chinese of all time.

Brilliant food, piping hot on arrival even with this covid 19 on, will definitely be ordering again🤙

After taken 2 and ahalf hours to come its by far the worst chinese ive ever tasted, spring rolls and samosas are soggy the chicken in the chowmein has veins in it, and to top it off its barely warm, will 100% nevwr order from here again not even worth the 1 star

What an absolute joke of a Chinese takeaway I ordered a takeaway at 6.40 pm was told it could be up to 2 hours wait which wasn't a problem after it not arriving by 9.00 I called back to be told it's just leaving now it'll be 30 mins at 9.45 it still hadn't arrived so I tried to call the shop but it was constantly engaged I then drove to the shop for a refund as I paid over the phone,when I got there at 10.00 I was then told it was just being cooked there and then.The Chinese girl behind the counter totally lied saying they were overwhelmed with orders and everyone who had ordered after my initial order still hadn't got there food as yet and I was next in line I demanded my money back after a heated discussion they eventually refunded me,now it gets better I got home at 10.30 then 2 minutes later a delivery driver arrived with the food but then wouldn't leave it because I'd been in to complain. Absolute joke I would never use this shop again

Best Chinese Takeaway in South Shields

Always really lovely food, delicious, hot and quick delivery. Top marks from me mainly because it is very high quality food, everything always cooked perfectly, beef soft and tender, chicken succulent and not compacted chicken bits, it's real chicken breast, and my personal favourite, huge juicy prawns and not tiny bits of shrimp.

After winning a sweet and sour chicken dish in a Facebook Competition I went to collect the dish tonight. It had chicken in batter, salt and pepper chips, fried rice, curry sauce and a sweet and sour sauce. My daughter and granddaughter helped me eat it. I put a little bit of everything on my plate. The chicken was very moist and fresh, batter nice and crispy too. The curry sauce was really nice, not too peppery like some are. My daughter thought the sweet and sour wasn't sour enough for her but as I don't normally eat it I found it very nice. The best was the salt and pepper chips, not too greasy and the salt and pepper wasn't over powering. I will be ordering this dish again.

Never seen Chinese food presented so badly. No individual flavour all tasted the same will definitely be giving china cook a miss in future!

Waited 2 hours for delivery and still didn't arrive rang on 2 separate access and we were told each time told on it's way 30 mins apart. Disgusting service! Ordered from here a lot of different occasions will NEVER order again

China Cook is a lovely little takeaway, reasonably priced and in a good area. Always busy without appearing busy! Ive had a few different things from their, Chicken Satay, Crispy Duck, Beef in Black Bean Sauce, House Special etc all been really good and full of flavour. Only less than brilliant thing I've had was the Chicken Katsu - which basically a pre-packed meal or that is how it appears. Still very tasty!

Food was well priced and portion sizes were massive! I found my chow mein a bit too salty for my taste, but the rest of my family enjoyed their meals. Would use this again when I visit next and maybe choose another item off the menu to try. Staff were really friendly. The food took a good amount of time to cook not too long but not rushed and we had free prawn crackers with our food.

Always ordered from here in the past as it was always gorgeous but for the last few months I’ve been disappointed, chips are not cooked and are still hard chicken is always hard and chewy and nothing seems to have any taste! Most of it is just inedible! Honestly if you want a good Chinese I’d go to Ocean Pearl at harton nook always spot on from there.

Delicious food. Would've gave a 5star but they recently put a minimum of £8 for delivery. When you're a single person you can't order all that food so can't order from there anymore as my regular food doesn't amount to that price. In shop lovely staff and owners. Definitely recommend for the food!!

Food is superb, I'm not vegetarian but the Deep-Fried Bean Curd is weirdly addictive. Food always arrives well-packed, hot and fresh. Prices are very reasonable, and they don't stint on the portion sizes. Highly recommended.

Your luck to get a 1 star cos it was an hour and a half late food was cold and u say they was pork balls more like beef never again

Ordered food at 19:55, was told it'd be 45 mins to 1 hour. Food hadn't arrived upon phoning at 21:10 to be told that they were busy and were still waiting for a driver. Food arrived at 21:50, and was still expected to pay full price, and driver passed the buck back to the shop when toldUpon sorting the food out, found there was a free potion of an appistiser and the food would have probably tasted a lot nicer if it hadn't of been like warm. Not impressed at all and will not be ordering from this Chinese again.

Please be aware this is the China Cook on westoe road. The food is great and the best Chinese food in shields.

Just for Cindy, there is two China cooks and this is the best one, my fav Chinese in the town.

Was once very good but has gone really down hill over the last year. Chicken & beef curry was horrible and will never go back.
