Once a very good Chinese now very greasy ..has new management and owners. it's a shame it was the best Chinese in Stortford and now not so.. had a duck dish that was literally inedible.. update.... much better they've ironed out a lot of their problems And is now a very good Chinese again

The food here is so good and for such a reasonable price too. Great value for money and the people are lovely.

I am aware it has changed owners and looking at other reviews we haven’t ordered from there until last night. It was lovely. Huge portions, great flavour and definitely back to being Stortfords best Chinese in my opinion. Maybe they needed time to find there feet.. give it another go

I have *never* come across a Chinese which is so consistently exceptional. Every single dish is bang on, even their chips (you think oh how good can chips get) are fantastic. Can’t recommend this place highly enough, I travel from Harlow to collect simply because it is head and shoulders above all options in Harlow

Wonderful meal for five, excellent service as always, friendly service, freshly prepared and hot.

Tried it out on the way home the other night and it’s by far the best Chinese takeaway in Stortford I have had. With apron road car park being a 10 second walk away it makes it really convenient to collect from.

My wife and I had a takeaway from here this evening based upon the reviews we read on here. I can honestly say our food was absolutely superb! Really good quality and generous portions. Very busy so I'd advise you to order early to avoid a long wait. The lady taking our order was very polite and helpful in advising us on our choices. We are visiting from Lincoln. I only wish we had a Chinese takeaway as good as this in Lincoln. Highly recommended 🙂

I've been a customer of China City for many years. The setup is quite old school - no online ordering and only accepts cash on collection. It is super busy at weekends due to its popularity. The food quality is just amazing, every dish always seems to be "the best dish of this I've every had". My favourites are the Ribs in Peeking sauce which just falls off the bone, and the lemon chicken which is so zesty and tender. Portion sizes are much bigger compared to other outlets. The lady on the front desk, is always polite and works ever so hard despite always being so busy. The food quality, portion sizes and value make this the best Chinese takeaway in town by a mile!

This is our go to Chinese, the food is delicious and always hot. Lots to choose from too. The woman who owns it is so lovely. I think it is cash only, not a problem as there is a cash machine down the road.

This was the first time we went to this takeaway. Food was plentiful and very well priced. My only complaint is that the “Grilled Prawns with Ginger, Garlic, Spring Onions and Vinegar” was coated in some kind of scrambled egg which wasn’t mentioned on the menu. I don’t eat egg, so my dish was inedible for me which was really disappointing. It spoiled my meal as I had to pinch food from everyone else. Aside from that, it was tasty food. We may well go back to try other dishes.

Why didn’t we discover this place earlier? They only have a very small premises, they only take cask no cards, they only have one chef. So you need to order early on the one telephone line. When you get meal home, you’ll be very pleasantly surprised, just lie I was. We ordered what we thought should just about be enough for two meals each for two people. It turns out there was ample for three meals.the satay chicken was lovely, and the pieces large enough to cut up and ear over three meals. The food is tasty and I’m so regretful we didn’t find this place earlier. Take note..... order early as they always seem overwhelmed at weekends fo the one chef.

Don’t be put off by the outside... it looks just like a very small back street takeaway, and that’s what it is. However, boasting a Hygiene rating of the top awarded 5, what comes out of the kitchen is big. Joining the queue (at home) for my second meal from here, both with a two hour wait, I talk to the oriental lady behind the counter. I say ‘You’re busy’ to which she says not especially busy, just they time collections to maintain social distancing. Also, their kitchen is very small and only one chef. But the quantity and quality are top notch. No wonder the wait is always so long. Just be reminded, the only take cash, no card or cheque payments but there is a ATM as you turn into Church Street from Potter Street which is about 80 metres away, and it’s takeaway only.

Had our first take away from this restaurant last night. Excellent food. The best we have had from take-away. Cash only. No menu on the web site which would be a welcome addition.

Yummy food, fantastic portions and prices. The lady who serves is such a nice lady also.

The food is wonderful, the portions for the meals are huge( the meal for 2 persons is actually for 4 even with a good appetite). The food is always pipping hot. It's one of the best takeaway food I've had.

Finally, a half decent Chinese take away. They are surprisingly rare in this area, but China City is good. Worth the effort to travel to. Some unusual dishes on the menu too which you won't find at other Chinese takeaways

This is certainly one of the most pleasant restaurants in the area. Whenever I come to this place I am truly happy. They always keep their very high level service and the topmost level of cooking they offer. You always win with this restaurant. Warmly recommended.

After moving to the area having lived in London we found the chinese restuarants in Stortford to be uniformly poor. Unfortunately we’d been spoiled by previously living opposite one of the best in the UK. After a personal recommendation we tried the China City and have been very satisfied. Yes, there’s lots of room for improvement around the freezing cold waiting area and non-existant online ordering, and they are even thinking of not taking card payments in future according to my partner — which might curtail some of my more extravagent visits — but the food is the best for miles.

Excellent food, very accommodating. They’re so busy, because they’re so good, always best to phone your order thru and take cash.

We've been using China City for years, simply can't beat the food and value! Always very busy, so if you've not used before, be ready for a long wait, especially on a Saturday night, but if they say an hour, it'll be ready on the dot, unlike other places that say one thing and mean another. Food is amazing with huge portions, and thoroughly enjoy and recommend! As mentioned in another review, the lady on the counter is lovely!

Having just moved into the area I asked advice online for my nearest Chinese food restaurant, this is the one I tried. I cannot rate it high enough. Having allergies they were extremely helpful and the food was delicious, I have used them again the following week and it was just as lovely. Thank you. First Takeaway from here before having read the reviews on line.I can definitely say I was not let down. Probably one of the nicest take away chinese's I've had before, and at a very reasonable price. Wasn't greasey at all, and tasted great! Would definitely recommend.

Having lived in the the area all my life I know this is the best Chinese because I’ve tried every Chinese takeaway in the area and we’ve been getting ours from here for the last 4 years and I love the place,in fact given the chance I’d move in,fantastic food seriously fantastic food,lovely friendly staff and always busy which for me is a great sign that the food is still great.

Like all other reviews, BEST Chinese in Stortford hands down, maybe even in Hertfordshire. If you like curry, get their curry. It's amazing.

Go here for takeaway every couple of weeks. Fantastic food, haven't had a bad one yet. Does get very busy at opening time so may have a bit of a wait but definately worth it.
