This is a place to visit if you would like to relive faulty towers. The staff were all Manuel’s and the owner was definitely Basil faulty. What a joke please visit the eastern court just down the road.

Came here for the first time yesterday and we are glad we did. Plenty of food choice, and what we did choose was very nice and hot. Things were being replenished all the time. Hardly anything was left to run out. Disposable gloves were given out so you could go up and use the self service buffet, which was great but was busy. My only issue was that because it was very busy, everyone was sat close to each other and brushing past each other when people were sat eating.

I was very disappointed on my special family day out when I made the decision to dine at China City restaurant in Castleford Last week after waiting long since pandemic. The food was very salty I could feel the heat of the salt even after the few starters from the first few minutes . There is a variety food which is great, their prices have also gone up and I feel the food standard need to visit this restaurant and try the food it’s health hazard and should not be allowed. Imagine children health with all the salt it’s so wrong. The trick is they are now asking you to pay first before you eat I’m sure this is because some people complained after eating this food. I do hope the owners review this and change please don’t kill people we have enough already with the pandemic. A chef told me that there is a substance they call ‘GMO’ not sure if it’s correct that they put in the food to make you feel full up and not eat much, I wonder if this is legal ? Each and every food served was very salty apart from the fruits. My son had ice cream and he threw up like a dog? Please if the owner reviews this kindly act on improving this, I shall visit again and if there is no change will report this situation. Please do not people’s lives at risk at the expense of profit making.

2nd time Iv ordered from this place with a large order and had to get my money back. After thinking this can’t happen again… Both times Food never turned up after 2 hours. Needs more variety and vary it so its not the same every time you go. Also need to have refiĺable soft drinks. Needs proper cakes on dessert bit instead of tiny sponge cakes. Apart from that it isn't bad. Just needs more exciting dishes on a weekend

We used to go hear quite often before the first lockdown, so I was happy to find out they'd re-opened the buffet with the easing of restrictions from May 17. The restaurant has adopted a safe and sensible policy of paying first for your meal at the counter and then letting you self serve, whilst wearing masks and provided gloves, which you keep throughout your meal. You take these off whilst eating of course. The tables are well spaced out and as it's self service you can size your own portions and don't need to worry about being taken round by staff, you are left to your own devices. I'd say that this is the best way a buffet can operate until things completely return to normal. The buffet prices has increased slightly (couple of quid more) but that is to be expected following a year of closures and it is still very reasonable for an all you can eat. The food choice of the buffet was pretty much the same as it was before all the lockdown closures, so plenty of choice of your favourite Chinese dishes and the food always is always hot and tasty. We feared that Chinese buffets may become a thing of the past following all the lockdown issues, but we are very happy to see China City getting back to business as usual. 5 stars from us and we will keep coming back.

Just ordered a meal with king prawn with cashew nut and we received King prawn with kung poo sauce which is spicy. My partner can't eat spicy so he has gone without a meal. Not impressed and it took nearly an hour for delivery which was a joke.

I’ve been here multiple of times and it was great. First time here since the whole pandemic and it’s an absolute waste of money. I went in a group of 4 people for a AS MUCH AS YOU CAN EAT BUFFET, we all like different things so we ordered sharing portions so that they’re smaller, if we like different things a few different dishes were ordered to the table. Now they bring the food out for you because of the pandemic. We placed an order and half of it arrived so we started questioning the staff about it and he told us there’s too much food going out and too much waste, if we don’t eat it all we will be charged?! That’s an absolute disgrace it’s a restaurant and an all you can eat buffet. I have never ever been approached by a bunch of rude people in my life never mind staff at a restaurant telling me I’ve got to eat all my food or I’ll get charged. Felt like 5 year old getting told off by my mum. Disgusting hygiene, our table was covered in food literally as if someone has thrown it all over the floor and to be honest with you previous customers probably did to get rid of the food in case there was ‘too much waste’ and if they was going to get ‘charged more’. Horrible people never again don’t waste your time folks!

The food and service in this so called restaurant is shocking. They tried to give me my wife and our Grandson a meal with no plates or knives and folks. The starters they brought to our table were so poor quality I wouldn’t have given my dog it. Please don’t visit this shower of sorrow.

The food we had ordered of the new style menu was very nice and tasty The service we got was not so good, we had to ask for missing items off the menu which took about 20 minutes to arrive, extra napkins we got 2. My wife asked for a jug of water and got a pint glass of water and so on. Anyway on paying the bill £31.80 using my debit card the gentleman behind the plastic screen handed me back my card and receipt and it wasn't till I arrived home I checked the receipt and found I had paid a Gratuity fee of £2.20 which I was not aware of!. Considering on the counter there was a bowl of change with Tips marked on it and if I had given the waiter a tip the total could have been a lot more. Is it right to add on to your bill the extra payment without being notified? The food itself was very nice and tasty.

We were given two menus (unfortunately missing the front page) so it took a while to work out how the new system worked. Rather than getting a plate and walking round yourself, ladling food onto your plate, you ordered starters and mains as you felt like it - BUT - you could order as much as you liked (though there was a precautionary note not to incur excess wastage) This whole system worked perfectly - and felt much more like a real restaurant. We started with crispy duck and satay chicken, then had singapore chowmein, chicken chowmein, chicken curry, chicken with black bean, kung po chicken, prawn with black bean, tofu and vegetables.. I'd say the list was endless, but after one more chicken satay and some ice cream we were full - and didnt waste a morsel. We didnt order all at once, and as it was fairly quiet the food came very quickly - maybe it would take longer if it was full, but as it was, we ate just what we wanted, and tried a fair portion of the menu. We'll definitely be back to try more - I much prefer this system than the old one where food is sitting in trays for who knows how long, and just isn't that hot. Yes, they may have trays of food back in the kitchen, but what we had was hot and it was presented much better. Not sure I ate any more than I would normally. All the food was tasty and just great. We'll definitely be back - I hope they keep it like this !

Covid aside, this has got to be the worst restaurant we have eaten in this year: 0/10 Staff management: Slow slow slow. The staff were inattentive and didn't seem to know what they were doing. Rather than one server taking care of one area, they seemed to be wandering with eyes faced downward. Customers were raising their hands to attract their attention but not being seen. I attracted a member of staff with a polite, "Excuse me", when we wanted to pay and were told to wait a moment. We did. Eventually, I attracted another server, who told us that customers need to go to the bar to pay! ❌ Time management: We arrived at 18:10 for an 18:30 booking, and joined a queue. We expected the restaurant to have set seating times; hence, customers would be leaving at 18:15 giving time for the tables to be cleaned before the 18:30 sitting. This wasn't the case, and we had to wait in the queue for customers who were still eating to finish and leave. We were eventually seated at 18:50, but no-one came to take our order for another 10 minutes, so 30 minutes after our booking time, in a red hot restaurant all we had were drinks. We ordered our starter via the waiter who brought our drinks, and they arrived 15 minutes later (19:15), so we didn't start eating until 45 minutes after our booking time. Realising the service was slow, while waiting for our starters to arrive, we selected our main menu dishes, and immediately gave our main menu order to the waiter who served our starters. As the time between courses was long, customer appetites are reduced as we feel fuller, less food was eaten, and the restaurant profits were higher. ❌ Price: The price had increased to £14.90 per adult but, rather than the all-you-can-eat buffet, due to Covid there was an a la carte menu. Fair enough, but the government recently reduced the VAT for restaurants, and it doesn't look like the restaurant passes it on to customers? Rather than guessing how much each of the buffet items customers will eat, I assumed that it would be easier to cater for a limited a la carte menu. This was not the case. Even a simple staple item like soup took a long time to arrive. ❌ Food quality: For us, the best food was the Capital spare ribs starter and the (plain) ice cream dessert! The rest of the food felt either fatty/oily or salty - Was this, combined with the heat, to increase drink sales? Foods to avoid at all costs include the chilli ribs (see pic) which were mostly fat, the house special egg foo yung (see pic) which was much too dry and salty, and the onion rings (which just tasted of fat). Craig stated that the Beef with chilli and black bean sauce was the worst he had ever tasted. The less said about the rest, the better! ❌ Venue: Today was one of the hottest days of the year. Though windows were open, I didn't see a fan, or anything that circulated air. When I informed a member of staff, I was told that the air conditioner was broken. The restaurant was so hot that customers were using their menus as a fan. Eventually, a lady collapsed unconscious with heat stroke and I, with the help of a waiter, had to carry her outside to cool off. Once the lady had come round, until I mentioned that the young lady had passed-out due to their negligence (stupidly hot and no airflow), the manager still expected payment! ❌ Customer experience: We heard many customers complaining - The only reason I didn't was that Craig asked me not to. On the way out, one of the customers told us that we were the only customers that hadn't complained! ❌ We, of course, will NOT return. 🦉😢

Absolutely shocking! Missing starters missing mains puddings awful food meets no Chinese delicacy would rather of got a takeaway from local Chinese. Staff arrogant and rude especially the manager! Won't be returning avoid and find somwhere better. Glad it was eat out to help out because I would of walked out without paying.

What a joke Adult price £14.90 child £7.90, went with my daughter my partners daughter and my 2 grandsons, 3 kids under the age of 13, because they were taler than 140cm I had to pay adult price, my youngest grandson who’s only 8 fell asleep so didn’t eat and still had to pay child price and I know it’s eat out to help out and you pay half but really they got full price for 3 kids and half price for 2 adults, they wouldn’t listen to reason a child is someone under 16, the kids also wanted ice cream to take out as we had seen them let other customers do this when we asked we were told no we don’t do take out, when we pointed out that some one had just done so we were told it was because they had only had starters, it was very warm in the restraint and a young pregnant girl fainted she was carried outside for some air and staff asked her to pay for food she hadn’t yet had what an absolute joke, won’t be taking kids here again, you shouldn’t have to pay adult price for a child. Myself and family have just returned from what I can only describe as a worrying evening meal out. It's the 1st time we've been back since before lockdown. We waited on arrival to be shown to our table having 1st being asked to use hand sanitiser, which we did. Things have changed slightly with the current situation & I totally understand this, certain menu items are cooked to order and all is brought to your table, so far so good, however the waiting staff all were wearing masks but some were wearing theirs just over their mouths ( I'm a bit worried at this point ). Table clearing was very hit and miss and trying to get another drink was nigh on impossible. As in most restaurants you tend to look around and I noticed a table being cleared ready for the next sitting, the laminated menu was removed as was the table cloth, then a fresh table cloth put back on the table but alarmingly the laminated menu was also put back on the table WITHOUT being sanitised, I thought maybe this was an over sight, however I was proved wrong, time & time again, and it seemed to be the same male member of staff each time. It's not like people are not aware of what is going on in the world is it ?? We had finished our meal at this point, had I known before hand I wouldn't have gone in. Then to add insult to injury, when coming to pay I always ask for an itemised bill - so glad I did, they only tried charging full price for my 8 year old, that was probably an honest mistake. In summary I will never eat at this place again, if you insist we sanitize on entry ( and so you should) then you should insist your staff clean and sanitize properly

This is our favourite Chinese Buffet restaurant! The food is always good and the kids love that they can have a little bit of lots of different dishes. Came again today, travel from Bradford quite regular, only fault could say today, the chicken and sweetcorn soup really had no flavour to it, every other dish was flavoursome and piping hot, love our family Sunday visits, will be back in the new year.

Quiet.serenity.fantastic.cool and calm. The service is an excellent. Customers service awesome. Buffets. Ice cream.fruits desserts free. Drinks not included. Food very tantalising A place to be.

Buffet .... xmas eve. Family venture out four adults , two kids . Food was fine , bar had reasonable selection ... staff were good - efficient. Love the ice cream machine . Bill was reasonable ... Would return : no frills Chinese , buffet.

In addition, they serve poor quality food, followed by terrible service and as a result, they’ve CERTAINLY lost a lot of repeat custom. I would not and will not recommend this establishment to anyone.

We have been customers for years. I don't know what's happening but the last 4 deliveries have been so late, tonight 2 hours late. Not good when you order at 6.30 pm and have to be up at 3am for work... Order wrong, hoisin was gravy ! Mixed veg was raw.... Shocking service and food recently and we're finished using you now.
