Magic Wok in Wakefield

Tried every Chinese in Castleford and magic wok is by far the most consistent and best food.

Not sure what the food is like as I didn't receive any. Ordered by phone, went in to collect, confirmed order and paid. We then had to wait in excess of 30mins while other customers came in, ordered and received their food. When I asked about our order I was told "What order". I asked for a refund and we went elsewhere.

I wouldn't have given this place one star if I had the choice, just got chicken in black bean sauce, the chicken was inedible, slimey and rubbery don't know how it was "cooked" it went in the bin.

If you like an upset stomach via reheated food magic wok Chinese is the place to order from if you want stomach cramps and diarrhoea, we`ve been ordering from Magic wok since the early 90`s when back in the day it was Mayfair serving excellent Chinese food, however its changed hands multiple times since then and now provides sub standard food guaranteed to give you a stomach upset, that & shocking customer service where they take your order and slam the phone down before you can even get the chance to say thank you... You have been warned!

Best Chinese is Castleford by far!!!! Took me 2 years of living here to find a decent Chinese takeaway. Their Black Bean sauce is the best 😍 ... My fiance used to be a Chinese Chef and he rates it too! If you haven't been give it a go. We're moving to Knottingley, going to miss this place so much might have to drive back to Castleford 😊 Whoever the chef is he gets 10/10 (Please open a restaurant in Castleford or Pontefract, you would do so well).xx

Food is just OK. Bit greasy and way too salty.

Always get our food here but now told we have to spend £20 to get a free bag of prawn crackers which we have always had. Because of your penny pinching you have lost mine and my families business.

It’s about time I wrote a review for Magic Wok! I got my first ever Chinese takeaway from here when I was 18, I’m now 23. Nearly 6 years ago. I live in Knottingley, but this is the only one I’ll eat from and I’d rather travel home with the potential risk of my food being a little bit cold than order from anywhere else. The KUNG PO is delicious, chips are crispy and tastes like they’ve been triple fried in the best way possible! Noodles are lovely, salt and pepper chicken is great too. I could go on and on, very reasonably priced and the lady who is on the front desk is very pleasant and lovely to chat to. If you haven’t eaten here, please try it! Cannot wait for my next one.

The food never turned up. They forgot our order.

Usually enjoy food from here, but most of tonight's went in the bin. Best thing about the whole meal was the prawn crackers. Noodle box awful, chicken kung po disgusting was actually prawns and not chicken. Didn't even taste like a kung po. Won't be ordering from Magic Wok again. Expensive bin food £27. Wish I could have put minus stars

Honestly disappointing in this place. Good never arrived and when rang to tell them they said food on way and then hung up. Rang back up and said post code but driver said house does not exist though house been around since 1950!

Was told 45 min delivery rang back after an hour. Was told driver should be outside. Rang again only to be told they'd only just started cooking the food

I got one of their new noodle boxes the chicken satay one, easily more than enough for two people highly recommended.

This chinese used to be lovely, fluffy rice, pancake rolls nice and crispy not greasy........NOT ANYMORE, this time the rice was very greasy, the pancake rolls were so greasy, it went straight in the bin, very disappointing, been going here years too, don't know if you've switched owners or just the chef!!!!!!!

Been using Magic Wok for a good while now and in the main, we have been very pleased with the standard of food served up. Bearing in mind there are so many other Chinese takeaways in the vicinity, it makes sense to keep ones regulars happy Unfortunately, this wasn't the case Saturday gone. Ordering for three, we opted for the Sweet & Sour Chicken Cantonese style, beef Szechuan , Roast Duck Chinese style, two Pancake rolls, egg fried rice, salt & pepper chips and noodles. Cost £ £36.40. Not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. To say the duck was a disappointment is an understatement. Seven small, and I mean small, pieces of duck, two pure fat, two mainly fat and three others that ware embarrassingly tiny. Hidden beneath a mountain of Pak Choi and other vegetables, they were swimming in a bowl full of watery sauce The pancake rolls were a massive let down too. Void of Chinese pork or shrimps as is the norm, it was plain old bean sprouts with a modicum of reformed chicken. The salt & pepper would have been OK had there been some salt & pepper on 'em, whilst the noodles were tasteless. As for the egg fried rice, Magic Wok can usually boast restaurant standard fluffy white rice. Not this time. Bog standard brown, too much soy sauce egg fried, nothing out of the ordinary All in all a let down They've taken their eye off the ball.

Bland, not that good. I guess if you've never had Chinese before you'll like it but otherwise give it a miss.

We always have delicious take away from Magic Wok. The food is always piping hot and tastes fresh, not like many other take aways around here. The portion sizes are very reasonable too. Well worth a try, highly recommended!

Whould not go there again not a good experience

Just had the misfortune to order 2 meals from this place. Sweet & sour chicken with chips and ribs, crispy beef & noodles. Waited ages in a cold waiting room and the chips were greasy and sweet & sour sauce more like purée than sauce. Ribs and crispy beef burnt, noodles ok. All in all a complete waste of money. Must be better places in Castleford.

Food is great, great price for the value, delivery price is very reasonable, definitely recommend.

Ive been using magic wok for many years, family love the food, can't fault it.

Well, If I could have given 0 stars I would. It has just cost us £14.90 for 1x chicken chow mein and 1x dry spare ribs and the food is so bad it has gone in the bin!! Even our cat would not eat the chicken! I have travelled to really poor countries and eaten street food that has been superb fir a fraction of the price. Where the 4 &5 star reviews come from on here I really don't know! My advice is DO NOT BUY FROM HERE! THE FOOD IS INEDIBLE!

Just had chicken noodles and spare ribs from here costing £15 with delivery...looked at the reviews first and decided to give it a go. NOW I don't know what your all eating in castleford but I can honestly say this must of been the worst food I have ever had even my cat wouldn't eat the chicken, So down £15 because its all gone in the bin. Congratulations to the Magic Wok I think you should use your Magic in your food then it might be edible

Rubbish delivery service 45 mins late

We ordered sweat and sour chicken Cantonese style and chispy chicken with Thai sweat chili. The worst food I have eaten so far. The sauce tasted like melted sugar, it stank terribly of vinegar, the rice stank of old age, we almost threw up. Worst money spent, it all ended up in the bin, I haven't eaten anything else from this restaurant and I'm not going to. I do not recommend

Nice food. But on a weekend they say collection is 20 minutes then have you waiting in the shop 40 minutes happend on a few occasions now. Should say an hour if that's how long its taking. People came in after complained after 10 minutes and got food before me with extras, I got nothing. It's just bad service. I wont be using on a weekend again.

Best Chinese in cas. Yes the delivery is long (2 hours) but it’s because the place is so popular! really tasty food. Always nice and hot. Wouldn’t go anywhere else. Order every week. 100% recommend

3hours 20 minutes it's a joke regular 3 hours they need to get there act together

I know it’s Christmas Eve and all are busy but waiting nearly 3 hours and still no still no sign of food is utterly ridiculous. Really, don’t take orders if you can’t fulfill them. Now far too late to be eating.

Delivery took over an hour. OK sauce was like water. Won't be ordering from here again.

order food , 45mins for delivery. Turns up late last 2 times ( hour late , 45 mins time after) always on time pre lock down . Won't use again ( each time there late= only 5 mins away ) sounds like the local taxi firm

Very poor quality food. Overcooked, dry and mushy. The food simply tasted old. Very disappointed and sadly won't be coming back.

ordered the same thing as usual which is salt and pepper chicken and this time it was totally disgusting, so we rang up. When we rang the first woman on the phone laughed at us and handed us over to someone else. then the next lady kept pretending she didn’t know what we were saying and asked u the same thing repeatedly for 10 minutes. The salt and pepper chicken might as well be called salt and pepper fried batter. I could have broke my tooth biting into it. HORRIBLE FOOD AND HORRIBLE SERVICE

The order arrived in a timely manner, food was piping hot. All the order was there, the only problem was that the chow mein chicken didn't include sauce even though it was chosen to have sauce.

Ordered my takeaway at 6.55pm and I am sat here at 9.04pm writing this review with no food even delivered yet I phoned 30mins ago and was told it would be with me in 15mins still no food, just a phone call from the shop to say they were busy would have been nice Don't understand how I get a request from just eat to review my food when I haven't had it yet My food has finally arrived at 9.10 delivery driver couldn't apologise enough not his fault all we wanted was a phone call. Food is piping hot really nice

Took 1.18 hour to delivery !!!!! Expected in 30-45 min max .....

Placed a large order - left off vermicelli so one person had to go without. When I called they said they would bring it straight away - 1 hour later nothing and we had to go out so paid for a meal we didn't get :( Shame as really nice food but feel disappointed :(

Lovely food just took a while!!

Order was one dish light and took 30 mins to arrive after order arrived. Alsothecrispy chicken with cashew and yellow bean was very small as was special in ok sauce. This is not the first time they've cocked up and will not use them again
