Great Chinese food, reasonably priced, Easy convenient parking, friendly service... Now it has a new off licence and shop right next door, so you can pick up your bottle of wine or whatever you need right there.... Support your local shops before they disappear.

Very busy business but service is quite quick and our food was very good

Plain flavourless and very poor in quality. Crispy chilli beef was just deep fryed and dropped on the thinnest layer of tasteless sauce. BBQ sauce just bright red with no flavour. Duck in plum sauce was disgusting and squishy. Again couldn’t taste any plum at all, just seemed like duck dropped in a thick gravy. All this at one of the most expensive prices in Plymouth for Chinese

Ordered from here as before always been great however it has gone downhill. Ordered duck in plum sauce and got duck and pineapple (don’t like pineapple) and the duck was tasteless and fatty. The salt and pepper chicken was dry and the sweet and sour balls not good. Sadly will not be returning.

The girl on the telephone was very friendly. The food was excellent and very quick delivery.

Well what a disappointment that was , Is it a Chinese chef actually cooking these meals.my chicken chow mein was totally tasteless so very bland the noodles / chicken has to be the worst iv ever had,the sweet sour chicken wasn’t that much better either So to the Binn it went were it belonged So the evening ruined thank you China Chef.

Normally excellent but this time sweet and sour hong kong style chickrn ball chips were all bland. Normally 5 star. Tried here again 2024. Problem sweet sour hong kong style chicken is in plastics better to be in foil when i got home sauce was setting

Good food and good size portions

Prices have gone up again and the food is very hit and miss compared to years ago. Always seem to skimp out on sauce with some dishes.

I cannot tell you how bad this chinese was. I used to use this Chinese years ago when I lived in Woodford and it was always brilliant. What I had tonight was possibly the worst Chinese I have ever tasted very bland, tasteless and the crispy chilli chicken was the exact same sauce used to top the special chow mein which was supposed to be bbq. Really disappointed and would not use again

Food is good but even after reading off what we ordered forgot to put the salt and pepper chips in. Can’t go back to collect them or get any refund either

Terrible customer service and very variable food quality. This place used to be good, but now they seem little worried about the quality of the food or looking after their customers. Although I have not been an ultra regular customer, I tend to order the same thing from the menu. However, for some reason they have decided it now not available (although they did not say why) and so I had to order something else. It was not good - very bland and unappealing. In terms of customer service, the woman on the counter did her best to be professional and polite. However, others are rude and dismissive. There are lots of other better outlets in Plympton which I will use in future, and I suggest you do the same.

We recently moved back to Plympton and bought a house, we have been trying to find a good Chinese Takeaway, well tonight we tried the China Chef, well what can I say, we were looking for a good Chinese, but the China Chef is an absolutely outstanding Chinese, everything we loved about it, the kitchen buzz, the atmosphere, so many customers coming and going, the phone ringing off the hook and the food, wow absolutely delicious. Don't take any notice of the negative reviews, looking at their profiling they are serial complainers wanting something for nothing and just complaining for the sake of complaining. Our go to Chinese Takeaway now, no more searching. 5 Stars all day long. Well Done China Chef, you are a credit to Plympton, we will be back very soon for certain.

Food was ready in < 10 min after I ordered. Still hot after cycling home for 1.5 hrs. Chicken curry and veg curry were absolutely perfect. Awesome taste. Will come back for more! :)

My go to Chinese, always on time and always found the food yummy!

We ordered a Chinese as a family normally its nice this time not only did it turn up cold the food tasted disgusting even the chicken wasn't like it usually was. The chips well they were cold and brown in colour and awful tasteing let alone not even getting a full bag. They have the cheek to put there prices up to what they have but quality of the food has certainly gone down hill. Will never order from here again!

Love this little gem of a Chinese! Been going here for nearly 20 years, started with my dad and now go with my own family! We are now in Ivybridge and a shame they don't deliver there but definitely worth the drive. Amazing fresh food that is tasty and cooked to order. Means there is a slightly longer wait but definitely worth it! Though not as busy as we have had in other places!

Worst meal I have ever had, chicken chow mien. Chicken was like rubber and tasted revolting. I took it back, the member of staff said it was cooked but it was a different supplier, when I complained of the texture(hard to pull apart/ chew), I was told to leave. The girl taking the order waved and said goodbye, then the male came to the door, told me not to come back again and slammed the door on me the waved. The replacement was just as bad, and shows none of their meat is cooked fresh.

Set meal for two is not worth the money. Bland and tasteless. Batter on chicken balls far too thick meaning it was soggy on the inside. Spare ribs good though.

The past few years this place has been abit hit and miss. Sadly recently for me it's been more miss than hit. Last 3 times I've been the rice, chicken and chips were definitely not fresh. You can tell when food is old and has just been reheated. It's as if it was left overs from a previous day. Ive been a Customer for over 10 years but unfortunately i wont be coming back. Tired of the gamble.

First visit in a few years,taste OK but portions small ie,chilli beef / beef/ broccoli compared wiv other take aways.

Was very nice but the Hong Kong chicken sweet and sour was a bit chewy.

Used this place previously & not had any issues.But visited Mon ordered special curry/ chips/ rice / chop suey.It was awful.Chips looked & tasted as if they had been reheated in a microwave. Lumps of chicken in both meals were rubbery making it inedible.Rice was ok.Sorry but wont go back

Went for a family takeaway for Grand sons birthday. Don’t remember ever having a worse Chinese meal ever in my life. Every dish was bland and tasteless. There has to be better in Plymouth.

Now I love china chef but my fiance and I have tried to have Chinese from there on a few occasions and have not been able to get through on the phone. The first time it kept saying the line was busy, I phoned for over an hour before my partner drove down to find the place shut. This has happened twice but on different days and at different times. Although the menu states it is open 7 days a week, it clearly isn't but there didn't seem to be a note in the window. When I did get through (after an hour of continuously phoning) on another occasion, the delivery took a long time to come but the food was lovely. We then tried to phone last week and yet again the same thing happened again. If they are going to shut the shop I think they need to have a message on the phone to tell people they are closed to stop this.

Best for me in Plympton I travel from the other side of Plympton good food and portions not ping ping microwave.

Fantastic food. I've tried most Chinese takeaways but find this one the best and I live in st budeaux ... well worth the short travel along the parkway.

The best Chinese takeaway in Plympton and for miles around I'd say. Very well priced and there is rarely a wait, even at peak times. You can park right outside too if you are picking up yourself. Also unlike a lot of Chinese takeaways you can pay by card. This is a regular of ours.

I find the food here exceptional. The staff are always friendly and they receptionist always has a smile on her face and is polite. Would definitely recommend

They have lost a customer. They got my order wrong, when I came home I called them to tell them it was wrong then they told me that that was what I ordered as if I didn't know what did I fancy eating. The lady that took my order (ginger with glasses) kept saying that was my order. Not helpful at all.

My favourite Chinrese Takeaway, so close to where I live and the food is always of excellent quality, extremely tasty! Although they are always extremely busy when I go along on Saturday evenings to collect my weekly meal from them, they are so proficient in the way they prepare and serve the food that I never have to wait long. I highly recommend them.

Our first time here for a takeaway. The food was hot and tasty. Had the Duck Curry, enjoyable but Duck was fatty so won't have it again. Family enjoyed Chicken Noodles, Sweet &amp; Sour Chicken Balls, &amp; House Special Curry. The servings were smaller then we were used to, but will still use again.

Great food with a wide and varied menu . I've been coming to the China Chef for years. The staff are friendly and welcoming and do their best to provide a quick service. The Chefs are always happy to accommodate changes to your order for those that have allergies or likes and dislikes which is fantastic for my family as they are very particular about certain vegetables. I've never had a bad meal here and I would highly recommend this Chinese takeaway.

Always use this one. The food is very good, always hot and the staff are very pleasant. Favourite dishes are crispy chilli beef, Singapore noodles and thai chicken. All excellent.

In the centre of a cluster of small businesses on a post war housing estate and close to a school. Average menu quality and priced, polite counter staff and fairly quick. Functional and unremarkable

Been using this takeaway for nearly 30 years and it always used to be good but in recent years there's been a bit of a decline in quality and quantity. Our most recent meal will be our last from this takeaway. Too much salt made the whole thing virtually inedible. We've never thrown so much of a meal away. We'll try somewhere else in future.

Really gone down hill, used to be one of my favourite take aways in Plymouth, really bland and no flavour, noodles and onions are burnt. Will be going elsewhere.

I have to head down to Plymouth quite often over the winter months and I dislike sitting in the hotel restaurant on my own so I tend to pick up a takeaway. Found this takeaway to be fairly good, food is always cooked quickly and not swimming in grease. Would recommend their salt and pepper chicken.

Oh dear was expecting great things from this place after reading the reviews.Boring menu unexceptional food and not that cheap either. Won't be coming back here again. If you want to see how good a takeaway can be go to "The Peeking House", Plympton. Here you will find an extensive menu, good value for money and well cooked food. Need I say more!
