Very friendly staff, lovely food.

Had the Sunday roast of trio of meat, meat was lovely, but no mash swede and no crackling, plus the roast potatoes were not roasted enough and food was served warm, so had to get it reheated. Otherwise, the service was very good and friendly

Festive menu food was ok but nothing special Service was reasonably friendly.

Great food ( hot) lovely waitress, great atmosphere I had the bangers and mash and my friend had the cheese & bacon burger

Pleasant friendly fairly quiet pub.

I have given it less for atmosphere, mainly because it was really chilly in the restaurant to be honest. There was a log fire, but they really need to light it earlier it put on some heating. It was very cold. Food and service good though.

I attended this pub whilst en route to Dover in August. Me and my family were treated appallingly by a male waiter. I’ve never experienced such awful customer service. The manager apologised on his behalf at the time. I cannot stress how awful this experience was. I believe the waiter was called Joe.

Booked a visit with a friend last night for 7pm. Arrived & were given menus & shown to our table. Sat for a while, nobody came to take food/drink orders. Eventually a lady came over & explained in very hushed whispered tones that there was a health & safety issue & that they were unable to serve food. We left & went to the nearest alternative pub where they told us that this had happened every single night this week (they had picked up many disappointed walk-ins who had booked at The Chiltern Hundreds) & looking at previous reviews I can see that it's happened on different days-obviously a bigger picture! Disappointed that if there was an issue we weren’t informed via our email booking & that we were left sat waiting like lemons for some time before anyone bothered to inform us of what was going on! No offer of free drinks or maybe even a discount on food for a future visit. Have visited many times before but not sure i will be again.

Turned up Sunday at 12 for our family Sunday roast booking to be told the kitchen was closed due to health and safety. An email alerting us was sent out at 11.42, after we had left to drive to the restaurant. Very disappointing indeed… won’t be returning.

My partner and myself met up here with two friends from Northern Ireland for lunch. Two had scampi and chips , two had pie and chips, quite nice, followed by dessert of Apple Pie and custard. Very nice.

Good enough atmosphere with nice food and excellent friendly service. Our host, Gemma, was superb and nothing was too much trouble. Recommended!

Absolutely dreadful food! Chicken ciabatta a joke! Rock hard ciabatta roll and preformed anaemic chicken in big cubes! (I always thought you had sliced chicken in a roll or sandwich!) Along with the 2 inch slices of tomato was impossible to eat! Chicken tasted awful. The pub was freezing cold and seating dirty. Don't waste money going there.

My wife and myself have passed the Chilton Hundreds, hundreds of times, so for a change we thought we would give this pub a visit and sadly we were disappointed.!! The pub from the outside looks very inviting and when venturing in, is how it appears from the outside. Warm, inviting and comfortable. The young lady (Sharron) who attended our table was very pleasant and accommodating, offering advise on both the food and wine menu's, so those of you viewing this review can see why I gave a 5 star rating for service. So Sharron,,, whilst our visit to the CH wasn't how we would have liked it to be, you did your best and for that Pauline and myself, Thank you.!! The reason for the "Food 2 Star" rating.!! I ordered the Beef Rib Sunday Lunch meal which was awful.! On the menu it says the beef is cooked for 7 hours and I can quite believe that, because whilst the meat was well cooked but lacking in taste, the bone protruding from the middle of it looked disgusting. The "roast potatoes" looked anemic as though they had only seen the oven for a few minuets being sodden in cooking oil or cooking fat as was the Yorkshire pudding. Both tasted of oil or fat.! The vegetables had been diced(as that which you might give a child) and were soggy apart from the parsnip which were whole but when I bit into it, it wasn't aldenta', it wasn't cooked.! Sadly I gave up on the meal after about 5 minuets. The is no excuse for poorly cooked food.!! No I didn't bring this to the attention of the waitress until my wife finally gave up on her Pork Sunday Lunch meal due to it being similar in cooking terms as my own. My wife did say the tastiest item on her plate was the pork crackling. So all in all not a nice meal. When I spoke to our waitress Sharron she was very apologetic and I think quite embarrassed about the situation but she did recompence us for both main meals. My wife and myself do like to look on the bright side of life and the day was not entirely lost because the wine (a New Zealand sauvignon) along with my wife's desert the Apple tart with vanilla ice cream took the sting out of the poor meal. Lovely food and excellent service, I got a free bottle of wine and also pudding for my birthday which was brought out with a candle on it, was so cute and delicious! Me and my family have been coming here for generations and will never stop absolutely beautiful little pub!

We were visiting Maidstone for the day and ended up popping in here last minute in the evening and although they were showing fully booked, they managed to find space for us in a lovely seating area. The pub has such a cosy feel, perfect for catch ups with friends/family. Shirley went above and beyond to ensure we were looked after the whole time we were there, it was so refreshing to see a smiling face, she couldn’t have done more for us. A true credit to the pub! Food was also absolutely delicious.

We called in for breakfast on the way to Leeds Castle. Food and service were excellent. We will definitely visit again.

The food was awful, the service was very bad . Having said that they were very under staffed and the chef had not cooked in the kitchen before. People were leaving and others were sending their food back. We were not charged for anything which was the only good thing.

I was happy to find seabass on the menu as I am a bass player although I am more halibutish in nature but they had run out anyway. I settled with humming to myself using my fork as percussion instrument to keep the musical vibe alive. Great vegetarian selection

Stopped in for a quick drink on the hottest day of the year. Only there for 30 minutes, but it looks like a nice pub. Big car park with 2 electric car charging bays, nice selection of drinks but no beer garden to speak of. It has some tables outside, but they are on paved area next to car park with a view of a roundabout and road. Might go back and try the food at some point.

We visited today and our waitress Shirley was great, very attentive and friendly 10/10 for service. Kids portions were also great sizes for the price.

We're regular diners here. The service is always first class from Kevin and his team. Shirley couldn't have been better!

There are pubs that serve 'pub food', then you have the Chiltern Hundreds in Maidstone. A great pub atmosphere but with the benefit of fabulous food, I mean seriously good food, from a menu offering a diverse range of culinary delights. The service is really good. We have been there a couple of times whilst travelling to and from the ferries, each time really hungry. Each time we have been served by motivated and polite staff who really make you feel comfortable and indeed welcomed! A big shout out goes to Shirley and Gemma, for explaining the specials, making recommendations (that were perfectly on the mark too) and basically cheering us up after a long day of driving. We left feeling relaxed, definitely not hungry but willing to return. Give it a try, the ladies make the experience better with their openness and friendliness. See you soon. DX

Last minute night out, waitress was great and food was amazing.

Inside is nicely decorated. The menu is limited so I assumed all 4 food options would be good. I ordered the grilled sea bass, which came out either boiled or barely baked. I took one bite and spit it out. Planned to just eat the vegetables but the potatoes and other veg were mushy and tasted like nothing. They kindly didn't charge me, since the meal wasn't eaten at all which I appreciated but otherwise yuck.

An ok experience at best. Clearly understaffed but the beer was good.

Our last minute stop as we headed home. Found the pub by chance. Had the warmest of greetings by Kevin who soon put us at ease and guided us through the menu. Great meals and I was pleasantly surprised by my Garden Plot Medley which hit the spot perfectly. Top job and will return if anywhere near again !

The British baked cheese dish was great, kids steak menu option fantastic, service mediocre. The rest was below par for the price, expectation and comparison to other pubs in the area. My burger the bun was hard, fillings poor,chips overcooked. Largecoje zero was majority ice. My wife's seabass was well overcooked, and desert undercooked.

Came in here because it was close to the hotel in staying at. Ordered the belly pork (my go to favourite pub food) it was outstanding. Everything about it was delicious

Visited a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday with family to celebrate son's new job, it's local for us and have been a few times previously. Unfortunately on this occasion the food was underwhelming to say the least .. limited menu/items unavailable, measly portions. For those who opted for the roast, once you removed the giant Yorkshire pudding on top the meal underneath was basically a child's portion with 3 tiny overdone roast potatoes! We were met with a frosty tone when we tried to express our disappointment and ask for more. Poor value. Sadly we're unlikely to return.

A nice peaceful pub/ restaurant. I just popped in for a drink and found it a very pleasant pub with a calm atmosphere. There is music but it's in the background,enough to be heard but not obtrusive. There were some diners there and their meals looked good when brought out. If you're just a little peckish there were some small bite bar foods available too! There is an outside area there. The pub has a decent sized car park

We booked in advance for a family get together. Unfortunately all of the veggie options (and there are quite a few which is one of the reasons we chose to eat here), except for one had sold out which left 2 of our party with very little choice. Our server Shirley, who was very obliging tried her best to sort something and eventually got chef to source a vegetable tart for my Daughter. I ended up choosing the seabass as I will eat fish and I have to say I was extremley disappointed and underwelmed with the portion size of my meal when it arrived. My husband thought I had ordered a starter as it was so small and I was thinking that my potatoes and vegetables were arriving separately but alas no ... that was it all sadly sitting in the middle of the plate. To say I begrudgingly paid £18.49 for 7 mouthfuls if that is an understatement. This was all I ordered so thank goodness for the bottle of red wine. I regret not taking a photo now. Sad to say that after previous enjoyable visits to this restaurant I don't think we will be in a hurry to visit again anytime soon. *********** UPDATE *********** So after responding to the owners reply to email so that they could contact me personally, I have sent 3 emails over the period of a month and received NO response whatsoever. Infuriatingly it seems that the owner is quick to reply to a negative review with an offer of contact to appear eager to rectify but dosn't actually follow it through 😡

We popped by for a cheeky date night meal last night, and visited Chiltern for the first time. We were sat in the wing to the right of the car park entrance and had a lovely lad and lady servicing this area. We were greeted by the guy, and sat near a young family, at first we didn't realise that the female server was just that, as she was so friendly and interactive with the kids, we thought she was with the family. The little boy spilled his drink, without any fuss or bother, she whipped in quietly tidied it away made sure they were okay and got on with seeing to everyone. Our starter arrived, we both had the mushrooms, and the flavour and quality was amazing. Once we finished the guy took away our plates, and a decent digestion time later our main course arrived, we had the belly pork and mixed grill. We have eaten in a few places where our meal has felt rushed and we have our main course before we have even finished our starter. Not at Chiltern!! We weren't waiting ages, but we definitely were not rushed. The main course was flavourful and well cooked. I can honestly say that this is one of the nicest meals I have had in Maidstone. Everything was fresh, cooked to order and hot on arrival. We will definitely be returning and will see this as the place to go for future family celebrations. Well done guys, you made our night.

Fantastic staff and great food!

Called in here on our way back from Folkestone for a quick dinner. The food was mixed: we both really enjoyed our starters (chicken strips) which was a large portion, and were lovely and crispy and piping hot. We both had the salted caramel sundae for dessert which was great. The mains were a let down. The sea bass was OK but the portion was really small, 3 or 4 halves of new potatoes and 2 sprigs of broccoli with a few peas. The steak and ale pie was huge, but mostly very dry pastry with a small amount of filling, and the mash and veg were pretty sad. Our waiter, a young man, was lovely and friendly, and other staff were welcoming.

There's a lovely waitress working here who often accommodates my friend and I for a last minute lunch, always ensuring there is enough room for the pushchair and that we know where the facilities and baby changing etc is. We're always greeted with a warm welcome and a friendly chat, we thoroughly enjoy our lunches when this lady is working.

Went with a friend for lunch. The food was very good and plenty of it. Didn't have to wait ages for our meals to arrive even though they were quite busy. Staff were courteous and friendly. Checked if everything was ok. Nice atmosphere for a lunchtime crowd. No complaints at all and would go back for another meal and recommend to others

We had a lovely family meal last night. The service with a smile was particularly appreciated by the extremely hard working guy called Andy. He was very attentive despite being left on his own to run the whole pub. Thanks so much for being so accommodating.

Andy was warm, friendly , and very hardworking ; he was the only person serving for the bar and the floor with multiple tables. He made sure everyone was well looked after and was efficient but so lovely to Speak to. We were a table of 10 and he looked after us wonderfully. Thank you Andy!!

Think we walked in the start of WW3- service was bad and the atmosphere tense. We left after some kind of ruck started in the kitchen with shouting and staff walking out and swearing.

We came here last night for a family get together, family came down to us that we don’t see often due to distance. The seating they provided for 11 of us was 3 separate booths all back to back. So we was all completely separated and not even able to look at each other. It was explained on the booking it would be over 3 tables but didn’t explain that we would all be back to back in booths. That put a big downer on our evening instantly. Where we was then on separate booths, they treated us as if we wasn’t eating together and bought all our meals out at completely different times. Whilst one table had eaten their mains and being offered their desserts, our table had literally just received our mains, which ruined our opportunity to actually mingle and speak with one another. When we chased up our mains with the waitress, 2 managers came over. The man seemed very apologetic and offered to sort something on our bill at the end. The woman manager gave nothing but attitude to us when we explained that waiting over half hour from our starters was not acceptable whilst the rest of our family had finished their mains. And we was still waiting on ours. She told us they had a full restaurant that night… so basically they cannot cope and run things smoothly when they are fully booked. At the end of the meal when it came to paying, my partner spoke with the manager, who seemed decent to begin with, then got my partners back up by saying “we are not McDonald’s, we don’t provide fast food” which I take that he was insinuating that we only eat in fast food restaurants. The food wasn’t that great at all, very much standard. Nothing to rave about at all. The chips tasted stale and not fresh at all. Barely ate mine. Overall experience was extremely disappointing and will not be returning in future.

Lady serving was very nice, however food was average and wait a little longer than we thought it would be compared to how busy they were.

Very disappointed with this place, long wait to be served, long wait for the meal which was extremely small portions. Staff were extremely rude and abrupt I wouldn't recommend this pub at all and I certainly won't be going back!

Use this place fairly often but on this occasion it was a let down. Firstly, the service was a bit chaotic and then, much worse, the mains were served with missing potatoes! Fixed but not a great experience.

This wasn't a planned supper. We were just passing through, but we're pleased that we popped into the Chiltern Hundreds. I think the last time I visited here was in my teens and that's a loooong time ago now. It benefits from very friendly service and a lovely ambience. What I mean by that is that the place was full, but easy and relaxed. There were no louts at the bar joking too loudly with each other, no "Oi, Sammy-boy, what you drinkin'?" hurled across the room, no foul language and no cackling groups of teens. Instead, there was a nice, mixed crowd who were all keeping themselves to themselves. How joyful on a Thursday evening. The young lady who served us was pleasant, courteous and smiley. We chose a starter and main each. The food was delivered quickly, cooked well and tasted absolutely decent. I wouldn't say it was special, but you don't often get special in a pub. The beer choice was perfect for us; Peroni and Madri. All in all, a good experience. By the way, I think we grabbed the last parking space and I'm not sure if there is overspill parking anywhere.

Felt tired - but i might be out of step as it was very busy

Cant even give service 1 star, manageress was rude and unhelpful in everyway no idea how she still has her job. 7pm on a Saturday and 4 items on menu weren't available which is ridiculous, obviously short staffed and half full so no atmosphere. Will never be returning !!!!

My child ordered the kids pizza which was served cold and clearly not cooked. Even worse is it is quite obvious that it's a Chicago town Pizza! The rest of the food was average. Service was great just a shame about the food.

We visited during the day as a couple and had a lovely meal . The staff were helpful, friendly and the meal came quickly but hot and delicious. Thank you to the chiltern . We will return.

School dinners Probably one of the worst meals I’ve had for a while. The service was great, the young waiter was very polite and friendly. Explained the menu and options. The drinks arrived and it was down hill from there. The sirloin was inedible, I think it was microwaved to reheat.

Good meal, only things would say the crispy chicken burger didn't look anything like the photos advertised. No cheese snap or bacon in it. Chocolate fondant the chocolate sauce didn't actually melt the chocolate dome.

Food was good although some portions a little on the small side but well cooked and tasty. Would have given 5 for service as our waiter was lovely and very apologetic for the slow service as they were very busy and only 2 waiters covering the whole restaurant. Decent atmosphere as very busy. With a few more staff this could be a good restaurant.

Really enjoyed our girly evening last night at the chiltern hundreds! The food was delicious! I’m gluten free and Steve the chef was 10/10 in making my food super yummy, and it looked amazing! The chefs never get enough praise, so thank you Steve! Wine was wonderful and Kevin our waiter was brilliant too! All in all, a great evening and experience.

Disappointing experience understaffed due to poor leadership from the top. My chicken burger was a chicken nugget in a bun, overcooked and dry, my wife's fish was also cold. Had to order my drink twice as they forgot first time and it took about half hour for them to bring drinks orders. There are so many better pubs nearby, would recommend you don't go to this place.

The food was very nice and the service was excellent. We booked one of their dog friendly tables in the restaurant and the staff brought a bowl of water and treats for our dog which was a nice touch.

We enjoyed a very nice dinner for 5 people in a sweet ambiance, the food was good and served in generous portions. Also our waitress was very kind.

A lovely family get together (parents and grandchild) at this friendly pub with great food and a nice wine selection. We were lucky enough to try the new menu and it was fantastic! I went for a special of an asparagus and cheddar pie (vegetarian option) and my nephew braved the Lamb Shank Shepherd’s Pie which was pretty sensational! Shirley was a lovely waitress, getting everything right and super efficient! A lovely lunch!
