Don't waste your time. Ordered a wrap and a toastie both advertised to be served with crisp. Chose to ADD a side of fries for £2 and was served a pancake flat store bought white breaded "toastie" with a small basket of unseasoned fries. When I got up to ask where there the crisps were as no one had bothered to check was everything OK with our food/offer condiments etc, I was told its company policy that the fries replace the handful of crisps.... Paid at the counter and was asked how was our meal, argued with my feedback that it was petty and poor service. Won't be returning for food that makes wetherspoons looks michellin star quality. Much better options nearby.

My daughter visited after she broke up fro school with her friend today, she sat down with her ice cream and whilst waiting for her hot chocolate to arrive was told she had to leave and go out side as they were not eating, They were given the table by possibly the manager ( in own clothes as described by my daughter) Staff member that told them to leave had short brown hair and it was tied up on her head Poor customer service and a shame as we like to support local businesses but when treated like this we won’t be returning

Stood at the ice cream window for 15 minutes to be ignored by all members of staff who clearly saw me stood there waiting, especially the lady in the bandana with dark hair who saw me multiple times. I was with my 2 year old twins who clearly didn’t like being stood there for so long so eventually ended up leaving. Absolute joke and so so so rude definitely won’t be giving them my custom again.

Went here especially to get the cheese and onion quiche which is absolutely delicious and so cheesy. I have this every time I visit. Came with a nice salad and coleslaw. Only let down was the jacket potato which seemed reheated as the skin was a bit soggy. The coffee was lovely. The service was great and didn’t have to wait long for my order.

I can't help but feel they are getting complacent. The service yesterday from the lady wearing a bandana, dark hair was blatently rude!Asked to order quickly, as other people were coming in, then arrived with dirty glasses! Then dirty spoon with my pot of tea!quite rude when asked for ice. Then told a friend "ask someone else for your cake! The food wasn't great either! It was quite dirty yesterday too!Been here several times but yesterday was definitely the last!Such a shame when you want to support local, yet its like slowly watching them going downhill and can't use them due to making you feel rushed and unwelcome from the minute you sit down!

Firstly we arrived and the glasses were cloudy and dirty! And secondly the waitress was unfriendly and unapproachable...I asked for ice and was answered in a cold Manor.. My friends piece of cake turned up after a long wait and overall the waitress looked like she got out of bed the wrong side... Forks dirty and overall a wasted morning!! Save your money folks!!

£5 for a ham and cheese barm, it came with one slice of each and they were like the packet rubbish from the supermarket. It would have only been worth £5 if it had 4 pounds coins stuck in the small amount of butter.

The food was very nice with good size portions. The only downside, and it was quite a significant one, that unfortunately marred the whole experience, was that it seemed to be the base for a local group which were all wearing t-shirts talking about prioritising people from the area, as well as similar posters on the wall. As someone, travelling into the area to eat there, it all felt a bit insular and unwelcoming to be honest. Not helped by (hopefully merely coincidentally) being seated away from all these people, near the door, which kept being left open by the ones in the t-shirts (they kept coming in and out constantly), frequently leaving the baby exposed to the wind rushing through. Food and service = 9/10, Atmosphere 1/10 (probably much higher if you were part of the group). Overall, good food but not a place to travel suited to people from other areas.

I came upon the Cow Shed by accident whilst picking up an ebay buy in Horwich. I had a feta wrap, which was accompanied by a separate bowl of really fresh salad. At £4.95 it was a bargain feast. My coffee was delicious also and the staff friendly and helpful. DO NOT be fooled by the tiny exterior. it is huge inside. There is a lovely selection of deserts and home made cakes, which I didn't have room for. (not like me at all) So a repeat visit is needed to test them. I cannot wait!!!

So much so , I went five times in the week, four times for lunch and once for breakfast. The sausage and bacon barm was divine. The presentation of the food is excellent. It’s such a cosy environment, and the staff make you feel so welcome. I live in Germany , originally from Wigan, and I miss the Cowshed. I will be back , no doubt about it . Basically went to this place in May (not interested in covid related responses) and ordered 3 paninis I was shocked at the price of over £16 pounds when the "chef" appeared at the window and I quickly realised its the same person who shops in aldi every Saturday morning to get supplies for the week, the salad was ready mixed in a bag and came with soggy crisps and the bread was absolutely rock solid! Never again will I go to this place nor would I recommend it to anyone! Nightbar on Leigh Lane is nice and that quite frankly is a sh1t hole......

I only wanted a quick bite to take away; took ages to take my order & receive my 'barm'. Cost approx £3, for a small oven bottom muffin style barm, with pitiful amount of filling. Salad cream tasted cheap too.Upon opening, there were hairs and 'fluff' on the top which immediately but me off, i just picked at the filling which was tasteless. Everything seemed cheap, and put together slap handed.I only get a short lunch break, so by the time i got back to my workplace, i didn't have time to go back to complain for it to be rectifiedWould definitely NOT recommend this eatery.

Went for afternoon tea to celebrate a friends birthday. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. I have been before for lunch and always had a lovely meal. However, I didn’t enjoy the afternoon tea. There was only one sandwich per person, one tomato and a minuscule quiche, about the size of a two pound coin. The rest was all cakes, chocolate cake, ginger cake, cream scone and Christmas cake. As I didn’t organise it I am not sure if we could have had more savoury options. So I only ate the sandwich, quiche and scone. For me - A very expensive tea - £12.95 a head! This did include cups of tea or coffee.

Here again.. I can not recall how many times my girl and I have been here. The many and varied dishes on offer of various cheeses.. Mediterranean fares and artisan breads are a sheer delight.. I have to say though, my favourite dish is the cheese and onion quiche. Not watery or solid as a house brick but fluffy and so full of flavoursome mature cheddar infused with acceptable slices of fresh onion is superb to say the least.. I sometimes go and promise myself to order something different but the lure of that wonderful cheese and onion quiche is more than I can refuse.. Relaxing and a very friendly atmosphere.. almost artistic surroundings.. you can even take your dog too but under always under respectable control. For the children, an huge selection of ice creams of high quality plus amazing knickerboker glories that my grandaughters love... If you're in Horwich or calling over for long walks on the beautiful moors... call in..

Our family enjoyed the visit after a long walk up to Rivington Pike. I ordered the Omelette and asked for some bread with it. The Omelette was delicious but VERY small for the price and the bread was just a couple of slices of white bread with a slight smear of what looked like margarine. I thought it might have been nice to provide some crusty bread instead. Only a little detail but I would have given it an ‘excellent‘ review otherwise.

This cafe really is a classic having been constructed out of an old butchers shop with a shed at the back which held the cattle for slaughter. Children are really well catered for here with high chairs and appropriate cups and plates etc. I have always enjoyed the food and find it easy to lunch with my son and his pram. There are changing facilities too! The only issue I have had is that my pram doesn't fit through the front door. I have to angle it a little. It is very narrow and it is a small cafe so getting around with a pram is difficult but they are very accommodating so it is worth trying.

It had toffee ice cream which had lots of lumps of cinder toffee in and then chocolate ice cream again with lots of chocolate chips in it. There was a layer of brownie and then a swirl of chantilly cream, chocolate sauce, Oreos and a flake. It was visually the business and the taste didn't disappoint either. Visited here on quite a few occasions and the owners always seem very friendly and welcoming often remembering your name which makes it feel like visiting friends .Food good with relaxed atmosphere. The light afternoon tea can be had for £7.95 for a plain sandwich with side salad and crisps, scone with jam and cream and a cup of tea or coffee . My only observation would be to have fruit scones as an option as the ones provided are cherry ones which may not be to everyone's taste . Great place to come and unwind when in Horwich or just pop in with the kids for ice cream.

We came to eat here just because I have fancied it for a while and heard good reviews. We turned up without booking and managed to find a table in the court yard at the back. It was extremely busy. I ordered our food from the till and waited around 30 minutes for it to arrive. The food was very good and good value for money. A panini with salad and crisp cost £4.50 which I thought was very good. They had a good selection of ice cream, ice cream sundaes and 'freakshakes' luxury milkshakes for the kids to choose from. Will definitely be returning.

We went to the barn @ Chill at the Cowshed for a friend's baby shower. The venue was excellent with a car park (public) at the rear. The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them. The room holds about 40 - 50 people and would be suitable for children's parties, small christenings, baby showers, etc. We had afternoon tea, and there was an option to have a glass of Prosecco for a couple of pounds more. Lovely choice of dainty sandwiches, mini cakes and scones. This room has a licensed bar. On the downside, it is upstairs and therefore not suitable for the infirm or for people with limited mobility.

Lovely food, family friendly. Childs food brought out earlier than ours, which made eating out with a toddler easier.

With its mis-matched furniture and crockery this place has the potential to be quite charming but although this is a popular local eatery it has lost it's charm and is now more shabby than chic. The décor is dated with masses of dog-eared fliers pinned to the planking walls, concrete flag floors that look like they haven't seen a deep-steam cleaner in years, dusty bunting and faded window decoration. The toilet is lit by one shadeless 40w low energy bulb and the toilet seat is loose and doesn't fit the bowl. However it does seem quite popular with the locals. The food is average and expensive for what it is with lots of paninis and the like, and there is also a large selection of ice cream on offer.

Locally, there is always a massive queue outside another fairly well known ice cream parlour on the A6 just outside Chorley. The people come from miles around to experience the ice cream. It's a long time to wait so I suggest you try here instead. The quirky interior, great snack menu, coffee's and now Prosecco and beers set this apart from the other places........did I forget to mention the ice-cream? Sorry - there is no comparison. Don't just take my word for it, it really does take some licking!

Came here in a group of 8 for a regular monthly lunch with friends, it was also my birthday. Lovely quirky surroundings and great atmosphere. Food was great and had plenty of choices. Staff were very pleasant, having a bit of banter with us as we were a 'lively' group and could have a laugh with them. Wasn't rushed even though it was extremely busy and had a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours. Would definitely go again

We came a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. Please look at my previous review. We came last night with a mrs Rainford ….. she has reviewed before….. however things didn’t go quite as they should. Our starters went ok if a little slow and then we started hearing whispers of problems in the kitchen. We felt that we were falling behind in the pecking order, then one of the waiters came and mentioned a problem but not what. Our mains arrived and on first bite me and Diane noticed our fish was cold so we called over the lady who seemed to be overall in charge and she took our plates away. So we sat back and waited. Our partners finished their dishes and shortly afterward a female waiter came and took away all the plates and dishes, bearing in mind that nobody on the table had had a sweet. About this time I got up and went to the toilet. When I returned I was told that 2 plates of lamb had been brought and taken away because neither of us ate lamb. We hadn’t been asked that question. We weren’t approached afterwards. When Steve went to the till, he was told there was no charge and could they wrap up the sweets. Steve felt it was time to make an exit and just left to meet us at the restaurant entrance. We all know it’s a training kitchen and the staff have to learn but we felt that there needed to be more guidance . We would welcome an explanation. barrym48@btinternet.com 07794195920
