Fish banging but chips naaaaa...

I ordered scampi And they gave me 3 ginger bears instead as a substitute. (Facepalm) Then they told me that’s what I ordered, when I know that’s not true as there’s not 3 people in my house. I told them they must of made a mistake repeatedly and they refused to do anything.

Great everytime, nice staff and good food in a lovely environment

This used to be best chip shop around but wow has it gone down hill, I’ve returned several times since the decline as we all have off days but sad to say it’s my last time. My saveloy was very very hard had to return it, my fish smelt funny just couldn’t eat it as wasn’t right and the attitude because I went back with saveloy was not very professional to be polite. Unfortunately didn’t realise about fish until i got home. £45 of food but could only eat the chips. High prices very poor quality. Gutted

Average place but bit expensive compared to other local places basic fish and chips for 2 people is around £40

Unfortunately my last two fish meals have been very poor. The cod was very wet which means it was frozen and not fresh. This also means it was tasteless. The chips were not freshly cooked either. Not cheap either at £17! Sadly I will not be eating from there again.

Visited with friends. We all had the same, haddock in matzo meal with chips. Both the fish and the chips were not only large but pipping hot. The only issue was the matzo meal was too thick

I can't believe this place has gone so far down hill we ordered today the fish was over cooked the burger tastless and the chips brown and over cooked they looked like they had gone cold and re-heated I'm really sad to be writing this reveiw and could have left it I know, I'm hoping the owners will read it and think about it try to improve we have had food here so many time the food no more, it was so bad we throw it in the bin and went some where else and bought again would I recommend Big fat no ! Waste of money

This used to be a first class place. Sad to say, not any more. Re heated chips, re heated fish, we will not be back. Once bitten, twice shy. Absolutely appalling.

We had a really nice meal from here tonight, fish was excellent and delivery was super quick. Only complaint was from my wife who thought that the mushy peas were not up to scratch, but she is a very fussy northener As far as Im concerned mushy peas are the work of the devil so who cares

Below average fish and chips (and cheap/mushy chicken nuggets that make McDonalds seem like the epitome of breast meat). Extremely below average manners. The middle-aged balding male who wears a pen on his ear, and who's hairline seems to be leaving his head as fast as their ratings appear to be dropping, is an ill-mannered buffoon who does not belong in any public facing industry. After ordering over the phone and attending to collect, I presented my card to which he said minimum was £15 (order came to £12-something). A very pleasant elderly lady behind the counter (who which the only star of this review is dedicated to) told him just to take the payment as she could see I was holding a baby in my arms - he then then flippantly remarked "you should carry some cash on you, yeah!" and reluctantly proceeded to take the payment with a scowl on his face. What an imbecile. This was quite a while back, and I regret not walking out and taking my custom elsewhere, although I haven't returned to the shop since - neither has any of my family. However I walked past today and saw him through the window, which reminded me to write this review. Plenty of other fish and chip shops with both a much better quality of food, and much better service. Wilsons fish and chips (located in Chingford) deliver to Chigwell via UberEats, and the relatively new Manford Fish & Grill on Manford way is just a couple of minutes drive away - both are FAR superior in every aspect.

Another superb friday night fish and chips. I have had fish and chips from here since they opened , and a few other bits. Only once have I had an issue that was the size of the chicken. Delivery is never a problem. Think some of the reviews are moaning just for the sake of it. Yes it's expensive, but what isn't these days. I happen to think it's worth it.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was fantastic. Nevertheless, I do feel like the prices are on the higher side when compared to similar places.

Had one of the best take away fish in a long time . Great size cod that was cooked really well and Snow White . Chips big size portion and really nice tartare sauce that seemed home made . Will definitely come back !

This take away is usually good, but today was probably the worst plaice and chips I've had in a long time. The batter was overcooked and broke up as I was sliding the fish on to my plate and there was not much fish inside of it. Surprising really because they normally excel in their portions. But this was not even worth a fiver let alone the £16 I was charged. Plenty of chips though. I doubt if I'll be going back.

If I could leave zero stars I would. Called to preorder food. All ok. They said they’d cook it for me fresh to pick up. Got there 10 mins early. chips wrapped in front of me. Fish already boxed. Asked for salt and vinegar on the fish, lid was slightly lifted to do so; but I couldn’t see the fish and thought that was odd in itself but thought I was being suspicious without reason. Paid and took the food. Chips were average. Nothing to write home about but not awful either. Fish on the other hand actually made me wretched took one bite, started to chew and swallowed a tiny bit before spitting the rest out as it just didn’t sit right with me. You’ll see from the photos, it looks like it has been fried more than once, and by the time I ate it the batter was soggy. No idea how long it had sat sweating in the box for before I got it. Absolutely vile. Curry sauce had cinnamon in it. Not a standard curry sauce. They shouldn’t highlight that before selling it to you. So I paid £15 for a handful of chips (cause I asked for a very small portion; though still got charged full price). An absolute disgrace. Don’t know what they got their stars for but definitely not for the kind of food they served me tonight. Disgusting food. Went in the bin.

Very bad experience. Fish overcooked, mushy, some parts hard and chewy... tasteless. Price? Definitely overpriced! 2 * for chips, very good and decent portion and for tartar sauce.

Disgusting customer service, wasn't allowed to use a knife to cut the sausage because it was only for restaurant customers! Was spoken to very rudely when I asked for a tissue to wipe the vinegar as the bottle was dirty. Doesn't look like it had been cleaned for a long time as it was filthy! Staff rude and aggressive who told me not to come back in front my children.

Excellent fast hassle free takeaway service, plenty of choice, the food was fresh and unlike some I could mention, was cooked properly. Definitely return again! 👍 Returned this evening for some rock 'n' chips, although prices seemed somewhat high, the meal was fresh, hot and enjoyed.

Ordered through Just Eat for collection by accident and contacted the restaurant who rectified this and swiftly arranged for delivery - food came hot and fresh, very happy customer! Thank you :)

Well! If you don't mind a little drive and paying slightly more this place is worth it. Friendly customer service in a clean establishment where you can sit in and eat quality fish & chips. Portion size and freshness .... I recommend the skate fried to order...

Soggy fish ! Lazy people behind the counter didn't even bother to make fresh on the spot cod fish and chips and gave instead a soggy fish with soggy chips ! I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there ! Taste of the batter wasn't nice either !

Not sure if this place has changed hands.. used to be great. Now very unfriendly and prices seem gone up to extortionate levels. It's £14 for a fish!... £14!!!! You definitely know you're in Chigwell when fish and chips is set at hyperinflated prices like this. Worst still it was extremely greasy.

Awful in every way. Rude staff kept us waiting over 1hr for freezing cold fish and chips. Couldn’t accept the order as food was cold. The delivery driver acknowledged food was cold, however just took food back with him. Any reputable company would have said we will leave the order with you on the house however all we got was leave a review and hung up. We were regulars however would never return even if you paid me.

My local, much loved fish and chip shop that I've been going to for years disappointed me to the point that I won't be going there again. On my last visit the once white flaky fish was grey and soaked with oil and they gave me a bag of scraps in place of chips which I only realised when I got home.

It was the tastiest fish and chips I've ever eaten in London. The staff was very warm and attentive. It is certain that hygiene and quality are given utmost importance. I definitely recommend it for a healthy and delicious choice.

Not worth the money portion size absolutely horrendous..

Have been ordering delivery service since September. Never been disappointed with the haddock and chips it is excellent. We ordered again last night and because they felt the haddock was small (which is never the case) they put an extra haddock in the delivery. This was a nice gesture but not needed as the portions are very generous -but thank you.

Usually decent experience but last visit left a bitter taste. Specifically asked for hot fish but handed over something cooked from well before. Soggy and tasteless. Plus attitude of staff left a lot to be desired. Plenty of other fish bars around.

I tried Chigwell Fish Bar for the first time and was very impressed. The large cod was cooked just right with a crisp, thin batter and the large portion of chips was huge. Very good value. I ordered online from their website and collected from the shop. The service was very efficient with a free tub of tartare sauce. I will definitely go there again 10/10.

I don’t know how to describe this place. Visited today with my dad and I loved it so much. They drinks everything was neatily placed on the Drink Isle. The chips are in amazing massive portions. COD and Rock is so delicious. I eat about 2 every time I come lol. The spicy sauce and there handmade sauce is top notch. The new owner of this place is much better than 3/4 years ago. Today I visited @chigwellfishbar and ordered a lovely large Cod and Chips with 2 tubs of Tartare Sauce and a can of rubicon Mango. On entering the shop I was greeted by such friendly staff who cooked the fish and chips as I waited - and I watched them do the batter and everything which was lovely and The interior of the shop was also really nice. And the shop also extremely clean and covid safe. The fish is delivered every single morning fresh from billingsgate and cooked fresh once ordered so nothing is actually laying around pre cooked which is really nice ! The fish itself was absolutely delicious and is definitely one of the best I’ve had. The cod was absolutely beautiful so soft and the batter so lovely and crispy. The cod was huge which was lovely as many fish shops won’t actually give you a large cod when you order one - you’ll usually get something smaller for the large price. The chips were gorgeous and cooked to perfection and lovely and crispy and the tartare sauce really complimented the whole meal really well. All in all a fabulous fish and chip shop, amazing food, lovely staff and a great location in the middle of chigwell Essex. Thank you so much Guys .. Pre booked fish and chips, but shouldn't have bothered! Turned up at appropriate time, huge queue. Although pre booked had to join end of the queue. Eventually got to the counter to find out my order wasn't ready and they only start to cook your fish when you turn up. Absolutely no point in phoning beforehand. Given 2 stars as the fish is good when you eventually get it!

Rude Staff who did not have the order ready despite our online pre-order. We pre-ordered online using their website as we have been for at least a year. We were told the meal would be ready to collect at 18:00 when we arrived we were told its not ready and we had to go to the back of the queue which was outside. We specifically pre-ordered so the food would be ready and we were completely dismissed, I feel that the server also suffered from some racial prejudice in the way he treated us not even listening to us properly. Pre-Ordered to the food online for it to not be ready and to be told “it doesn’t matter go outside” a very rude business.

I pre-ordered my food on their website and was told it would be ready at 18:00. I arrived and explained that I was here to collect my order. The server didn’t acknowledge me properly and said “it doesn’t matter, it’s not ready, wait outside”, really bluntly. I felt very uncomfortable and it was as if I was being racially prejudiced. This place has no idea how to talk to customers or conduct their business.

Chips were very nice and pie, but saveloy looked like it was cooked up 4 times, all crispy, plus salad was very basic for the price only lettuce cucumber n tomato. Customer service is appalling. There was a missing drink from my order. When I called them, the person on phone was acting blase and as though he didnt really care. Said he would drop it off the cost of next order. I said Id rather not cos not sure when i order again so he said hed drop the money round or drink. Well of course it didnt turn up. My first order from them. Wont be ordering again. Everyone makes mistakes but to not bother to rectify them and not value the customer is something else.Im disgusted how i paid for drink I didnt receive or got refunded for.

It's not cheap, but it is good and you get a lot. I reckon 2 could manage on 1 fish n chips.

I celebrated my PhD yesterday in this delicious restaurant. I am glad to say that it was a terrific evening and the restaurant was undoubtedly the reason for the successful celebration. The team contributed in a splendid way, the food was yummy and my guests were so glad. We shall definitely come back again for more joyful events. thanks very much.

HAD to leave a review! It's been years since I had chips And fish this good. Just moved nearby and thought we would try out these and were not disappointed. Nice and square and soft and just greasy enough - exactly how they should be! The guys working there were really friendly and cheerful. Wish I had discovered this place sooner! This place has one of the best fish and chips. A bit on the pricey side but well worth it as the portions are huge.

Too much batter in the fish and the quality of the fish and batter is poor. The chips taste stale and as though they were cooked days ago. Not a place I would recommend at all.
