The Victoria Tavern in Epping Forest

What a delightful pub, lovely staff, really helpful and friendly , they had my favourite drink and a nice little garden to sit in to drink it, will be back to sample the food next time

Fish and chips were great. The lamb shank was sensational.

As well as having to get up with a required inexistant table number, amiability doesn’t seem to be part of the service. It seems to be an inconvenience for this restaurant to take orders. Mcdonald’s does it better. The food is just an english average, except half the menu isn’t available. The fish isn’t dry to say the least.

This is such a friendly place and the meals are excellent and great value I go at least four times a month

Always love a Sunday roast beef dinner here after a walk in the Forest with our dog. Disappointed they're not doing Aspall anymore. Some background music would be a lovely compliment.

Very good food and large portions

My wife and I went for a light lunch and chose this venue because it had a good sandwich menu. We were made to feel very welcome and served straight away. We chose tuna and mayo sandwiches served with salad and a shared portion of chips. Often one finds that bread is not fresh and salad wilting and unpleasant. Not in this case! The bread was thick sliced and fresh, and the filling tasty and generous. Salad was fresh with tasty dressing and the chips were as good as we have eaten anywhere. To add to the experience it was great for someone of my era, elderly and old school, to find a pub selling a number of high quality real ales. Quality and good value. Well done to all at The Victoria Tavern. We will be back soon. Norman and Vicki.

Have been a customer for almost 20 yrs. Visited twice in last 2 weeks and sadly both not good. Ignored at the bar, locals came in and were served 1st. No big deal really. Bar staff rude . Bar sticky as were tables. Staff outside kept asking if our glasses were done even though we both had half a glass left. Won't be returning

I have been frequenting this Pub for about 50 years, and regularly have Lunch on a Sunday, so I feel I'm more than qualified to give my latest view,concern and opinion. My wife and I took a very close friend in for lunch, they had the beef, I had the Lamb shank as usual. The plates arrived fairly quick, but I we were somewhat taken back that the food was warm, and the potatoes were nuked, BLACK and soaked in oil, it was a mess, even a car crash. The Lamb dish I thought was lying around in the kitchen for ages, I did bring it to the young ladies attention,but alas nothing was said or done...I didn't want to cause a fuss and didn't want to ruin the experience albeit, dreadfull. I then asked the lady may I order some drinks please, No I mustgo to the bar myself??. After a couple of visits to the bar I asked for the bill, north of £100 PLUS £10 SERVICE !!! WHAT service there wasn't any, ?????.despite that I left the young lady £5....never again !!. For 3 days after I left messages for JAMES to call me,sent a few emails..Do you think JAMES theowner responded !!!!..No he couldn't give a FIG, shame on you.quite ignorant and poor manners I'd suggest. Your lucky to have such lovely staff,but they are not lucky to have you. I'll be back,

OK. They have done up the outside area, with a huge canapy and fairy lights and loads of tables and benches so its a nice area to sit. Inside smelled bad and was a traditional old fashioned pub. Food OK- big portions, not too expensive. Service friendly.

Great vibes, great beer, great pub. Not been to this pub in over 30 years. Decided to go there before eating at Quindici, glad we did. Pub was packed with a great mix of youngsters and old uns like me. The beer was superb, had my 3 favourites, Landlord, Ghostship and Bombardier. I will come back.

Went here as other plans fell through Have been here before Busy place on a Friday but with a good vibe. Food great, five different dishes everyone very happy Thoroughly recommend

Had a lovely lunch but where we sat inside all we could hear was the kitchen staff shouting and swearing. The language used was awful and some would say offensive. The chef even came out shouting at his colleague. I had prawn sandwich with salad and coleslaw. I actually had to look for the coleslaw.

Used this place numerous times lovely unpretentious pub with a very welcoming atmosphere dog and child friendly good selection of beers and the food is excellent definitely recommend this place. Thai monkfish curry was amazing Hard working excellent staff too well done to all the staff

Much reduced menu, not the same as advertised on their website. Sticky tables on arrival that hadn't been wiped from previous occupants. Surly waitress who clearly didn't want to be there with her eye rolling. Both burgers (@£14 each) came with burnt and blackened brioche buns, more eye rolling when we requested non-blackened brioche buns please. Scampi (similarly priced) way overcooked and outer casing inedible (dark brown/black.) New brioche buns came back untoasted - clearly too much trouble to toast them or chef is incapable of cooking anything without blackening it. This made burgers soggy along with the excess burger sauce inside. Son spilled a drink, we apologised, waitress said she'd clear it up. She didn't so we continued the meal with half the table even more sticky. Had got to the point where waitress' attitude and how she made us feel and general incompetence of chef to cook basics meant we felt meal was beyond repair, plus we didn't want to ruin a family meal any further. Noone bothered to ask if our meal was satisfactory until after the bill was paid. When faults were raised nothing was done to recompense, instead a vacuous and insincere "Sorreeee". Only three desserts on the menu, two of which are chocolate. Poor food, poor customer service and food way overpriced. Waste of £67, will not be returning and will spread the word.

Asianpleasure101, as one of the kitchen team at this establishment i can wholeheartedly guarantee your issue with the pub has absolutely nothing to do with your skin colour, nationality or beliefs. The fact that food was still being sent out after you were told we had stopped serving is because they would have been food tickets put up on our rack BEFORE THE 14:30 DEADLINE and has only just been freshly cooked and sent out, and has nothing to do with who you are as a person. I would strongly suggest you step back and think about it before throwing out wild accusations that could finish a business. We have staff AND many locals of every different walk of life, and heritage who we welcome every day and provide a great service to, and you are doing them all a major disservice with your wild, jumped up accusations based on no facts whatsoever. We look forward to WELCOMING you back in the future for an enjoyable meal, between the hours of 12-2:30 & 6-9.

Went there to try to get a meal as it was the closest place to get a meal before hiking with the family to Epping forest. Got there around 14:20. Waited by the sign that said table service. 2 of the waitress ignored us. So just sat and asked wife to go in and check if we can be accommodated. Sat down hoping to get lunch before hike. When the waitress came over we asked to see the menu. She then said that the kitchen was closed as it was 14:30. Asked if she can give us any kind of food? All she did was looked at me with a blank stare and without saying a word. Told her I will have some snack and a pint of juice she then repeated the order. Another waitress came over with a tiny bottle of apple juice and a crisp for £4.20, asked the other waiter if there was any other place to eat as we were starving, she just said that there could be restaurants by the high road. Asked what time they will be serving food was advised that they will re open the kitchen at 6pm. As we were about to leave the table next to us just had their food delivered to their table. And we were like we thought the kitchen was closed. The waitress then said that was the last food. As we were leaving for the forest another food was delivered to another table. Not sure if our attire (was we suppose to wear a shirt and slack with leather shoes to hike?) was not good enough to eat at this pub, but this experience really put me off. Not saying that we felt alienated as we are the only non white family that was sitting there. Not sure if the waitresses was having an off day. Anyway just to let anyone else coming from London who is probably not white or have the British accent, don’t waste your time. Eat at the restaurant near the station, Zizzi or other place which are more welcoming.

This was our first visit and will be our last.Staff did not welcome or acknowledge us.We placed our order and got served. That was it.No-one noticed when we left or said 'bye'.It was obviously for regulars.Food was ok so will give 1 star for that.

Headed here as I was looking for a family friendly pub with a decent beer garden. This didn’t disappoint. There’s plenty of seats outside (and in). The pub is adorned with flower baskets and is very attractive. The food was very good quality and delicious.

We have used this pub for years the food is excellent value and the beer is good with a nice beer garden. This is an old type of pub with no music TVs or slot machines which suits the clientele gets busy early evenings and when the weather is good

Excellent food - best to book a table as the indoor area is small. Outside there is a beer garden where it is nice to sit out for a meal or drink in Summer. Never been disappointed (except not being able to get a table when not pre-booked)

A nice pub with a good selection of beers, although I haven’t tried the food. What put me off what the unmistakable smell of vomit and very humid atmosphere when you entered. Not particularly appetising...

Great evening on a quiet Saturday evening at the Victoria Tavern with friends. We were served the 3 course Christmas menu which was delicious. The girls working there were very friendly and efficient and we had the pleasure of chatting to the landlord James for nearly 2 hours. A proper traditional pub just off the main throng of Loughton town centre serving good food with a smile. Recommend for the food and a warm welcome. Thank you James

On an uncharacteristic warm October afternoob we emerged from Epping Forest badly in need of refreshment and sustenance. What a fabulous little pub. We sat outside in the garden and rested our weary bones. The pub was busy but we were served quickly. Delicious food and a lovely atmosphere. Good portions and not too badly priced. Can highly recommend.

Popped in her before dropping our niece to the station. Great pub and fairy busy for early Sunday evening. A good selection of beers, plenty of bar staff and a friendly service. Will be back

I’m fussy when it comes to eating out but the lamb rump and prawn and monkfish curry is about as good as you will get anywhere. We will hopefully be moving to the area and will be here at least once a week!

No doubt about, as a pub it’s great - lovely little garden and great atmosphere. We felt let down by the food though. I had a Mac n cheese - it looked like a kids meal - see the photo attached. I kinda expected more for £9.50. My husband had the green chicken curry, as did the other people sharing our table. They all had to resort to Tabasco !

Have eaten here several times & quality of the food has been excellent. The Sunday roast beef is very good - one of the best I have had in a pub. The fish & chips are very good - the batter is lovely & light & the fish fresh. They also have daily dishes to choose from. The staff are friendly, helpful & nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommended

Great local pub, good atmosphere, excellent food and summer drinks. Highly recommended. Ideal with a big beer garden that is sunny and loads of greenery. Not a place for kids as there is no playground - proper grown up pub with a good feel to it.

Remembering this place from when I was a child, playing in the lovely pub garden, my mother took me here for lunch. The pub has a nice atmosphere and doesn't seem to have changed (not that I really knew the interior in the old days!) With an impressive menu board, the food is good and not overpriced. There was a nice choice of draft beers on tap too.

18th century, very warm, quaint, and cosy pub.. the inside decor kind of transports you back in time.. daily menu is on the blackboard.. me and my wife shared the fish pie since we had our starters in another pub.. coming to the fish pie, it was simply great.. it had salmon, cod, prawns.. simply yummy.. I’d an ale what cheers was great as well.. highly recommended

This is a pleasant pub, at which we had lunch part way through a ramble in Epping forest. It is very well kept, the food was good and the staff friendly and efficient. My only caveat is that I thought the prices quite expensive, although this seems to be the norm in the London area these days

Love the look of this place. Very pretty setting and a real vintage feel to the place.

I visit the Vic quite often, sometimes just for a drink and occasionally for a meal.

Following a family gathering we needed somewhere to have a meal together for 11 (8 adults and 3 Children)

This is our local! They have a great outside space good for families. Traditional food with a good local atmosphere. I love this pub.

Tanto la comida como la cerveza son muy buenas, pero en esta época del año es el jardín y ventana cajas que son el verdadero atractivo. Los colores!
