Ches's Trattoria in Richmond upon Thames

Visiting from Montréal. Recommended by family and friends. This place was cozy and felt like home! Antonio and his son’s welcomed us with open arms. The food was just like eating Sunday lunch at Nonna’s. I highly recommend it.

Only opens for Italian dinner at weekends and rest of week is a cafe serving exact breakfasts. You can BYO for a modest fee. Lovely staff & great food.

We came here for breakfast quite a few times. Really great staff they're very thoughtful and welcoming. There's always interesting conversation going on, I love this cafe. The food is always top notch and will definitely keep coming back for more.

I went there with a big group for a surprise birthday. They were so amazing: the waitresses were so nice and accommodating despite it being a big group and the food was wonderful. The arancini and all the pizza and pasta I tried was excellent.

The Vulcano is the best. Ask for extra chilli oil and hot peppers.it’s a killer

Went for my brother’s Birthday. Amazing food and great value for money with genuine family service. A cafe by day ( not tried though my brother & his friends rave about the breakfasts ) and a trattoria weekend evenings. Check out the website to be sure. Operates a BYO for booze should you wish with modest corkage.

on holiday in London this pizzeria was recommended to us and I must say that we had a great time, apart from the very good, light and exquisite pizza compliments to the pizza chef, it seemed to be in Naples with the very nice helpful owners and they welcome you as if you were in their home, clean and welcoming place !! for those who want to visit Naples in distant London this is the right place

Warm welcome, staff very friendly went for pizzas Saturday night and they have the best pizzas around. Real authentic Neapolitan pizza the new pizza chef really knows how to bring a taste of Naples to the heart of St.Margaret’s!

Spotlessly clean, fantastic, fast and friendly service and the best cooked breakfast we had in years. Every item was spot on. We were visiting an attraction, but this place is so good we would come back just for the food.

What I was assured are "butchers sausages" are actually the most disgusting, cheapest of the cheap, bulk bought sausages. I couldn't even eat it. There's no meat in here and it actually kinda tastes like fish! An outrage at £3! If they're selling this in the mornings what manner of produce are you getting in your Italian dish in the evenings?! Bread was decent so 2 stars

Delicious pizza, we were a large group and everyone enjoyed the pizza they ordered! I had the tiramisu for desert which I definitely recommend! Nice selection of wines, and a good atmosphere. Staff were great and happy to make suggestions! I would recommend to anyone in the area

Warm welcome and great food ! Tony is an excellent host and a maestro in the kitchen . Starters of whitebait , calamari, prawns and wedges of pizza were so yummy! Linguini scallops was to die for ! We were there with little time to eat (and there were plenty of empty tables) and they offered us all only the 3 course set menu at £37.50 - so not value at all as we were going to watch the rugby we would not have time to eat it. They must have known we would not have time to get through 3 courses and service was slow and when we had to leave to watch the rugby they refused to take any money off for the deserts and coffees not had. In my view poor value and service and only poor to average food. Suggest try somewhere else in Twickenham.

Very friendly staff, all Italian including the chef. The Crudo Pizza was very delicious & base made naturally with no salty taste of the base & I loved the crispy edges with the sweet tomato base topping - really enjoyed the pizza.

Ches's have been an affordable treat out with the BYO policy in the past, that has now changed and you must buy from the limited wine selection they offer, obviously a new business model to bring them in line with others, but the cheapest bottle of wine is £20, It is after all just a Pizza/Pasta place!!!, and frankly it was very poor. What would have been nice would be to have a "House" wine at a reasonable price range (£10-£12) that would suit those with limited funds, along side the expensive wine, as not everyone in the "village" has unlimited funds, or are they trying to compete with the posh eateries like across the road from them?, The food was good as usual but nothing special but unless a change in wine price comes in, we will have to think long and hard about further seated visits and just do a take away and drinks indoors with a bottle from Tesco at £5-£10, I know you don't have to drink, but that’s all part of a night out.

Super tasty food (my wild boar tortelloni with mushrooms & chilli was delicious) and great service, all wrapped up in a wonderfully welcoming family restaurant. Highly recommended.

Molto bene! Delicious food!! Reminds us of the trattorias in Sicily! Highly recommend trying the seafood linguines if you love your seafood. Family host you like you're in their front room! So friendly and welcoming.

Dinner last night with friends at Ches’s and have to say we were all delighted with the quality of the food. This is an informal trattoria, the owner / chef is Napolitano and the food is authentic Italian and simply delicious! We all had pasta with seafood, mine was particularly good, full of prawns, fresh cherry tomatoes and a hint of chilli. We all finished with an afogato…including a dash of Amaretto di Saronno. Yum!

Our favourite trattoria! Delighted that canneloni was on the menu and linguine cesare never disappoints. Super Chianti choice to accompany. Waitress Mariana was pefectly attentive. Always an absolutely enjoyable meal and experience at an amazingly affordable bill😊

Beautiful food, lovely staff and great value

Having been a fan of Ches’s for many years, tonight’s visit was a huge disappointment. The food as always was good (even though they brought the wrong main course) but the service was poor. We mentioned to the waitress that the wine we ordered was very poor. She disputed this saying she had worked in many restaurants and it was fine. As the end of the meal we asked to speak to the chef (owner) who was extremely defensive bordering on the aggressive. He said it was a DOC wine and cost over £10 a bottle to buy wholesale, but retailing for £20! The next table also commented on the quality stating it was akin to a €3.99 bottle. He asked us why we didn’t send it back and we said we thought it may get better with food but it didn’t . We left half a bottle plus the 2 poured glasses. Sadly his attitude has made this our last visit to this restaurant. The price of the wines is way above the price point for a basic Trattoria which was its absolute charm. They seemed to have lost their way from the original concept.

The food is always very good and we were looking forward to come back after lockdown. Delicious, we loved the calamari, spaghetti vongole and the Chef’s pasta. What a treat! Great service too, a lovely evening.

We have been visiting Chez for years and absolutely love it. Such a charming concept of relaxed, authentic Italian food with the bonus of bringing your own bottle to enjoy with it. Recently this is no longer and you have to purchase their selection of wines. Not really a fan of that and it kind of takes away from the usp of the restaurant. Otherwise, food is excellent.

If you like paying premium prices for left overs come here. Not what you expect for extortionate prices. Portions were small, And given the wrong change.

Even though I live in the area, I had never actually gone in to eat here, however during lockdown I have had two deliveries from them and the food has been very good on both occasions. We have had pizzas and pasta dishes and the food has been tasty, well flavoured and delivered on time, It's good basic Italian cooking and well priced, when it's open for dining we will def go in.

I have been in Ches’s many times with family and friends and always left very satisfied of the food, service and prices , real value for money Now it will have to do only take away service because of the government indications and Tony will introduce e custom “ built “ menu which he tells me will have many new dishes. Well while waiting for normal times to come back I surely will continue to get my Italian food from There sure to receive as always smashing food and professional service not to forget the real value for money

Love the atmosphere of this family run trattoria. The food is just scrumptious and authentic Italian fare. My favourite is the seafood linguine. The portions are generous. You can BYO and if you forget theres an off license a few shops down. make sure you book tho as its not always easy to get a table

Great food excellent value and it’s a BYO as well what more could you want. Never disappointed each time we go it’s a nice place to take your family and friends.

Best bring your own booze restaurant. Such generous portions, delicious authentic Italian food. Ginormous pizzas (I would recommend sharing). Really chilled atmosphere, no need to dress up. Just a chilled and relaxed experience with excellent food and bringing your own booze works out to an extremely affordable price!We live locally and have been many times, never disappoints!

Ches's is extremely friendly with a great atmosphere. The pizzas are great and my wife loves the seafood pastas.

My husband and I have been regulars here for years and Tony has always made us feel like family. The pasta is fantastic, perfectly cooked to order and the pizzas are the best in the area.

My first visit to this friendly trattoria. We started with calamari fritti which was cooked in a light, crispy batter, it was so tender. Loved the dip that came with it. Followed this with spaghetti gambero, three large grilled prawns butterflied, with other large prawns with spaghetti and tiny tomatoes in a brandy sauce. It looked good, smelt good and tasted wonderful. It was a choice between this or the scallop linguine. If you like pizza then this is the place for you, huge selection. Make sure you book to be sure of a seat.

We have been coming to this place on and off for many years. If you want to eat like Italians, I would highly recommend this place. Generous tasty portions of food not to be missed.

I have had pizza here and it reminds me of home so good it was. Delicious dough and well garnished. Reasonable prices too, so cannot go wrong.

Very poor experience tonight. Rude Chef. This is a local place to me, somewhere I’ve eaten breakfast at countless times (usually very good) Having been recommended Ches’ for dinner by another local, me and my partner decided to go tonight to celebrate our anniversary. It’s worth noting that the friend who initially recommended, had also only yesterday advised that it had recently gone down hill. However as I’ve been wanting to go for a long while, we made a reservation anyway. I ordered a pasta dish which was, aside from anchovies, vegetarian. I asked the waitress for the dish to exclude anchovies as I was vegetarian. The dish arrived and the first whiff I got was of the ocean. It certainly contained anchovies, whether or not the anchovies themselves or cooked in the same pot. The smell, and the taste (partner tasted) confirmed it. That smell and taste is not to be mistaken. While my partner tried to eat his extremely average Bolognase, I asked the waitress to take mine back and please swap for a salad with which she agreed. 2 minutes later I was confronted by the chef in front of the packed and very cosy restaurant- he loudly and aggressively demanded that the dish contained no fish and I must have been mistaken by the strong flavour of olives and capers. As a 32 year old, I’ve managed to gain an understanding of what olives (strong tasting or not) and capers taste like. In order to save anymore awful embarrassment and unwanted attention from the whole restaurant I told the chef we would just leave. We paid the bill in full and left having not eaten anything but the starter. Not one apology from the staff including the guy who has served us on many occasions before for breakfast All in all very poor show. I would have expected better service from a local place serving local customers. Having had a quick look at the other reviews I can see that a Tom has also had experience of a rude and aggressive chef (1yr who). I’d recommend he change his attitude in situations where a customer isn’t happy with the food. On the plus side the waitress was sweet

If you like a snuggly place where you can feel at home, and at times you might get the chef (Tony) making you an alternative offer thru the kitchen hatch, this is the place to come for a tasty meal. If it's not in the menu, they'll try to make it for you. I can't recommend it enough.... Keep it up Tony!! Joe Esposito

I’ve been eating here since my paper round about 45 years ago when Chez ran it .Although I’ve moved around the world since I always come back and Tony still the captain of this superb ship cooking the best breakfast and dinners .A true gentleman and attentive staff make sure you get a proper meal fast and delicious 10 out of 10 Thanks again.

This unassuming little restaurant (a cafe by day) serves the most delicious pasta and pizza. Bring your own bottle, and it means you can take your favourite drink and not have to spend a fortune. We usually got with children (10, 15 and 16)and they all LOVE the food - my nephews always get excited when they come to stay with us because they want to eat here. A couple of days before, we had eaten at Pizza Express which was a massive disappointment. You'll never be disappointed here! Our waitress was also brilliant.

Staying in Twickenham for Super Saturday. Ches’s recommended by local shopkeeper for breakfast. Did not disappoint. Full English breakfast cooked to perfection. Extensive menu. Friendly and efficient staff. Set up for a great day at Twickenham. Highly recommend.

Please note the critical reviewers are either a bit thick (can't spell) or perhaps should get their sesquipedalianism looked at! Ches's is just great! Honest, delicious, freshly prepared cuisine. Anything on the specials' menu is always fantastic, particularly any seafood dish. BYOB makes an enjoyable couple's or family meal very affordable. Consistent quality and great service mean we're regulars! If you haven't booked ahead you may not get a table. Surely that says it all...

The good we got today was awful, the pizza had quarters of the toppings the other pizza looked like sick on a plate .. the chief and staff last time we ate in where rude and not friendly.... never again.

The quality of food was reprehensible. I tried to hold the food in to pretend that I enjoyed it because the staff were looking at me.All I can see is that they are in an inextricably imrboglio and this needs to be amended immediately. The pizzas were so soggy and revolting. My lasagne was so odious that I forced myself to enjoy it in front of my family (unbeknownst that they themself were suffering but they kept a poised pococurante face like me)

Went there recently. It's a cafe by day and a restaurant by night ... and this works! Food is great although not a huge menu, and you get to bring your own wine which means no fancy wine prices to push the prices up. Very good value for money indeed, and great food.

I had a toast sandwitch nothing special very plain but the place is clean and not to busy the staff are friendly

Group Christmas meal - large variety of delicious mixed starters, and loads of it. Mains good and tiramisu dessert luvvverly! Remember this is a cafe-style place, not a posh restaurant that St Margaret’s folk are probably more used to - staff happy to help but not obsequious. Bit cold if sitting right by the door!

Awful. The chef is belligerent and so rude. After telling the waitress that my wife was pregnant and unfortunately couldn't eat parsley, we were shouted out of the restaurant by the chef when her dish arrived with a large amount of parsley cooked into the risotto. Will not be going back

After several good meals here, we were informed after being at the table for an hour and having all ordered ( 4 of which were the chefs special ie, seafood pasta) that there was absolutely no fish left at all......no apology......no explanation........so informed that you need to order something else. Despite the fact that the majority of the menu includes fish.......choice was limited. I order the Canneloni to be told that this was no longer on the menu and hadn’t been for months! Again, no apology.......the waitress was unbelievably rude and didn’t give a damn.....let alone an explanation.

Really enjoyed a lovely evening at this local restaurant with friends. Food and service was great, very tasty, good value and we loved the Bring Your Own Booze! Highly recommend!
