I have come here for over 20 years and it was always really nice, and this is the 2nd time in 6 month I have been and the food was terrible. I thought 6 month ago was just a blip, so gave it another chance yesterday (31st) and it was even worse. I had a mixed grill, the food was just about warm, sausages barely cooked, steak well done not medium rare, chicken rubbery and the cheesy garlic bread is clearly microwaved because once it set it could be used to smash the table in half. I think most of the food was microwaved to be honest, such a decline in quality which is a shame. To top things off, I was sick last night and still feel ill today, I have no doubt it was from eating that meal. I will be taking this further!

The place is always clean. The staff go out of their way to welcome you and provide a fabulous eating experience. As a Coeliac they accommodate every custom request with no fuss, nothings ever any trouble. The food is fit for a king… Cooked perfectly and tastes amazing!!!! Eaten here a fair few times and always been delighted!!!! One of the best eating places in Derbyshire!!!! Highly recommended!!!! Thank you for always making us feel special and important!!! Went in bank holiday Monday with my family and we normally love the food here but I got a mix grill and it was warm not hot, warm. My sausages were really under cooked which they did replace but it just wasn't at the standard we usually go for. After food I went to the toilet and it just stunk of piss, it was horrible. Full of cobwebs as well, I know pubs are supposed to have some character but thats not good for a food place. Don't know what was happening that day but it wasn't the place I used to go to for something to eat and I won't be going again after that.

We Visit quite regularly for evening meal And food is always good. Staff friendly and never had any issues service fast and staff always polite

I went to the the cheques on Sunday, the 25th of August my sister and I go in there a lot and spend a lot of money on drinks and and meals I asked for a Bacardi and a splash of Coke because my sister drinks Jack Daniel’s and you have not had anything for a month disgusting so my sister had Bacardi I told assistant too she put too much Coke in it she threw it on the counter at me and the problem is at the moment at then cheques you have Not Got enough manages In control of them I know two managers there are very good, but the rest are When the managers are there, The two I have just said The new ber staffdisrespect customers I will not be able to going in there again. My sister has gone with my brother-in-law for 45 years. I will say again disgusting.

It was pretty much to be expected for the money

Food was tasty, and got served quickly. Waiters and waitresses were very friendly!

Lovely meal, amazing service Abby working on the bar helped my younger sister when ordering her ice cream, she came back to the table asking me to leave a review because in her words the lady at the bar was nice and helpful. All staff are very welcoming as always.

Was OK at first as my little boy is only 20months after and hour or so bigger kids came in and it got too busy pushing him over think certain days or later in afternoon should be arranged for older children so little ones don't get hurt personally I think 8-10 year old looking children are too big for these facility's

I'll give these guys a 10 out of 10 for customer service. We had an issue with a couple of the meals. We raised our complaint and without question the meals were replaced with fresh meals. We were even given a complimentary bottle of wine for the inconvenience. You cannot argue with that now can you.

Definitely recommend the Sunday roast.It was great. Friendly staff & really fast service. Great place to visit for lunch.

Good food. Staff helpful. Area round table clean. Like the local old photographs about the area. Was unable to do any swaps within meals. Toilets need updating and doors painting. Good sized car park. Would return.

Come here regularly and the beer is always good, food is great value but I think it what stands it out from other pubs like this is the staff always remember me and they are so friendly. Well done team!!

Not my favourite place! Having been a few times before, it being quite nice, cheap pub food we went again. Had some new items to the menu so tried a few! Summer cocktails - strawberry Colada, photo on the menu looked lovely, full of fruit, umbrella and a pineapple glass. Came in a Pimms jug and 2 coke style glasses with the biggest ice cubes you'd ever seen and was told 'Sorry we're out of the main rum but I'll chuck some of this in'. Tasted alright, but like a milkshake, not a pina colada. Starter - camembere with chicken and garlic ciabatta. Arrived looking rather disappointingly. Chicken nugget style chicken pieces definitely over cooked or warmed twice & so hot couldn't eat. The bread was definitely microwaved and chewy. Main - final straw! 2x Korean chicken burgers with onion rings, coleslaw with salt and pepper fries. Again, looked really disappointing. Firstly the fries looked as if they had orange flour on them - not salt and pepper. I dusted most of this off. The chips were again, second cooked, very brown and crispy - but not nice. The staff were nice enough, checked in on our food and unfortunately, because we were on date night it wasn't really appropriate to complain so ate what we could but left disappointed. I did see a staff member, chef i believe, through the door eating a handful of chips with his bare hands. Not ideal really! The music they played was 80s cheesy which was fine, I overheard it was the 80s night. Apart from the music the place wasn't 'dressed' for it if it was. Not going to rush back again.

Has been ages since we visited last food as good as ever the staff were better and extremely friendly - the building is starting to look tired and in need of a refresh Not a lot of changes except the menu, and the daily specials recommended are the Tuesday sizzling special at £8.50 is very good value

Had a lovely burger lunch last Friday. A happy meal for us first time there. Cappuccino here is better than that in Handy Pick for me, stronger coffee taste. Great deal - buy one

Wacky Warehouse Party for our 4 year old and whilst I had confused matters and the prebooking area wasn't the easiest to navigate, the day was a great success. Great food, lovely little party area with throne for the birthday girl, ice cream for afters and then a party bag each... plus 90minute soft play, all for £10/child. Would definitely go again and recommend.

Had a meal here as a group of four haven't been for a while service top notch ,ordered the burger sizzler combo steak done to perfection chips cooked perfect ,one of us had halloumi fries said they were the best he's tried in a long time, one attempted the quadzilla burger just about finished it definitely worth the price left no room for desert ,last meal ordered was a basic burger and fries and i was not disappointed . Recommend this place for a desent meal at a decent price.

Staff were lovely, food was fast, maby that was the problem. All 4 meals we had , well let's put it this way, pretty disgusting. Not sure who is ro blame the cook or the chain. Will not be going back to a Hungry Horse.

Food a little cool as we had gone for a meal deal. So don't think they get as much priority as full price items. But just about the right amount of food for me and my friend. Not over faced. Good value but could be warmer!

I was in Derbyshire visiting a friend for the weekend and we decided to have a Sunday lunch here, which is a place neither of us had ever been to. I didn’t realise it was Mother’s Day so when I popped in on Saturday to ask if they had any tables available I wasn’t surprised when I was told that they were fully booked. However, Abby (the lady I spoke to) said she would have a look at their bookings, and despite their busy enough lunchtime session ahead, she was able to find a table for my friend and then showed me where it was asking me if it was OK, which was great! I also found her to be very polite, friendly and approachable and I felt immediately at ease in her presence. On our arrival the next day I began mentioning our booking to a colleague of hers who greeted us on entry. Abby, who was beside him but was busy on the phone with a different query, let him know how many of us there were and where we were sitting by signalling to him our table, acknowledging my thanks with a nod and effortlessly continued with the call she was dealing with. I ordered some drinks from the bar, collected our cutlery, serviettes and some mustard from a self-serving station and noticed that a barman saw that my hands were full and then bought our drinks over to the table as I got there – nice touch, man… Thanks! Our meals came promptly and both tasted delicious. I had added the ‘Go Large Deal’ to my meal order (for just £2  extra) and the serving was huge. I struggled to finish it and felt 5kg heavier afterwards, and I didn’t feel hungry again until about 10am the next day! Ashleigh brought our meals out and I found her to also be equally and effortlessly as efficient, polite, attentive and friendly as Abby. Throughout the meal my friend and I had a couple of moments to briefly share a little time in passing with each of them as they asked if we needed more drinks or if we were satisfied with our food and during these moments we had a bit of banter and witty repartee that felt natural and fun to be part of. Overall, I found the conduct of both of them to be perfect and excellent examples of displaying good ‘Guest Relations’ – Having this skill is such a necessary ability for all staff of the Hospitality trade to be well versed in as it is something that no machine can achieve despite its programming to be merely efficient or competent. Although my review particularly concerns the above mentioned ‘Dynamic Duo’ (you know who you are!) I also give a Big Shout out to the other staff who I noticed were going about their business with like-minded cheer and resolve even when the situation just calls for clearing and cleaning tables filled with all the paraphernalia left behind after each sitting or picking up broken glasses and dropped cutlery on the floor… Well done to you all. Keep at it and keep shining. Jay.

I have been drinking in this pub from being 15 years of age never once been IDed since. Today at 26 years of age have been refused a drink which is ridiculous you can quite clearly see I’m of age. The staff took my family’s beers as well as mine and said they have pictures of my family at my nephews party… I am here with my 7 year old little girl and my family have paid a lot of money for this party. They have also said they have pictures of us (without permission). On the other hand the wacky warehouse staff was amazing and so lovely. I understand they are just doing their job but my 18 year old cousin did not even get IDed and she doesn’t look of age. I feel personally victimised in this pub.

I don’t recommend curry at all it was like water and I have seen similar in a baby’s nappy absolutely disgusting

We had three meals, and all had problems. Meat pie was mostly hard dry pastry, mashed potato's were like glue, peas were cold and gravy was so congealed it would not pour out of the gravy boat. Scampi and chips was lukewarm and peas were cold. Chicken in barbecue sauce was stone cold and sent back to kitchen. All meals were served on cold plates. Definitely not returning here

Staff and service were top notch, it's pub grub and was worth what we paid for it. We dined in a group ( as were several other tables) and the food all arrived at the same time and was of good quality. There was wheelchair access. There's lots of space, there's booths, single tables and group dining. And it's kept clean. Thumbs up from all of us 🙂

Family Xmas meal Out..Not a big fan of fast food but I have to Say the burger was really tasty and surprisingly I thoroughly enjoyed the food.. the service was 5* curtious kind polite and I would come back again… well done you’ve turned this place around.. Angela and co

Started coming here occasionally for breakfast because my local Hungry Horse has stopped opening at 9am. Very nice clean pub and always a friendly welcome and food always nice. My only criticism and the only reason for not giving a full 5 is they don't serve a tomato with breakfast

So I recently had stomach surgery and haven't been out with family for quite some time. I was very apprehensive about eating out for the first time and unfortunately there wasn't much I could eat on the menu if anything. I explained my situation and the manager and chef agreed to make me scrambled egg and toast off menu. I was only able to manage less than half of it but I am so grateful for their accommodations. Thank you checkers.

The staff are very helpful but the food was pretty poor. Very greasy. I had the mixed grill I had to wrap some of the food in tissue to soak the oil up, the chicken was nothing special. My partner had the Wednesday curry special. the curry it's self was ok but be VERY warn the onion bhajis are total rubbish. The 1st lot we got was so over cooked they was a black as the ace of spades the looked like lumps of coal. The waitress said she wouldn't even of served it out looking like that. The 2nd lot they gave us after the first lot was sent back well you might as well of eaten a spoon full of oil it was just mush. the 2nd waitress that came said that she avoids them as they are not nice. Ok we end up with free chips.but I am sorry to say this is 1 pub that I will be avoiding to go to for food.

Just had a late lunch with family. First time here and will definately be back. Lovely bunch of friendly helpful staff really made it a lovely experience x we all enjoyed our meals x

Bought a house nearby and decided to check out the food with family. We went twice. The first time we each had the pick save mix - a good price on discount day. The options we picked (steak, salmon) were tasty enough, the the sides were hit-and-miss. The green salad was especially sad and regretful. The second time we went on a Sunday and tried the roast, including the pork mix and the nutroast. To be frank, it was all pretty awful. The mash was very gluey and the green beans were practically grey with mush. The roast potatoes were dried out and the nutroast was disappointing. I think the menu could we worth further exploration (save the roast), however. The pub was surprisingly spacious, good for kids but no dogs allowed inside. The staff was friendly enough. The food? I am yet to be convinced.
