A cozy place to eat authentic, full of flavour, delicious South Indian food. Highly recommended for anyone value good food. Amazing mysore dosa, rava dosa, uttapam, idli, puri, filter coffee and the best part was appam and chicken curry. Definitely coming to this place. Keep up the good work guys!

Number one Indian food the best one in Edinburgh

The restaurant offers a variety of dishes, including plain idli with two delicious chutneys and plain crisp dosas. However, approximately 60% of the menu consists of non-vegetarian options, leaving limited choices for vegetarians. Despite this, there are some good vegetarian options available, such as spinach dal and rice. The restaurant is considered to be quite expensive, but it is still worth trying at least once.

It is a well-maintained restaurant with good service, creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. However, when it comes to the food, it's a bit of a mixed bag. While the dosas are a highlight, with their crisp texture and delicious chutneys, other dishes don’t quite hit the mark. For instance, the Malabar Porota is significantly overpriced and doesn’t deliver the value you’d expect. It might be better if the menu were streamlined to focus on fewer dishes, ensuring each one is of top-notch quality and taste.

I am a visitor to Edinburgh, in the past 10 days of our stay this restaurant was our favourite for dinner. all food we tried were of great taste, would definitely recommend this. couldn't rate service or Atmosphere since I took only delivery from Uber eats.

From what I could tell this seemed like authentic South Indian food! We had the masala dosa, and another lamb dosa and a curry. All excellent. Recommend reading up on the menu before you visit and trying different things. Complimentary chai was beautiful!

Best South Indian restaurant & the food was really so nice.. Love it.. Try it once if you came to Edinburgh.. They having 2 branches & this one having only few seats.. But the taste of food is like awesome..

A restaurant is more than their food. The food was decent but the service was horrible. My food was served without a spoon. Look at the amount of coconut chutney, it was barely half a spoon. They were VERY CHEEKY with the service charge, the total amount was written in a bigger font and the service charge was written below in a smaller font. I paid and realized I was charged more. Their service was horrible so I asked them to refund me, they didn’t have change. They could have refunded it on my card but they didn’t. They could have gone to neighborhood stores and gotten some change but that guy had so much attitude. They need to treat their customers better.

I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent experience at your restaurant. On 20/07/2024 at 6:45 Pm , I placed a takeaway order of Normal Mandi under the name Azar through Phone Unfortunately, when I received my order, [Rice ] were missing.In addition to the incomplete order, I was deeply dissatisfied with the response from your staff when I called to address the issue. The staff member I spoke with was extremely rude and unhelpful, which further exacerbated the situation.I have been a loyal customer and have always enjoyed your food and service. However, this experience has been very disappointing. I would appreciate it if you could address the following: 1. Provide a resolution for the missing items from my order. 2. Ensure that your staff maintain a respectful and professional attitude when dealing with customer concerns.

The food quality and taste was good. However the price and quantity of chutneys what they provide is so low and not sufficient for the 4 plates of idly and one plain dosa. Also the price is extremely high for idlies with price of 8 GBP for two idlies, For the same price, I used to get 4 idlies in London.

A must visit if you’re in Edinburgh and want authentic South Indian food! They were super quick as I had a train to catch from Haymarket, got a take away masala dosa and tomato/onion uttapam. Both were as good as Madras cafe in Mumbai, the sambhar and chutneys were amazing too! Only request is to please make everything a little less spicy as others have commented too… but then again I know many will love that! Service was great, super smiley and welcoming. I know other reviews indicate they want more of a restaurant atmosphere but I think they’ve missed the mark on what kind of of place this is. It’s no frills in all the right ways :)

Definitely must visit this restaurant among all other Indian restaurants in Edinburgh. This was a unique experience because we were able to order a very unique home-made Mango ice cream made with raw (kaccha) mangoes and great Madras filter coffee. Our server Vishal was clearly busy but very hard working and did a good job taking care of us. We also enjoyed the excellent masala dosa and uttapam. 5 stars. If anything, music could be played to make the atmosphere lighter. But who cares, you are there to eat.

Food was amazing!! Had a masala dosa and a lamb curry. Was absolutely incredible. Spicy and delicious. Friend I was with had the biryani which also looked great. Would 100% go back. A lot of options as well. But not a huge amount that it's overwhelming. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

Having recently spent 6 months in Asia, I have some sense of authenticity, and this is it; the food was delicious, and certainly not the standard curry menu, that we’re accustomed to in Britain. I can’t say that this is the best curry in Edinburgh, but if it’s not, I would love to find the best; better than this would be mind blowing stuff!

Superb. Delicious, flavourful and unusual curries which rival the best curry houses in London. Great prices, BYOB, unpretentious but very friendly service. What a great place! Strongly recommend the pakora, dosas and peanut curry (07 on the veggie menu)

The dosa comes with sambar and a wide range of chutneys(4) and all were tasty. The beef fry was outstanding. The flavours of the fish 65 was Good but I found the fish too flaky and it definitely didn’t do justice to the masala

We ordered kuthu parota and crab curry. Kuthu parota is wonderful, good spice and very good taste but not happy with Crab curry (just cooked crab pieces in some gravy sorts) although the crab curry is not available is many places in Edinburgh.

Terrible service. There is a guy at the counter who got a terrible attitude. He is very rude and doesn’t know how to even speak with costumers. The guy at the counter thinks we are buying food for free. To the person who replied : Since when did you start recording the names of customer who order take away directly ??

Some of the best Indian food I've eaten. Dosa to curry, just gorgeous. It looks so unassuming from outside but try it, you'll not be disappointed.

We had order Kuzhi Mandi and it was cost around 13.50 pounds and man told like it will be for 2 person but unfortunately it is not enough for one person…. Very sad and disappointing…

This place is VERY small and when we arrived it was full of Indian people, which is a good sign. The curries were authentic Indian dishes cooked very well and were very tasty. Service was a bit chaotic, however, and not very prompt. They do not have a licence so bring your own alcohol.

Delicious and interesting dishes. Whilst it’s only a small restaurant the food is exceptional and the staff lovely. Make sure you book a table as unsurprisingly this place is very busy.

It was a late meal but what a meal we drove all day to be turned around by another place that was supposed to be opened. We got to Chennai's Marina at 10pm and it was among the best or the Indian I've had and spicy just how I like it. It a BYOB which was convenient because we we just about to go have beers for dinner in our room. I highly recommend everything was exceptional the garlic naan was excellent

I absolutely loved the cheese chili dosa and chili baby corn; they’re incredibly tasty. However, if you’re not a fan of sweet and spicy flavors, the chili baby corn might not be to your liking. I’ve also tried their paneer masala dosa, but it wasn’t as impressive; they simply add paneer to your dosa. For those seeking a touch of North Indian flavor, they can go for masala dosa. Personally, recommend the chili cheese dosa—it’s absolutely delicious!

A good place to give taste buds with spicy treats and can customise orders based on your interest😋 Since it's a restaurant with limited seats, I may suggest take away or quick finish. As arriving customers won't admire at your eating capacity for grabbing their seat😜

Awesome Authentic South Indian food Recently tried CM’s weekend special Alfaham mandi(although being an Arabian dish, Keralites have a special love for it). It was simply delicious and the quantity, it was just mind blowing. A full portion costs around £18 which was plenty for 3. Never got a chance to try their Jalikettu mandi, hopefully they will bring it back soon. Thank you CM for taking us back home with an authentic Mandi experience which we really missed in Edinburgh.

To start with, we ordered cheese naan and chicken curry and biriyani. For such a small place and with just another dine in pres ent, they took 30 minutes to serve us food. When I noticed there was no cheese in the naan, the server kept saying it must be melted and disappeared. It was a horrible experience. Food sucks and service is even horrible. They are very stingy people. They literally behaved like I was eating food there for free. I visited the Dalry’s store

Ordered naan, chicken pallipalayam , pulav and sahi panneer. Every dish was served hot and was tasting how it should be. But the quantity of the food can be increased Overall good experience.

I’d read good reviews about this place, so was excited to check it out. Despite there only being 4 or 5 tables, the service was appalling. Our curries arrived way before the starters. One of the starters we ordered never came out to us at all and there was no explanation why. The rice didn’t show up until much later, until we had actually finished the meal, and that was after reminding the waiter. The food was a mixed bag. The curries we got were really nice and the highlight of the meal, but the veg pakora was awful, rock hard and like eating a piece of cardboard. Rice wasn’t great either and wasn’t the rice we ordered.

I'm amazed. Finally I've found the most delicious Indian restaurant in Edinburgh after living here for 18 months. I'm South Asian - I know good Indian food. This is as authentic as it gets. Try the egg roast and coconut rice. Yum! Or the veg pakora or peas curry. So so so good! Lots of vegan options for my husband too. Great date night!

It was a horrible experience to be honest.Me and my friends were their at the restaurant and the service was so poor that none of our orders came on time. 5 dosa came at half an hour duration and we all had to eat separately inspire of going there as a group. I won't recommend here to go as a group.

went to ‘best’ indian takeaway, curry awards, but disappointing, so salty for lamb hyderabadi masala. The chilli coriander naan was dry and quite plain in flavour and modest quantity, even mr basrai curries more authentic and value multiple XS better. Shinwari, my regular under no threat. may give another chance in future

Fabulous wee place. Food and service so good we went there twice during our stay. A fair few awards on the wall. Staff member who served us, was very knowledgeable about gluten free, and also advised on foods we may like to try. Loved our meal. Went back two days later, and had the same experience.

I'm so glad I tried here. We had a takeaway rather than sit in as it was booked out. Not many seats, possibly 20, but the food was great. The curries we had were peppery hot. Kerolan lamb was especially delicious. I will be back.

It is a good option for a home away try. You can't expect the same taste as in Chennai or Tamilnadu, but it can be tried.

It's a tiny place with perhaps 10 tables which may mean that you have to budge up a bit but please don't miss out on this. Plenty of the local south asians eat here which is always a good sign and they have some excellent dishes that you’re very unlikely to find elsewhere in the vast majority of Indian restaurants. The Masala Dosa is consistently excellent, same with the Naan breads and desserts. Very interesting vegan and vegetarian options and they have told me when I've asked that they prepare them, cook them separately from fish & meat. The Ennai Kathirikai Kuzhambu vegan main is roasted aubergine, fenugreek seeds and tamarind, sesame oil and was exceptional. It's taken a while to have something other than a dosa and I'm now keen to try other veg mains. The only downsides for me are the small accompanying chutney portions with the dosa and the masala chai can be variable. The staff are all lovely and happy to answer any queries.

Franchise on an expansion mode so clearly reflected on the price of each item. Food is good, I will still order food with them but will not do so frequently. Earlier used to have once in 3 months, but it will be once in 6 months due to exorbitant prices. Few weeks back I ordered chicken lollypop priced at 8.45£ , came home to open the parcel, believe me there was only 3 lean pieces of chicken wings dipped in sauce. I have visited Chennai Marina several times for sit-in and take-out. Their taste is outstanding which is so authentic. They do have a large variety of options on the really good menu. I'm a big fan of their Dosa. Their service is incredibly slow. When a group of friends visited they didn't bring all the food together, once my friend finished his starter They brought mine. It is disappointing all the time. And the food was too spicy. I told them to make it less spicy but there was no difference between my last food and last last. Even the prices are a bit high.

I had a very disappointing meal at Chennai Marina today. I ordered the chicken biryani around 9:30pm, but what I received looked like leftovers from the day rather than a fresh, hot meal. The bowl was half full and the biryani itself was completely bland and dried out. It made my throat dry and was so flavorless that it was inedible. Making matters worse, the biryani did not come with any sides or sauces that one would expect. I had to ask the staff just to bring me something - anything - that I could eat the biryani with. The lack of sides and the dried out, bland taste of the biryani made me feel like I was being served leftovers rather than a fresh meal. For the price I paid and coming in at a reasonable dinner hour, I expected much better quality and care put into my meal. The whole experience left me feeling extremely disappointed and like I wasted my money on food I could barely eat. I hope the kitchen and staff can improve on the quality and presentation of dishes in the future. However, because of this terrible experience, I will not be dining here again, especially not at this later dinner hour. I also would not recommend that others eat here based on the poor quality meal I received.

This is my absolute favourite restaurant in Edinburgh for Indian Food! This restaurant is like a second home to me. I have tried most of their dishes! If you want to taste authentic south indian food, this is your place to go! I would highly recommend their, Chicken Briyani, Dosa, Mysore Masala Dosa, Idly,Kothu Parotta, Pepper Chicken Semi- Gravy, Chicken 65, Gobi Pepper Fry and their MEALS!! YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY VIST THIS PLACE ATLEAST ONCE!

I had the most wonderful experience dining in Chennai’s marina as it had OG authentic Indian cuisine and the taste was exactly the same I had in my hometown it was very filling and the portions of food was pretty much good. I would highly recommend KERALA BEEF ROAST more than anything. The service was on time by Vishal and he was so friendly and recommended dishes to taste. The most important part was after dining in the taste made me to take away some food for my next meal. I would highly suggest this restaurant if anyone is looking for Indian cuisine and the environment was pleasant with nice Tamil melody song which exactly gives the feel as you are eating in chennai while you are enjoying food in Edinburgh.

I took take away order of dosas ( plain and onion) thinking it would met the expectations. Unfortunately the quantity was very very less for 1 person and the sambar and chutney given was not adequate. My son was equally disappointed being a dosa fan and it was just one star because of the taste. Not recommended for dosa atleast- Rishi's is the best in business for this atleast.
