Got a takeaway, great food. Very friendly. Plan to go back to eat in soon.

Great night out. Service was great and the food was Great . The staff were attentive and the lady in charge even gave us a doggy bag as there was loads of good food.

Thoroughly enjoyed our evening, service very good, food excellent, no compulsory service charge but tip gratefully received, must return next time I’m back in Whitley Bay 👍

Always use this restaurant. Best quality food and friendly staff. Would highly recommend. Decor not the best but good food is what is important. Will be back again very soon with the family. Prawn toast is best we’ve ever tasted.

Love this place,decor is very tired ,but don’t be put off .The food is great ,service with a smile always,only tried this a month ago .Live in Whitley Bay don’t know why I haven’t been until now ,normally go for Indian food,been three times in a month ,had king prawn curry every time ,lots of lovely prawns ,give it a try.

A great little gem of a restaurant. Great Food - and plenty of it with super-friendly staff. The only downside is that the furnishings look a bit tired but otherwise - it's Great..!!

Food was mediocre. Nothing special. We had the set menu. Food was hot and edible but not the tastiest I have experienced.

Another fantastic meal at Chengs! Service impeccable, can’t do enough for you, happy friendly attentive staff, can’t ask for anymore! Started with complimentary warm melt in the mouth prawn crackers…. Very moreish! Had soup then duck and pancakes, absolutely delicious and huge duck portion. Main meals of crispy beef in Cantonese sauce and satay chicken were to die for, we had many side dishes also, throughly enjoyed the meal it was perfection! Price of meal and drinks very reasonable and portions plentiful, couldn’t ask for much more. All I would say is the restaurant is starting to look a little tired and could do with a repaint and some new furniture but this doesn’t detract from the food what so ever. We will be back soon!

Haven't been here for a few years. Thought would give it another go as was Chinese NY ( no sign of any celebration btw). Will not be revisiting any time soon. Atmosphere was terrible. If the staff smiled and looked like they wanted to be there that maybe would of helped. Food reasonable. Pink paper table clothes with red leather chairs which have seen better days!! The coast requires some competition if this is all we have for a sit down meal!!

Best salt and pepper spare ribs ever! Amazing sizzling filet steak with green peppers and black bean sauce! Super tasty duck and pancakes! Singapore vermicelli - perfect. Great service and friendly staff.

We always go to Chengs for our works night out. Yet again we were not disappointed. Great food, well priced, good atmosphere and staff as ever were lovely.

We came here for our New Years Eve meal , it was a set menu and it was amazing , we had duck and mushroom soup followed by spring rolls and ribs , duck came next followed by mains , we had lemon chicken and a king prawns in schwean with char sui rice ,all the food was fantastic, hot and tasty and at £40 per person great value , this is our favourite resteraunt and I've been coming here over 14 years , the menu was great and we left very full and very happy 😊

Typical old fashioned Chinese Restaurant Lots of similar items on menu with several banquets to choose from. A usable website would aid meal selection before arriving. A passable experience in area short of dine-in Chinese Restaurants.

We rang 2x regarding the gluten free options. They said that was fine and had a gluten free menu. We ordered, specifically stressing the gluten free order. When they delivered us our food, we asked multiple times if it was definitely gluten free. They said yes it was. Unfortunately it wasn’t, despite checking, and this poisoned my celiac brother who has been throwing up all night. We got this refunded, obviously, but it was just a massive shame and damper on the whole night when we’d purposely rang and made such an effort to choose a place which catered for my brother. If this had been a peanut allergy, or any other allergy, this could‘ve been a serious serious health issue. Sort it out please!

Shame they were out of dumplings when we ordered but didn't spoil the meal. Definitely will go back

Only had a take away meal tasty but the portion was very small for the price paid. Not a great selection in comparison to most .

Friendly staff and very polite. Plenty of prawn crackers freshly made. We had two king prawn dishes an curry and a sweet and sour. Both had a good portion of very large king prawns. The soup starters we had were very tasty.

Chinese food at its absolute finest. We had a meal for 4 from the set menu C and it was delicious, every part perfectly cooked and a pleasure on the palette. I would thoroughly recommend Chengs for a dining experience. We are already planning a return visit. They also offer a takeaway service.

Best Chinese food in Whitley Bay. Always great service and good value for money.

We ate at Chengs for the first time on Saturday evening, and absolutely loved it. Three of us chose Banquet B (I think it was £20pp), and it was excellent. Portion sizes were really good and the food was lovely. Staff are also extremely efficient and friendly. We were especially impressed with Lauren, who looked after us incredibly well and answered all our daft questions with a smile. It was also very busy, which is generally a really good sign.

Lovely sweet little Chinese restaurant in Whitley Bay. Staff are friendly & service is fast & not slow like other places. Food is tasty & good quantity per serving. Only thing would say is meat can be done with being cooked a bit more well done, but that's the only thing that could be improved. Really delicious food for a good price. 🍜

Lived in WB for two years and never knew this place existed. Wanted to go Chinese for their new year and found this place. Lovely restaurant with the most amazing staff and the food was faultless. We had the £29 a head banquet with a bottle of Chablis at £27 which you'd not get anywhere else. 💯 recommend 👍

New years eve meal with the wife , amazing , we love the food here , soup , ribs then duck followed by mains of lemon chicken and King prawn in schwean both with rice , the food was served efficiently and we both left stuffed and happy , at £35 a head it was fantastic value and the staff are friendly and attentive can't wait to visit again during 2023

I'll give this place 2 out of 5 for a takeaway. The price I payed for 3 meals was so expensive, doesn't come with rice or chips. My food was good but the other 2 meals were bland with very big chunks of vegetables and ginger, the sauce had little flavour. Not sure how the eat in would be but we won't be going, very disappointed.

First take away from here tonight and have to say overall we were disappointed.. Husbands food was good and he enjoyed his. My meal was spoilt by large pieces of ginger which overpowered any other flavours... Also sons chow mein had little sauce so very dry. Prawn crackers were cold and greasy... Dining in may be a different experience, but as one of the most expensive chinese take aways we have had in Whitley Bay our expectations were not met.

Definitely the best Chinese food I have had. And I eat out a LOT whilst working away, on expenses. Friendly staff, good value, large portions. Absolutely superb.

The freshest Chinese takeaway food I’ve ever had and well worth paying a little bit more than in other places. The service was really quick on a Friday evening and the food was still hot when we got it home.

The worst Chinese in the world! We should have been suspicious of the draft beer. The pipe must not have been cleaned for a long time because the taste was musty and unclean. The menus were sticky, so we couldn't help but feel the need to clean our hands. To make a long story short: apart from the two large bowls of shrimp chips that we were given without asking, nothing was as it should be. We suspect that all the food was mixed together and heated straight from bottles, bags and cans. In any case, it had nothing remotely to do with Chinese cuisine!

We ordered the early evening menu, which is a good option to eat a good amount in good price, the corn soup was good, missing chicken mince, the duck pancake was okay, not bad. Good service.

Have always gone to town for Chinese food but decided to try this the other week. We had the weeknight banquet which was great value for money. Ordered a portion of chips and chilli chicken which we had to take home as we underestimated the portion size of the banquet. Will be back shortly really nice.

Very average food for the price, was expecting it to be a lot nicer. Prawns and spring rolls were slimy. Chicken satay was just cubes of cheap dry chicken. Overall need to lower prices in my opinion

Excellent chinese food with a really high standard of service. Great quality ingredients and flavoursome food that’s not oily like other chinese restaurants. Top class friendly service and a good class of clientele. Best chinese in the region. Highly recommended.

We went to cheng's last night 24/9/21 as it was our last night in Whitley bay we had pre booked we were shown to a table the wine is a little bit pricey 16.95 for a non discript house wine,husband had a beer and I had orange and lemonade which was nice we had prawn crackers to nibble on while perusing the menu which was extensive in the end we picked a couple of dishes we started with vegetable spring rolls which were delicious then we had our main of spicy sweet and sour chicken and Pekin crispy beef both dishes were absolutely delicious then we had hot flannels and coffee and mints we even got our chop sticks to bring back with us at a price of 50pence I would really recommend this place for a fabulous meal

Lovely lady at counter, delivered meal to our car within a few minutes. Mixed meats and prawns in a plum sauce was delicious and a very generous portion.

Working in the area, read the reviews which seemed overall positive so thought I'd give it a go. Now wished I hadn't.Ordered a simple chicken chow mein for takeaway. It was highly priced at £7.50 so thought it must be good. Well, it is the worst Chinese I've attempted to eat, half got thrown away. There was no flavour, everything tasted the same whether it was the noodles, carrot, mushroom or chicken, although I'm not convinced it was chicken??I have spent the past hour running back and forth to the toilet, my stomach feels like its about to bubble over.As far as a Chinese goes, avoid it with a vengeance, go elsewhere it really isn't up to much.

This is the worst Chinese restaurant in which I have eaten food. The staff and service were a joke. The person serving the tables was obviously a trainee as he didn't have any idea how to serve customers. The food was very bland and not fit for purpose. This was not a cheap restaurant so therefore you would expect some kind of quality. Not so at this place. Complained to the manager ( a woman and didn't get her name) she was not interested in my complaint. if you like good food never visit this place!

Came here as we had a rare night off together , we ordered one of the set menus and as usual we were not disappointed, the food was amazing with starters and mains all hot and tasty , my favourite dish has to be the schezwan mussels ( ordered extra ontop of the set meal ) still one of the best restaurants in the area and if you want Chinese this is the place to go

Living here for a while and it tried this little gem. It’s actually pretty tasty and cannot understand why we have not been before. I think that takeaway can always look at bit beige, depending on what you get but the photos don’t do it justice. Give the takeaway a bash!

Order received was supposed to be meat; however upon opening i found approximately1kg of onions and 2-3 mere tiny morsel

Where to start. Both of us are aging and eyes aren't the best ,so yes maybe should of brought our glasses . So struggled to read the menu and told the waitress but no offer of assistance . The starters of chops suey rolls were scalding to hot to eat and to be honest dangerously hot nearly burnt out lips so hand to wait at least 15 mins to cool . Then the waitress asked if we wanted a break or go straight on to our main .we said no break . And then waited half an hour before I had to get the attention and ask if would be mush longer. We were offered no drinks etc while waiting . Any ways then meal eventually came and the portion sizes where crazy his curry was a huge portion made for 3 people and my Cantonese chichen was only just enough for 1 .the quality of the food was takeaway quality not restaurant We also asked for cutlery as dont use chopsticks and was still offered a plate only small bowl to eat from . Service was awfull would not be back and not recommending to family and friends

Can't believe I've not been here before after living in Whitley Bay for years. Had early evening banquet, all dishes were lovely. Staff so helpful, will definitely be back.

worst meal ever ordered takeaway 1/4 duck it was so bad could not eat it it was all fat and no meat my husband had the meat curry and there was hardly any meat just lots of sauce spent over 20 pound to put in the bin never order from here again

Wonderful meal early evening banquet with my daughter and her boyfriend. The spare ribs are the best in the north east the meat just falls from the bone. The curry rice and prawn crackers are delicious. In fact all the food was lovely hot and fresh. Covid safty measures in place. Good to have some quality time with a well cooked meal.

We booked a table for a birthday treat for my fiance. We were greeted by a waitress, confirming our booking with an added extra.... We are only accepting cash payments tonight. Establishments promote card payments for safety reasons, this industry complains that they are in a mess with vastly reduced income. Not surprised really, they don't help themselves. We walked out as we didn't have the cash alternative .

We wanted Chinese food and wandered into Chengs and despite not booking they found us a decent table. The menus have set banquets and a la carte. We really wanted the mixed platter that came with the set banquet but a la carte for mains. We asked whether it could be done and they said yes no problem. Drinks and the platter came very quickly along with a bowl of prawn crackers which were thin and tasty. Mains were absolutely amazing and very filling. Reasonably priced too £50 for starters, 2 mains, 2 pints of Becks and 2 bottles of cider. Try it, you'll not regret it.

Food is always delicious 😋 and nothing to much trouble for staff, always recommend this place!

Been to my favourite restaurant Cheng's had a fabulous meal.

My fav place in whitley , amazing food and great service , cane here for a belated wedding anniversary and it never disappoints,banquet c ordered , hot platter to share , then duck followed by mains of lemon chicken and King prawns in schwean with loads of rice , the food is tasty and served fresh and hot , service is great with courses 1 after another with 5 min between mains to rest a bit , cant praise the place enough , been coming here for 10 years and here's to the next 10 , thanks to the team for another great night

A family favourite over many years. I visited three times in August, and every time the service was very good and the food was excellent. One of the best places to eat around Tyneside.

It didn't taste like authentic Chinese food at all! The curry sauce tasted cheap and from the powder. The Corn soup was tasteless.

Have now used Chengs takeaway/collection service a few times for a weekend treat in the current situation, while not the same as dining in the restaurant the food has been superb and the service from Jason and the team is excellent we will be back soon.

Ive been going to this place for over 30yrs , jason and his family have had the place for nearly 20 of those. Great food, great service and great atmosphere, well priced for what you get. Set menu's are always great value for 2 or more.

We've been to Chengs many times over the years and have never had a bad meal yet. The staff are approachable and friendly and the restaurant is clean and well set up. Just there a fortnight ago and still well up to standard. As good as any Chinese restaurant that I've used both in this country and abroad. Highly recommended.

Go here every year as get together for the scouts. It's always a good banquet, with plenty to eat, the staff are always welcoming & friendly. Can recommend it.

Had our grandsons 16th party here where 10 + 1 child attended the service was very good nothing a problem anything we asked for we got it.The food was fantastic and plenty of it just went for a banquet and the owner just helped us out with his recommendations to ease the problem of ordering we were not disappointed and every one enjoyed the food and we left very very little.

Best spare ribs I have ever had - the meat is always tender and falls off the bone. Beef and black bean the best too - and the prawn toast has whole prawns in it! Just love the food here

I'm just going to say it - British Chinese food is rubbish. Come at me.Got takeaway here recently - it took an HOUR on a Thursday when we ordered at 730 pm. I wish in retrospect we had just not bothered!The chicken fried rice was plain and flavorless. The spicy salt and chili chicken was just hard nuggets of salty chicken. The Won Ton soup was plain and only would've appealed to someone recovering from food poisoning and in need of broth. The chow mein was sticky sweet.My parents like everything - I mean EVERYTHING - and they were silent eating this meal. That's saying something. Avoid.
