I was looking for somewhere to have lunch whilst in Stevenage and had given up hope of finding anywhere half decent and then I spotted Chateau Cafe. It was not very busy but staff were friendly and welcoming. A nice menu with lots of things on sourdough toast such as poached eggs, eggs benedict, eggs royale, all day breakfast. Good selection on menu. I opted for the sourdough toast with smashed avocado, poached eggs and bacon. Food arrived promptly and nicely presented. There was some salad with balsamic dressing with the food. The poached eggs were done to perfection, nice and runny, just as I like them. This was a lovely lunch and an unexpected find. Would go back and recommend. An unexpected gem in what was a depressing selection of places to eat other than the chain coffee shops

Stumbled across this place for lunch - it's a little gem! Really tasty, healthy food - had the Greek avocado on sourdough toast with salad & pot of tea - good value & great service. Sadly (for them) not many customers at around 1pm & the few people who were in were sat at back of cafe so it looked pretty empty / lacked bit of atmosphere. Maybe they should seat first customers near front windows to make it look more lively and encourage more in.

Chateau Cafe stands out in town because of its French style decor and seating. The menu items are the usual coffee shop suspects like eggs Royal and benedict but with a healthy twist of smashed avocado. They also do gluten free cakes and a good choices of teas. Ordered the avocado royale because the Basil dressing sounded good but it turns out to be a typo because it was balsamic dressing. The tea menu was more detailed on the wall compared to the printed menu so if I had seen that I would have ordered the green tea. Overall, not bad.

We visited on a Sunday at 11am, and were welcomed by friendly staff and a very clean and nicely laid out cafe. We were served quickly and the food was really tasty, and plentiful. Would recommend unreservedly and visit again. I had eggs royale which was delicious. The eggs were superb and the accompanying salad was the perfect accompaniment.

I have lunch here nearly every week now I’ve discovered this cafe. The menu is varied, the protein brunch is particularly good. Lots of space for prams etc and clean toilets and baby changing facilities. Good coffee and efficient friendly staff.

Had the most delicious Lunch today at Chateau Cafe. My husband had poached egg on smashed avocado on sourdough bread and salmon and I had maple syrup, bacon, pecan, banana pancakes. Both were beautifully presented and tasted really really good. Even the side salad (which most restaurants only make as a token gesture) was well thought out and was drizzled in the tastiest basil dressing. Couldn't rate this cafe highly enough and will definitely be coming back.

I was in Stevenage town centre and wanted to go somewhere for a hot drink and a sit down. I was near Chateau Cafe and it was perfect! I had a pot of tea and a sit down and it was excellent. The lady who served me was very friendly and welcoming and I got my drink promptly. As well as doing drinks they also have an all day breakfast and toastie menu so you can get something to eat as well. It was a very pleasant atmosphere in the cafe and there were a few people there so it is clearly quite popular.

Popped in with my son for a break from ‘back to school’ shopping. Lovely atmosphere, light, comfortable and stylish. I had cappuccino and sticky orange cake (delicious) and my son had a cheese and ham toastie (which he awarded 11 out of 10!) Of course I finished the balsamic salad served with his toastie which was v nice. Prices not cheap but pretty average or just below (£4.95 for toastie, £2.80 for cappuccino). Beats Costa hands down for service, quality and atmosphere 👍

Stevenage new town can feel short of good lunch spots. Chateau Cafe is the best option with straightforward cafe fare done well. Freshly made sandwiches and toasted sandwiches, some salads, jacket potatoes, scrambled egg etc. All served in a prompt and friendly way. Indoor and some (four tables) for outdoor seating. Plenty for vegetarians and some vegan options. In addition, an appealing range of fresh cakes. Recommend it.

Fell upon this cafe by accident and what a pleasant surprise to discover this new cafe in Stevenage centre. Such a welcome change from the existing mix of copy cat cafes that prevail. They have kept the French style of cafe furniture with pictures of French scenes on the walls. Service very friendly and light and tasty meals served. The cappuccino is the best I have tasted in a while.

Stevenage town centre has long lacked a middle market cafe that is neither greasy spoon, nor noodle bar. Chateau is a large-ish cafe with a varied menu that includes baked potatoes, salads, cakes and toasties. They don't appear to do fried food, which is something of a blessing as my clothes didn't reek of fried food when I left. Will definitely return

honestly one of the worst desserts I’ve ever ordered! ordered a waffle which was literally a soggy, cold toaster waffle with a bit of sauce and some strawberries which were clearly not fresh; tasted like they had come from a frozen pack - bland and soggy. milkshake just tasted completely off and didn’t have whipped cream as ordered. the cookie dough was so thin it basically stuck to the packaging and the kinder bueno topping was just 3 pieces of kinder so not even a full bar! the ice cream that’s supposed to be ‘whippy’ is just a scoop of plain vanilla. and to top it all off, the order took 1hr 20mins to arrive… would not recommend at all!

I went in on Tuesday morning due to trainstrikes affecting my usual commute and I had such a wonderful experience. Even though it was busy the lady on the till was friendly, smiley and made the transaction a great one. Plus the communication between her and the birista even though it was busy was great. Not to mention it was a fabulous hot chocolate and sausage roll, which helped me forgot my train troubles. Amazing costumer service and hot chocolate
