Excellent. Sadly a funeral party but very sympathetically handled. Generous portions. Good value.

Starting to become a regular attendee at the Thursday pub quiz. Really enjoyable evening’s entertainment alongside good pub grub, great service, and friendly staff.

Just had a lovely meal here. Thoroughly recommend The Charwood.

I hired the Pentland Suite to host my father's funeral tea. The room is bright and welcoming, tables were beautifully laid out and it was great to have the use of our own bar for refreshments. The buffet was plentiful and appropriate, samosas in particular were delicious. The staff and management were lovely, and very attentive, making us feel most welcome. An added bonus is that Charwood is easily reached from the funeral venue (Mortonhall) for guests unfamiliar with Edinburgh and offers easy access afterwards to all the routes out of Edinburgh. Would thoroughly recommend as a group gathering location.

Enjoyed a family lunch at Charwood and found it to be a great place to go. The food is a great standard and very tasty and there’s a good choice on the menu - something for everyone. The staff are very friendly and helpful even in very busy times. Only mark off was the phone kept ringing and it’s very loud but other than that we all enjoyed our experience very much.

We had dinner here last night (20/3) I had the Caesar salad which I have had there twice before, this time it came without anchovies, still very tasty! When the manager approached to ask if we wanted anything else I commented that there were no anchovies and I was "devastated" obviously I was joking ,he took at as the joke it was and added that next time just remember to request then as they don't put them on automatically, I thanked him for this information, we ordered 2 coffees. When he returned with them he said they were on him to make up for the anchovies.... TOP service as I mearly made a comment not a complaint , the salad was delicious without them! My friend had macaroni cheese which she said was also delicious! We will be back and I will ask for anchovies 😊

Everything went well for a hhandicapped old deaf man and his wife. The booking was made with a charmingly clear voiced lady. We were received in a friendly way and taken, as requested if possible, to a window table clear of noise. Service was prompt, attentive and welcoming. Courses came promptly, and were all delicious. The resuting bill was very reasonable, and I was kindly offered the chance to pay it at our table.. We will be back, soon. Thanks to all concerned for a deleightful 92nd birthday meal.

We booked the Balfour suite for 21 people for my mums 70th birthday. We had a great time, food was delicious and the staff were very attentive. Will definitely recommend anyone looking for a wee do to the Charwood. Thank you ever so much for playing it well with surprising my mum.

Was there for a funeral reception. Other than us lot there were few customers. It looked very spacious and up market.

Intriguing restaurant, very family friendly, food is OK and decently priced. Hamburgers chargrilled, real good. A few typical local dishes, also good, including dessert. The ambience is nice, tables are well spaced, the decor is from 20 years ago - not modern. Food while ok, not top. We didn't try the pizzas. The kofta was the worst, but still good. Service is OK, they don't force you to tip like in the city centre - thank you!

There's a nice feeling to this place. The food is plentyful and reasonably priced.

Food was reasonable. Thai chicken curry was just a vegetable curry with lots of cauliflower which I hate, with a few pieces of chicken added. Had the meal changed for steak pie which was not much better, the steak was stringy. The desserts were OK. Soft drinks are expensive. Service was good. Overall I would say 5 out of 10.

Mother’s Day breakfast with family. Enjoyed it, thought the staff were really nice and would definitely go back. They were very very busy so there were a couple of items missing from the plates but all was sorted very quickly and without any fuss from us or the staff.

Open bright dining area. Good service without a long wait despite the restaurant being busy on a Friday lunchtime. Food ? - was ok. Not special. Fish and chips (small portions) - still generous size - batter was somewhat soggy and chunky chips not quite crisp enough around the edges either. Pleasant enough but wouldn’t rush back

We booked the conference room for one of our Regional Assembly events on Wednesday 6 March. We arrived early to set up and check the equipment. Sheryl let us in and made sure everything was up and running before our event started. Brilliant venue in a great location. An Edinburgh venue with parking and just off the bypass. Food was great. Charwood hosted the wake for my father’s funeral. The numbers attending were even more than anticipated but the arrangements and buffet were more than adequate. The staff were very helpful and pleasant, the food excellent and the private room really nice size and well set out.

5 of us visited this restaurant for an evening meal. Service was great with friendly staff. A huge menu with plenty to choose from the food was plentiful and tasty.

We hired one of the private function halls for my partners birthday meal. The room was ideal with six young kids which I’m sure the restaurant staff and customers would agree! This took a lot of stress off us as a family and meant we could enjoy our meal without having to worry about the kids disrupting other people. I was a little wary of pre-ordering incase someone changed their mind or an order was wrong etc. The orders were all correct and pre-ordering actually worked so well. There was no disruption from the wait staff asking what we would like or people sitting looking at menus trying to decide. The staff asked if we were ready for our starters and once finished brought the mains out. This again reduced any stress, it was all so seamless! The wait staff were very accommodating and helpful. The food was lovely. It really was a great experience and we will definitely be back.

Had to go ask someone to take drinks order. Had to go ask for the bill. No one asked if food was ok.

This is the 3rd funeral wake I've been at (including my Mother's). Every time the food was adequate but not much imagination as to presentation. Also on every occasion the food ran out (coincidence?) Today after a few hours the temperature dropped slowly as if the heating had been turned down.

Lovely lunch out for Christmas with my Cousin. Huge thanks to Katie who made my day. After bringing us our meals she asked 'Is there anything else I can get you?' I replied - Hugh Jackman please. Next thing - I turned round and a picture of Hugh Jackman had appeared! Now THAT'S customer service! Thanks Katie - that was an extra special side dish ;-)

Dog friendly in their sports lounge area. Plenty of comfortable seating and even provided a water dish for my doggo. Im not a fan of hummus but their lamb kofta was delicious. I had the Charwood Cottage Pie for the main dish and I would absolutely order ot again.

Service was very good. The food was average, felt the chicken was slightly over cooked but the potatoes and mushrooms I had with it were perfect. Wouldn't rule out going again.

Barman was rude to guest. Said he "couldn't be bothered" to serve them.

I have going here on and off for several years. Today is the first time I have been inspired to write a full review because the service was absolutely brilliant. The food was great too. They always do a great pizza because they have pizza ovens but can be a little hit or miss otherwise. No faulting todays experience and a well deserved 5 stars ⭐️

We had a private room for a family event. Service was super flexible and attentive. Food excellent. Very satisfied.

The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant is really lovely. Very fresh and modern. Fish and chips was the best I've ever had, hands down. We also had the garlic pizza bread with cheese to share and it was delicious. The biscoff sundae for dessert was amazing - huge and actual whippy ice cream paired with biscoff sauce and crumbs, plus two waters and a biscoff biscuit. We all really enjoyed the food. The staff were friendly, however, service was slow. It took 15 minutes for our drinks order to be taken and then I had to wave someone over to take our food order, the same when we wanted the dessert menu. This wasn't due to it being busy, as other tables next to us were being served, just seemed our table (which was a large round table for 5 people) was ignored a bit. Overall, we would definitely come back! Food is well worth the price.

Ended up going here for meal after nice walk at Braidburn valley park. Its dog friendly, has a nice atmosphere and service was very good and quick. Food was also very nice. Will be back again. Definitely worth a visit.

Great place. The temperature was spot on. Not too hot. Not too cold. The service was super quick. Food made fresh to order. I felt it a wee bit expensive for what it wss. Like £30 for a margarita pizza, chips and ice cream this didn't included drinks Also note they didn't have much of a selection of vegan options

dropped in for coffee, what a gorgeous place sat outside in glorious sunshine with the smell of woodsmoke which they cook steaks and pizzas on lovely interior hopefully make it back on for food soon

Unfortunately I was disappointed brought my daughter here for her 16th with family .food and service wasn't great which was disappointing as been here before and it was good .

Was here a few months ago. I booked a table for 10 for after a funeral. When we arrived that number increased to 13 people. The shift manager was great. He was absolutely fine with a few more people and accompanied us with no problems. All the staff made our visit as great as it could possibly be. Thank you to all the staff and we will be back in the future.

had a birthday lunch for my wife. the staff were brilliant the food was brilliant and the service was above and beyond. definitely recommend this restaurant. they also have a function room which we have used on several occasions over the years great venue for a party. or big family get together.

Good food! Haddock small portion was more like a big portion and the normal portion was huge :o but it was really good. The pizza wasn’t so bad but I wouldn’t take it again.

The General Manager Mike talked us through booking an event room for a funeral wake. He was kind, respectful and knowledgeable. The events room was spacious and light and the buffet options are reasonably priced. We did however notice that the chandelier type decorations were dusty and at least 2 were broken as well as there being marks on the walls and scores in the flooring and chairs. There is plenty of parking available and outdoor seating which complements the venue well and on a bright summer's day is ideal. Overall a lovely wee place but it could do with a little extra care to bump it up to a 5 star review.

First time at this restaurant & it was fantastic the service was 100% spot on great customer service, we had breakfast which was absolutely beautiful, coffees were also tasty. Highly recommend this restaurant it also has great deals on different days. Very clean & staff friendly with a nice greeting on arrival.

Attended a funeral tea and quality of food wasn't the best

Very disappointed to be honest! My daughter and myself got soup of the day which was Lentil. At a cost of £5.95 each! The soup tasted exactly like Heinzs Lentil soup??? Looked the same as well with the same consistency! I’m shocked! Unbelievable! My mother got fish and chips which looked nice and would have been even better if the chef???? Didn’t throw so much salt on top of it!!!! Not a great experience sorry just to add, looked at other reviews and noticed how up themselves they are! Putting a review up is a personal experience and we don’t get anything in return for it!!! How dare they have a go at a paying customer for giving there opinion on their experience!!!??? So bloody rude!!! Just to put it out there! I have lived in this area all my life and the charwood is just convenient!! Have a look at yourself! No one would travel to come! Says it all!!!!
