Went for fish and chips and had to wait 40 Minutes before they arrived. They were terrible, the fish was over cooked and chewy! And the chips tasted disgusting, I don’t think the fat/oil they were cooked in had been changed for ages 🤮when we complained they couldn’t care less and no apology. Such a shame because Charltons was recommended to us from someone who visited a couple of years ago, definitely gone down hill and won’t be going again.

I usually like Charlton for a stop after a walk as they do the most amazing sausage sandwiches. We were there on New Year’s Day and the toilets then left a lot to be desired with the middle one of 3 blocked. We were there again today and the toilets were even worse and had obviously never been cleaned. The middle ladies toilet was still blocked but in an even more disgusting state, toilet paper everywhere and a filthy floor and sinks. Considering food is served here it’s appalling. Come on Charltons get your act together.

We have had take aways from Charltons on lots of occasions and never been disappointed. The staff are polite, friendly, efficient and good at food. Freshly cooked every time, great portion size, cannot fault it.

Being literally on the beach, and dog-friendly, this is a great place to meet up with firends for a coffeee or a meal. Very friendly staff and food is excellent value for money, as well as tasty. We visit regularly with our dogs, after a walk on the beach.

It’s got nice food but to say it’s temporary closed.. first it’s closed Tuesday then said Thursday then now they are saying it’s going to be open Friday.. just be honest and tell everyone your not opening up at all.. the kitchen looks the same and it hasn’t changed so what’s the point of closing in the first place.

Probably the worst night's stay in a hotel ever in the UK… Horrendous and unforgivable stay at this so-called hotel which Morpeth should be ashamed to have trading in the lovely town. From the start I want to state that the staff at the Waterford Lodge are not at fault, they tried to make my stay the best that it could be given what they have to work with, but this was to prove impossible. Yet, the same cannot be expressed about the pathetic and inept management, especially the ‘lady’ who I met at check out and dealt with breakfast where she treated her staff with contempt and as if they were her personal ‘slaves’ as demonstrated in the way that she spoke to the team in front of me and the other guests together with the fact that she did not seem to have the vocabulary to apologise for the hotel's shortcomings and issues when I raised the issues with her, just full of hapless excuses. The lodge is very rundown and shows the lack of investment from the very time that you walk across the threshold of the building, everywhere there was peeling paintwork, stained threadbare carpets and the overall visual aspect being pitiful and in places disgusting, all this prior to entering the bedroom allocated. Let me be blunt rooms are awful, worn out and offer no comfort whatsoever. The bed's mattress offered no support and prevented any chance of a comfortable night's sleep. The duvet was so thin it might as well have been missing, and the pillows were as hard as sandbags and bore many stains. They had obviously not been laundered in a decade. The room was always cold, not aided by the old single-glazed window and no curtains to prevent the chill of the night from penetrating the room together no heat from the only radiator in the bedroom. The television was so old you would expect to find it in a museum. The only seat in the room was an uncomfortable small stool. The bedside light turned on and off at will. The bathroom was dated in terms of décor also showed many signs of constant wear and tear together with lack of maintenance however the main issue was that the shower did not work (the management response to this was to use the bath, no chance given that when I filled it with water numerous hairs etc. floated to the surface absolutely disgusting). Noise was always a constant issue, whether it was from the corridor outside the room or the adjacent rooms through the paper-thin internal walls, (the contemptible management response to this was I should have brought earplugs with me) The only aspect of the stay which was anything like acceptable was the fine breakfast which was made with good ingredients together with the plated hot dish being very well cooked and presented, complimented by an acceptable buffet selection. However, a good breakfast does not make up for an atrocious, disappointing and appalling experience at the Waterford Lodge including no heating, not being able to have a shower and above all not getting a good night's sleep. Avoid at all costs, even if you believe that the chargeable rate offers value for money, because it will not.
