Charlie's Fish & Chips in Bolton

This has been one of my favourite restaurants for a long time. I loved it so much when I first tried it I thought I was going to hate it but I loved it 10 out of 10.

Very average Chinese food. The worst chicken balls I’ve ever tasted and poor quality meat. Very few vegetables in the main dishes, bbq ribs were so dry they were inedible and crispy chilli beef was beyond chewy. Shame.

Thoroughly enjoyable chips, like chips should be.

If I could give 0 stars I would, stay away at all costs. Chips were burned. Fish was hardly battered. The women serving looks like a battered fish herself. Needs shutting down asap!

The young woman behind the counter was very rude. Safe to say I will not be going back again.

We always go to Charlie's for our Chinese food, and we are never left disappointed. There's plenty of meals to choose from, and my personal favourite is their salt and pepper chicken. My family enjoys it every time we get a takeaway. It's always busy which tells you it's very popular in the area.

Visited twice last week . I think there must be a new chef . The Salt & Pepper Mix is the best it has ever been. Plenty of it and flavours are spot on . It's also more spicy . Will be definitely back for more . 18/10/24 Just had Chilli Crispy Beef ( wazzed up ) with egg fried rice and scraps . Unbelievable !! Simply the best Chinese in Westhoughton. Place is spotless, all the staff brilliant.

The service was excellent, efficient and very effective. The turnround was fantastic cannot be beaten.

Food okay but quite greasy, however very rude lady on counter who tries to short change, and then when you query it suddenly your total has changed. Seem to make up prices on the spot. Shame, not what it used to be.

Going downhill unfortunately. Bone in the fish and the tiniest portion of “regular chips” I’ve ever seen. Got the order before me wrong. 😑 what’s going on ??

Charlie's...what can I say...yes fish & chips that are always perfect! The Oriental dishes are amazing! Tonight I had dim sum with a portion of chips, delicious as always! The Team are friendly and attentive.I know when I order a takeaway from here that it will be excellent quality and it is every time! So I'd say try Charlie's for a change from your local! You just might find yourself returning again and again and again....

Tried for the first time and definitely won't be goin back chow mean full of grease no flavour bland spring rolls not cooked threw wet dough pastry inside waisted 23 pounds on food

Absolutely gone down the pan literally! Curry just tasted of flour no spice, ribs were old and the sauce again just tasted of flour no taste whatsoever, also like every Chinese lately seem to be taking the piss with prices! No wonder the place was empty, had to nuke the lot as it was stone cold and then to add insult to injury found a dirty black hair in the ribs that was the final straw slung the lot!

Enjoyable Chinese takeaway, staff is nice and helpful for ordering.

What a fantastic Chinese! Tried them for the first time last night and we did order what I can now say was far too much food but we weren’t sure on the portions. The portions are brilliant and you really do not need a lot.

Shop front appearance is clean, tidy...inside, clean and tidy and friendly staff...food is good with decent portions

A very clean Chinese chippy with a full menu also for English meals also, very friendly staff, fast service and great food, been using this chippy for well over 25 years the best Chinese/chippy in the whole of westhoughton.

Always good food, service very quick , very clean & very wide choice on menu . Would recommend a visit 😊

Bought two bags of chips. In and out in under a minute. Prepared/packed chippy portions, not served fresh from the frier. Chips tasted OK, but clearly not fresh. It's a popular local chippy for sure, but it's not for me.

This is a brilliant Chinese Chippy and never been disappointed

Lovely fresh hot food, either chippy tea, or lovely Chinese chicken curry & rice 🍚 everyone's happy in our house.

Charged me for a large chips which she insisted id ordered. Clear miscommunication so no big deal. However my Singapore fried rice was greasy and the chicken in it was that horrible water injected stuff. The pot of curry sauce I got to go with it was almost tasteless. A few spoonfuls in and it went straight in the bin. Will not be returning. Total waste of a trip out and a tenner.

Food was great x not pricey and very tasty x we had sausage, chips and gravy! Yummy x

Absolutely disgusting food, I asked if they used a NAAN bread for their kebabs they said yes, so I ordered one, got back and it was in a pitta bread which was falling apart, and it tasted like it was off, so I spat it out and threw it away, never coming here again they lied to me and served me off food very disappointing

Great experience and food. We have family over from Canada and they thoroughly enjoyed the food and staff were great! Food was hot and very good priced! Would definitely recommend!

Been here many times for both traditional and Chinese food. Sadly everything we have had, both my self, my wife and daughters ( daughters incidentally live away from home) all have reported over the last two years has been poor. I have left putting reviews on as people always say, give it another try. No more. It is poor. On ALL accounts.

Average food. I was hungry and needed food and no over place I could see around so I whent in. The service is good the staff are OK but the food is just average I could done better at home.

Fantastic food....we love both their English and Chinese food. They've obviously been affected by higher costs as prices have gone up quite a bit recently but still good value for money.

Only tried the chippy menu, the fish is really good, the chips were a bit soggy which I know is some people's taste but not my favourite.

Ordered ribs and wings got around 3 of each which were also bland wouldn't give it a second chance absolute terrible

Very good chippy and Chinese food is good but I've got limited experience on anything but chow mein and fried rice dishes..

Honestly...vile. Rude woman on the counter and chips busted up and hardly cooked. Obviously semi pre cooked and thrown in a basin etc then just reheated. Everything swimming in grease. Definitely won't be back.

Thought we would give this chippy a go and bloomin hell it was good!! Big size potions good value for money, sausage and fish were spot on, chips are soft like soggy like just how i like them. 5* charlies. Ignore all negative comments their just being karens!!

No that's not the reason. My reason for the low rating is because my food was extremely well done the only flavour I could taste was burnt food it went in the bin after one mouthful

Ordered veg spring rolls and got chicken. I haven't eaten meat in about 4 years and I've never thrown up as violently. When I called up to explain they gave us chicken rather than veg there wasn't even an apology, this place doesn't deserve even the 1 star. Won't be going back. Following the response from the owners - we ordered over the phone so whoever took the order down had obviously done so wrongly. I don't know why the business is trying to guilt me about businesses going through a tough time at the moment - all the more reason for you to pay attention when taking orders and deliver the correct items to avoid issues like this. I was unwell for 2 days following this. Of course I didn't take the order back - I'm not wasting more time dealing with their mistake, and I was too unwell to drive there. Not my fault so not my problem to resolve. I would also like to reiterate, there was no apology on the phone call whatsoever, and the woman who took the call was incredibly impolite. It seems from other reviews they've had the same issue with her attitude, and now I'm experiencing the same attitude in response to this honest review and they still won't take responsibility.

Very efficient. Very friendly. Well priced and very clean. The lightly battered fish are as good as I have tasted.

Customer service skills leave a lot to be desired by some members of staff, it was simply unacceptable, it doesn't cost much to be civil and converse in a respectful tone when there are simple language barriers or not sure exactly what you're ordering (Covid 19 or not), having said that, the food was really nice, 5 stars for the food, 0 for customer service.

The fish are superb and massive.

Best Salt n Pepper wings bar none.

My wife has just returned with one fish and a bag of chips £9.20 Not sure if it was a genuine error but the covid measures rely on accurate order packing and I don't think that is happening

The excellent food, a stone's throw from home. Oh my lord, they give you toooo many chips.

All of the Staff from Adore use Charlies Chippy on a regular basis. The food is excellent, freshly cooked and there is a vast choice of menu to suit most people's pallets. The staff are extremely friendly and are happy to cater for all choices. Keep up the great work guys, see you all soon.

I have to give it a one not on the food but how rude one of the women who serve was to my granddaughter . We sat in the car waiting while my 13 year old granddaughter went in . We noticed that people were going in and coming out but our granddaughter didn't. I got out of the car to look for her when she came out upset . She said when it was her turn to be served the lady would ask the person behind her what they wanted. She said it was so embarrassing a customer apologised to her after he got served because he thought she was waiting for an order. My granddaughter was just about to walk out when an older lady came from the back and served her. My granddaughter is a lovely kind kid . She was doing her grandparents a favour going in for us . What a bad example to set a young girl. We won't be going again .

The food is so tasty, we eat from here quite a lot as it's the best chippy in the area! Always clean and the staff are friendly, definitely 5 stars!

Good gear always a good scran at good prices! Avoid the old lady though bit tight with the chips! Update 02/02/19 went there tonight and the same old bag ripped me off for 2 cans of tango! As shifty as a jackdaw! Last time she stitched me up for a portion of fried rice! Check ur bag if the old bat serves you that's it you've lost a customer!

Worst sweet and sour I've ever had chicken dripping in grease with cold fried rice, no hint of sweet just vinegar,didn't even have any pineapple and peppers in the sauce when I was told there would 😡
