Charlie's Fish and Chips in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Really disappointing, 2/3 portions of food were tepid, batter soggy on the bottom, fish bites dried up, sausages not hot and greasy. The portion of freshly cooked cod was by contrast delicious. The dog had a feast

Absolutely outstanding fish and chips! Crispy yet fluffy chips cooked to perfection, beautiful fresh fish with the lightest batter. We also had pineapple fritters, which were the best we've ever tasted. We found Charlie's by chance after reading a blog recommendation as a last-minute dinner, we were so impressed we went back again on our holiday. Huge thank you to the staff for being so kind and friendly. You are really great ambassadors for Truro and your business.

I have always loved the fish and chips from Charlies - but not any more. Maybe the business has been sold, but unfortunately the quality of the food and the way it is cooked has changed a great deal recently. The fish was always really crisp and fresh - perfect balance of crispy batter and perfectly cooked creamy fish. I have been 3 times recently and it is just not the same. I find the batter soggy and the fish mediocre - no longer the outstanding meals I always came to expect. Chips are also only mediocre. Such a shame.

My parents have recently moved from north Cornwall down towards Truro and after a really busy day we were all desperate for something quick! We googled and seen that Charlie’s was a quick drive away, we rang up and ordered (there was 15 of us, so it could have been chaotic!) and then went to collect, I have to say; it’s the best fish and chips I’ve ever had! We all agreed! Fast forward a couple of weeks and we decided this evening to have it again, wondering whether it was a bit of a ‘fluke’ - ordered, said it would be ready within 10 mins, it was! Back home and again, absolutely fantastic food, the fish is so fresh, the chips are lovely, sauces are great, kids meals are spot on, honestly cannot fault anything! My brother in law also commented on how clean the place was and how friendly all the staff are. Absolutely smashing it guys and girls, well done!

Lovely fresh food cooked quickly. Big portions also, friendly staff. Fish and scampi were lovely. All serves very hot.

I normally get fish and chips here and it is usually very good. However this evening I ordered a pick up and I arrived at the 6-10 minute window as stated. The fish batter was wet and slimy and the fish overcooked. Also the chips were undercooked but I didn’t mention this. When I rang to politely explain this (the fish was inedible) I was just told it would have been because it had been waiting for a while, which seems strange as I arrived in time. I rang as I wanted to feedback rather than leave a bad review , but was really disappointed with the response. This is a real shame as I and my family were regular customers, and I used to recommend it. I won’t be getting a takeaway from here again. And I now have to cook myself a dinner when I had thought I’d treated myself!

Ordered for my son to pick up On his way home from work at 7.45 They were beautiful, even burnt my tongue on a chip!! We live in Mitchell. They were well priced as well. Definitely our new Fish and Chip shop!! Well Done Charlie’s

Been to Whitby, Brighton, Scotland. Charlie’s is up there with the best. Shame it took us a few years to find them. Be back soon.

We don't have fish & chips that often but l've got to say, they really know what they are doing big time. The fish was just glorious and the chips just perfectly cooked. It's the only plaice for us.

The actual best fish and chips I have had. The chips were a decent size and cooked to perfection. The curry sauce is delicious here as well

If you want a perfect fish and chips experience this is where you will find it. Quick efficient service from friendly staff. Cooked to order so hot fresh and absolutely yummy. We were on holiday staying just up the road will definitely visit again

When I lived in PZ I used to think there was nothing better than SeaView fish and chips but then I moved to Truro and found Charlies. Wow! Excellent quality food and great friendly service.

Charlie's has just opened in Mobberley in last 2 weeks. Have been twice now. The food is excellent, the chips perfect. The quality of the batter on the fish is perfect. Between myself, family and friends we've had most items on the menu now and they are all excellent. The staff are extremely friendly and clearly want customers to be happy and well fed. So happy we have a top tier proper fish and chip chop in the area now. I would encourage anyone within the Alderley Edge / Wilmslow / Mobberley area to give this fish and chip shop a try. I dont you'll be disappointed probably thrilled at the quality for the very fair pricing. Well done Charlies on opening something really quite special for the community to enjoy !

The best fish and chips for Truro for sure. Having lived just around the corner from Charlie’s for a few years, but never tried them, we thought we’d give their chips a go last night. I was greeted by two friendly hellos from staff as I entered the immaculately presented shop, was served immediately and received two delightful portions of fish and chips. The curry sauce we sampled was delicious, with just a hint of spice to it, and the fish was beautifully cooked. Some chip shop fish can be dry but this was perfectly succulent. The fact it’s all cooked in dripping is a perk for us as meat eaters. It’s not the cheapest in Truro, and I would love it if they delivered because let’s be honest that makes things easier, but I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to Charlie’s the next time we fancied fish and chips.

I have had several visits to Charlie’s . Excellent service, fine food but it very pricey . The portions were smaller than local competitors . Well run family business.
