Chaplins in Bournemouth

This venue was a wonderful experience. They went above and beyond to accommodate our allergies. The ambience was excellent. The Chaplin theme was incredible, the service was excellent. Laura was an incredible hostess and really looked after us. Live music every night.

Great unusual food (Sunday Slow Roast) great quirky place to eat, staff brilliant.

Really nice and enjoyable experience in this bar and restaurant, first rate and friendly staff and the food was good, and with live entertainment everynight downstairs in the cellar bar, makes a really nice venue for night out or afternoon and early evening, the theatre theme and charlie chaplin memorabilia everywhere was super cool and just adds to the nice feeling you get when your in the place, we will certainly go back next time we are down there.

Great atmosphere as always! Not too big a queue at the bar. We enjoyed the post-band disco, and spent time in the wonderfully quirky garden.

Best live music venue in bounemouth. The atmosphere is amazing. Its beautifully created, bohemian, sexy, artistic and humorously decorated. Everywhere you look its a delight. The colours are gorgeous, it's classy and sassy and creative. Its a special place, that houses excellent talent. Ive been blown away by the incredible artists that play there and such an amazing range of music. As well as it being a beautiful and special place that offers such varied entertainment, I feel completely at home in this venue and that's largely due to the excellent staff that run the ship, from doormen to bar staff and kitchen. All top notch service. As a female I feel completely safe as I know security are what it says on the tin. They're a great team, really astute, enabling customers to have a great time, free to let go and enjoy the music, yet looked out for, which is comforting. Theres a great range of drinks and beers and the food is delish!!! I like it that he owner takes pride in his place and spends time there, its like a surrogate family to many. When deciding where to live in this area there were two criteria..the sea and Chaplins. Its a Bournemouth treasure

Great and interesting menu - asparagus dish and sharing platters are delicious. Staff are very professional - all of them - but a special mention to Tommy and Amy. Bar staff were lovely too. Prices reasonable. Decor is amazing and was done by owner's wife.

Honestly, better than expected. We were in the area visiting mates, heard there was a band playing so decided to grab food before. Good, solid British classics. Decent portions, price wasn’t extortionate and staff were cracking jokes with us. Only downside, we could only pay cash and when I walked to the atm, a group of guys tried to take my money. Area certainly isn’t great.

Cool vibes, and lots of live music downstairs, although don't go to see the Priscilla's.

Friday night 8/4/23 great evening until at 21.20hrs I got pulled out for I don’t know what to be honest?? But after waiting outside chaplins while the security investigated for 30 minutes I was eventually allowed back in, but when I asked the security they said we can’t say but a misunderstanding!!! My Girlfriend whose was sat inside was rather bemused, so hopefully Harry who is in charge can have a civilised chat with me about this?? as not a good look & rather embarrassing on all account’s!!! Otherwise I won’t be going back spending my money in chaplins in future!!!

Good atmosphere and friendly people, also an interesting garden. Lots of real ales and ciders. The food is great.

I stopped in for some food before a gig at the 02 and it was very busy. I was on my own and the friendly staff was able to seat me for dinner. Food and drink was very good and the staff friendly with good service! The decor and atmosphere is so fun. Cool bar area downstairs also. If I'm back in the area I will definitely go here again!

Good drinks. Didn't have anything to eat. For the price, I would have like a glass, not a plastic cup.

Took my wife out for an anniversary meal. We both had a fantastic meal with excellent and very friendly service. Well definitely going again.

I booked a table for 8 on a busy Friday night. We had a 5.15pm booking with a deadline of 7.00pm for us to get into a concert in the O2 Academy nearby. Christian and his team looked after us very well, with 2 other groups in the house as well. The food was excellent quality; the benefits of a small menu, dishes are well prepared and cooked and delicious. The lamb, the burgers and the fish and chips were all excellent. The service was prompt and charming, they got us through in time and we'd all be happy to go back again. I'm happy to highly recommend this Charlie Chaplin themed restaurant and cellar bar.

My wife and I ate here last night. Fantastic atmosphere, roaring fire, interesting company and great food. The service was relaxed, attentive and excellent. We squeezed in for a quick dinner before a gig at the O2.

A little wacky with their bright colours and interesting art, but nothing could take our attention away from the meal. We had the lamb which was not only delicious but easily adaptable for gf and df. The staff were very friendly and accomadating. We couldn't have asked for better. Thank you.

Spend an hour or two in Chaplin’s and you’ll witness the whole spectrum of life passing before your eyes. There is such an eclectic mix of people, yet everyone is always so friendly, that in Chaplin’s you reach an experience that is beyond the limits of basic humanity. Chaplin’s is much more than a pub, and more than a college bar, it is alive with people of all ages and as you become aware of the wonder of life at its fullest you feel welcomed by all. My wife and I find ourselves talking freely to people older than us, and people younger than us, and people down on their luck for one reason or another, and people who life has obviously been very kind to. You’ll find people with beautiful and creative tattoos, another person who looks as though he’s stepped straight out of the Beat Generation of the 50s with dark glasses, polo-neck and a goatee beard, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see people in bow ties and evening dresses walk through the door. Yet no one looks out of place! The restaurant is fabulous, the food really special, yet many people don’t even know it exists because they close their doors about 9.30 – 10 p.m., so if you’re a late visitor you won’t even know about it but trust me it’s worth trying. Plus, there’s a variety of music on most nights. Downstairs in the Cellar Bar it’s a little too loud for my liking on a Saturday night, but it’s a cracking bar the rest of the week with a diverse choice of live musicians. The staff are a joy in themselves, but again, it’s the beautiful, intense, and colourful clientele that make Chaplin’s so special. We found ourselves discussing one in particular, who could have been a vicar, then again, he could have been a Tai Chi or King Fu master. We never found out. The husband of an elderly couple we got chatting to turns out to be running a boxing club. Chaplin’s is alive! It’s alive as if the whole energy of Boscombe is trapped within its walls. I spoke to a chap whose story broke my heart, yet meanwhile other people stopped by our table to say hello and talk for a minute or two. Dig deeper into Chaplin’s and you’ll find psychics, weirdos, comedians, and the lost souls this holiday town embraces. Some are low-spirited it’s true, while others are talkative, bubbly, cheery and zingy. Maybe it’s the décor, which is something to behold, variegated in the extreme with countless effigies of Charlie Chaplin. But maybe it’s just Boscombe. Chaplin’s is a safe haven amongst the absurdity of Boscombe. I can’t recommend it enough!

Really disappointing on my way out to the smoking area, my drink got knocked out of my hand. That I just brought and they wouldn't give me a refill. Most places would do so, it's a bad streak of luck that happens to someone a couple of times in their life and it really sucks when you've just paid £5 for a drink when it does and to not give a refill is a horrible thing to do.

Was sceptical about going to Chaplains, mainly because of its location, but have to say it was a little gem. Fantastic service, fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere. Absolutely packed, says it all. Will definitely be going back.

I was asked to leave , but don't know why , but I believe in the staff and all others on the pay roll , they have ALWAYS been there for me and 100% always helped me with my physical disabilities , and getting around the pub site , I would recommend this bar - pub to anyone and everyone , very friendly , I can't sing their praises enough , love them so much 0

We were lucky enough to go to Boscombe for my school half-term (in October) and even more fortunate to stumble across Chaplin’s on our first evening there. It was so lovely that we went back twice again. Arthur looked after us each time and Erin (who was quite new, I think) was a wonderful waitress too. They were friendly, yet professional. The food was delicious and the decor is second to none. A definite must if you’re in the Boscombe Bournemouth neighbourhoods. We will definitely return…

Chaplins is the place to be in Boscombe, there is a fun quirky vibe, the staff are very friendly and extra helpful, live music is on every night, blasting out different tube vibes like you've never seen before. DEFO WORTH A VISIT "5 STARS"

I went in just for a drink. Where I sat near the bar there were so many bar flies it was horrible. The staff should be cleaning more. It's a shame because otherwise it would be a lovely place for a drink.

Unique pub, great selection of drinks. Can get very busy so be prepared to queue.

Wow again. 6 of is had Sunday roast. Yummy. Lovely staff, great venue. £22 per person for 3 courses, where can you get that price!!! Meals were superb thanks to the chef. Highly recommended.

This is a great pub, it has such characters and decor, the outside seating area tiers up the back of the building and looks splendid, the service is great and the bar staff are engaging,friendly and efficient inside is welcoming and warm,I honestly was surprised what a good pub this is,well done Chaplins.we didn't eat here this time but I can't wait to visit again!

Loved this pub! Quirky, colourful and friendly, the place appealed to me straight away. The beer was good and the atmosphere warm.

The fabulous decor is the best point about this bar. The food and beer were absolutely fine but my word the service was unbelievably slow. The excuse was that two tables arrived suddenly which doesn't explain the 25 minute wait for our drinks when there was only one other customer in the room. Definitely room for improvement.

Foods dead. Found a hair, 2 boys felt Ill after we ate. Pie and mash was dry, burger was dry ,fish smelt like death. Only redeeming factor was that they served alcohol so you could forget your time there.

Eaten here twice now and both times have been brilliant! Food is superb, service is fab and the atmosphere is vibrant! The detail in the decor is my favourite part. A lot of love and effort has gone in to this place and it definitely needs to be visited to be appreciated!

Food was mediocre, and the manager floated around the tables with the countenance of Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers. At least the beer was good. The decor was a bit over embellished.

Went for a one off night out and I’m definitely going back! The staff were so friendly and the environment was incredible especially as it isn’t my usual, I still felt included! Even drinking a lemonade was amazing quality and friendly staff One of the bartenders were so quick to clear up empty cups and refill!

Ok arrival deceiving on the outside walking through the doors wow amazing blew us away to decor atmosphere food all was top class I had the burger my husband the pie omg the chunks of beef wow he said the taste was amazing to the drinks and puddings I had apple berry crumble and the ice cream to die for and such a reasonable price and the man front of house was spot on he was the right person for the job he took it to another level would we go back oh definitely thank you. The Cellar Bar is very small, but it doesn't stop them putting on live music. It makes the music experience much more personal. There's sometimes a small charge at the door when there's music on, but often only after 10.00pm. There is always a good selection of beer, which changes on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis. Upstairs in Chaplin's, it's a fairly cosy town pub that serves excellent quality food and beer. 2023 update: Chaplins have opened the premises next door as a restaurant. I haven't eaten there as yet, but an award-winning, independent pub isn't likely to get it wrong.

For many years I have walked past this place thinking it's probably a bit of a dive, but on entering I was blown away by it's 1930's Art Deco style and the effort that has gone into making this such a brilliant theme bar. To be honest I, like Rowan Atkinson in Black Adder never found Chaplin funny, but that's not the point here. The lattes were great and I enjoyed looking at the various rooms to entertain and dine. Brilliant for groups and private parties. Friendly service. I will return and only hope the food is as good as the decor of this simply amazing quirky cosy bar/ restaurant. fidelscastrol.

incredible! the best pub un Bournemouth! Alive music.

took my step daughter here last night, for a meal in Modern Times. She is over from Grand Cayman, where food is a big thing. This surpassed everything we have eaten out there, when we visit. The staff were friendly. The food was fabulous , so tasty and great value. Good sized portions . Nice relaxed atmosphere. I always recommend this restaurant to all of my guests who visit my guest house. Never had a bad comment made. The only decent place to go for a beer in the center of town

Great quirky pub in Boscombe town centre, with really friendly staff. Outside, there is a beer garden, and the cellar is just as interesting, where they have bands and singer songwriters performing. A very relaxed atmosphere 😊

Great place for Drinks and food!

£5.50 for the worst drinks in Bournemouth. Flat beer. Plastic glasses. Went twice this weekend and awful each time. Staff also far from welcoming.

One of the bests Sunday lunches I have had for many years! This is a very well kept secret. Recommended by a friend we took the chance of popping by for lunch. WOW!!! What and amazing place, staff are welcoming, fun and so attentive. The food is too die for! Very well cooked, fresh ingredients, generous portions and excellent value for money. Will definitely be returning and recommending to all. Well done guys and thank you.

Great evening at this venue very different

This place is a true hidden gem. We'd been past on the bus a thousand times but never been in, today we took the plunge and were so glad we did. If you like chain bars, this isn't the place for you, as it is individual, quirky and welcoming, with friendly and efficient service, great decor packed with Charlie Chaplin themed art and spectacular food. We visited on a Sunday and had the most beautiful roast dinner, freshly cooked, hot and delicious. For a couple of quid more we added a pudding each, which were generous and plate-lickingly good. However, the best part of our visit was the service and welcome from the staff, who couldn't do enough to ensure we enjoyed our stay as much as they clearly enjoyed their work. Don't be fooled, Boscombe doesn't have the best reputation, and from the outside you might pass Chaplins by, but step over the threshold as we did and you'll not be disappointed.

Delicious meal for two, at reasonable prices and excellent service. I had a starter which was a perfect size for a small bite and the meat in my husbands pie was good quality and lots of it. Drinks and vibe are cool which we often enjoy but we will be back for food again

This is one of my favourite places for a drink and the live music is good...I love the vibe. I highly recommend trying the boscombe brewery! Or any other Dorset local breweries there. After having your first pint , you feel really good and after the second one , you feel even better 😁😁😁🍻🍻🍻

We turned up here as a group of women in our 30s and 40s as part of a hen do. This was our first bar so we were not particularly rowdy or anything, just keen to have a few drinks prior to moving on to a planned activity. Whilst the server who initially saw us seemed friendly and polite, another turned up and promptly (and rudely) turned us away as "they don't accept hen or stag dos." What a disappointing way to be treated especially as the bar was very quiet and so could have easily accommodated us. Judging by some of the most recent reviews though perhaps they did us a favour.

I really like this place. The beer garden is really nice and they often have live music on downstairs. Beer selection is great too and the food is very good. I'd definitely recommend coming here for food and drink, probably during the day though rather than the evening.

Was going to recommend this place. We only found it yesterday. Sat in a beautiful beer garden went back that night had a great meal. Following night I got thrown out for being 'unsteady on my feet' I'm 58 and got stung on the bottom of my foot earlier. Good luck anyone who's disabled. Disgraceful ageism. Had dinner here before going to a gig at the 02, then returned after. Ordered a burger and when served it was still 'pink' in the middle. Staff blame this on the place be so busy before the concert!? They then served a new burger. Its a great bar and will return.

Characterful pub/restaurant. Great themed decor. Menu caters for most tastes/requirements. Food was good, I had the veg & lentil wellington, nice & tasty with plenty of veg on the side. Other dish was a Chaplin burger which was very good & enjoyed. A few "tweeks"...
