Nice restaurant. They have plenty of seatings outside and downstairs. Went for breakfast. Not huge selection. Tea was good.

I had just been to the chemist shop almost next door and exiting bumped into a friend. We went to Chaplais - very busy outside in the sunshine but empty downstairs. We were early for lunch which Chef doesn’t start until noon. But we ordered wine and perused the menu my friend had a delicious prawn and avocado salad and I had a coronation chicken baguette both were delicious and well presented. Wine was excellent and the service from the young Italian girl perfect. Well done for getting so much right that many get so wrong.

Absolutely delicious food, in a beautifully decorated restaurant, complete with fairy lights outside. It’s a shame they do not have a single vegetarian option for their main or pasta dishes on their dinner menu. Unfortunately, a few pizza offerings are your only option (they are very tasty!) but would be lovely if there was a little more variety to choose from.

The food was lovely, however we had to ask waiter for water for the table as none offered. We then had to sit through a 40 minute business meeting via two people and their laptop at 8 in the evening. Not what you expect in the evening and they were not quiet . Waiting staff just allowed it to continue. Atmosphere thus was awful. Complained to waitress at the end who apologized but knew what was going on

Fantastic cakes and good coffee, served until 9pm with the option of heated pavement seating. It's just a bit pricey - £20 for coffee and cake for two - to do it more than rarely.

Food was overcooked, tough and overdone, bread was under toasted. Servers were unfriendly and coffee bitter. Did not finish meal.

We have been frequently visiting Chaplais kitchen for quite a while. However we had the best experience at the restaurant this afternoon, served by Charlie! He was very sweet and we believe that he deserves to be complimented! The food was especially fresh today and the pizza was delicious. We strongly recommend the pepperoni pizza and mussels. The music choice was also amazing and today’s experience made us like this restaurant even more. Thank you Charlie!

Went here for dinner and it was absolutely delicious! Had the lasagne, chips and pizza - you can tell these were made with fresh and high quality ingredients! We loved it so much we went back for breakfast the next day! Definitely recommend!

Lovely casual restaurant with fresh food and amazing ingredients followed by delicious desserts and lovely hot chocolate.

Came with a party of three on a Saturday evening with high hopes. Small but pleasant enough surroundings. Ordered French Onion soup and humous to start and we all chose Cottage pie for our mains. These should be simple enough dishes for any decent kitchen. Soup was okay, although the cheese wasn’t melted onto the croutons to create the crust you expect. Humous was also tasty enough. Sadly, the cottage pies were a massive letdown. All three were served at the same time and all three were very different temperatures. The pie appeared to have a bolognese sauce as it’s base which was unwelcome when what you want is a hearty British meal on an crisp autumn night. The consistency of each pie was also very different, from firm to soupy. Imagine Goldilocks going cottage pie tasting and you’ll get the idea. We would have complained to the staff if any single one of them had done what you expect and come to ask how our food was. But they didn’t. Indifference or inexperience? Hard to tell. We ordered a bottle of red to go with the meal, and it was probably the star of the show. One last comment… We booked a table here after checking their menu out on their website. On the website, our main courses were priced at £17 and our wine at £24 per bottle. In the restaurant, they were £22 for the mains and £27 for the wine. When we paid the bill we mentioned all the above and were offered a 10% discount. That’s not as much as the price increase from their online to in-house menu. These folks need to remember that they are not in the business of serving food to people, but serving people with food.

We decided to sit downstairs rather than outside because it was cold. This was a mistake because although we were assured we would be served, we had to go to the serving area to order to order breakfast and then had to reorder our coffee as it didn’t arrive until we had eaten the breakfast! - we were forgotten and had to remind the waitress who was clearly not busy! This was a pity because the breakfast was cooked well.

Main course was fine but NO choice for desert as I have a nut allergy. Either the sweets I wanted had nuts in or were unavailable. It would have been nice to have been offered a complementary ice-cream but no, even though that was all that was available I had to pay for it. Expensive ice-cream!

Came here for a late breakfast. There wasn't much variety for breakfast but their lunch and dinner options seems more exciting. We ordered The Works and American pancakes which were nice but nothing spectacular. Their Cotswold bacon in The Works and the American pancakes were so delicious. Perfect level of crispiness. The shop also had lots of sandwiches and other deli options to choose from. Will definitely give those a go next time.

We regularly eat at Chaplais. One of our favourite places. We went to their Thursday Tapas evening which has live music from very talented young musicians the last two times we’ve been. The Tapas was great and with the music made it a real holiday type feel. Would highly recommend.

This year I've started my birthday with a super lush brunch here! My partner was initially heading for a different place, but they were not open at that time, so we decided to stay at Chaplais and it was a way better choice. Luckily it is a dog friendly place and they were happy to provide some fresh water for our springer. The food came really fast and I super enjoyed the British breakfast. I liked that the beans came in a little pot, not mixed with the rest of the food which is always a plus. The toast was thin and crispy, something you don't see every so often. The prices are very reasonable considering it's in a nice area. I will surely come back as I've noticed some good-looking cakes that I'd like to try. Yum!

What a lovely relaxed place with great food. I was looking for somewhere to go for a belated birthday lunch and wanted casual dining with a reasonable range of food. Just looking at the food on display as I went in suggested this was going to be a good experience. We were in no rush and the pace of the meal was gentle though we never felt forgotten. The food was excellent and the wine good quality at a reasonable price. The mussels were some of the best I have ever had so all credit to them in terms of where they source their ingredients. My salad was excellent and beautifully presented. This restaurant has gone to the top of my list of places in Cheltenham for casual dining during the day and early evening.

Lovely hidden gem serving a menu of mainly comfort food classics at reasonable prices. My wife and I had three great courses and thoroughly enjoyed it. Rack of ribs was the largest we'd ever seen and was beautifully cooked. Thai mushroom soup and anti pasti starters were generous and tasty, and I loved the Affogato. It was very simple as expected but also served with a coffee tequilla too, which made it stand out. Other patrons' food also looked and smelt fantastic (pizza, cheeseboard, pasta). Lovely Aperol Spritz and wine accompanied the meal, and staff were friendly and efficient. We'll definitely be back for a meal but will also try a sandwich or pastry for lunch, which will be nice sat in the outside seating area. It may not be an obvious choice but is certainly serving delicious food.

Dog friendly inside and out, good food friendly service.

My wife and I had a delightful supper at the Chaplais Kitchen on Montpelier where we both had the handmade fresh pizza which was excellent along with a very nice red wine and desert to finish. We sat outside under the warm glow of the heaters and wool blankets. The service was good and the staff friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommended.

Sister to the Maison Charolais deli on Tivoli. Delightful find, lovely downstairs area. Cakes etc are superb and the bread amazing (best sourdough ever). Staff are friendly and welcoming!

Called in for a cuppa and a light lunch even though they were busy the service was prompt and food delicious.

Last minute drop-in for four adults and two children for late lunch in an almost full restaurant. Attentive staff where nothing was too much trouble. Happy to modify/change dishes for the children and offered half portions without being asked. Food was excellent quality with pricing on the menu rounded out to whole numbers so easy to estimate what we were spending. Even provided non-dairy ice cream. Easy going atmosphere, not at all rushed but staff always available to help when needed. Will definitely go again.

Great decor. Service and food were ok, but the price was too high for what I got. £17 for a small fish pie and salad and around £8.50 for a glass of red. I was the only diner there and felt a bit underfed.

Three of us for Saturday breakfast eating in the basement restaurant. Service was friendly and food and drinks arrived quickly. The full breakfast that my friend had looked delicious and my bacon roll with crispy streaky bacon was very nice. There is outdoor seating for warmer days and plenty on offer to take away. Definitely worth a visit

3rd time ordering Chaplais Kitchen via Deliveroo and 3rd time left disappointed. Crazy long wait time (over an hour each time for 2 bacon sandwiches) and the food always arrived cold. The food is always of good quality, but it seems they can’t maintain the in shop standards when using food deliveries.

Great food and friendly staff. I had Normandy Pork and my wife had a pizza, both were great. We shared mussels for starters which was very aromatic.

Always a winner every time we have eaten here. Very friendly service and high quality food from the kitchen. European deli style, great pasta, pizza, also open for breakfast. Also does homemade sandwiches to go from the fridge.

My family and I had a superb lunch here. I had stunning moules frites (gorgeous, plump mussels in a creamy sauce with subtle Thai flavours and perfect fries) and my son had a pizza, which completely delighted him. The food served here is the kind that makes you want to come back again and again until you have tried everything on the menu. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, and there was an excellent range of seating. Also, the toilets were genuinely the nicest ones I have ever been to! We bought sinfully large and delicious muffins to take away, and are checking the diary to see when we can next visit. I will end with the words my son whispered to me when we were about to leave: "That was the best lunch I ever had."

Chaplais Kitchen in Montpellier is splendid. Great Bistro menu, lovely informal setting. Seating outside by one of Cheltenham's more picturesque streets, or downstairs inside. Very good value and very high quality. Must book to be certain of a spot at busy times. Highly recommended.

Amazing experience and the staff were wonderful. The food was great too. We regularly have the deserts from here as they’re probably some of the best we have tried along with the pizzas. Surprised by the negative reviews and the cost, well it’s Montpellier so the rent will be high and the business has to make a profit and given the quality of the foods, I imagine the ingredients do not come cheap.

I dont normally leave reviews, but quite possibly the worst food I've tasted . The starter was cold bread sliced up with horrible olive oil. I ordered a pepperoni pizza and got a margherita. Even that was absolutely horrible . They said next time I come I can get a pizza for free, but I was never going to pay for a pizza I didn't order , and so they took that one pizza off the bill. The two stars are for the waitresses who were really nice and apologetic. The guy who I think owns the restaurant needs to check himself

This is absolutely my favorite place to go. Its beautifully decorated, the staff are always friendly. Its lovely to sit outside and people watch as its a little sun trap.

One of my favourite Cheltenham restaurants hands down! Beautiful food everytime (I even went twice in one day!), they also do food to take away which is great in lockdown and was always made within 15-20 mins. The staff are lovely, chefs come out to check how the food is, really wonderful Al fresco eating outside experience as well as a cosy and intimate atmosphere inside too. Really feel like it's a hidden gem in Cheltenham!
