Chao phraya in Glasgow City

We booked the 9.45pm - 11.45pm reservation slot. Thinking this would give us plenty of time to enjoy a relaxed anniversary dinner - how wrong were we! We received a telephone call at 9.46pm asking where we were. They then proceeded to tell us that they could no longer accommodate our reservation as the kitchen closes at 9.45pm. We were outside the restaurant at this point. After a few words back and fourth, they honoured the booking. Once inside and order placed, they told us our starters and mains would be served at the same time to allow the kitchen to close. Why advertise a 2hr table slot if you are not willing to accommodate!? We were made to feel like an inconvenience. Made to feel like we were holding the staff back. It was very uncomfortable. My husband and I rushed our food so quickly, I felt sick. I was so disappointed with the attitude of the staff, particularly the one who called us. Thank you for ruining our 10th wedding anniversary meal Chaophraya!

Beautiful Setting, Disappointing Experience The restaurant itself looks stunning—10/10 for ambiance. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended for us. We waited 30 minutes before being asked if we wanted drinks or food, while the table opposite received prompt service and Thai crackers we didn’t receive any. Maybe we were just overlooked, but it wasn’t a great start. The food was average; the lamb massaman was nice, but nothing stood out. We had the set menu, and service remained painfully slow throughout. They even forgot our desserts, which we had to take home. To top it off, we waited another 20 minutes just to get the bill. Overall, the experience was underwhelming. The food was okay, but with service this slow and inconsistent, we wouldn’t return.

The decor is incredible and makes the restaurant an impressive experience for dinner. The food is lovely and the service was really good.

Ce n’était pas mauvais mais ce n’était pas exceptionnel non plus. Mon collègue n’a pas aimé ses plats. La soupe était trop salée et mes entrées vapeurs étaient comme du caoutchouc. Le service n’était pas terrible. Je n’y retournerai pas

Was really looking forward to this as i love Thai Food. Ordered and it came very quickly. All looked good but it was dissapointing. Triple spiced fries were hard, coconut rice was stodgy. It just felt like it wss all made and put in microwave to heat up. Probably wasnt but thats what it felt like. Overall dissapointing. Other point is menu is very hard to read, due to lighting. Personal opinion, wont be back

Booked Chaophraya for my wife's 30th birthday and I'm glad I did. I arranged beforehand for a glass each of prosecco to be on the table for us arriving, these were given to us at the table and turned out to be complementary which was a nice touch. Food was of a very high standard and well presented and portion sizes very really good. Beef curry was fantastic as were the pork ribs to start. Desserts were also really good and were very filling. Nice touch from the staff to bring out a cake for my wife at the end of the meal to celebrate her birthday. Will definitely come back for another visit as the setting, food and staff made it memorable

We met friends for lunch - what a beautiful setting! This is a very opulent looking restaurant (don’t be put off if you’re not dressed up!!) serving delicious Thai food and cocktails! The service was friendly and relaxed!

Great location and lovely staff but it took almost two hours from arrival to receive our main course. Tasted great but slow service and loud dance music left us not keen to return.

Food was delicious and everyone in party enjoyed it. Staff were courteous and very friendly and helpful. Such a lovely place.

Delicious mango+cucumber salad, red duck curry, prawn crackers, sticky rice, and southern stir fried curry. Service was good. The location is fantastic and the building is gorgeous!

Lovely food but service and cleanliness are substandard. The person who originally served us was A. Rude and looked unhappy. B. Disappeared after taking the starter order and never came back to take note of the main. This is a real pity as we thought we were taking our friends to a nice and trusted restaurant.

Personal unaufmerksam, kein Nachschenken von Wein, Abservieren während des Essens. Speisen top! Toilette ein Disaster! Laufender Wasserhahn, Unterwäsche am Boden!! Handtuch lag am Boden. Sicher kein Regelfall, habe aber Personal informiert. Wurde mit dem Kommentar, bin weiblich, kann Toilette nicht kontrollieren, abgetan!

visited on Saturday afternoon. Booked a table on the website. We ordered a glass of wine and an Isle of Harris gin. couple minutes later the waiter came back to say they didn’t have enough isle of harris for a full drink. I thought this would be in stock seeing as it’s £16 a drink. ordered a hendricks instead which was nice enough We ordered a sharing platter for two plus sweetcorn fritters and ribs Sharing platter had chicken tacos, spring rolls, chicken satay, tempura prawns and duck salad. Food was fresh, tasty and high quality. the sweetcorn fritters were my favourite. Everyone around us food looked amazing too. Bill was £70. we have been a few times before and never had a bad meal.

Definitely worth a visit and next time we return to Scotland we will definitely re visit and bring some friends.

Pagamos una visita aquí a la hora del almuerzo. En ese momento hay un menú de 2 platos por 15 libras, o 18 libras por 3 platos. Quizás no es el más barato de las ofertas de comida, pero estás justo en el centro de la ciudad de Glasgow y se paga más.

Spicy Fried Rice with Chicken and Basil was fantastic. Besides the good food, the service is excellent.

We went here on a day to glasgow. Food was delicious and so fresh tasting. Staff really nice and a very relaxing atmosphere. Def be back

Yo organizar cada 3 meses un almuerzo con ex-compañeros míos de British Airways. Alguien sugirió que para probar la comida tailandesa para un cambio. Yo habia pasado por río Chaophraya muchas veces y pensé que debería probarlo. No nos decepcionó. Una cálida bienvenida a su llegada a un restaurante muy bonito. El servicio fue excelente, los precios razonables y la comida era espléndida. Sin duda volveremos.

Este lugar parece ESTUPENDO desde el exterior y tenía ganas de visitar. La decoración es genial y la acogida amable. Por desgracia, la comida no es nada especial. No hay nada malo en ello, pero no se puede comparar con otros restaurantes que bien tailandesa. En general nos dejó un poco decepcionados.

This restaurant has been designed and decorated to look amazing, which really sets the mood for the experience. The food is fantastic! My favourite is Thai green curry and is by far the best green curry ever!

Un bonito restaurante con techos increíble. Muy elegante restaurante tailandés. Mesa para conseguir mesa para dos personas con vista es todo el restaurante. Sopa de coco pollo era excelente. Pad Thai fue una decepción como fideos en salsa. Aún la comida era bastante buena que comimos allí dos veces durante mi visita y lo disfruté realmente. Ánimo pollo era excelente. Tenía menú fijo para el almuerzo. Panceta de cerdo era excelente

Fiquei surpresa com a alta qualidade do restaurante. Indo na hora do almoço há uma fórmula que inclui entrada, prato principal e sobremesa que é muito barata. Comidas saborosas e atendimento impecável. Imperdível!

Fuimos a cenar con mi amigo. elegimos el menú 15 libras. Nos registramos en línea antes de ir y el menú en línea especificado que 1 bebida estaba incluido, pero el camarero dijo que no estaba incluido. Tuve bolas y fideos de marisco picante... nada de sabor, muy sosa... El restaurante es increíble y el personal es muy atento, pero realmente no es mi favorito.

Wonderful building,especially inside. Exquisitely nice dining room with high ceilings,chandeliers etc. Service was first rate from a variety of young people,both native and foreign. Wide choice of dishes,including banquets and a la carte. ONLY grouse was,whatever you ordered,you seemed to get more or less the same vegetables-green and red peppers and onions,primarily. They were nice but a bit samey and not particularly Thai,compared with other Thai res we've visited. Overall,though,a magnificent venue,nice food,lovely staff.

This restaurant serves the most amazing Thai food I have ever tasted as well as yummy cocktails and great wine.The food was delicious - highly recommend it.

Very good menu choices. I had two starters (instead of a starter and main course) and both were excellent. Service was excellent. Comfortable seating with not too much noise.

Hi.2nd time here and always make sure you get a booth by the window. Great people watching.Thai beer good.Satay starter very good and my relative always gets the Jungle Soup with extra chillies.Not a 5 star review this time as black pudding was very oily / greasy this time and not that nice.Overall great location, food and service .Will be back but I'll avoid the black pudding.

What a great meal. Three of us enjoyed starters of Tempura prawns, veg spring rolls and Chicken Satay.Mains were Chilli Cod, Lamb shank in yellow bean sauce and Thai Green Chicken ( asked for medium, definitely could have been spicier).Despite the restaurant being absolutely brim full, service was prompt and welcoming.Definitely going back again soon.

The service was wonderful, and the food first class. We paid more than I would usually fork our for a meal, but it was worth it. The staff were welcoming even though we were not dressed appropriately for such a high class restaurant.

3rd visit and once again the food was excellent. Have only given 4 stars as the initial service was slow. I was sitting (with a menu) for 10 minutes, it was not busy - before I managed to get the eye of the waitress who obviously thought she was too good to be there. I placed my order and she said 'eez very hot, OK?" - well I'm in a Thai restaurant what did I expect? The drink I ordered was sparkling water and as if on auto pilot she asked small or big? This was lunchtime and I was eating alone..........how did she think I'd cope with a litre of water, maybe to counter the 'very hot' dish?Anyway great value for money and the speed at which food was served was good.

Have heard a lot about this place and have never had the chance to visit. The building is incredible - huge place. It was really busy when we were there but we had a quick drink in the bar and then were seated. Food was amazing, didn't get to try the champagne cocktails but will definitely return to taste these soon!

I travel to Thailand very often, it was a pleasant surprise to find a Thai restaurant in the heart of Glasgow which produced such high level of food. The establishment is very posh, you can see they spent a lot of money here. Very clean, delicious food, very good choice of drinks. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because the music let it down. When you are in such a lovely Thai restaurant the music should be Thai not Western.

I love this place. The location is great for a bite to eat while out shopping, also handy for the Royal Concert Hall. It's set in a beautiful building and the food is great. Good choice and value for money.

Everything about this restaurant is classy. The building is beautiful. There are several levels with the bar on level one and dining on level two. The menu was outstanding with offerings sure to please everyone! The Green Curry Chicken was a favorite of ours!

High quality food and service, so why do they bother with the disturbing birthday singing routine. Not what you want in that level of resaurant

Had a fantastic night learning to cook some of chaophraya's dishes. a group of nine of us had the exclusive use of the function kitchen, and main function suite we made three fantastic dishes and saw chef alex making another two dishes. All of the dishes were full on full of flavour. excellent excellent excellent.
