2 of the main courses were unavailable. The vegetables for the lamb course were unavailable. Alternative vegetables were given which were undercooked and cold. Potato was tasteless and cold . Did mention it to waiter whose response was sorry. £24 for a piece of lamb is unacceptable as I didn't eat the vegetables or potatoes.

We have eaten here a number of times in the past but for the past couple of years bookings were only open to residents. This time we were allowed to book and we were not disappointed. Our starters of marinated salmon and smoked duck were both exceptional, well presented, very tasty and not too big for appetisers. On previous occasions we have been particularly impressed with the Welsh Lamb but this time it was breast of lamb, stuffed with minced lamb which was good but very rich and the jus was too concentrated for our taste. Perhaps I should have chosen one of the other tempting choices. For dessert we went for a panna cotta which was very good. We wanted a French wine and to get the right style we had to go very expensive, it was good but pricey. Service was efficient and friendly. We will definitely be back if we are allowed to!

No staff in restaurant when we arrived. Waitress appeared after couple of minutes and said "you're late" in a surly tone. What a dreadful welcome. We were only 5 minutes over our booked time plus the restaurant was nearly empty. Coffee machine also switched off near end of meal at 9.45pm. food excellent but experience soured.

Slightly disappointed with our evening meal here. Service was average, I know the lady serving us was still getting to grips with things and that is absolutely fine and completely understandable. However, it just fell short of our expectations. We were not asked for new drinks, the burger was extremely dry and cleared before I had finished (probably my own fault for not paying attention) the children’s meals were not good value (a Chicago town microwave style Pizza ?) and my daughter was served chips instead of mash with her sausages. (The pizza also came with chips instead of wedges. Again my fault for not picking this up immediately. I understand we didn’t raise this at the time, we were with elderly relatives and they did enjoy the food etc so did not want to make any scene. The background music was lovely, the tables were well set and the service in terms of delivery was quick (just slightly lacking some minor details) rest of the party did enjoy their meals so I would try something else next time. Breakfast in the morning was fab, the girl Serving was very efficient. Brought extra toast and hot drinks without asking. The food came quickly and was cooked perfectly. A bit of a mixed bag and we would try again when we come back. Just feel the evening staff could be more knowledgable on the menu and be a bit more attentive to customers needs.

One of our reasons for returning to Llandudno was to eat at this restaurant as we had enjoyed the meals so much last time. The service was friendly and welcoming, we started with a glass of prosecco as an appertif which also went with our starters. I had a cured salmon dish and my parner had a curried fish dish, both were light and tasty. For main course we both had the lamb which was delicious but not quite as special as the dish we had last year. We had a nice bottle of red Burgundy so we had a selection of Welsh cheese to finish that off, then we couldn't resist desserts. I had a Welsh Honey Parfiat and my partner had a choux bun. Unfortunately we then asked for decaf espresso coffee which was the most disappointing as I am pretty sure it was instant and had never seen an espresso machine. Eventually British resaurants will catch up on coffee making, We sat on the veranda so enjoyed the view of the promenade throughout the meal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning in future.

We were here on Sunday evening and expected the menu outside and,on website. Instead it was a depressing Sunday dinner and very overpriced. We had what we expected to be a glass of champagne which tasted like cider. Would have left but many other restaurants in the area did not open Sunday evening. Will not return.

We made enquiries at several restaurants, most didn't reply and others were booked up but we had no problems getting in here. We chose a table on the terrace with views of the promenade and service was friendly and attentive. Best starter was the ham hock terrine which was very tasty and the main course was the Welsh Lamb which was one of the best lamb dishes I have ever eaten. Unbelievably the peas that accompanied the lamb was a real star. Apple parfait was the star dessert while the bara brith bread and butter pudding was a little less exciting. We came back the next night and the chicken and pork main course although good could not compete with the lamb. The restaurant is not cheap but quality overall was excellent and I would be happy to back again.

Really wanted this to be a great dinning experience, rather disappointingly “average” on this occasion. The booking experience was actually very good, personable and professional front desk staff member earlier in the day. The welcome was by a very character who just starred at us on entering reception and pointed at a clip board and took our temperature, no hello or welcome. Pre dinner drinks weren’t much better, lots of staff buzzing around but couldn’t get any service so headed to the bar. Had our drinks, asked for menus. Waited nobody seemed interested in asking us what we wanted to order so we headed into the dinning room, nice welcome to a busy dinning room (great). The food was good overall, great salmon, delicious lamb but a rather tired looking and cold ratatouille and odd potato thing also cold. The speed with which it arrived suggested it may have been in the pass a while waiting for an order. Wine options were good, no issues with the Merlot or Shiraz. Service was friendly and enthusiastic, albeit that with five people to deal with challenging to chat to my father. The staff are really friendly but obviously still in training and there seemed to be confusion as to who’s responsibility we were as a table. We passed on desert, the options looked delicious but we had had enough in more ways than one. The irony was when it came to paying it was challenging to get anybody’s attention. The dine out discount was a welcome surprise, so it was cheap: £40 plus drinks. At full price it would have been expensive for the service experience this evening. This restaurant could be so much better, change the Covid host (somebody with some communication skills), re vitalise the bar and promenade rooms. Train the staff and lead them. Don’t pre cook the food chef. I would like to go back in the next 6 months, to see if it’s any better. The restaurant at the imperial should be great.

We wanted a really good meal and thought we would get it a 4 star hotel. Mistake. The advertising says be prepared to wait as everything is freshly prepared. Not true. The starter and dessert were out of a box with a very small garnish. The main course was a very small portion of hard meat, with a tiny amount of veg. For this we were charged over £70 for us both.

3 of us had Dinner on a Sunday evening. The menu was typical roasts and a salmon option. None of us enjoyed our starters particularly. Prawns were tasteless. The pressed watermelon and mango sorbet were a funny combination. I had the roast lamb and vegetables. My food was only lukewarm and the presentation was uninspiring. The other two had salmon and vegetables. We all agreed that the food tasted nice and the veg were well prepared. The Welsh lams was tasty and tender.

I was taking my 96-year-old auntie for a walk along the promenade in her wheelchair. We decided to stop for an afternoon tea and cake. We spotted the Imperial Hotel and with its wheelchair ramp it was perfect as some smaller cafes in the town can be tricky for wheelchair users. We were shown to the front of the hotel where there is a spacious terrace area with beautiful views over the promenade and sea. The tea and cake were tasty. The staff were friendly. Over the years of day visits to Llandudno we usually have lunch on the Terrace at the Imperial. We went yesterday, our main purpose for going to Llandudno. The terrace was unusually quiet, possibly due to a well publicised wedding on the tv. We ordered sandwiches and a portion of chips. Service was superb but portion size seemed reduced. Sandwich filling possibly half what we remembered and even the coleslaw seemed diminished. Quality was fine but we didn’t think it the usual good value. We will look elsewhere next time. Don’t want to seem like a complainer but the windows weren’t clean either.

There is something special dining in a grand old hotel with the big rooms and you hope old style service. Or the little touches like the Harpist playing in the bar.We booked for 8 oclock but the restaurant was quiet perhaps this is because of a tendency to dine early we noticed elsewhere. However this was of no disadvantage to us as we were able to sit in the sea facing terrace. We chose Welsh Ham Hock and Vegetable terrine which came with a homemade piccalilli , cauliflower carpaccio and brioche crisp. The other selection was Thyme marinated Wood Pigeon breast. Both were very good whilst the piccalilli deserves an honourable mention of its own. These were both £6.50. We had seen on the website sample menu the Trio of Welsh Lamb, Loin of Lamb in a mint crumb , lamb faggot ,crispy lamb breast accompanied by pommes anna , pea puree, glazed vegetables and jus. On reading this we decided then and there that was what we would have. Our fear then being that would not be on menu that night. Fortunately it is flagged as a signature dish and was on. It did not disappoint and we would happily eaten all the elements again. Priced at £19.50 this seemed a very good priceDesserts are priced at £6.50 and from the list we chose the signature Imperial Tiramasu with chocolate sauce and Amaretti crumb and Bramley apple and cinnamon sponge with Blackberry ripple ice cream vanilla custard mousse and blackberry pastilles. The latter I thought was sublime. Not that there was anything wrong with the Tiramasu. I do take Simon Hopkinson's Tiramasu as my yardstick but this was up there with that.I do think that the wine list lets down the experience. By incorporating 3 separate suppliers lists it makes for a complicated read as one has to go from one to the other to compare and contrast. One list would be much simpler where can look for type you want and descriptions written by one person make comparing easier. Maybe there is a good commercial reason for this and if it means cheaper wine for the customer my dislike might be muted a little. I would have liked to have seen more wines by the glass but maybe there are more than I thought but having to move from list to list I may have missed them. I have no criticism of the wine actually ordered. I was surprised by the absence of dessert wines. Not knowing the pattern of trade here I accept that perhaps the hotel has found no customer interest. It just seems when food of this quality is being prepared it deserves chance to be accompanied by a dessert wine to complete the dining experience. We would have had a digestif too but were not inspired by the choice available. A small range of finer spirits would have given us opportunity to round off in style.A final but small gripe is it really necessary to have the name of the coffee merchant on the cup it just jarred.Would give a special mention to Mr Halo ( I hope I have spelt his name correctly) who was badged as Supervisor but assume would be Maitre D elsewhere. Throughout he was charming and informative. The restaurant was quiet particularly towards end of our meal and he was able to spend time talking to us about the area ,food and the hospitality industry of which I have an interest. I appreciate that attention he felt able to give.I thought given the standard of cooking the bill represented very good valueIf I am fortunate enough to find myself in Llandudno again in future I will certainly be visiting Chantreys at the Imperial again

I find it difficult to understand why hitherto there have been only 23 reviews of this restaurant. It is an absolute gem!Chantrey's Restuarant is the main restaurant of The Imperial Hotel, which is situated on what must be one of the finest Promenades architecturally in the whole of Britain.Appetizers:One of us chose the Welsh Ham Hock & Summer Vegetable Terrine, and the other the Fresh Organic Salmon Ceviche (with Lime, Baby Caper, Fennel and Watercress Salad, and Cucumber Jelly). Both were absolutely outstanding, full of taste, interesting, and with wonderfully smooth textures; it would have been worth coming to the restaurant just for these.Main courses:One of us chose the Prime Welsh Beef Steak, while the other had the Trio of Welsh Lamb. Again, both were outstanding. One of the trio of lamb was coated in a Mint Crumb. I could quite happily have had more of this alone! Amongst the garnish served with both main courses were pea sproutings. This was the first time either of us had had these ... and the fresh and sweet taste of the garden was quite breathtaking.Desserts: Between us we chose the Speciality Welsh Cheese Selection and the Classic Creme Brulee. Both were very good too.The service was good and efficient, as one would expect in a hotel of this quality. The prices were very reasonable indeed, proving that one doesn't have to pay through the nose for excellence. The chefs should be congratulated not only for providing such high quality and imaginative cuisine, but also for sourcing so much local food. These days I am reluctant to offer five stars unless the venue in my opinion truly excels; however Chantrey's clearly stands out.A tip: try to book a table in the conservatory where there are exquisite views of the sea and the Great and Little Orme.Enjoy!

The menu is not large or confusing and the chef has a few 'signature' dishes which we would personally recommend and would repeat again and again.

Thought the A La Carte to be pretentious, over rated and over priced, we were left wanting more so we ended up after dinner one evening going for a chinese meal

Absolutely delicious food which we ate overlooking the sea being attended to by wonderful staff. Delightful friendly atmosphere and you can linger as long as you want. Nobody hurries you.

The dining room may be a little faded but it is still elegant, the food innovative and impeccably presented and the service pure theatre. The a-la-carte menu is augmented by a daily specials section so frequent diners have plenty of choice.Of particular note is the trio of lamb main course, the confit duck leg ballontine starter. It is difficult to recommend a dessert as they all vie equally for the position of "favourite"(and that from someone who doesn't normally visit the frivolous bit of the menu).Although the portions could not be described as generous they are ample when considered in the context of three courses.Prices are at the high end for the area but represent excellent value given the overall dining experience which in our case included coffee on the terrace(covered) overlooking the sea with the sound of harp music drifting in from the lounge. This has long been a favourite and well worth the 40 mile round trip.

On ordering 2 sirloin steaks one medium one medium to well done, we were served 2 pork loin steaks, definitely not red meat, we complained to the waitress who brought the manager, he said it was because they were well done that the meat was WHITE,we ended up eating our meal, a complimentary drink was given our way as compensation, a running joke followed as we had the excellent APPLE assiette desert which really complimented the PORK better than the peppercorn sauce we had earlier, the following morning we were given a bill for the surcharge for the 2 sirloins we didn't get.

Staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Food was excellent both breakfast and dinner. We requested to eat on the Terrace for each meal as it gave us beautiful views of the whole bay, rather than sit inside the actual restaurant. This is not to say that the restaurant was not beautifully furnished, it was

For a hotel restaurant we were quite pleased with the outcome of our food & evening. We were staying in the hotel with 2 young babies & meeting our family here for dinner so was an easy option. The food was well presented with a good selection on the menu, fresh & tasty. They easily catered for my sister who is coeliac & even brought her out some special bread - which is a nice touch. The head waiter was very friendly & we received good service. They were very busy for breakfast the next morning & not always easy to place your order - but once you have their attention the food was also good.

Stayed as a guest in The Imperial Hotel. First day had sandwiches on the terrace. Forced to wait AGES for our order to be taken (had to seek out waitstaff!!). Had dinner in the main restaurant that evening... Service somewhat better (we were the only dinners!). Older ? Bar Manager was actually quite rude when asked if "Grey Goose" vodka was available. He actually continued to walk away as he answered our query! Breakfast service was appalling EVERY day. There did not appear to be ANY degree of organisation of staff. Numerous tables waited for breakfast orders to be taken while staff busied themselves clearing tables even though there did not appear to be guests waiting to be seated. One day had to wait 1/2 hour for order to be taken. Eating breakfast on the terrace included being often sprayed with window cleaner as staff cleaned table tops. Coffee, tea, toast brought to table ages before hot breakfast served and therefore went cold. No offer to "top-up" coffee. Food (when finally served) is well cooked and hot on presentation but is so overshadowed by the slow & disorganised service. This restaurant is obviously suffering from poor management/organisation. Some of the staff appear eager but lack leadership. Very disappointed.

My husband and I have been to the Imperial four occasions now, but on this last visit the food was excellent . The fish on the Saturday night was cooked to perfection and I would have it every night if we had been staying for the week. I would recommend the restaurant to any one who was unsure of where to eat. It is a little on the expensive side, but very well worth it.

We have had short breaks at the Imperial on numerous occasions and always HB because the in-house restaurant-Chantrey's-is so good.Cannot understand why it's not MUCH higher in the ratings but assume its price related. We have never had a bad meal here and have always found food, presentation and service first-class. If it's not Cordon Bleu it must be pretty close to it,comparing well to FIVE star hotels we've dined in abroad.Lunches also good, from sandwiches up to mains,and-like dinner-can be taken on the fully enclosed terrace with panoramic views from the Great Orme on the left to the Little Orme on the right, with a broad seascape between the two.

You never expect anything special from a hotel restaurant but you need it to be a safe bet when you've got to use it. That just about sums up Chantrey's. Good food but nothing special, excellent service and decent options for wine by the glass.

Attended a Christmas party night on Thursday 19th Dec and was extremely disappointed with the quality and choices of food, the prawn cocktail starter had so much mayonnaise on it Mr Hellman would have been proud! !, The roast sirloin of beef was so tough both slices were left , the Yorkshire pudding was rock hard, the carrots and sprouts under cooked and what only can be described as a brown watery liquid was served as gravy. For such a prestigious hotel and the amount charged for the evening there was a lot of disappointed guests !!!

We went to the hotel for lunch with great expectations, BUT, there were no menus on the tables. We had to get up and ask for one, the service was so slow, and I am sure the young boy had had no catering training at all! Only paper napkins when the George further along the prom always use linen ones. I had the risotto and had to send it back, it was not as stated on the menu - ingredients missing and it had a 'skin' on which showed it had been lying around the kitchen for ages. My husband had the fish and chips. He swore the 'thick hand cut chips' were last night potatoes cut in two and deep fried. I had creme brulee, which was nothing more than flavoured custard with a cold topping. We were both very disappointed and we did complain. We felt so sorry for other diners too. One lady ordered salmon and especially asked for an accompanying sauce. The young boy said the chef would make one. It arrived minus , so the lady again asked for sauce and the boy said ' what do you want, HP or Tomato' Help....Sorry Imperial, we will stick to the 4 star George in future.

The service at this restaurant really let it down there were long waits between clearing the table and several different waiters/ waitresses serving us, which I think led to some crossed wires! The desserts were delicious but the rest of the food wasn't mind blowing as you would expect from this sort of establishment. You could probably get more value for your money elsewhere.

Based at the 4* Imperial Hotel on the sea front, Chantrey's allround was excellent. At first glance the menu looks expensive but, we had a 3 course meal for 2 with a couple of glasses of wine for £80.The food is delicious, the service is excellent and the atmoshpere is upmarket but laid back at the same time......nothing worse than a stuffy hotel restaurant. If you can't stretch to staying there, stay in a nice B&B, splash out and eat there like we did. You won't be dissapointed.

Eight adults booked a table here last Wednesday and from the second we stepped into the place we were in love with it. The elegance and charm were extraordinary. Then came the 3 course meal ! Everybody raved about every course. The service was impeccable and if I lived nearer I’d be a regular! Cannot fault one detail .

Delicious food and staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We arrived for lunch in a fluster with a hungry baby and an elderly dog on a very wet Tuesday. From the moment we walked in the lobby the staff were lovely, finding us a table in a suitable area and giving us the time and space to get sorted. There was no hurry to order and they bought us coffee and water to heat the baby’s food before we ordered. Once calm was restored and we ordered the service continued to impress and the food was delicious and fairly priced. Credit to all at the hotel.
