Chan's in South Somerset

Daughter brought take away home and I had a chicken curry and some prawn crackers. Never had such tough chicken and the prawn crackers weren't crispy just hard. Will go back to Danny's Garden in future.

Favourite Chinese take away in chard I often go to chans for Chinese, the bean curd(tofu) is lovely and nice to see they have this option. Good quality food and fast service would highly recommend

Can't understand the good reviews. Food was ready quick and if it had been a supermarket microwave meal Id say it was ok but wouldnt buy again. Asked for sweet and sour chicken balls and received small chunks of chicken in batter with a vinegar tasting sauce. Shocked at the small portion size. Oh, and they dont accept debit cards on certain days of the week. Bizzare.

Tiny soggy bits of squid in not worth 50p where was the squid? Far better in other takeaways, disappointed The rest was ok but just ok

Had a takeaway of the usual fare. Everything really quite good. I’d trade the bountiful rice and prawn crackers for a bit more of the mains. Friendly staff. Super money plants to admire 😀

Ordered a takeaway, had fried shredded chicken, this was okay, little bit soggy but the best part of the meal, 2 portions of stodgy tasteless boiled rice. Lemon chicken that is the worst I’ve ever had, I’m sure the chicken was boiled and it was just wedges between cut lemons. Saturated in it so couldn’t taste anything but butter lemon juice, crispy beef was the final straw, no flavour, not crispy at all. Most of the beef was fatty and disgusting.During a time where many places are shut this could have been a perfect time to win customers, unfortunately the opposite for me and my family who are very much looking forward to your competitors reopening.

After many bad experiences with takeaway food in Chard especially the dire selection of Indian cuisine establishments I decided to try Chinese. Having spent some years in Hong Kong I have generally been underwhelmed with Chinese food in the UK. To my delight Chans food was a pleasant surprise! Each dish was very tasty and quality ingredients used. Crispy duck was sumptuous and the sweet and sour pork actually had good size pieces of pork and not fat. Overall yum yum! Be aware this is now takeaway ONLY

We ordered take away food from here and really enjoyed it. The menu was varied including a lot of vegetarian options which for a Chinese is unusual. The food tasted delicious. We were impressed.

Nice hot and sour soup, not many Chinese do this right. Curry a little spicy for the kids. King prawn Scheztwan style delicious, as was the Chicken Chow Mein. Definitely go again.

Me encanta Chan's, hay algunos artículos realmente especial en el menú. El Cordero crujientes mongol entrante es mi nuevo pato en tortitas, algo que nunca pensé insuperable. La sal y la pimienta pollo o calamar es genial. Po pollo kung, Fideos de Singapur, y el arroz estilo tailandés es increíble.Genial.

This is the nicest Chinese in chard. The chicken satay skewers are amazing. The man that takes the ordering is really nice can be quiet at times but hes lovely. The food is also really quick.

Tome encantador - lejos de Chan's como de costumbre y disfrutado por toda la familia. A un precio razonable, nos sirvió una persona seria pero amable detrás del mostrador. A sólo 15 minutos de espera y como vivimos a 4 millas era perfectamente superado y listo, y la comida era aún caliente en el momento en que llegamos a la casa.

He estado utilizando Chans por unos 8 años y han ido a través del menú. Langostinos con sal y chili y calamares, pollo satay, platos de pato son mis favoritos, pero cada cosa es buena. Cada vez que he estado allí que es el mismo hombre de trabajo. Él es educado y profesional y muy trabajador aunque un poco viejo. Creo que él necesita para sí mismo dar una enhorabuena para ejecutar un muy buen llevar, y es apreciado por sus clientes. Gracias!

Thought I would try this Chinese as I still haven't found a good one within 10 miles of home, sadly I was disappointed and my search goes on.......Sweet and sour chicken was so vinegary it was not the edge of not being edible, the crispy beef was served dressing with essentially sweet syrup, it had no other taste or spices. Egg fried rice was good though. Oh well, there must be another Chinese to try somewhere

The man behind the counter has kind eyes and didn't laugh at me that time I bought a single Chicken Curry and Chips on Valentine's Day.

Restaurant was closed, so takeaway, being from out of county I've eaten much better, I wouldn't rate it, portions are small, food was dry and cold. Not at all satisfying

Conseguimos una mujer para llevar el último minuto porque era demasiado vago para cocinar! Fuimos y pedimos a las 7 de la tarde del viernes por la noche y la comida estaba lista en 15 minutos. Y la comida era deliciosa. Parecía fresco y nos woofed el lote. Un poco molesto no hay nada a la izquierda para el desayuno!

Intentamos Chans por primera vez recientemente y nos quedamos encantados con nuestra comida. Los fideos de Singapur, en particular eran deliciosos y todos los otros platos estaban calientes y grasa sin. Le ceratainly volveremos cuando estamos abajo de nuevo en un par de semanas.

We love our Chinese and drive from Axminster to chard for our treat. Never had a bad meal, always tastes fresh and the chow mein is amazing. Difficult to get hold of sometimes and have to order early but well worth the meal. This is a must to try even if you have to travel!! We have not eastern in only had take away.

After almost 1 hour 30min wait we finally managed to collect our food. Was having a evening with friends so chans was called! When we eventually did eat the food was good nothing to fancy and get what you pay for. Wouldn't use again tho on a busy night. Doesn't seem to be able to cope on busy Saturdays

Chans do a fabulous lunchbox ideal as a really superb value treat in the middle of a long working day. Lots to choose from and if you want to go off piste menu wise they will oblige if they can do it. Tasty food from friendly people.

We went to there as we really enjoy Chinese the food was lovely and not bad On price either, the staff where very lovely and helpful

The chicken chow mein, egg fried rice, lemon chicken and sweet and sour are really good but the portion size is quite small for the price! The service can be a bit slow and it's quite confusing when you go to order inside, it's very quiet and a bit awkward!

Good food, prompt and inexpensive. Unfortunately no delivery (guess that the staff level is quite low) but no complaints about food quality or time to cook.

Since the Bathhouse stopped doing takeaway we have struggled for a good chinese in Chard, but Chans seemed to have upped their game. I had a great Mongolian beef dish, but the vegetarian dishes were a bit heavy on the onion.

Had a takeaway from here several times and the food isn't half bad. The owner is very short with all his customers, I don't believe it is personal its just the way he is. For some reason you still can't eat in, unsure why, Pity Chard is not blessed with a huge amount of good evening eateries.

Food arrived less than 2 minutes after ordering !! Dry leftovers, not even much sauce/oil left in it. Not again

Lovely top quality food . Friendly atmosphere. Very well priced spotlessly clean.my favourite beef curry and Singapore noodles are a must . definitely worth a stop if you passing by.

Good consistent food. All the standard favorites are catered and are fresh and tasty. Most Importantly never a 'bad' experience.Erratic phone answering!Recommended

Tried to eat in the restaurant but sign up saying only take aways!!The man obviously very stressed and said he was on his own and couldn't cope with restaurant and phone! There were a few people eating having said that. Not very friendly chap!Anyway think we enjoyed Spice Villa better!!

Wonderful foodGreat restaurant. Large and airyOnly negative, lacks atmosphere. I would like to see the waitresses dressed in colourful oriental tops. I would also like the head of house to engage more with the clientèle.

I eat takeaways from here regularly. More flavoursome than all the others in Chard.For goodness sake try the Hot and Sour soup. It's blimmin lavly

Chans is our usual choice for takeout. Their lunch menu is excellent value for money with large portion sizes. Have never had a problem with the Food or service!

We visit Chan's as a couple on a regular basis (approx once a month) and occasionally with a family party. Food is always to a good standard and the welcome always genuine (although we are now fairly well known). We generally eat at lunchtimes and their 2 course lunchtime special (at approx £6) is excellent value - tasty and filling. Decor is rather bland and restaurant can be chilly on cold days (possibly due to the few people having sit-down meals at lunchtimes) but we go for the food, not the ambiance ! Don't know much about the evening trade as we rarely go there at that time - it may be warmer. Anyway, great value and nicely cooked.

Just had a Chinese. Food was very good. Portion size very good. Would recommend this restaurant. Service excellent. However, restaurant a little chilly.

We found ourselves in Chard, looking for something to eat. So, checked trip advisor for suggestions and decided on Chans. We were not disappointed, best chinese food we've had in a long time. Friendly welcome and service was efficient. Decor was plain but clean.Definitely worth a visit!

Always welcoming ,the crispy lamb wrap is to die for,great house wines,very clean place.The only fault,is its very cold in the winter,which put us off going in these months.Warm the place up!Had many meals here,with the wife and large family gatherings,all serverd @ the same time,& very hot.Great,great food!

we often come to chans for a chinese after my kids have all finished swimming on a friday evening.We rarely need to book.Chan's is run by Alan, a friendly, polite and good humoured host who always strives to help.The prawn crackers are served with a bowl of chilli sauce, which is welcome, my wife was driving so I ordered tiger beer, my eldest daughter had lemonade and my other two children had apple juices.We tend to order chinese in a less structured way than normal meals out, so on friday we ordered a large selection of starters, seaweed, chilli chicken wings, satay chicken and satay beef skewers, chilli prawns, pork dumplings. As usual this array of starters was produced perfectly and in good time.Then we had a 1/4 crispy duck with pancakes.After the duck we ordered a large bowl of special fried rice, a large lemon chicken and a portion of sweet and sour sauce.As always the food is good, and alan is charming. The restaurant however is a tiny bit shabby, in winter it is sub zero and you need to wear a coat, there is only paper napkins and tablecloths, this place isnt very posh, but it means the kids can have a laugh without being embarrassing and you feel comfortable turning up in jeans with no reservation.

Travelled pass this small town. We had a lovely Chinese meal... Surprised to find such good quality Chinese food in this small place

We were staying in a Travelodge nearby and fancied a Chinese and this was the nearest.The first thing to note is how cold the restaurant was, although we were say by a radiator it wasn't putting out much heat. The atmosphere in the restaurant itself was fairly lukewarm too and nothing special.There was only one member of staff visible who was waiting on tables, serving drinks and taking telephone orders so service a little slow.Menu wasn't particularly exciting with some dishes that I've grown to enjoy being notably missing. The food when it arrived tasted fairly bland, sure it was edible and tasted ok but just didn't have that "yum" factor.There's no draught beer available with everything coming in cans or bottles. Hence bitter is only served as a 1/2 pint which is somewhat strange.Bill wasn't that expensive, so it wasn't a bad experience but not memorable either.

So... some things are good.... some bad.Some food is overly soggy, bland or strangely mixed with Western additives. Other food is perfectly done and very consistent..Restaurant. - They have round tables which is nice if you're in a sociable group..Almost fallen asleep writing this review... it's just another Chinese Takeaway/Restaurant!

This was the second time we have eaten in this restaurant and as before, the food was very good, but this time the atmosphere/ambience was missing.We ate early in the evening, which meant that initially we had the restaurant to ourselves. However, it also meant that on a very cold February night, the restaurant was itself very chilly - even with the electric radiator that was placed next to us. Also because it was early evening, there was a constant stream of telephone orders for collection coming in. As initially there was only one member of staff front of house, he was torn between phone, kitchen and restaurant, often having to leave the phone insistantly ringing - not great for a relaxed dining experience.Plus point was that the food was full of fresh, vibrant flavours - the Lamb with Ginger and Spring Onion was superb and you could taste that it was all freshly cooked with good ingredience. Also really loved the chilli dip with the complimentary prawn crackers at the beginning of the meal - it was hot, sweet and sour. It had a real zing and was warm rather than blastingly hot - very more-ish.Still think the food is wonderful, atmosphere was missing this time though. Was much more aware of the take away service adjoining the sit-down area this time, but it wouldn't stop me returning at some point in the future.

I've eaten at a lot of Chinese restaurants before, but the food here trumps any I've eaten elsewhere!! Quick service and real authentic food, I'll definitely make this my regular! If you haven't tried this restaurant, you MUST!!

This restaurant does not seem to advertise and many people I asked had not been there. I was recommended to go by friends. On arrival the place was empty (Tuesday night) the atmosphere and layout of the restaurant was nice and the ambiance was good. Service fast and meals cooked when ordered. I was surprised they did not do more business. I would recommend a "Sizzling Dish". Great price too I was pleasantly surprised at how cheap it was for such good quality.

Great food & good value for money. We went for the set menu for 2 which was lovely and more than we could finish. My only criticism - the restaurant was freezing!!

Really impressed by this little eatery. Not many covers, but good service and the food was wonderful. The dining area is well presented and the lighting not too harsh. The menu was as one would expect from a Chinese restaurant. The food was delicious and full of flavour, all served freshly cooked.This is a little gem in a town that doesn't have much in the way of good eateries.

Really nice people, not always busy but good food, worth a visit
