Chandler's Plaice in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Not really sure were to start. The worst fish I’ve ever had it was like chewing on a well done steak. Chips were rock hard. I used to go to this chip shop all the time then unfortunately it got taken over. This is the first time I’ve been back I will never be going there again they didn’t even offer any customers salt and vinegar complete joke. Still trying to get the cod out of my teeth.

Excellent fish and chips and the price is about average, it cost me just over £20 for two cod and chips, would definitely recommend.

Ordered small cod & small chips £8 on 12th September. Told transaction didn't go through, so present card again only to find 4 days later I have been charged twice. There is no answer on the phone number advertised on Google. Update to previous post. Returned to Sully's and spoke to owner, showed bank app statement and accepted mistake and offered refund or food to value, so had another cod and chips, very tasty thank you. They are having problems with BT in trying to get a new landline number.

What can I say......as a tourist....lovely food friendly service and a nice atmosphere.

Such tiny portions since it's changed owners from chandlers to Sully's. Had the cod bites and chips deal - it was the tiniest piece of cod in each bite and not even enough chips to cover the base of the box. Felt short-changed and not value for money. Will not be returning and sadly we feel like we have lost our main chippy in town, will have to go highlanes or sanders now

First time trying, as Sullys, (we were regular customers of chandlers), the fish was a huge portion, batter was good too, but the chips were a bit of a let down, these ones were quite hard, almost inedible, and not the kind you would expect from a chippy, ( just sayin), I sincerely hope you guys take this review as an opportunity to take on board these comments, as a new business, youre bound to have teething problems, however, the tourists ( one day wonders)will all go soon, your main bread an butter is LOCALS, who have expectations..kind regards, A Local..

Plenty of food for small chips and medium cod. But was lovely

I asked the Indian Gentleman behind the counter if the chips were ready as I parked in a narrow spot . I orderd one bag of standard chips in a standard English accent .taped my card to pay whilst it was in his hand . Walked out drove of to discover I had fish and chips and was charged the full price 🙃. Fish was terrible had nicer fish fingers 👎. Definetly a language barrier in the traditional fish and chip shop .

Wow! Absolutely great Fish and Chips from Scullys tonight. The batter is light and crispy, the Fish just falls apart and melts in the mouth with Chips that are just right. Polite can't do enough for you service from a lovely family run business. Honestly the best Fish and chips and service I've had in a long time. I'll definitely be back for more!

Delicious fish and chips at a reasonable price. One of our children’s meals was missing when we got back to the car but the owners couldn’t apologise enough. Definitely the best we’ve had in Hayle over the years 😊

Shocking since the take over of the new owners! Went last night with the family and got the smallest fish and chips I’ve ever seen despite paying for a large. Will never return again, such a shame that what was once an amazing business has gone down the pan.

Used to be a great chippy. Went today as we were in the area and waited ages for what was supposed to be a large chips but can only be described as a small in most others (that's being generous) we also ordered a standard fish, Not small and received the smallest piece of fish I have ever seen, was supposed to be cod not goldfish. Absolutely gutted as we loved chandler's and won't be returning again. Custom has definitely been lost from us.

Visited last night & what a shambles, people being given wrong orders. We order Standard Cod, peas,Chips & Curry sauce (out of curry so Gravy given)(order 72), when we got back to site & opened up we had 2 fish, gravy, peas & no chips. We tried to phone but they didnt pick up. On the plus side staff were nice & fish good just missing chips.

We have been coming here for the last ten years when it was Chandlers Plaice, as it was the best fish and chips in Cornwall. How very sad to see that what was once the best fish and chip shop is now a really poor one after being sold to new owners. Soggy batter, cold chips and hardly any fish inside the batter at all. And the customer service was non existent, didn’t even offer a bag to carry it in. The whole meal went in the bin. We won’t return. I’d avoid it if coming to Hayle and go elsewhere. Sad.

The chip shop wasn't open today. When stated open at 3pm not except able at all. Since under new management. Won't go again went to sanders. Really nice. Food nice pleasant young man on till go there instead now

Been many times over the years. This time has annoyed me. Twice we went on our holiday and twice they forgot to put the same item in. Mushy peas awful. Large chips portion is awful I'd be distraught with a small size what would you get 5 chips? Not good if you have a big family ans sharing. £4.50 for a small size large chips. Sanders are alot better down the road! I'll not be going here again!

Service was awful, waiting over 40 minutes for our order, staff weren’t the best either. The large portion of chips would be considered a small portion anywhere else. Price was just horrendous. The sausage was tiny, half the size than anywhere else we’ve gone!

Wait time was just horrendous. Asked for a small cod and small chips. And cod and chips (from the specials board. Got home to realise I got 2 cod bites and chips. Not happy one bit! They have given me food worth LESS than I paid!!!

new ownership, used to be called 'chandlers' & was 1 of the best chippys anywhere i have ever had food from. now called 'sullys' chips were great, battered cod was for me too greasy, the cod itself was great, but 1 massive error, us northerners know, they aint no mushy peas......

I have no idea why this place gets such good reviews. The food is poor. Soggy chips that don’t look like chippy chips, tasteless fishcake and peas in water (supposedly mushy peas). Don’t waste your money.

Great fish and chip shop in Hayle, welcoming and friendly service, always busy but you don’t have to wait too long. Food is delicious and piping hot. We would highly recommend a visit, (or 2)

I’ve got to say this plaice (😉🤦‍♂️) is really good, far better than my initial thoughts from outside. Basically, a proper old-skool Chippy where the food is a little greasy but exactly how it should be. The ladies behind the counter were very pleasant to deal with. I got my parents cod & chips which they really like from here. We had the chicken bites which were nice but slightly overcooked… I would suggest just a little less time in the fryer 👌🏼.

We stumbled upon this gem of a chippy whilst on holiday. We read the reviews and it really didn’t disappoint. Compared to other chip shops this place is reasonably priced. We had 2 cod a large chips peas/curry sauce. It was that good we came here twice. We will be back next year, staff are friendly and the fish is cooked to order. It reminded us of chip shops when we was kids. We would like to say thank you to the owners, you’ve got it spot on.

Amazing as ever. Delicious fish cooked to order, lovely chips and tasty sides (peas and curry sauce).

Our first time with them to try their Standard Cod, small chips and home made pea fritters X 2. It was lovely, freshly cooked to order, tasty batter good fish and chips and fritters. We were both pleased as the portions were a good size enough to take some home and eat later. Good local business we say. Top marks. We will return very soon. Give them a try we recommend. Excellent fish and chips supper. Batter was really nice not too thick , but just enough. You could taste the fish was fresh. We had haddock & chips, spam fritter , sausage in batter and a large pot of curry sauce… really tasty.

Recommended by a local, ordered about £23 worths of food but forgot to order some tomato sauce, was told this was 45p no problem pay by card did not accept minimum of £2.50. If an old lady didnt give me her coppers which they took our food would be ruined. Todays world sadly but would not recommend to anyone else.

Probably my worst ever experience in a Fish & Chip shop. Staff arguing with each other over how many outstanding orders left to do, the old grumpy rude bloke in back making it very clear he did want any more customers in & just wanted to go home & the bloke who packed the chips was slower than a sloath Hold an hour for a few bags of chios. Disgraceful.

The BEST Cod outside of Wetwang!! And certainly the best in Cornwall. Really delicious and beautiful fish. Freshly cooked. Really enjoyable. What made this even more enjoyable, was how wonderful the lady serving us was with my children! My son has ADHD and is on the autistic spectrum.. I’m very used to being stared at in disgust by people who assume my son is rude and naughty but this lady engaged and gave them colours and paper and even offered to display their work in her shop! For the first time in a long time I enjoyed my food without feeling stressed. Wonderful all round!!

It's average but why would you go to a fish and chip restaurant and order burgers? Surely you're better off going to Macdonald's? Ps, seems like the owner only likes good reviews, anyone who writes something that may embarrass him gets a sarcastic comment. Go to High lanes fish and chip shop, decent portions, always excellent quality at reasonable prices.

Lovely visit to Chandlers. Chips were amazing!!! Small fish a decent Size. Returned the for a second time with family tonight and staff so accommodating to my concern from previous night. On holiday for another 2 weeks and will definitely return before heading to Scotland ❤️

Best Fish & Chips in Hayle with healthier options. We were sent here by a local and so glad we gave them a try. We had the steamed cod with chips, curry sauce and mushy peas. The fish was super tasty and moist. Chips were tasty and not greasy. Overall excellent food and service, highly recommended!!

Me and my grandparents came here while we were staying at St ives bay. The fish and chips were cooked professionally. The chips were so good I even tried the gravy and I don’t normally like gravy on chips. I poured some on my battered sausage and chips. We will be coming back when we come in August 2023.

Food was great lady's were rushed of there feet kept waiting 15min before getting served. Services had stopped as was told they were catching up !!! Lol 😆 more staff needed 🤣

Really friendly, great chips. Decent price. If you're staying at the nearby haven Park, come here! Honestly don't bother with the "chippy" on site, it's dreadful. Frozen oven chips chucked in the fryer and way overpriced. 2 mins down the road is a proper chippy in Chandlers!

Best fish and chips in Cornwall! An absolute must if you are in the St.Ives/Hayle area. The food is exceptional and the staff are lovely.

Fish was nice the chips and curry sauce was nothing special but £3.70 for a large chips you’d think would be enough to feed 2 adults and a 16 year old ? wrong 🙄 thank goodness for bread and butter.Next time we’re down it’ll be the chippy at Portreath.
