Champs Ainsdale in Sefton

We had heard that the pub had been refurbished so decided to give it a go on Father’s Day. The first gripe was that there were no draught real ales on sale. I know we have left the EU but does that mean we must drink fizzy tasteless continental lagers with no choice of English beers and ales. Good job I had already had a pint in the Golden Monkey. The starters were good, but then we had the long wait. Almost an hour. Didn’t they realise that there would be heightened demand on this particular day! When the main course did arrive, there was disappointment all round. Small portions of fish and chips was one complaint. I had steak and ale pie. It did not appear to be homemade and contained little meat. It was accompanied by French fries, three small florets of broccoli, and three slivers of carrots. The whole ensemble was not so much swimming as drowning in gravy.. It was not a meal to remember. I doubt that any of the adults will be returning in the near future.

Wow what a transformation it looks fabulous inside and the service and food were out of this world 🌍 we all had the 3 meat roast with a side of cauliflower cheese cooked to perfection. Danielle and Lindsay who served us were so attentive and helpful I would highly recommend trying this hidden gem it’s only a few minutes out of Southport and well worth the drive out or you could even get the train to Ainsdale and walk down. It’s definitely a 10/10 from us and we will be back again very soon 🤩🤩🤩🤩

visited for lunch since the pub changed its image. No longer a sports bar and the TV’s have been removed. The upper level has been decorated and the rest is the same. staff good and beers the same. basic food menu but will be enhanced soon we were told . Food was basic but okay, similar to the spitfire it’s a pub with pub food

We went to this place some 6 months ago .. And decided to go and have a drink after work .. The place has changed beyond recognition.. Beautifully decorated and relaxing atmosphere Fresh ..clean with newly up cycled tables The staff are attentive and rightly placed in the hospitality business. Toilets immaculate and outside area is going to fantastic once we hit the warmer days and nights 🌙 We will deffinatly return .. Us two.. 🌈

Kids running around adults really noisy too. Extreme juvenile behaviour by them. And that wasn't the kids. Now looking shabby soz for a low score but sometimes the truth hurts. Come on brewery help out.

Being a local resident I walked into the bar, asked if they had any gluten free beer and was told by the barmaid "nobody's ever asked for that" so it was cider then ..very disappointing in this day and age, definitely last ever visit there.

A group of us went to watch a euros game. When we first went in, we were shouted at from across the bar to check in with the test and trace, something which we already had done. But by shouting at us, this caused the whole pub to look at us and made us feel very uncomfortable, not the friendly welcome you’d like. We knew it would be table service so we took a booth and waited, however, this wait was for about 20 minutes, there was no orderly way of servicing, it appeared to be knowing the staff was the only way to get served. There were people going up to the bar and putting orders in but when one of our party went to the bar to see what the range was behind the bar, we again got shouted at. When a member of staff finally came to us, we made a comment about not knowing as it had taken a while, the member of staff was having a laugh with us. The next thing, the manager came up in an aggressive way and started shouting at us and explaining that they only had 2 members of staff on, as if we should apologise for their incompetence for staffing levels. We were then bought our drinks which were wrong, and the manager kept glaring at us from over the bar. We were not being any trouble, but if you’re not a local in the pub, don’t go because you are treated in a distrusting manner. I since found out that the pub is known as Tramps, well, I can only agree with this fitting nickname.

Excellent had an impromptu meal with family food was excellent and service was amazing definitely doing it again

They have offers on every day here, and tbh don't know how they make a profit because the food is good and not expensive. Polite staff. Have been several times andd will go again, especially on a Monday when all mains are only a fiver. Spot on- keep it up!

Ordered a burger of the menu there was 3 hairs in my meal I found the hairs at the end of the meal just when I went to eat the lettuce and tomatoes at the bottom of the plate. I then complained to the bar staff and the bar tender then spoke to the chef but she didn’t come out to apologise or even come talk to me . They didn’t give me a refund because apparently it was to late and I ate to much food . Food hygiene is very poor and disgusting. WOULD NOT recommend to anyone.

brilliant sports bar,extensive drinks menu hot n cold,great coffee,fab food extensive menu with daily offers,spotlessly clesn,friendly helpful staff,great atmosphere,a 10 minute walk from the beach n stalag pontins,childrens area beer garden n pool table.several flatb screens to watch the sports.you gotta try it x

Visited this pub all the 4 nights we were in southport the food is to die for every meal we had was top class well presented and tasty well worth a visit

Wonderful, well worth a visit, beyond value for money, food not only good but has to be of the best salads I have eaten out at a restaurant. My husband had gammon egg etc plus homemade soup. Our amazing lunch cost £ 5 each unbelievable.

Occupies a prominent corner location in Ainsdale. Very spacious interior with some cosy side rooms/areas. Has an unusual interior with some interesting things to look at. Lots of screens as you would expect. Long bar with usual selection of drinks. There is a basic & limited food menu with a few uninspired vegetarian options - not good for veggies but otherwise looks OK. Very large outside seating/smoking areas that unfortunately are also popular with seagulls that pinch food from tables as well as bins & footpaths. You've been warned! Staff were very chilled & friendly. Unpretentious venue & a good place to relax.

What can I say ,,, visited champs today with my partner as we are only new to the area from the moment we walked we got made very welcome by Donna the bar maid excellent customer service we sat at are table ordered are drinks it was busy with food but Donna and Kerry smashed it, very pleasant staff,the food was lovely 😊 we deffo will be coming back to see the lovely Donna and all the staff Donna and all the staff are a credit to champs keep up the good work and thank you so much 🍺🍺

Recently moved to the area seen the place is the traditional locals football pub, very pleasant staff and food was great pub food

We came here today myself, my partner and two children. The staff were lovely and made us all welcome. I'm allergic to milk and gluten and to add to that I am Pescetairian and even though there wasn't much on the menu that specifically met my nightmare combination of a diet the chef went to the shop and got some salmon for me and cooked it with spicy rice and veg and it was delicious! The children loved the donuts and my partners burger was a really good quality burger. It is a bit of a nightmare going out usually with my diet but thank you for the staff at Champs for going the extra mile to make it lovely for us. Thanks again!

Visited pub to watch the match, very busy but able to watch match with plenty of tv's in premises. Great sports bar with reasonably priced drink and food. Staff good although seemed a bit short handed considering plenty of people in to watch match Had chicken wings and chips which were really tasty

Friendly staff. We had a slight issue with our order which the barmaid apologised for and sorted the issue, I can't remember her name. The food was lovely, we would eat here again if we were in the area as we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend eating here. Thank you to the barmaid

Went in for breakfast as our usual place was closed the girl behind the bar looked like she did not want to be there for a start and our breakfast was not great at all think I will give this place a miss from now on

We pop in with my friends get some cold lager and to.ger some think to bite,and the burger was Super duper nice tasty;fresh fish and chips yummy,chef Alex doing great job,planing to go back soon🤗

Visited for lunch, had to wait for 50 minutes for our food to be served and 10 minutes for them to change a barrel, one chef was sat at a table and the other not even in the kitchen, when we spoke to the miserable manageress she seemed to think it was acceptable. Loaded nachos then arrived all on separate plates 5 minutes apart from each other. Main course was forgettable. You would think that with only a handful of people in the bar you would get it right. The place is ok for a pint in your scruff but that’s about it!

I usually enjoy Champs but most recent visit will keep me from returning. Waited 35 minutes for 2 burgers. Place was empty, when food finally arrived the chips were cold, burger bun was burnt to a crisp and the attitude of the chef was terrible, when I asked for a refund he was shouting to the bar staff to make sure that we didn't eat the food and to get the plates back. Maybe they get this from people stayin at Pontins but we are local.

I Had a bad experience when i came to go home one night i had to go all the round outside to get to my car be cause a dilligent barperson took it is head to close all but one door.I thought that all doors must be open during opening hours.

Saturday night. Lots of screens for sport. Singer was great fun. Great atmosphere. Beer prices average for the area.

A great sports pub. Good for watching football. The food is cheap and decent, especially with all the offers although full price is still good value. It's a good idea to book a table if you want food while watching the game.

Went watch the man city Liverpool match as pontins didn't have it on so we took kids, good friendly atmosphere and a very nice pub.

Eaten in here a few times with the family. Good pub grub and a decent price. Love the different offers on each night of the week. Staff are friendly and they accommodate the kids really well.

When champs first opened it was a good place to visit. Now it’s just gone down a slippery slope. No atmosphere feel like am at a funeral every time I am here. Food is awful and it use to be amazing don’t know if that is a change of chef or what. Advertise homemade onion rings on pictures and get burnt horrible looking ones that have just been out in fryer. Never have stock either. Staff are always friendly and helpful but just need to get it back to how it was

We went to Champs tonight after a bit of a crap day, we live about a 15 minute walk away and always go in for one but we have never really stayed for our tea or anything just always had nibbles on a Saturday afternoon.

You don't expect much from pubs, however the food is exceptionally good here. The new chef does a mean breakfast with all local produce (no frozen sausages here) The fish platter is fantastic and I would recommend to any fish lover. Thank you. And welcome back to the previous landlady!

Fuimos una familia de 7, jóvenes y viejos. El lugar estaba muy limpio y bien cuidado. El personal amable y servicial. Pedimos y el servicio era excelente. La comida llegó en tiempo y forma y estaba caliente y bien presentada. Todos disfrutamos de la comida y bebida.

Recently went to meet some friends and ended up having something to eat. Had a sharing plater which was really tasty, more than enough for the two of us.

Becoming a regular here with it offering good beer and good food.Does different offers different days of the weeks,with Thursday being one of the most popular.

went here for meal ribs and chicken on special but had no ribs. and over an hour to wait for food. so went elsewhere as service to slow. but food looked good was busy and a nice place for a pint.

Visité este lugar con mi pareja de golf después de tantos era una ronda de golf bastante hambre. Opté por la mitad de precio y patatas fritas de pescado que está disponible en un viernes (hay otros platos a mitad de precio en otros fines de semana). Primero de todo la porción era un seriamente grande, y en segundo lugar fue buena comida de pub. El bateador estaba bien hecha, crujiente y sabrosa. £18 por dos porciones y dos pintas de cerveza es apropiada una buena relación calidad-precio. Nada de lujos de este lugar pero sirven buena comida de pub. He dicho suficiente.

Nice pub, friendly staff, good food and a great night atmosphere. One thing we like about Champs is there is a variety of people and ages that go so no one would feel out of place here.

Went to take advantage of the highly publicised Monday steak night which offered two 6oz rump steaks and a bottle of wine for £15.

Popped In for brekki with my daughter today. Wasn't expecting too much but was pleasantly surprised, it was better than expected although the sausages could be better and loose the parsley it's not needed doesn't add flavour, but apart from that really enjoyed it.

Muy bien decorado y bien amueblado, con un montón de partes de tv con variedad de deportes; el personal del bar está bien pero sirve de soda en Lima y una pinta de cristal que no había solicitado, no cambiar y cobrar por un medio, pero un poco traviesos realmente.

El ambiente del lugar está en la media parte y llevará mucho tiempo recuperar la popularidad que tenía hace algunos años. Algunos de los personajes aún y arruinar lo que podía ser un lugar bastante agradable para la familia. Es una pena, porque el personal es educado y agradable, muy bien cuidados.

Champs bar is in the heart of Ainsdale village, great parking and great if you are a sports fan. It's not for me, but I can see the appeal for getting together with your mates to watch some sport and have a bite to eat.

Not far from Ainsdale beach, nice village, good parking, busy place on a Sat night. Nice change from Pontins and cheaper - This pub catered for all ages and food was nice & a great menu, highly recommended!

Genial ver fútbol, la comida está bien comida de pub, no es el mejor, pero no es terrible. Estado aquí para desayuno que no era genial, pero 2 por 1 hamburguesas en un jueves no se puede superar eso.

Muy decepcionante visita hoy 19/5/16. Colocar un pedido sencillo tuvimos que esperar casi 40 minutos para la comida cuando llegamos recibí mal hamburguesa y mi marido estaba teniendo una pizza fría. Que la correcta hamburguesa reordenados tomó otros 15 minutos pizza maridos se llevaron dinero y dado así que terminamos comiendo con nosotros en veces separadas no me impresionó, ya que era un raro día que tuvimos juntos lo pensaría dos veces antes de ir allí de nuevo. Quizás si el personal escucho el orden de los clientes en primer lugar correctamente nada de eso hubiera pasado.

Nunca antes ir a este lugar cuando era el tren, pero los nuevos propietarios han hecho un trabajo fantástico hacer de este lugar una agradable diversión, pub. Mucha variedad en lo que se refiere a comida (me encanta el nuevo menú) y bebidas a precios razonables. Los amantes del deporte pueden encontrar de todo, desde fútbol, golf y boxeo con los muchos televisores en este bar de deportes. El personal siempre sonriente y muy servicial, sin duda vale la pena una visita si en la zona.

Estado aquí un par de veces para comer. La comida siempre en el clavo. Grandes porciones y bien de precio. El pub tiene un gran ambiente y hay un montón de televisiones para ver sus deportes favoritos. El personal es extremadamente servicial y amable, y siempre ir la milla extra para usted.

Staff are great and the new menu is great with lots of choice at a reasonable price. Lots of TVs to watch sports from around the world, looking forward to the Euros this summer. Good Cask ales also

the staff make you most welcome a very good enviroment. beer good and hearty the manager is very popular and stands no messing. food is good . good entertainment enjoy by every one except one person who is a misrable sod.

Es un pub renovado que se ha configurado como un bar de deportes, la bebida es razonable y el personal es muy bueno y agradable

Aproximadamente 30 de nosotros (adultos y niños) apareció cuando buscando un lugar para comer (nuestros hijos eran el fin de un recorrido de Rugby u10) los domingos por la noche. El personal era encantador y acogedor y no tuvimos problemas con el tamaño de nuestro grupo, la comida era muy buena y de precio razonable y había una gran variedad de cerveza. Gracias por ser tan acogedores, tuvimos una velada encantadora.

se llama con sus amigos una noche la semana pasada y no había Guinness, así como algunos de nosotros beber Guinness terminamos todos en el Toby restaurante junto a la carretera. 2 noches más tarde no tenían ninguna bitter disponibles, así que acabamos en el Toby. Toby tienen mi voto.

Venga aquí regularmente puesto que los cambios habían sido realizadas. El ambiente es 100 veces mejor y el pub en sí es un crédito para la reforma sin embargo la comida decepciona en este lugar. He comido varias veces con opciones diferentes. Las comidas de los niños siempre impecable y porciones generosas. Vinieron por un bistec una noche, pedí blue, bien más azul que Blue. Recibimos algo clasificaría como bien hecho. Compañero preguntó por una hamburguesa no rosa pero estaba cruda. la última vez que son, a pesar que vienen en, y seguirá viniendo, pedimos el aperitivo partícipe para 2 mientras contempla el partido. Todo en la fuente estaba a la altura de las alas de pollo, éstas eran las materias primas. Al mencionar que el personal me dijo que lo Relay este a la cocina, no queríamos un sustituto o reembolso de cualquier tipo, volvió diciendo que estaba bien. El director de la zona Chris habló a nosotros que decía que el pollo estaba bien, ya que él comprobado personalmente y el "pinkness" era el tipo de pollo. El pollo crudo es pollo crudo. Pub es genial, la comida no es.

We found this bar/restaurant whilst looking for somewhere to eat lunch in Ainsdale village. I had a burger and chips and my friends had all day breakfasts. We were all pleased with our food. Staff were friendly too :-)

I visited for half price burger night with my children, food was amazing, generous portions. Nice atmosphere and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Mi esposa y yo, que viven en Ainsdale, visitó el establecimiento por primera vez en Noviembre 04 sobre las 7.30 de la tarde, había aproximadamente dos docenas de clientes ya asistencia. Fuimos al bar donde nos espera pacientemente durante más de 10 minutos, pero ninguno de los dos el personal femenino del bar nos llevó cualquier aviso, uno estar preocupado por dos clientes masculinos la otra simplemente continuó a servir al cliente que llegaron a el bar desde dentro del pub, un total de tres fuimos al bar tras nosotros mismos pero sirve delante de nosotros. seguían a pagar sin atención a mi esposa y yo nos salía el establecimiento y nos fuimos a otro lado. Pocas veces me he experimentado un pésimo servicio de atención al cliente que era casi familiar como Champs reclamaciones. La marca de un buen personal del bar es para saber quién está al lado. No hace falta que diga que no volveremos.

El pub se ha transformado en un cálido y agradable pub que sirve una buena variedad de comida y bebidas.Tras salvar contratiempos iniciales con el personal de la apertura inicial. el personal es atento amable y acogedor a la llegada. Recomendaría folk local de Ainsdale daría una oportunidad y apoyar el establecimiento.

First time I've been here since the refurbishment the place looks top notch went to watch the man Utd match this evening only thing I would suggest is having commentary on when showing live sport other than that keep up the great work

There was around 20 of us that turned up on a Saturday afternoon, service was quick, food was excellent, no complaints at all

La primera cosa que notas hay aparcamiento, aparte de aparcamiento en la calle que está limitado a 2 horas. El establecimiento solía ser el ferrocarril, y es evidente que eso ha cambiado. El tema deportivo continua en su interior, si te gustan los deportes su bien, pero si no piensa dos veces.

Vinimos aquí para celebrar un cumpleaños familiar y teníamos ganas de ver lo que era dado que 3 miembros del grupo había trabajado allí durante los años cuando era el ferrocarril. Se ha hecho a un alto estándar, pero nos quedamos muy decepcionados por nuestra experiencia. Habíamos estado en unos días antes para reservar una cabina pero cuando llegamos no había constancia de la reservación, así que nos quedamos atrapados en una mesa con un muy televisión alta y la puerta. Usted no es capaz de comenzar una ficha en el bar, así que fue un rollo conseguir bebidas y comida, ya que eran la división la factura. Decidimos compartir entrantes y no recibieron placas de lado y uno de los entrantes faltaba así que tuvimos que perseguir. Tuvimos que hacer cola un rato en el bar así que nuestros platos principales estaban frías para cuando llegamos a ellos. La comida era muy normal. Nuestro agradable, pero el personal necesita capacitación sobre cosas como platos, cubiertos, etc limpio y sería mucho más fácil tener una pestaña y ofrecerá más bebidas mientras comes para evitar las colas. No dar prisa en volver.

He estado aquí varias veces y me gusta.
