Chalk Restaurant in Wokingham

Three of us went for Sunday lunch, we all had the roast beef which was cooked to perfection along with all the trimmings. Very friendly staff, highly recomend.

Delicious Sunday lunch with friends today. Beef and vegetables cooked to perfection with plenty of gravy. Good service and great ambience.

Me and my partner came here for lunch last week and both our meals were superb. The service was excellent, too. We sat outside and it was a really lovely experience. Both the courtyard outside, and building inside are beautiful and a really nice place to be.

We booked the private area at Chalk for our wedding meal after our ceremony in the town! They were very attentive and the food was excellent! Would highly recommend for any special occasions :)

Absolutely first Class ~ the young Staff we’re not only attentive but very friendly and served with a smile ( the guy with wine especially) my wife had Sea Bass & Crème Brûlée & I have the Jalopeano Chicken burger - all were excellent.. my wife often uses Chalk for coffee mornings - but we will definitely be back with friends - Well Done all.

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at Chalk! We were able to sit outside, the atmosphere was relaxing even though it was very busy and the food was excellent. The staff are delightful.

My husband & I had only been here for a cup of tea one afternoon last year but I suggested it for dinner one evening when we were meeting up with my son and family. They were delighted with the place and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food. My husband & I both had the chicken supreme and I requested a change of veg because I cannot eat courgettes and also a gluten free meal which did not seem to cause any problem for them. The chicken which was very tender and perfectly cooked came sitting on some sort of bland white puree which meant that it was not dry as I could not have the jus that was normally served with it. We would definitely visit again.

We ate here at the end of a business team day having booked at relatively short notice. They were very accommodating and had options to offer a variety of dietary requirements. The service was warm and friendly with just the right level of attentiveness with all courses coming out at the same time and exactly as ordered. The meal and venue received nothing but praise from our whole team and we would definitely go again.

We booked Chalk restaurant for our anniversary meal for 17 people and we were really pleased we did . Everybody said how much they enjoyed the meal, steaks cooked perfectly and food well presented. The service was excellent, attentive and not invasive. A really enjoyable evening and would definitely recommend.

Been here before and has always been good. But sadly mothers Day brunch was pretty poor. Waiting times were long (we had 2 tables who arrived after us; one which had finished and one which had left) before we even got our meals. When food turned up, my wife's eggs benedict was warm at best and we had to send it back. We had asked for bacon to be crispy so that all got sent back as well. Daughters full English was sent back due to the bacon and they obviously stuck the plate under warmer / heater meaning when it came back the 2 fried eggs were overcooked and dry. My pancakes with bacon and maple syrup . bourbon butter was ok but a little dry and looked like to had been sitting there for a while. All in all, really disappointing given how good it has been in the past. If it hadn't been Mothers Day, I would would have made more of an issue but decided against it. Hoping it was just a bad day ands they were overstretched.

Just not very good at all. The staff were surly and uncooperative. I know that this was on Mothering Sunday, early evening and they had probably had a long day - and it showed. Food poor to average, and the noise - staff throwing bottles into skips etc, just a poor experience overall. If you want a Sunday lunch, probably best to go early - because as the day goes on, food is well past it’s prime- warmed up potatoes etc.

Such a lovely restaurant in terms of ambience and such a nice venue; the staff are lovely too. However, yesterday three of us had a Sunday Roast - 2 pork and 1 Beef. It was so disappointing: the roast potatoes were good but the rest wasn’t very flavoursome; French beans were stringy and I’d swear the peas came from a tin. The meat looked as if it had been frozen in slices and the gravy didn’t complement the pork either. If you need to know how to do a roast - go to the Bull in Wargrave - as their roasts are faultless.

Living locally we have been meaning to try chalk for some time. Very disappointing and underwhelming experience. Limited menu. Tried the vegetarian option. The gnocchi looked unappealing, was stodgy and inedible. My husband went for lamb shank which was ok but not great. After our mains we left. None of the deserts appealed and we had lost our appetite for more. We won’t be back.

Absolutely loved our lunch at chalk its always such a treat. Its now my third time visiting and it never fails to impress. Had the vegan burger and it was delicious as was my dessert apple & blueberry crumble. We will definitely be back again! big thank you to all the freindly staff. See you next time.

We’ve visited this restaurant several times since it opened and have never been disappointed! The service always on point from start to finish. We had 3 babies with us and were made to feel very welcome (even though we hadn’t booked) and even when they made noise (which wasn’t often..) we didn’t feel uncomfortable. The food was lovely again and our dietary requirements taken into consideration. Will definitely return soon! Thank you for a lovely afternoon!

We came for afternoon tea, the sandwiches were made fresh and were really good, the scones were delicious and the cakes to a high standard. Good food, but why do they put 20% gratuity on top of alcohol, says only 12.5% on web site menu, mentioned nothing about alcohol gratuity, won't ever be going back, back door tactics.

Unfortunately this place is really poor now. We struggled to get drinks the entire time we were there. My salad arrived and was missing most ingredients. It was essentially a bowl of ageing leaves with 5 little falafels. No coriander or sumac onions as on the menu and only two slices of tomato, three little pieces of under-ripe avocado and virtually no dressing. It was worse that a packet salad from a chain and at £12.95, really not worth it. It’s a shame as I had the same dish last summer and it was fabulous. Must be cost cutting. I also have to say (for the first time ever), the kitchen staff looked filthy (unwashed kitchen jackets) and I was less than comfortable eating here.

We went to Chalk as a group & had great service from the start. Huge wine menu so I am convinced that there is something for everyone. The food I ordered was yummy (delicious!) and everyone else really enjoyed their choices. In all, definitely recommend.

Had a fabulous afternoon tea with my daughter. Lovely food, friendly staff and I would definitely go back. I was there before Christmas for a work party and the food was great and really good service. Having visited a few years ago and been very disappointed, I am now very impressed and will visit again!

I attended the festive tasting on my own as I enjoy wine tastings. Just inside I bumped into some friends and the waitress asked if we were together and then rearranged the tables so we could all sit at the same one. The guest speaker was highly impressive in giving us a summary of the characteristics of each wine, the producer, the terroir, how it was made, plus food pairings. In addition to the nine wines and a cocktail, we were given a wide variety of delicious cheeses, cold meats and breads, plus a warm mince pie for the dessert wine. The staff could not have been more helpful, happy, friendly or energetic despite it being the end of a very long day for them and it was nice to bump into some of the kitchen staff to be able to thank them too. A lovely event, great fun, good value. The Christmas tree is very impressive and beautifully decorated. Chalk has a lot of style and a lovely team who have a keen eye for detail.

Really enjoyed our starters of scallops and duck parfait. The mains however, from the grill section of Ribeye of Pork and Barnsley Lamb Chop included theOdd “house baste” which turned out to be nothing more than BBQ sauce. Works with pork but a bit odd with lamb. Asked the server who agreed and subsequently asked the chef. The response was that it was the chef’s personal choice. Makes me wonder…if I had gone for a classic steak, and chosen either peppercorn or blue cheese sauce as an extra whether these would have been competing with BBQ as well?
