Tried Chalk Hills Bakery for the first time. It’s clearly popular amongst fellow locals & following an early start on a Saturday , we thought we’d grab a warm drink. The smell of bacon was too tempting so we decided on two bacon sarnies in addition to our tea and hot chocolate. It was quite possibly the best bacon sandwich I’ve ever had. Delicious! Drinks were fab too. Clean , well stocked premises & absolutely lovely staff. Maddie served us & was friendly, efficient & welcoming. We’ll definitely be back.

Out walking the dogs, popped in quickly to grab a tea and pastry. Four staff: my order and a simple order for a young couple. One member of staff making two coffees and the rest having a lovey long chat. And it went on…..I left, gave my feedback, drink not delivered but my polite disappointment was. A shame to withdraw my custom from a local independent but service should be your differentiator.

Don’t bother ordering in advance! So we’ve heard great things about the bakers and food but very frustrated today that we pre ordered 1.5 hours before we wanted the food to collect & visit friends.. on arrival they hadn’t even started preparing it so left us standing there for 15 mins no apology. When it did arrive the croissants sadly were stale but bacon sandwiches were very good. The overall quality of food is very good but service atrocious… I won’t bother again.

I hate writing bad reviews especially to local businesses, but I had to, due to how awful the fairy cakes were at this “artisan” bakery. We purchased a couple of things, coffees, various cakes and a box “Happy Easter Fairy Cakes”. We’ve never had such a dry stale cakes from a bakery, the tasted like they’re weeks old and when I looked at the date they were supposed to be fresh. I’m particularly annoyed as they weren’t cheap.

Coffee is made with my all time favourite beans (Union) that I first tried in San Fran years ago. Their bacon is from Hill House Farm and is the best I’ve EVER tasted. As you’d expect, the bread and other bakey bits are second to none. Incredible food and drink and lovely staff.

All the bread and pastries are great. Service is painstakingly slow. I think the problem is there is only one point of order so if you are only going to pick up a loaf, you have to wait whilst people in front are ordering their breakfasts etc. It all seems a bit haphazard, only one person actually serving whilst 3 or 4 others hover around on the background.

Run by a bunch of middle aged women that clearly use it as a meeting place to have a chat - can't get the order correct - very lapse attitude - they don't wear gloves so don't eat anything they make even if they do manage to get your order correct, and ensure you have all the time in the world as it takes over 15 mins to make the wrong order.

I love popping in to Chalk Hills. The bread and bakery selection is superb, the only issue I have is what to pick. The cafe itself is extremely cosy and the coffee is fantastic. They also sell sustainable products like the beer made from leftover bread crumbs - such an excellent idea. I will certainly be back and I certainly recommend a visit!

A lovely little place. Went here yesterday for brunch with a friend and was really impressed. Lots of choice and a cute, quirky little place. I imagine it gets very busy at weekends but it wasn't too bad when we were there. I knocked off a star because there were flies buzzing around the open bread which I found a bit gross (it put me off buying bread to take him actually - a pity as I've heard it is delicious) but our food was lovely and excellent customer service too. The eggs were cooked to perfection.

I love Chalk Hills. Go there most Saturday mornings for a cup of tea and an almond croissant after exercise. It's my treat. I also buy their bread which is all excellent. Don't expect too much else though. The premises are very small and it often be overcrowded with parkrunners and Pilates goers on Saturday mornings. Also, if you go late afternoon, most of the food has been sold. I noticed some of the reviewers have come from out of area and have been disappointed by service, queues, etc. I think if I was passing through, unless it is

As a local bakery/ cafe we called in for a coffee and croissant at 3.30pm. This establishment closes at 4pm. We asked if the croissants could be warmed. No as all the machines had been turned off. There was no visible sign to say no hot food however it is on the menu but these are not displayed on the tables. We also asked if we coul have extra butters on small pack was clearly not enough for the size of the croissant. We were reluctantly given on extra pack and then told they had run out. We go into this cafe maybe once every 6-8 weeks. On a previous occasion we complained as our drinks order had been forgotten. Today the manager became immediately defensive as (it was he in the past who forgot our drinks). He then launched into saying he had had issues with us previously and that we were frequent users of the establishment. This kind of defensiveness is not good customer service. Poor service, poor attitude so not going back. If you're open until 4 then you should be able to provide a full service until 4!

The bread here is very tasty and many varieties are served. It's organic and makes for some fine breakfast dishes and snacks. The coffee can be well made and served, though at times it doesn't hit the mark - not hot enough or inadequate foam on the cappuccino, for example. Service can also be hit and miss, with some long waits and less than efficient practices. It's a small space so can get very busy. The bread thought is the star here.

Chalk Hills is my safe-haven; it's my go to place when the world gets too much. So there's a very strong chance of bias in this review... Tucked away from the busy Reigate high street, I have whittled away countless hours here reading the paper, digging into a warming mug of the best latte in Surrey. The sandwiches, crafted from cloud-like loafs hand made in the bakery, are worthy of legends! The cooked breakfasts here are fantastic and I don't think have ever disappointed. It's hard to stop eating their croissants. This is the kind of good for the soul establishment you need in your life. Yes it's compact in size. Yes it can be slightly frustrating to get a table on busy weekends. But it's always worth the perseverance. I don't think there's anything about this place I would change. Except slightly longer opening hours..

My husband and I visited the Chalk Hill Bakery in Reigate yesterday as it came highly recommended on Trip Advisor. When we walked in there was one table free which we took. The table had a tray with dirty cups and crockery on it. We had to ask the waitress to clear the table, which she did, but it wasn't wiped. We asked again if the table could be cleaned as it was covered in crumbs and spillages from drinks. My husband queued up for about ten minutes to purchase a toasted sandwich, two cups of tea and two cakes. He returned with the cakes. The unfriendly and miserable waitress brought the tea over fairly promptly and it was a further twenty minutes before the toasted sandwich arrived. The table of four adults and two children next to us had their food delivered to their table intermittently over a period of 15 minutes. My husband could only see one sandwich toaster servicing the restaurant and only two (extremely bland and moody) young girls working there and a very young boy who looked about 12 years old who wiped our table. After eating the mediocre-tasting toasted sandwich I started to eat the carrot cake which looked delicious. It was disgusting - powdery, bland and nothing like any carrot cake I have ever tasted in my life. I have never ever taken a cake back for a refund until then. My husband did enjoy his cherry and almond cake, but I couldn't even be bothered to try something else. It was a really rubbish, unfriendly, slow and miserable place to eat and such a shame after we had such a lovely weekend. This cafe has the potential to be amazing, it's a shame for the owner that the staff and service let the place down. It's in a prime location on a busy road, right opposite a short stay car park and with parking spaces immediately available outside the door. I wouldn't recommend this place, especially if you are hungry and appreciate friendly fast service. Won't be returning :-(

Very friendly and helpful service, usually easy to get a table if you get there early enough, or you can take away to picnic in the park. They also sell Barry's Tea, jars of condiments and other sundries. The brand of coconut water they sell is my favourite drink to take on a walk around Priory Park. I travel 140mile round trip everyday to Reigate and walk the additional 10 minutes everyday to the chalk hills bakery for lunch and sometimes afternoon coffee. This place is a sanctuary for many: busy business people, mums, dads, families and friends. I've had the pleasure of sampling a large range of the hot and cold offerings (daily fresh soups, fresh sandwiches, quiches, cakes) and had no complaints across the products and tremendously friendly service. Everything tastes fresh and made with care comes through in the flavour. It's sometimes challenging to find a seat as its popular, but still undiscovered by manyI favour a toasted sandwich either their special of the day or the ham and cheese, the soup of the day with their white bloomer, and a baked cake with a hot chocolate. If you want a bakery to get away for great food, great drinks and excellent service this is your place.

Not sure we will ever go anywhere else for brunch again. Best egg Benedict in town and the pancakes rival them. Lovely but a bit small so getting a table tricky. Great place to walk dogs in park / woods opposite and kids adventure play park near as well.

Visited one hungover morning and found salvation in the form of an amazing bacon sarnie in a pleasant atmosphere. Not over priced, friendly service and a decent brew too!Thoroughly recommend buying some of their bread too!

This is one of our favourite places to go in Reigate. Their cinnamon bun is loved by the kids. The coffee is pretty good and the bacon sandwich is to die for. A bit small and often busy but that is because it is a great place to visit.

I stumbled on this place as I work quite close by and fancied some lunch somewhere close by and outside of my canteen. It's expensive for a sandwich, but oh what a sandwich it is. Tasty, fresh, and full of flavour. My favourite in this place was the goats cheese focaccia which was toasted and had some amazing sweet onion chutney in there. I had it with a bag of handmade crunchy chips which are excellent and a can of coke and seriously, it was brilliant. I still love to go down there frequently for lunch now and I will continue to do so. When the staff found out I worked locally they started discounting my food and I loved it there even more.

I think this place is overrated and goods are overpriced for what they are. Last year I visited and paid way over the average price for an egg and cress sandwich. Had better egg sandwiches for a third of the price from well known chain outlets and supermarkets. There didn't appear to have been any care or love put into making the sandwich. Bread wasn't that tasty and there was very little egg and cress at all. It wasn't special or different or "artisan" to warrant the high price. This year, went in again, paid over the odds for Christmas themed meringues and biscotti..... bad move. All went into the bin. Meringues awful flavour, crumbly and powdery outer with raw mushy (not chewy) inner. Biscotti stale. It was as if they were leftovers from last Christmas that had been stored in the freezer only to re-emerge this Christmas.

My daughter and 2 of her friends were left stranded in Reigate when their dance class was cancelled unexpectedly. Fortunately they were looked after by the wonderful staff in Chalk Hills Bakery, who very kindly looked after them with delicious cookies until I was able to pick them up Having visited the shop for lunch the day before where I was very impressed with the food and friendly service, my expectations were massively exceeded. Most definitely above and beyond the call of duty - thank you so much!

There are many offerings in the coffee-shop market in Reigate and this is certainly one of the better venues. The staff are friendly, the store baked produce delicious and both the teas and coffee excellent. The only drawback is the small size, which means that it is not always easy to get a seat. Some have complained about the price, but it's really not that expensive and well worth it in the end.

I have had chalk hills bakery bread at a number of other cafes in the area, so finally made the effort to go to the real place! We went for brunch on a Sunday, and found the cafe full, however, we were luck as by the time we had ordered a table had come free. The decor is rough round the edges wooden tables and chairs, with a bar along the window which is perfect for people watching. The atmosphere was relax with a real mix of people from families to trendy 'morning after the night before' types catching up with friends. The brunch menu is comprehensive and definitely features the main attraction- the bread, although the selection of pastries also looked very tempting. A few thoughtful and slightly unusual offerings included a vegetarian option of slow roasted tomatoes with eggs on sourdough. In order to get the best exposure to the bread on offer I went for the toast basket, they were kind enough to ask if there were any varieties I specifically wanted to try/didn't want, so I asked for a mix of their most 'exciting'. I wasn't let down and received 4 different varieties to try including the fig and walnut, which was a winner, as well as the sourdough which had great flavour. These were all served with a variety of locally made jams.My dining companion had the bacon sandwich and despite being a confirmed white bread eater, braved the wholemeal bloomer. He soon announced that it was the softest bread that he had ever had! (and the hand cured bacon wasn't too bad either!)We paid a very reasonable £6 per head for brunch with hot drinks, and will definitely be coming back to sample the lunch time hot sandwiches which looked amazing!

Anyone who bemoans the price of the bread at this shop is talking rubbish, they will happily pay £3.50 for a pint of beer that is gone in 10 minutes, but moan about a loaf that will last a few days. Great bread, great cakes (try a Florentine!) Greatest Sausage rolls EVER! Best bread in Surrey by a long way.

Expensive, artisan bread, so so Reigate. Do we really need an overpriced, average bread shop? The dry cake, Barry's tea - such a big selling point, really does anyone care? Pretentious, expensive you will be disappointed.

A bright and spacious coffee shop set in a great department store selling beauty furniture (however always with sale prices which I am not convinced about). The sandwiches could do with being made with a better selection and quality of bread. Also the salad garnish has not changed in years - a bit of lettuce, large slice of dry cucumber, a couple of rings of red onion and tasteless cherry tomatoes with a choice of sachet mayo or salad cream. You also get a small pile of crisps. I would love to see this improved and offered a pile of mixed salad leaves and a nice salad dressing.

I ordered and received the Valentines Box, yesterday, which was really lovely. All of the contents were very tasty, in fact there was too much food for one sitting, so we saved some for later. Delicious, and will definitely order the next event.

I wish I knew about this place before. I be been a few times and had different menu options. I’ve yet to be disappointed and will adopt it as my go to lunch spot. The Reigate Scotch egg breakfast was authentic , good ingredients and flavourful. The coffee ( cuppa chino) could be in bigger mugs to dilute the strength of the coffee , but otherwise good .
