Chae's Chips in Bolton

This is a chip shop that I have frequented over many years. I called in at a busy time and patiently waited 40 minutes. This was not a problem. I ordered two fish at a cost of £11.00 to take away, living less than 5 minutes away. Once home we unwrapped them to find the the batter was greasy and soggy and both fish were undercooked. We disposed of the food and were very disappointed. As this is an establishment that I have always enjoyed I felt I needed to bring it to their attention. I was greeted with hostility and disinterest, sprinkled with profanities. I was told to bring back the food if I wanted a refund. I explained that the food had been thrown away. They offered no resolution or apology. Sadly I will no longer use Chaes. As a pensioner struggling with today’s cost of living this was al treat that turned sour.

I've been going to Chaes for years and never a complaint but just lately the chips are terrible . Thin with no substance,that thin they are hard,inedible.Wont be going back until it improves.

I don't do 'chippy' as a rule, but i thought i would have a treat for lunch and have a bag of chippy chips! Mistake! Soggy, pale and greasy all clumped together in the packaging. Ate a few and binned the rest. Very disappointed as Chae has a really good reputation. well I must have visited on a bad day. Back on the salad for lunch!

No complaints, as always. One of the best chips shops in the area, staff pleasant and polite. Both the Chinese and English food on offer is always impeccably hot, cooked well and tastes good. Portions are plentiful and are well priced.

Great fish. Try it. We drive out of our way for this because it’s better than anything we can get locally

Not only are the fish and chips great but the Chinese food is first rate too.Really tasty batter on the fish and very good sized portions.

We were really looking forward to our fish chips and curry sauce tonight having not been for a couple of years. Unfortunately we were disappointed, the chips were hard and scrappy, the fish was grey and slimy and the curry was sweet and tasteless. On the upside we were served a huge plateful that mostly went in the bin. Back to our usual chippy it is then.

Not been for a good few years, always had the best curry sauce. Decided to have a bag of chips, they were not quite ready and a couple of people were waiting. Another customer walked in who obviously was friend of the sullen faced assistant. As soon as the chips were ready she got served. Mrs sullen faced just totally ignored all the other customers. Not the best way for customer service. In fairness the chips were very good, the tub of curry delicious. Such a shame Mrs sullen spoilt it.

Fish cooked to order - so big its difficult to eat it all especially with normal size portion of chips! A no-no for anyone on a diet! but the taste of fresh fish in thin crispy batter is hard to beat.

This ChippyThis has been established for years and still very popular. I'm in my 40's and went when I was a girl. The chips are fab.

Having read about this place I tried it and to say I wasn't best pleased is an understatement. The fish was so soggy and dripping with fat I just couldn't eat it. The chips were no better either. Please look at the standard of food your serving as I will not be coming back and it's a shame as it's in my village.

Love Chae's chippy especially the gravy!Also the barn cakes are proper size not like the little things you get in Bury.The cod is also beautiful too

I have been here loss of times and it's normally very good but the last few times it's gone downhill ! Chip's looked like they were warned up from dinner ! And the chicken fried rice was dry and not much chicken in it !. We will not be going back.

If I was to rate the chippy shops that I go in to this one would be up there for one of the best in Bolton!! Very good value and excellent food! Very clean and pleasant staff.

Imi lived in Harwood (Bolton) for 2 years and every Friday I had my dinner from Chae's Chippy. I was either having steak and kidney pudding with chips and curry sauce or large fish with chips and mushy peas. Friday dinners became my favourite dinners ever. I was always looking forward to Friday's Chippy time. They had the best chip shop food I have ever come across! On top of that the friendly owners that were serving us every week made the Friday Chippy time more enjoyable. Since I moved from Harwood, I cannot find a chip shop that would be anywhere near close to Chae's.

gorgeous......... gorgeous gorgeous and plenty of it, Chip shop is very clean, always full and staff always lovely and friendly never not a smile on anyones face there.

Living in Australia I miss my English fish n chips so when I visit my family I always buy from here, in my opinion it's the best chippy in Bolton. And the one at Harwood is good too.

Chae's has been around for ever, and their food is always decent, but it's far from being the cheapest chippy around, which given it's location surprises me.I still go but it's not my number one choice due solely to the prices.

Tasty delicious not at all greasy. Very subtle flavour please try. Friendly staff and very cleanly presentation.

I have never been disappointed by the food in this family run little gem of a food takeaway. Every time I go in, there is always time for a hello from the owner, no matter how busy he is. Its got to the point where he now knows my name and the name of most of the people who go in! The fish are well sized and never greasy, always just right. There is an extensive Chinese menu as well so you will be spoilt for choice. It is very rare that a small place like this can do both traditional fish and chips etc and Chinese meals that are both excellent. Its normally one or the other. I have sometimes been to the other family business in Harwood as well. This is also of equal quality. Its obvious these guys have been taught well! Totally consistent and totally delicious.

Can't fault this place at all, every visit I've had has been perfect, the staff are very nice and are always smiling no matter if it's rush hour or not!.

Always of a high standard, and clean. Large varied menu, should suit all tastes. Chae and his staff always have a smile and a word if there's time, busy place (no pun intended) As the establishment is on a very busy road parking can be a bit of a pain.

As well as serving excellent fish and chips, they also serve wonderful Chinese food, which is always cooked fresh and tasty! Their menu for Chinese is limited but the dishes they do have are really good good!

This chippy as been serving fantastic fish and chips and Chinese food for over 50years? The portions are big, the food is always hot and it's the only chippy I know that are forever frying fresh batches of chips. The staff are fantastic and It is always packed. I never go to any other chippy and I am a fussy bugger.
