The best Indian/Bangladesh restaurant I've ever been to and I've been to a lot trust me. Super food and atmosphere. Shuma is a great representative of the restaurant with great knowledge of the food served. Good prices too.

Great food. Sadly they struggled with the prearranged child high chair etc and only have one working speaker, so it was quite loud next to us, which they didnt want to turn down because then people in the other sections wouldn't hear it... so we did have to raise our voices to be heard a bit. I would probably go back- the food was good and interesting, but request a seat away from the one working speaker.

Another wonderful visit to Chaat Haus. I can highly recommend the Kolkata Kasundi Chicken and the Safed Beef Curry. Very flavourful and well presented dishes. Always wonderful service from all the staff. Chaat Haus offers wonderful and unique dishes in a relaxed atmosphere.

Took my daughter for her birthday food was good but the service was terrible would not stop staring at us made us feel very uncomfortable had to get food to take away will not be returning

Advies neem de garlic pepper prawns on puri. Dit is het gerecht van het jaar. Super lekker. The gunpowder patotoes zijn ook yammie. Interieur is aangenaam. Service is correct. We hopen hier nog vaak terug te komen. En een zeer goede prijs kwaliteit verhouding .

Managed to grab a table with no reservation as we were in the area for an event and fancied a curry. The restaurant was busy but everything was perfect. Great service, great food and great atmosphere. Very reasonably priced too. Highly recommended the South Indian Madras.

Don’t be put of by the slightly scruffy exterior, or the less than ideal location (albeit practically next to a car park), once you are inside the vision changes entirely. The decor is warm and welcoming and very tasteful. We went early on a Sunday evening and were surprised to find quite a few tables already occupied. The waiter who greeted us didn’t manage a smile which did make us feel slightly uncomfortable at that point. Once at our table, the service was efficient and both our waiters were knowledgeable and helpful with regard to the menu. We all chose different starters and main courses and they all exceeded expectations. The flavours were delicious and the presentation eye-wateringly beautiful. The portions were ample and those of us with slightly smaller appetites were offered containers to take the leftovers home. The two waiters had a good balance of attentiveness; one had charm and charisma, sadly the one that greeted us never did smile in our presence - maybe we caught him on a bad day. The food offered here is on another level to other Indian restaurants we have visited, and too good not to go back and enjoy once more.

Went here on a Friday night, not been before but had heard good things. Mentioned I am intolerant to dairy but didn't want to make a fuss (I'm more 'on it' when I'm with my Coeliac daughter but rarely worry about myself!!) Looking at the normal (not vegan) menu concerned the staff and they were super rigorous when dealing with my order. I was a bit embarrassed that I was the cause for such concern BUT if I'd had an allergy this was the the BEST service and on reflection the staff did an amazing job keeping me safe....and after the dinner I had no ill effects so yes they adapted dishes for me and aced it. Now the food....it was amazing.we went for the Chaat dishes and had an indian-style-tapas dinner. I thoroughly recommend this of you want to taste as many flavour sensations as possible. Every dish had a unique flavour and the ingredients were fresh and beautifully cooked. I will definitely be back again, and again.

Best Indian restaurant in town! It's excellent and the prices are reasonable. Special mention to the cashew/coconut naan which is excellent. Only downside: quite noisy.

The best indian i have had in a long time. Visited monday evening with family, the waitresses knowledge of the menu and the dishes was faultless and helped me know what to order as it is not your usual ‘British Indian’ dishes. Menu was very affordable and I’ll definitely be back to try more. Had a lovely evening and would recommend to everyone!

Had date night with hubby! It’s very deceiving from the outside doesn’t look much But once you step inside it is quaint lovely decor we were welcomed in and sat down the table had proper table cloth and serviette (not napkins) member of staff came over offer to take out drinks order and asked if we wanted popadoms and chutney (we did) the red onion really good and the mango was sweet sauce like no bits on and they had a Lemon chutney which I had never had and tbh I will reserve judgement on that (we did miss the mint sauce) I ordered Beef Biriyani which came with veg curry and boiled egg (again service was impeccable) I was offered choice of boiled or fried…. My hubby ordered 2 x started and garlic and coriander Nann bread My biriyani was everything and more honestly great food my hubby said the same about his food It was a lovely evening and for me in my opinion they go that extra mile…. Food as stated was amazing and service couldn’t ask for better all in all if your out for a special night this is definitely a place to visit you won’t be disappointed

The food was pretty good. Not your typical British curry house food. However, the service was really poor. The male staff who served us couldn't raise a smile and any communication was extremely perfunctory. The waitress who brought the bill was very smiley but by this point we'd had enough. For the first time ever I didn't leave a gratuity.

Myself, my mother and a family friend went to the Chaat Haus mid-may at the recommendation of a friend. I have to say that we were blown away by the food, the service, the whole experience. Wonderful food, wonderful staff, communicative and careful and easy to talk to, and gave recommendations and the food itself was just magnifique - gorgeous taste sensation, whatever the dish. Clearly the Chaat Haus is working with a chef who has a passion and a love for cooking and putting ingredients and flavours together. It was really impressive and we hope to return soon - and thoroughly recommend you to stop by and try it. I don't much like the location on the main Broadway - but this restaurant is a real hidden gem. Fantastic food with a great range of ‘different’ Indian dishes. Great and diverse flavour and friendly and attentive service, very good!

We visited on a Thursday night without a booking and nearly didn't get a table as it was very busy! However we were welcomed in and were very pleased with the food and the friendly service. A nicely decorated and cosy feel to the restaurant with probably the largest indoor clock I have ever seen ! The menu included dishes I have not tried before, but I ordered my go to dish of Madras Chicken to compare with others, probably the best I have tasted for years, extra spices and flavours along with the Gunpowder Potatoes and a little rice made a really good plate of food. We also tried the Peshwari Pasanda Chicken, Manchurian Chicken Chaat and vegetable samosa which were lovely too. Highly recommended all round.

I hope the owner of the business reads this… I have visited once before and decided to bring seven of my friends with me this time, as the previous experience was very good. Weird experience this time!! I booked… it was a wet Wednesday evening at 9pm. There were three tables taken when we arrived. We were left standing in the entrance, even though I introduced myself when we arrived. We stood there… four of the staff stood looking at us from the back of the restaurant. We stood there… after 6-8minutes we decided to leave. I said to one of the waiters, we are going as there are tables available and I have booked but no one is interested or welcoming to us. Eight people… £200+ spend. We went to the Royal Gurkha… brilliant experience, welcoming… he took our £220 and we all enjoyed the lovely food. Strange behaviour from a restaurant

Another fabulous visit to Chaat Haus. We never run out of dishes to try because each one is always unique, with plenty of flavour and beautifully presented. Always get a friendly, warm welcome from all the staff. Added bonus of a great atmosphere and decor to match. If you haven't tried this gem of a place, you must visit.

Parking is next to the restaurant and access is easy for all. (Small parking charge applies - top up after 2 hrs I think). Inside is stunning. There are plenty artworks, small statues, ornaments, gems and treasures to keep me entertained. The music is usually ambient, I guess dependant on how busy. Can hold a conversation nonetheless. The food! Absolutely spot on everytime. These guys are no amateurs. We always have the plant based option and it has never failed. The tofu manchurin was once a recommendation, but is now a "must have" on every visit. I personally prefer the samosa chaat and my partner prefers the papdi chaat. Both delicious and can be made vegan on request. Most requests are never a trouble for the staff. Most visits are usually take away and the staff have always been courteous, always happy - like genuinely happy! Generous is an understatement. We often leave with more than what we've ordered. The location is good. Easy enough for me to get there within 10 mins. Although, I think a lot of Bedford would order online if given the option. Vegan yogurt still not used? 😉 Although, I've not missed it and the food has still been 5*... Finding the right plant based alternatives is a pain and then making sure it suits the dish is another headache. But a splash of yogurt on a chaat 👌 Definately recommend as a vegan. If you're unsure about the menu, the staff will help out. The chef is not shy to experiment if you have a taste for something specific.

Tasty and very well priced, with very friendly service.

This was the second visit this month. This time only me and my daughter. Food and service was once again amazing. We hadn't long finished the poppadoms when the starter came out. Then after a 10 minute digestion period lol, out came the main. Nothing really took my fancy on the menu this time, so the waiter suggested the kitchen will tailor to my request. I asked for a mix of lamb and chicken, mushrooms, tomatoes and peppers with a medium scoville heat. When it came out, it was like the chef (Miah) had seen the picture I had in my head whilst placing my request. I was served with exactly what I had visualised. My daughter couldn’t finish the portion size, so it qas put into a doggy bag, followed by a takeaway for my wife and son. Until the next time, thank you to the Chaat Haus team.

Really nice food and generous portions. They catered to dietary restrictions and still provided amazing dishes. The staff were friendly and service was great. The restaurant itself was beautiful too. If you haven't already tried Chaat House I couldn't recommend it enough!! Best restaurant in Bedford!

Amazing experience - the best Indian food I've had outside of Penang, Malaysia. ( and thats saying something ) This will be my new go-to for great Indian and Nepalese food. Very reasonably prices and attentive service.

The food here is exquisite and every chance I get to visit it does not disappoint! I had the Masala Korean Chicken and the Garlic Prawn Puri, it was a blast of flavors! Not to mention the plates always come hot to keep your food super fresh. I can’t wait to come back for more!!

What a wonderful experience! Travelled all way from ‘Geodie Land’ - Newcastle upon Tyne on a recommendation from my Asian friends and to my delight was rewarded with an excellent meal at the Bedford Chaat Haus! The staff were a joy and did everything possible to make my visit rewarding and it’s not very often that one has a meal presented at one’s table in record time. Fresh and delicious are so often used to describe food served in ‘ restaurants’ however, in this establishment the Chaat Haus, the term was true in every thing I ordered. I can only say my trip from the Northeast was worth every penny when presented with such a unique opportunity to enjoy food Asian food of such a high standard. The Chef was able present his unique style of cuisine that he picked up on his worldwide travels that was a total winner. So all that can be said is pay a visit to the Chaat Haus and enjoy an eating experience that you will remember all your days!

We pre-booked this popular restaurant on a Friday evening and it was very busy. Food and service were both excellent. There is an interesting selection of food choices not found in the average "Indian" restaurant. We found the food very tasty and well cooked and presented. Portions were generous. We shared a Chaat and had two main meals. Good bar selection including both Cobra and Kingfisher beers. I prefer the Cobra as it is less fizzy but both are good. Wines and spirits are also served. If in Bedford again, we would definitely return to Chaat Haus.

We were recommended this restaurant by a collegue and were certainly not disappointed. We enjoyed some really different food, with staff taking the time to explain a bit about the regions the dishes originated from. The chaat dishes we had were something very different from the usual dishes prepared for the perhaps more English tastes. The only thing stopping me from giving and excellent mark was that the restaurant was extremely warm when we arrived. Too much perhaps, although I think it was recognised and the heating was turned down a bit. Still everso slighty on the warm side for our liking, but not enough to put us off coming back again.

Loads of vegetarian and vegan options! The manchurian tofu was delicious and I loved the beetroot & carrot halwa!

First visit today, recommended to us as a great place for vegan options. There is a whole separate vegan menu, so we were spoilt for choice! We got a main, rice and 3 side dishes to share between two of us. Food was amazing and the staff were really friendly, too. To top it off, we only spent about £36 for the two of us for all our food (we practically waddled out of the building), and two beers! Will definitely be visiting again to try more of the vegan items.

We visited during Veganuary and the selection of food and choice of flavour was ample. The service was great and the interior was lovely and quirky... The place is also nicely located in central area and next to a large parking. Had overall a lovely dinner and experience.

By far the single best restaurant in Bedford. Every single dish I've had so far on my 2 visits had been perfect. All the chaat dishes amazing, highly recommend the Kale and spinach, all the Korean chicken one. For the mains the prawn dish was 10/10. I would have like a little more heat but still spot on. I've a had a few others and they were also 10/10. All this matched with great service, a welcoming, friendly, helpful and accommodating team from start to finish. Look forward to the next visit. Real dilemma with this one. On the one hand, quite simply the best curry I have had in years. On the other hand, if I tell everyone, I might not get a table in future!! Popped in for a last minute meal between Christmas and New year. First time I’ve tried the Chaat Haus. What a revelation. Excellent service from all staff members, great atmosphere and superb chat and curry. Flavours were deep and long lasting on the palate. The food was plentiful without being too much and the naan was light and fluffy. Even the pappadum and pickles were freshly made and full of flavour. What can I say, highly recommended and I will be back.

First visit and we loved the atmosphere which hits you as you walk through the door. Great service and a great choice of southern Indian food. Family run and it will certainly be on our list of go to restaurants.

The food was of excellent quality. However, once we'd eaten the starters and mains, we were completely forgotten ( I think the staff just wanted to finish 🤣). I did mention it, and if I go again I will be monitoring the service to us. I would recommend the restaurant.

Went to chaathaus for the 2nd time and it was really good experience. The portions of the mains was bigger than I was expecting. The gunpowder chaat was unexpectedly good as well. Overall the portions were generous and good food and the 3 of us finished it !

Visited 28th September 2023, for a mid week date night. I like how the menu sets out dishes from mild to hot so tried the spicy chicken starter and a chicken curry main from the hot section. Both outstanding and imho better than dishoom. Reasonably priced and we will definitely be visiting again next week to sample other Chaat Haus delicacies.

Absolutely I recommend this place, every thing was amazing, the atmosphere of the restaurant and staffs' behaviour are great very friendly, the food was fantastic , we had a nice night at our stay in Bedford with this restaurant, oh and by the way as a drink I definitely suggest to have some mango lasse , yummy

A tiny restaurant with a cool atmosphere and great food. I've been there a few times and it's number one in Bedford for me at the moment. We order several different dishes every time and each one is great. Recently, the boss himself added something different to us to break the taste. I wholeheartedly recommend tofu, it is a different dimension of taste and does not taste like standard tofu at all. I recommend it wholeheartedly ❤️

We had take away crom Chaat Haus and so far is the best indian foid we had in Bedford. Had the Beef Khala Bhuna and fried okra . Will definitely try more soon

Me and my family visited Chaat House over the weekend to celebrate a birthday and the food matched the high spirits we were in. The food was amazing (definitely recommend the Manchurian Chicken) and our waiters Akbar and Shuma were very accommodating and patient with the family’s food allergies. The restaurant has a really authentic and traditional vibe to it and we will most definitely be coming again!

Although we had an online booking they would not give us a table (even though the place was empty) and we had phoned numerous times and no answer. So after making our way there assuming an online booking would be enough we were sadly turned away with two hungry kids. Not impressed. Definitely not a family friendly place at all and basically if you don't fit the look, you don't get in!

Visited this place last Wednesday and can honestly say the food was top tier. The cauliflower 65 had so much flavour bursting in my mouth, it was perfectly balanced as a starter. For my main I had a garlic chilli chicken and it was the best curry I’ve ever had. The staff were really attentive and shuma explained and guided us through the menu. Overall, an excellent restaurant and great atmosphere. Give it a try!!!
