Lovely setting great Sunday lunch

This is by far our favourite restaurant, even though we live very close to The Grove and Prime Chandlers Cross, so it’s quite a bit further. The service is always perfect, nothing is too much trouble and the staff are friendly, they smile! The dining room itself is spacious, modern and light, with lovely views over the 18th green (complete with ducks to watch, or the occasional dog). The reason we come back regularly though is the food, which is really excellent and well portioned, as in there’s just the right amount. We had dinner last night, with our 2 children (12 and 9) and it was perfect as usual, everyone cleared every plate. We often go on a Sunday, which is a smaller menu, fixed price for 2 or 3 courses, and is fantastic value for such a high end restaurant. Highly recommend, it’s the best.

Celebrated my Mum's 93rd birthday. Impressed from the reminder phone call to the warm welcome at reception. Venue is very modern and smart, a real country club feel. Restaurant overlooks 18th hole of the championship golf course. Comfy lounge area to wait (did need to prompt bar staff so we could order a drink). Set menu is short but nicely balanced. Had the Mackerel starter, followed by the roast chicken with potatoes and green beans. Starter was refreshing and served with warm soda bread. Chicken and sauce were tasty, potato was rather gooey, couldn't quite figure out what it was trying to be. Crumble dessert was to syrupy and needed more custard. Coffee ad chocolates were nice. Overall service was friendly and professional land they earned the 12.5% service charge. Room became very noisy as there were two large conference delegate tables in. We eventually asked to be moved to the Orangery which was done with little fuss and it was much easier to chat. Overall a vert pleasant dining experience - recommended.

Cannot speak too highly of our first afternoon tea at the Centurion Club for a family birthday celebration. From the initial booking onwards everything was perfect and given we were a group of nine with seven of us having varying dietary requirements, one had to be impressed with the organisation and service. The restaurant is beautifully laid out with great views over a lake and the golf course. The tea selection was great and each afternoon tea was individually served and everybody agreed it was the best afternoon tea they had ever had! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff; I would highly recommend the Centurion Club.

We hired the Orangery for a wake for a much loved family member. Eva was amazing from the the first day she showed us around. She was so empathetic and nothing was too much trouble. The Orangery is so beautiful and Calvin the chef came to speak to us about food options, again such a nice helpful man, he and Eva really made such a difference i can not speak highly enough of them. The food was outstanding, I can not recommend it enough. Thanks for all the hard work of all the staff, Kim was another staff member who had great customer service behind the bar. I can not recommend highly enough the Centurion for outstanding food and service

Such an amazing place for lunch. If you are thinking about going there just do it! You won't be disappointed!

Simply outstanding. The team working here are brilliant. Whoever runs this place should be proud. As we approached the front barriers we were approached by a friendly member of the team who greeted us and gave us a warm welcome. Wonderful first impression. The lady who met us in the venue was friendly and kindly put away our coats. Lovely lady. The waiters and bar staff in the restaurant were professional, friendly and on top of their game. We order vegan food which was simply delicious and in a league of it's own. It was best I have had it Hertfordshire and was clearly created by a genius and prepared with care and love. As far as I am concerned this was the best experience I have had in Hertfordshire and easily comparable to high end 5 star venues in London.

Afternoon Tea. Great service, great food, great venue! For a 21st birthday celebration. Only 4 of us but it was lovely. A glass of bubbly and an extra dessert for the birthday boy and two of the staff came and sang happy birthday with us. The selection of teas was brilliant. Answered all questions. Extremely friendly people. Would highly recommend and well done Centurion for having such lovely staff. Well worth the visit!

Christmas meal with friends. We were there a Friday night in December and only four other diners in restaurant. Meal poor, hardly anything on the plate. Extortionate for what it was. Very disappointed.

Fantastic golf club great food and service.

There are a bunch of low lifes who are seeking to have 100s of larch and beech trees felled at massive cost to the enviroment just so a few gammons can play an 18th hole.

Shame to see the club being greedy and wanting to cut a big chunk of ancient woodland to expand. Do we need more golf holes? No. They have no value to nature and vast majority of population. Do we need to preserve our ancient woodlands? Yes. We've lost too much prescious habitats and places for every member of public to enjoy. Shame on you Centurion.

You have to question a club that wants to cut down 180,000 sqm of woodland to make way for another 10 holes of golf. Have a read about their planning application on the BBC. Here's my simple view of the situation... the current woodland is amazing for nature and can be used by anyone; the golf course is a nature desert where nothing really lives and can only be used by people posh enough to pay the green fees. Fair?

Just reading about the Centurion's plans to bulldoze some nice bluebell woods to lay out 10 new golf holes. While Hertfordshire is very short on woodland, we're definitely not short on exclusive golf courses only used by people rich enough to pay for the privilege.

I had the most amazing Afternoon Tea as a retirement treat with a large group from work. The choice of teas was incredible, as was the effort put into making each pot. The selection of sandwiches were great, the scones were out of this world and the patisserie selection was varied and tasty. The room in which it was served had lovely decor, as did the entrance and rooms we walked through and there is plenty of parking. This is an amazing venue for a really special Afternoon Tea, which won't break the bank.

Had a lovely Christmas dinner at the centurion. Would highly recommend, the staff were very friendly and professional. It's so much better here than the overpriced and very overrated Grove hotel in Chandlers Cross.

Food was absolutely delicious would have given 5* however they didn’t have a few items on the menu left which was a real let down. Service was great, ambience was nice, we had hoped to be seated in the back room which is really pretty. Highly recommend this place and I’ll be returning very soon.

Big birthday Sunday lunch. Booked here as we had heard Calvin the chef had relocated there from another high class establishment. Invited our friends and no one was disappointed even our vegetarian friend who they catered for bespokely. Calvin and the team smashed it out of the park. Waiting staff although young were attentive and gave superb service. We couldn't fault them. Calvin , Helen and the team thank you so much for making it such a memorable occasion.

It was a Birthday present and it was so nice. It has been decorated so lovely for Christmas.

I took my husband for lunch at the Centurion on Tuesday 24 October 2023. The food was absolutely delicious and the service first class. Jade who served us was really lovely and extremely helpful. Our experience was memorable and I would have no hesitation in giving the Centurion five star rating! I have happened several times at the Centurion and I have never been disappointed!

Delicious three course price fixe lunch. Tasty, well presented dishes. Excellent level of service. Bright, spacious dining area that feels like a quality hotel. Great views over the final hole on the golf course.

Great venue and challenging course. The first 6 holes are tree lined and tight then it opens up but don’t think that makes it anymore forgiving.

Really lovely lunch for our 12th wedding anniversary. Food totally delicious and very well presented. Was nice and quiet as was the last week in summer hols which was actually nice to enjoy the peace with lovely views of the 18th hole. Staff very friendly and attentive. We were given some petit fours as a treat with a greetings plate. Place was spotless and very well maintained. We saw a few afternoon teas being taken to tables which looked delicious! So may return to try one of these soon!

It was a fantastic day with my little girl. She got to enjoy her first golf tournament and it was a brilliant event. I can't give 5 stars because of 2 things though - 1. The handling of the people on the 18th hole where we herded into a dead end and had to crush in for 15 minutes. 2. The absolute chaos of trying to exit the parking.

The restaurant team at The Centurion Club in St Albans went above and beyond yesterday to ensure my mothers 80th birthday lunch was quite possibly the best day she had ever had. From the Chef and his team in the kitchen, to the restaurant manager and quite possibly the best maitre d Johnathan who kept us all fed and watered throughout I cannot praise them enough. Amazing golf course with a great club house

Hosted both my son’s christening events here, one back in the summer of 2019 and again this September. The food was exquisite and everything was so fresh and delicious! The portion sizes were really generous. The staff were super attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them. We regularly visit for lunch on weekends too. The events team were super helpful and made sure our day was planed to go smoothly and exactly how we wanted. The venue itself and the decor are luxurious and very clean. Pricing is very reasonable. What a great, hidden gem. Lovely setup, nice modern building with seating inside and out overlooking the golf course / grounds. Good size bar / lounge area as well as dining room. We had afternoon tea with tea for the boys and unlimited Prosecco for the girls. Food quality was high, portion sizes generous and service fast, attentive and friendly. Good value, given quality. Plenty of parking too. Well worth a visit.

A Travelzoo voucher offered a 3 course a la carte dinner for two with a carafe of wine for £49; too good to miss for a restaurant we were hoping to try. Atmosphere of a good hotel lobby but the staff were friendly and attentive. Two glasses of champagne for £28 was probably not the wisest choice and the choice of merlot, Tempranillo or Shiraz for the reds led us to a tolerable carafe of picpoul. Starters of goats cheese fritter and smoked mackerel were good. Tasty and well presented. Mains of slow roast breast of lamb and lobster and langoustine risotto were major disappointments. The lamb was very dark and it’s sauce darker and the dish had little or no flavour of lamb. It’s broad bean and samphire element was excellent. The risotto was a classic example of fine ingredients destroyed by an over powerful sauce. The delicacy of seafood and rice flavours obliterated by a powerful and excessive cheesiness. Much of the food went back to the kitchen. We did not take dessert; couldn’t be bothered. Bill for champagne and 12.5% service charge came to £40 so £89 in total. Sorry but we will not be back.

My husband & I recently had lunch at the Centurion together with friends. We have had lunches here several times before, usually on a Travelzoo or Groupon voucher. We all really enjoyed our lunch, the food & service was very good. We have bought another voucher so will be returning again soon !

I bought a voucher on groupon for Mum's birthday present.When we arrived we were sat promptly and given the tea menu. Others were sat around is and given their prosecco but I had to ask as they hadn't looked on their system.I thought I'd specifically check as I'd put on the order for one of the sandwiches to have no butter but there was no record of this even though I'd told groupon and then again when I booked on open table.Tea was then delayed to alter our sandwiches but then when I asked which were no butter they then had to whisk them back to the kitchen to swap the ones we'd been given.With the tea they specifically asked us not to pour as they'd be back -we waited but ended up doing our own (as did all of the surrounding tables) - It's simple don't offer something that you don't have time to actually do.When the open sandwich selection and rest of tea did arrive we were told one was ham and mustard - this was ham and cream cheese - maybe a mistake in the butter free rush...The scones were very good - 2 fruit, 2 plain - jam and clotted cream.The sweet treats were described as a 'selection ' - seemingly they - and we - had no idea what we were eating. Also as a twa for two we expected pairs of things so we could try them together but we had to split things as they only had singles.At the beginning we'd been told that the tea was limitless but when we order a second round it took a rather long time - coming after the food had been finished.Service was kind but overrun to offer the service in which they claim.Overall a treat that was tarnished in the end. Also we had a groupon - the price would have not been worth it full price.

We had passed the entry to this club on many occasions but only realised that we could dine there when seeing it on a travel website. We visited on a wet Friday night and found it almost full. Dining is in a large open area which has one side of the room of folding glass which presumably can be opened up in fine weather. We were met at the door and taken promptly to our table and given our menus which sensibly revealed an adequate but limited choice thus ensuring that all items could be cooked to order. We had scallops to start which were excellent followed by hake which again was beautifully cooked and presented. We finished with a superb souffle which was well worth the 15 minutes wait whilst it was cooked. There was a good choice of wine to be had both by the bottle and by the glass. Service throughout was impeccable. The room was a bit noisy and so not perhaps the best location for a quiet tete a tete but for excellent food and service this can be highly recommended.

I have visited here twice. I love fine dining and the food here is incredible! The setting as you drive in with all the lights is beautiful and you feel automatically you are somewhere special! The food has been delicious on both visits and the waiters are very nice and smiley.It is pricey but worth it for the food, I wouldn't order alcohol here though for that reason.It is somewhere where you do feel you need to be quite quiet as it is a lovely posh place, its nice as you feel like you should get dressed up nicely.Great for a romantic dinner for two or as a family.Highly recommend
