Really enjoyed our meal here - we both had the very good asparagus starter but my mains lamb was decidedly tough. A good range of bottled bears were available but we had wine. In the morning the breakfast was very good.

Convenient location for Hadrian's wall - lovely family run hotel - rooms were clean and pleasantly decorated - bed was comfortable - room was spacious. Breakfast was generous and tasty with a lot of choice - the pancakes were homemade and delicious - it is true we didn't need lunch. Private car park. Pretty town with shops and banks etc. Convenient for Sainsburys - 2 minutes walk out the back. Convenient for train station.

Came here on a whim after some late night shopping and wondered if the hotel restaurant would be atmospheric as there was only one other couple. Great service though and nice dining room. The 3-course meal was fantastic and nicely presented. We had the mushroom starter, chicken and the beef then sorbet and Stilton and crackers. I'd highly recommend dining here and reasonably priced too.

We had Dinner at this Restaurant, which consisted of a 3-course meal. The choice was limited but catered for most tastes. The wine list was comprehensive and one could order other drinks from the Bar. The portions for all three courses were big and delicious, that is with the exception of our main course which was duck. The waiter serving us did not ask as to how we liked the duck prepared and when it was served it was slightly overcooked and thus chewy. The Restaurant was happy to provide us with an alternative to the duck. Overall we were satisfied with the Dinner!

Overall, I wouldn't go back or recommend. The atmosphere is great. I got a glass of house wine. The first glass they brought me had gone bad. They brought me another. We had the duck and the chicken as our entrees. I wasn't impressed with either. The steamed vegetables were good, but the potatoes tasted like they'd been cooked with fish, also a major minus for me. The Baileys cheesecake is enormous and very good.

We visited the restaurant yesterday for Sunday lunch . Wow ! What a beautifully cooked meal . Service was excellent , dining room looked so pretty (decorated for Easter) . I had the prawn salad to start , roast duck for main and gooseberry roulade for dessert . Everything was cooked to perfection - nothing frozen , everything fresh , generous portion sizes . Very good value at £17.50 for three courses . We will definitely be coming again .

From the fresh homemade bread and friendly reception to the delightful desserts, everything that came to our table impressed and satisfied. It's not the cheapest dinner by a long shot but with three generous courses for under twenty pounds it is very good value for money.

They do a set dinner menu [about £20] which turned out to be excellent value for money. The choice was good and food delicious, especially the desserts. Eight of us had a [unanimous] really enjoyable dining experience looked after very well by Yvonne.

My family and my self was turned away. They don't serve breakfast on a Sunday. Even though it was advertised outside. "Sorry we don't serve breakfast" the 2 members of staff said standing next to a vast array of cereal and fruit juice. Very odd had the feeling that they could not be bothered. Shame we were going to book there for our next holiday, staff seamed a little up helpful.

My wife and I have visited the centre of Britain hotel on several occasions in the last 2years and I can honestly say the whole experience is 1st class, the welcome, setting, service, price and most importantly the quality of the food. We have booked our wedding reception evening meal this weekend as it was the only choice for us. If you want top quality food then book a table and enjoy.

I have ate at The Centre of Britain on numerous occasions, family meals,Valentines Night and many more, but always after each time I visit it just gets better and better! We chose to have my Dads 60th birthday celebrations there on Saturday 27th July 2013 and it was AMAZING!!Christine the hotel manager and Chef put on a hot buffet to die for, the food was beautiful, with all the extra special touches like homemade bread that said happy 60th birthday Terry..what can I say,it all tasted exquisite. The two young men that were waiting on and serving drinks were Thomas and Will, they were so friendly and very professional, everyone commented on them, they are an assett to you Christine.I would just like to say Thank you to Christine Thomas and Will for a very special celebration, that wouldn't have been as special if it wasn't for you guys..thank you again and I look forward to our next meal with you all.

My family and I recently holidayed in the lovely Northumberland region of Gilsland and whilst there my sister booked this lovely Hotel Restaurant for my husbands 60th birthday. The staff were very attentive and friendly, they placed us in our own private area to eat, they printed individual personalised menus for us, and made fresh bread pieces in the name of my husband. The meal was first class, the portion sizes were very generous and the price was excellent £19.95 for 3 courses. We would like to say a very big thank you for a lovely evening to everyone involved. We will certainly revisit when back in that part of the country.

Good food and wine at modest prices and friendly service. As a small group of five we were offered the private dining room (Pele Tower?) which provided a nice ambience.

My husband and I were in a party of about 20 people and went for our meal at this Hotel. Everyone was welcomed by Christine and her staff who are courteous and very helpful. We had a drink in the Bar area and then sat down to a mouthwatering three course meal, lots to choose from and the service was first class. Since our visit we have been a few time since and everything has been first class and the menu is unbelievable. All food freshly cooked and delicious. I certainly would advise anyone to visit. You will certainly come away full and happy.

Played today, Mon 26th August, Great layout, but sadly the greens are diseased and awful, and the tee boxes are terrible, very expensive bar, and no food being served, even though there was a competition on, and the bar was busy, Sadly one to miss in the future.

We visited Hexham yesterday and found this café in the Market Place, after a lovely River Tyne walk. It was quite busy at 1pm but we didn't have to wait long for our table. The girls made us feel very welcome and worked so hard while we were there clearing tables and getting everyone seated as soon as possible. My husband had a bacon sarnie and I had a ham and mushroom omelette which was so light and fluffy, delicious. Coffees were great too. Plenty of choice on the menu and great prices. Doggy friendly too with a treat for pooch 🐾

What a welcoming, hospitable place. If you ever need cheering up, this is the place to go. We were made welcome immediately, and tony the owner had us in stiches from the start. Everyone there were so friendly, and what had started as an intended short visit, led to us staying to closing. Met some brilliant characters, who all just made our day. Dog friendly too, which was an added bonus to us. Can't recommend enough.
