Visited today whilst on holiday in the area where we have visited numerous cafes & restaurants. Whilst the food was ok (toastie. & jacket) the staff were not. They did not seem to want to be there & made no attempt to speak & didn’t make eye contact. We were not greeted on arrival or acknowledged when we left & did not receive any conversation when food was ordered or delivered!! There were no please or thank you at any point from either of the two young girls serving. The chef did not acknowledge any customers either. Other customers also tried to make conversation but without success. So if you’re looking for a friendly welcoming cafe this is not the place to visit.

Called in for a coffee and panini half an hour before a dental appointment. Although there were only a few customers and no-one else waiting to be served, I waited 5 minutes before my order was taken. 20 minutes later I received my coffee but no panini. It eventually arrived as I was leaving for my appointment. When I explained how long I had been waiting, the waitress pulled a rude face and walked away - no apology. I won't be back - there are other coffee shops in Moreton.

My husband and I had a beautiful all day breakfast and to my surprise, the majority of items in the breakfast were gluten free. A very warm welcome and excellent service, would highly recommend and will be making a return visit. Thank you.

Only called in as the Horse opposite was closed. So was very pleased I had done. Delightful bustling cafe. Good quality hot coffee and a toasted teacake. Just hit the spot. Will definately call again when in town.

I go here most days for a flat white and it is such a pleasant place with many regulars looking for a chat. The breakfasts are renowned especially by locals, cyclists and local builders (often on a Friday!). The young staff know their regulars and coffee is often served without placing the order and just a friendly wave. The owner does most of the cooking which also includes imaginative lunches and afternoon tea. Well worth a visit when you are in Moreton. It's right next to the Tourist Information Centre, in fact they have interlinking doors!

Popped into Central Cafe in Moretonhampstead yesterday for a quick and easy lunch, our son had sausage, beans and chips, I had a ham salad baguette with chips which was tasty and made quickly. Nice quiet location within easy walking distance of the town. Looking at the reviews the breakfast here is very popular and highly recommended so I think I’ll be coming back again soon to try!

We stopped at this cafe on our travels a couple of months ago and thought we would return when visiting the area again - we weren't disappointed - my husband had The Works breakfast and I had the Vegetarian. It was all hot, well cooked and comes with toast and marmalade. Our coffees were still notably hot when we had finished our breakfast! Our dog was also welcome. We will be visiting again 😁thank you

We ordered soya lattes and cakes. Both were well made and served with a smile. We chose to sit outside and it is a lovely place to watch the bustle of town while enjoying the sunshine. A gem of a cafe.

Avoid this place. It has a central location which it doesn't deserve. The food is unimaginative and the service dreadful. We waited over 40 minutes for a simple soup and a scone to arrive. The scone was like a rock, and could have been used as an offensive weapon. Bring your own sandwiches.

We were planning to go walking in Dartmoor and stopped here for morning coffee. The menu looked so good we returned for lunch after our walk. We weren’t disappointed- perfectly cooked steak with pepper sauce, buttery garlic mushrooms and really crisp chips, yum! Went down well with a glass of red wine for me and a local beer for the other half. Cakes looked good but we were too full to sample them. Service was excellent and staff were really friendly.

I have never been to Moretonhampstead before, and my sisters and I fetched up here having driven across Dartmoor from Wotter where we had been staying at the very comfortable Moorland Hotel there. The drive had been stunning early in the morning, as the rising sun rose to illuminate the glorious countryside in every direction you looked.

Our third visit this year confirmed the excellence of this little gem of a café. We make sure that we stop here on the way to Devon and Cornwall, and this time brought friends, who were also impressed with the menu and value for money. The special of the day was crab and leek gratin, which was good (it needed to be served hotter for our taste), but the chilli is my favourite, and is exceptional. It was a shame that no white wine was available, but the pricing of the red made up for it at £2.50 a mini bottle.

The Central Cafe in Moretonhampstead has a very good ambience and four of us dropped in for a light meal. Two people we were with had been there before. The decor of the cafe is fresh and inviting and there is a good variety of offerings on the menu. There was a pleasant young man acting as waiter but unfortunately he had not been well preped and couldn't answer many questions regarding the menu and didn't know what the daily specials were. The young lady behind the counter made little effort to engage and didn't smile at all. We had drinks and light meals and unfortunately the meals which should have been hot, such as a pasty, chilli and cheese melts were luke warm. The prices were reasonable but overall it was not a very memorable culinary experience. A number of basics were missing....trained and engaged staff and hot food. Not a big ask. It may have been a bad day and the Central Cafe does have a good feel about it so maybe give it ago.

We stopped by today for lunch having previously bought the excellent take away pasties. I can't tell you how great the homemade chilli con carne and rice is, at this lovely little cafe! It is a personal recipe of the French Chef, and we noted the approving comments of other diners about their other menu choices. If you are heading onto, or off Dartmoor, then this is the place to call in for genuinely good refreshment at reasonable prices.

We called into this cafe whilst staying in Moretonhampstead and found it really welcoming and friendly. There was a good choice of food and snacks and the hot chocolate was delicious. You can sit at tables outside which is nice - watch the world go by! We happened to be there on Moreton Music Day, so there was a small band playing inside the cafe which really added to the vibe!

Nice coffee and a great range of cakes and light bites, the service was very pleasant also.A great place to watch Moorland life!!Would much recommend and will be calling again one day!

Stopped for lunch after walking from Lustleigh with a friend on Tuesday 26/3. She had a tasty baguette and I had the most delicious cheesy chips. The service was great, the atmosphere was warm and cosy and the waitress was so welcoming. The cakes looked amazing too. We're planning a return visit soon

Disappointed. Tea cakes looked lovely but were cold, served with frozen butter which we couldn't spread as it disintegrated into lumps. Cappucino horrible-scalding hot, milk over-worked and did not taste of coffee. Poor.
