Centenary Restaurant (南大餐厅) in Southampton

Fantastic food, bright and spacious atmosphere. And the robots are brilliant, would definitely recommend to friends and family!

The best Sichuan food I’ve ever had in Southampton! It will be convenient to have dinner with classmates after class.

Authentic in colour but not in taste. Throughout my entire life, I have never encountered such a lacklustre dining experience. Every sauce served was excessively diluted, lacking any discernible flavour. Where has the salt gone? The chicken chow mein was transformed into an onion chow mein, adorned with a mere garnish of chicken. Satay chicken, which was originally intended to taste like peanuts, was instead served as a bland imitation. There are superior sachets available at Asda that could replicate this dish. As a native of Hong Kong, I had hoped to find a familiar establishment from my childhood. However, Southampton boasts a plethora of dining options that surpass this one. The impersonal robots employed to serve food are utterly unappealing. Their primary objective should be to employ staff, not to replace human interaction. In retrospect, I would have preferred to order takeout rather than wasting my time here.

Food is delicious! very big portions, service is great, if you go with kids they will love it two robots bring the food =) Really good price and the restaurant is really nice decorated, my son loved it we will definitely come back!

Lots of very authentic regional Chinese cuisine. Many of the dishes were top notch. Can recommend the ma po fish.

It's better than my thought! Students who like Chinese food can come and try it! It's about 10-20 pounds per person. When the consumption is over 8.5 pounds, rice and soup are free.

We can all understand the price increase recently since we opened the restaurant the year before last. But today when I was eating at noon, I found that the bowl was not clean, so I put it aside. A staff member saw it and came over and asked in a bad tone what the problem was. I politely said that there was something dark inside. Show her the black one and she immediately threw the bowl back into the pile of bowls after watching it? What is this attitude and approach?

Great authentic chinese food with too many selections. We went there for dinner on a Saturday. Did not regret trying. Will definitely go back again.

So glad to have bumped into the old owners of Garden Restaurant. I would love to come back again. *孜然羊肉 is slightly too dry to my liking. Love 四季豆. Leftovers are even more flavorful the next day but can get really salty.

The lunch boxes and evening a la carte are both good. It’s close to the school and you may have to queue up at meal times.

Top class food. One of our party is a frequent visitor to China and he said it was the best he'd had outside of China.

I was grateful that the owner was so kind! There are many types of food, but I ate it because they recommended it, and it was really delicious! It tasted like seasoned chicken. It's crispy and sweet. Recommendation. And I ate noodles in white soup, and it tasted like bone broth and was delicious. Eat this too!!! I also had stir-fried eggplant, mapo tofu, and fried rice, and it was spicy and delicious. There is a lot of food. The price is reasonable and it is clean, so I think I will come here often. You have to cook and eat separately. There were 4 children and 4 adults, and we ordered about 5 dishes, including a large bowl of white rice and fried rice for 2 people, and we were very full. If you order a large bowl of fried rice, it is enough for two people.

The food is very good, taste excellent, service nice and friendly with excellent Robots service!

Fantastic venue ,fantastic food

We popped in on a self guided tour of the university. What a gem! Delicious food, quick attentive service, and a reasonable price. If we are back in Southampton we will return.

So the pricing is based on weight yet the plates are HEAVY and it is deliberately not deducted. The concept of a buffet is not only that you're responsible for how much food you take but that there's a flat price!! The food is good ig if you really enjoy Chinese cuisine.

Extremely rude manager!! Treated me like a child when I went to order taunting me throughout my experience. The atmosphere and robots are nice and the food is mediocre.

The staff is very friendly, the decoration is elaborate, and the atmosphere is good. Got serving robot which added some special jazz. Got bubble tea that you can order as well. Highly recommended.

Great place for students to eat (first part of the day) - free rice and soup and selection of really tasty food makes it my best option at university!!

I had my lunch here for the first time. It’s kind of buffet style but count it by the weight. The price is reasonable for a normal portion size. The food is tasty and they have many choices. But there was a long queue, it took around 10 mins only.

Had my birthday here, best birthday ever, especially the reboots, sing the birthday song for me. The food is so great, and the bro with black shirt is so profession, kind and funny.

Very busy, food goes on weight very expensive £29.00 for buffet meal should be cheaper & same price for buffet, food should not go on weight. Very busy hard to get a table to sit down.

The heartburn started 5 minutes after a meal and continued till evening....than other symptoms were welcomed....I ate small amount thank God and it was delicious just a bit poisonous....or maybe I am not used to this amount of fat in EVERYTHING, and as a response to review, it was not spicy at all, I love spicy food, it was just very fatty.

Never eat at the centenary restaurant. The prices are despicable and it’s a disgrace they are allowed to operate on university premises whilst ripping students off. My friend and I ate at the lunch buffet and have been ripped off terribly. For a normal sized amount of food it cost me £23 and my friend £19. These prices are so expensive to be charging students, especially at a buffet. The food tastes average, no better than what you could get at a normal Chinese takeaway for a third of the price. Clearly this restaurant doesn’t want repeat customers. The owner must be a millionaire charging these prices whilst having a queue out the door. I will never return!

Very nice atmosphere, delivery robots were unique and an entertaining idea, staff were polite and attentive, the restaurant gave off a fairly fancy vibe and was very well presented. The food was slightly pricier than other places we've been, but fair for the higher quality atmosphere - worked out to £25 a head for starters, duck and mains so not bad at all. Complementary watermelon slice and fortune cookie at the end was a nice touch.

A male employee of this store treats foreigners as if he were his father, and looks down on Chinese people when he sees them.

中餐来讲很好吃的一家了，牛肉的品质没的说，鸡肉很嫩，没吃到过很踩雷的菜。去过很多次，实惠方便，口味上佳。餐厅干净，服务生打扫很勤快。老板很亲切。奶茶档口味也好。

Service was good to start (human) and then a robot started bringing the food. Whatever next? Food was good with a noisy canteen atmosphere.

Lunch buffet - £7.34 Food are fair, but you can get everything you want with a cheap price. Definitely recommend trying it.

感觉不错啊，一顿饭13磅能吃很饱了。菜的味道很正；米饭和汤免费，米饭不大行但是汤很不错。附近其他私人餐馆一碗牛腩面一瓶饮料也快这个价格了。算是来南安第一顿像样子的饭。

This is the best Chinese restaurant I’ve been in. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is lovely. The staff are so patient in explaining the menu to us because we like authentic Chinese food but we can't eat too spicy. I ordered baked lamb chop, spicy crispy prawn and Sichuan boiled seabass. They also serve bubble tea and I have order signature lemon tea. It's very refreshing.

Brand new authentic Chinese cuisine in Southampton. There are lots of dishes to choose from on the menu. Especially spicy food. I had grilled sea bass, beef with cumin and garlic, and Henan stewed handmade noodles which tasted excellent. Very interesting that they serve food by using adorable robots. I will bring my friends and family next time.

Not a great place for vegans/vegetarians as none of the food labeled as suitable. Food is very expensive, one plate and a drink almost £26. Food was not warm. Allergy info is generic and not dish specific. Staff were helpful in pointing out allergens and vegetable options though.

去过好多次了 ，味道超级好，价格没有小红书说的那么贵，感觉都是可以接受的，超级喜欢，开在campus里面也很方便，肯定是上学期间光顾最多的一家餐厅了！自我体验非常棒已经推荐给很多朋友了。

其实我本来觉得没那么糟糕的，甚至在刚开业的时候我认为南大就是全南安普敦第一中餐馆。 但是我没想到南大的水军在小红书上居然铺天盖地的乱喷乱吠….这么败坏人缘的事情很难继续支持吧

Visited about about 3 times now, the food is amazing especially that I can get a whole fish, fabulous portions, very clean. Love the ice tea bar at the side and the little robots. The staff are all so friendly and will do anything to accommodate you. Better food, portions and price than Shanghi 1418.

Just had an evening meal here and the food was so delicious. It’s great value for money as the quantities are massive. We are carrying home three boxes of leftover for dinner tonight :)) the staff was warm and our host was especially funny and jolly! Everything tasted amazing but we especially loved the Mapo Tofu. Will be back soon!!

Imagine opening a group chat to communicate with customers, then ending up fighting with the customers, ignoring every complaint. And in the end just shutting the group chat down because the arguments got ugly, and just couldn’t withhold unleashing their anger towards your own customers.😂😂😂

They are constantly rising the prices week by week making it very expensive for very mediocre food and the ordered food does not look at all like the photos they put on their menu

Very tasty traditional food, great selection. A bit expensive for a student place (very easy to spend £12-15) but good for an occasional treat. Self service, charged by weight, with free soup and rice.

Overall good restaurant in Uni and food is clean and high quality but price is a little bit high

If I could give less than a star, I would. This is a complete rip-off, but this is apparently the business model of the owners. I went to the restaurant for the lunch buffet and the food which was of average quality cost me three times as much as any other buffet in town!! Clearly not interested in return customers!!

Delicious food with very affordable prices! It's located right at the Centenary Building (100) so it is super convenient to grab lunch or dinner with friends. The food came fast and the portions were filling. Lots of seats as well!
