Ceilidh Place in Highland

The Ceilidh Place is really welcoming with a warm stove and lively atmosphere. The food was amazing and the service was fast and really friendly. Highly recommended 👌.

Meal here whilst touring Scotland and staying locally. Had pre-booked which was fortunate as busy. Attentive young man serving us. Menu varied and something for everyone. Food arrived. Nicely presented, good size portions and piping hot. We really enjoyed our meal here.

Glücklicherweise hatten wir per Mail einen Tisch für 3 Personen reserviert. Das Restaurant war übervoll und man war wohl, schon in der 2. oder 3. Abendschicht. Ein ausgiebiges Menü wurde schnell und freundlich serviert. Wir hateten uns die Speisekarte vorher im Internet anschauen können, dehalb kein langes Fackeln.

Very nice meal. Squid starter was ridiculously large so watch your portions. Beetroot Risotto with Feta and pesto was very very nice and poached eggs with black pudding and scone was a left field choice but was very awesome. Service great, atmosphere good. Would go back in a shot.

A fine example of the Scottish Full Breakfast, sit back to enjoy a plateful of local bacon, sausage, black pudding, egg, beans, mushrooms, toast and - personal favourite - tattie scone. Nice relaxed vibes and good coffee too. Ahhh!

Stopped here for breakfast during our Highland tour and it did not disappoint. A great fry up and fantastic coffee. A lovely place to sit and I would love to come back for a few pints one evening with live music. We are doing another Highland tour in October and tried to book a room here but it was full so we are staying nearby and we are hoping to come back for dinner and a few drinks.

Heute Abend waren wir (meine Frau mein Sohn und ich) hier zum Nachtessen…absolut nicht zu empfehlen. Fleisch sehr zäh, Fries wenig Geschmack und Salat ohne Sauce. Zudem sehr laut und unprofessionelles Personal. Wir haben in Schottland überall deutlich besser gegessen!!

I was shocked at the over priced food..I had a very small fish and a few chips the fish was so over cooked I could hardly eat it. My husband had a burger and a few chips..two small cups of cold coffee £40 and change. People will stop coming to Ullapool like us...we have been coming for years now but wont be back.

We spent a few hours in this place the night before catching the ferry to stornoway. Fab drinks selection and great staff. Warm lot burner and book shop next door to purchase books.

Cosy atmosphere and inviting. Friendly and attentive staff and delicious food. We arrived for a late lunch, the venue was busy, but we were seated quickly by a friendly server. She advised as on presenting the menus that there was no monkfish or mussels left (shows how popular they were). Was happy to be informed of this as there’s nothing worse than deciding on something from the menu, then to be told when your order is taken that they don’t have it! There were still plenty of other offerings on menu to suit though. We had Mushroom broth, Squid rings & Ceilidh Place burger, all of which were very tasty and perfectly cooked. Reasonable priced for the quality of food compared to other restaurants In Ullapool. Would not hesitate to return again.

Overall I can recommend this place as the food was great, although when I first sat down no one came with a menu for ages. However the service improved when a lovely friendly and helpful girl (I think she was Australian?) noticed that none of the other staff were interested and came and made some recommendations and took my order. There is also an impressive bookshop with a very wide range of titles, local, national and international - from classics to high end just published. Overall despite the initial lukewarm welcome it was ok.

Good food and nice atmosphere, delicious hot chocolate ! Also has a cute little bookshop. My only criticism is that we had to ask for menus after we had been sat down, no one came to bring them to us.

Thank goodness for the Ceilidh Place staying open in October when every other place has given up and shut up at end of the season. While waiting for ferry to Stornoway we were looking for a place to sit and have tea/coffee but Ullapool has few places open at this time of year. Asked in Calmac office where was open and they suggested the Ceilidh Place. So many people waiting for the ferry wandering around looking for somewhere to go and sit in. Well done the lovely Ceilidh Place for providing a much needed service. Will use in the future.

Contrary to some recent reviews, the food was great and the service fast and friendly. Highly recommended for lunch. The salad selection was interesting (bramble, beetroot and goat's cheese!) and reasonably priced; the halloumi burger good.

This bar, restaurant, bookshop, art gallery … and hotel is so well placed for the ferry to the Outer Hebrides but having stayed there for one night to do just this - we will return for a longer break because it was so good. Clean, warm and comfortable room. An upstairs lounger with an honesty bar for drinks (including alcoholic) and lovely sofas and chairs to read in a quiet space away from the bar/restaurant. The bookshop was outstanding. Food great. We were no there alas on a music night but I bet the atmosphere would be terrific. Excellent.

I returned here having visited years ago. The memory had stayed with me. This is such a welcoming and cosy place, special. The bar and restaurant are great. The food is very good and the selection of beer and wine. So impressed they had two gluten free beers to chose from. The staff are all welcoming and lovely. Particular shout out to Amy who served us. What a charming and efficient host, she is very attentive and made our experience really memorable. Thank you all. This place holds a particular place in my heart!

We booked a couple of weeks in advance and had high hopes for this restaurant. Unfortunately, the staff seemed completely disinterested in us. For example, apart from taking our order and bringing us the bill, we were ignored all evening. This is very different from our usual experience from visiting other hotels and restaurants in the area. The food was only average and expensive for what it was. We left very disappointed and will definitely not make the mistake of visiting the Ceilidh Place restaurant again.

Very homely and welcoming place not far from the ferry terminal. The place is spacious and accommodating a family of 6. Good choice of food and very reasonably priced. Staff are friendly and attentive.

A really fabulous dinner at very reasonable prices , The Ceilidh Place ticked all the boxes for us. A lovely buzzy atmosphere and a huge wood burner on a chilly evening were very welcoming. We started with a starter portion of a wonderful mushroom risotto, full of flavour and delicious. Followed with a burger that was just about perfect. Would love to have tried a dessert but will have to go back another time for that. The service too was faultless thanks to Gemma.

Best place to eat in Ullapool. We come every year for the guitar festival and just book in for dinner every night. Service is lovely, warm cosy atmosphere and food is great, including the veggies options. Husband said the IPA on tap was really good, as was the wine, reasonable priced in the curried climate. Been twice so far this trip and already looking forward to dinner tonight. Everything from crispy Cauliflower wings with kimchi to local.mussels in cider and chorizo has been delicious. It's a lovely place to stay too .

After the reviews I read, I found the place somewhat subdued, although it was Sunday night. Our server, though not rude, was probably the least engaging person we’d experienced in Scotland. My husband ordered the pork chop, but they were sold out, so he had the smash burger, which he enjoyed. I had wild mushroom risotto which was delicious.
