Following a recommendation, we called for Sunday lunch and I'm so glad we did. The warm welcome from the staff, the service, the food and the ambience were all excellent. Sunday lunch was delicious and plentiful, but if you've still got a bit of room left, try the sticky toffee pudding, toffee sauce and ice cream...beautiful! Thanks to everyone at the Cayley Arms for a first class service.

Made a return visit to the Cayley Arms in need of a rest and some great food. It didn’t disappoint as usual. Room was spotlessly clean, wonderfully comfortable bed and the food as expected was as good as ever. Ate in the restaurant, the blade of beef was wonderful had a great nights sleep followed by my favourite bit……..breakfast….10/10. Looking forward to another visit in the spring.

Stayed here for a couple of nights, unfortunately it’s Next to a busy main noisy road, our room was absolutely tiny any cat would love it here knowing it couldn’t ever be swung around. Plastic decor en-suite expected a little more for nearly £140 a night, food was ok but definitely not worth the asking price, also I’m positive the waitress must have had a personality bypass. Personally I would have preferred a premier inn with more space friendly staff and saved £50

My wife and I searched online for a base for a 4 day itinerary in the area and are so pleased that we found the Cayley Arms. Quiet and comfortable accommodation and excellent food. The popularity of the bar and restaurant in the evenings with 'local' people speaks volumes. Tim and Becky are great hosts and made us feel at home. Will certainly recommend to friends and hope to stay again.

We stayed in Cayley Arms for 3 nights with some friends and had a lovely time. Tim and Becky are so welcoming and offered lots of tips on places to visit while we were there. My husband and friend wanted to go to the car auction rooms in Pickering which is nearby and we explored the area. Coming back at the end of the day to lovely food and service in the restaurant topped it off. They served a lovely cooked breakfast each morning and we can’t forget the home made bread. 😀 Would highly recommend the Cayley Arms to anyone visiting the area. It’s in a quiet countryside location and it’s a beautiful spot.

Just back from spending a great weekend at this fabulous country inn. Becky and Tim are excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome from the off and nothing was too much trouble, The rooms are spotless with lovely decor, comfy beds, beautiful bathroom and even enjoy the benefit of luxuriously soft bath robes! (Great choice Becky) The food at Cayley arms is amazing.. we ate in the restaurant both nights we were there and the quality and presentation and quantity of the menu is faultless and so very delicious. Had dinner on Saturday 30th March and although the food was very good what let things down was the wait. Booked for 6:15 because they could not do the 6:30 time we wanted. On arrival was asked what drinks we would like, not shown to our table nor any idea what food we were going to have. We were left standing near the bar for 15 minutes before being shown to our table which funnily enough was the time we wanted! We ordered quite quickly then had to wait an hour and 15 minutes for our food to arrive. No explanation that there was any delay and no apology when the food arrived. We then had to wait another 20 minutes to get our bill and pay. Not a good evening.

We had the most fabulous stay at Craven Bungalow in Allerston, where the hosts insisted that we must eat at the Caley Arms, just a short pleasant walk through this picture postcard village to the end of the road. And what a recommendation it was! This pub must be the best in North Yorkshire. The Sunday dinner is the best I have ever eaten out. Generous home cooked food with a Michelin Star finish. My poor granny would be spinning in her box if she knew how highly I would rate this Sunday dinner over hers (God bless her). Becks and Tim gave such a warm friendly welcome that it felt more like a home coming than walking into a busy Yorkshire pub. It was so refreshing not to be tripping over soggy dogs blocking the way to the bar (thankfully no dogs allowed) or to have ill behaved kids shouting and screaming in the corners, it is so well run. The locals are a bit of a queer crowd. Well behaved, welcoming and friendly, but a bit strange if you know what I mean? But this just adds perfectly to the ambiance of this quaint and quintessentially "North Yorkshire" hidden treasure. 10/10. We can not wait until next time.

We visited The Caley on 15/12/19 as we 1st met there 35 years to the day ago so it seemed an appropriate anniversary to celebrate. The renovation of this once quite run down pub has brought it bang up to date for the 21st century whilst retaining the essential character of the building. I'd booked us into the dining room for Sunday lunch and we had a drink in the bar 1st. The food was amazing, I am a coeliac and I know a lot of places struggle with gluten free food, NOT The Caley, my food was literally the best Sunday lunch I've ever had and I can cook really well myself, (I know, self praise is no recommendation!), and I come from a large family of cooks but this was just perfect. The gluten free Yorkshire pudding was well risen and tasty and had a good texture, it was filled with delicious well cooked tender roast pork, the vegetables were sheer perfection, just tender, tasty & colourful, the gravy was flavourful and a great consistency. I really couldn't fault it at all. Andy had the same as me but is not a coeliac so his was not gluten free and he had roast beef. We both had a pudding, I had the delicious, sharp lemon posset with berries on top, just right for cleansing the palate and Andy had the apple crumble and custard, again we couldn't fault it. The staff were really nice and kind and helpful, attentive with being intrusive and very good humoured. Our whole experience at The Caley was really positive and we had a wonderful anniversary meal. We can't recommend this place highly enough. I would just say that if you are a coeliac please tell them when you book, that gives them a chance to make sure they have everything they need to make your meal as good and as memorable as ours was. Jan and Andy

My husband and I ordered starters and mains. We received complimentary bread which was delicious , I think sun-dried tomato and olive. A little butter or oil would have completed the offering perfectly. Starters arrived , haddock risotto and a prawn cocktail. No complaintsOur mains were a braised beef dish and the lamb belly . Both excellent although the jus was a little too rich for our taste but we enjoyed it all the same and I would have preferred extra veg for both meals rather than one .We declined the dessert menu although were extremely tempted. With two drinks each the bill was a respectable £59.00 .The service was friendly and attentive -we will definitely return and would recommend to others.

Limited menu but was assured it was cooked fresh which we prefer. Would liked to have seen a freshly cooked childrens menu though because there was no childrens menu at all. My 2 children will eat freshly cooked food and with a little imagination can be done for children, does not need to be too fancy but also does not need to be frozen rubbish. Ambience was lovely. My husband ordered the beer battered fish, chunky chips and mushy peas- he enjoyed this (shared with our 8yr old daughter) My son ordered the small beer battered fish and chunky chips. I ordered the mushroom risotto, as i am vegetarian (no other choice for a veggie) it was very tasty, we ordered extra vegetables which were very good. In all a lovely meal. Just the above grumble about no childrens fresh cooked food menu and the lack vegetarian options.

We had booked this restaurant to celebrate my Grandma's birthday as a family member recommending it. From start to finish we had tried to be as easy to handle as possible, even providing all the food orders four days prior for our table of 10 people. However, even this was frustrating considering the menu changed and people had to re-order some starters the day before - not an issue that we minded so much, so we moved on.

Been here a few times and always delighted - but this last time was superb. The food was just outstanding.. Scallops cooked to perfection and the best black pudding I have ever tasted. Our main course, also from the specials board, was cooked precisely to our request - taken personally by the chef himself. He is called Fab and he lives up to his name. This is high class cooking in a friendly local atmosphere. (We have also used the restaurant on another occasion for a more formal setting. Views out of the window of a lovely garden and stream made for a special vibe) Attentive and not intrusive at table service was a real plus. We took my wife’s elderly parents out for Sunday lunch, my father in law is an amputee in a wheelchair, there is adequate access at the side of the Inn, we had a sunny nook in the bar by the front windows, the decor is very modern and stylish, not exactly what you expect as you have an almost Tudor exterior. It’s nicely done but a little stark? There was a Christmas tree in the bar and Christmas music playing, it was also very busy, there were a couple of large parties enjoying a Christmas lunch, the manageress welcomed us warmly and drinks were ordered and appeared in quick time, she said they were very busy and could we be a little patient with them, we were in no rush and chatted happily. After a while our order was taken, the food was very tasty, we had a delicious minestrone soup and bread with caraway seeds, the mains were beef, turkey and haddock, there was a vegetarian option for starters and mains, the food was served piping hot, cold food is a pet peeve of mine so I was very happy! The portions were generous, the veggies very tasty, in all the food was great! None of us ordered desserts so cannot comment, beer was good, prices were good! Only a couple of complaints, very minor, no internet for anyone other than “Guests” staying in the rooms! The knives were very blunt and my mother in law could not cut her beef and had to have it cut by me! The men’s bathroom was very difficult to use as a handicapped person, the hall is narrow and the door difficult to use from a wheelchair. It was very clean and modern though. I highly recommend this place, it food was great, the staff pleasant if very busy. We will be back very soon.

It was the best Sunday dinner me & my husband have had (we’ve had a lot). It was £13 for one course and £18 for 2. I thought for the quality of food this was reasonably priced and would highly recommend and definitely go back. I think it would be best to phone in advance and book a table to save disappointment. Staff were also friendly and smiley.

We found the owners unwelcoming, it costs nothing to smile. Whilst the food was good quality produce, the menu was limited and definitely overpriced. It is essentially bar food but at restaurant prices. There are far better inns in the area which serve food at this quality for more realistic pub prices. We won’t bother returning.

Had a great meal here, a fabulous home made steak pie with beautifully cooked vegetables and crushed new potatoes for me and everyone else enjoyed the burger from the specials board.

We called at the last minute on Sunday and were told that food wasn’t usually served in the evening but they were serving food as a ‘trial’. We knew that the menu would be restricted and that was fine with us. The dining room lacks atmosphere so we chose to sit in the bar. It is beautifully decorated and is a pleasant room to sit in. We chose a window seat but were bothered by flies for much of our meal. The restricted menu was fine but most mains were around the £20 mark. We chose fish and chips (£14) and were surprised when it was served with potato wedges. That said, the fish was fresh and the batter was light. There was quite literally a tablespoon of peas in a dish at the side and the same of tartare sauce. The chef was kind enough to prepare something specially for our child as there was no children’s option on the menu. It was the service that really put a damper on our experience. I wouldn’t call it unfriendly but we got the feeling that taking food orders and checking if everything was OK really was beneath one of the members of staff. We won’t bother visiting again - it isn’t worth a second shot.

I almost don't want to tell you how good this little village pub is for food incase I can't get in next time I visit Allerston! Looking for somewhere to eat before heading for the campsite, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, along with our two border collies and enjoyed a beautiful, well presented, perfectly cooked and tasty meal. They sell decent wine and they serve proper G&T;'s with good quality tonic in a gin balloon(which means a lot to me!). The service was excellent - whilst waiting to pay my bill at the bar, I saw (I think the owner) checking the wine glasses before he filled them! How often do you get a mucky glass in a pub?! A pet hate of mine. I only wish we'd known about it the day before as we would have watched the football there too! The bill came to £67, that's two of us sharing a starter, two main meals, a shared dessert, bottle of red, a G&T; and a pint - when you break it down, that's not bad value for the high standard of everything we received. They have a very smart and comfortable interior - whatever they are doing, they're doing it well and I wish the owners and staff lots of success. Summing it up in one word - Quality. My advise? Treat yourselves!

After a recommendation we came to the Cayley Arms at Allerston today - what a fantastic place we sat in the garden and had a couple of drinks before dinner. The bar and restaurant are beautifully decorated and the staff and owners very welcoming - and the food absolutely gorgeous so tasty and beautifully presented! Well worth a visit we will be back very soon!

Dropped by for a romantic meal for 2. Warm welcome from all the staff with quick service, good selection of beers and very nice decor. We had the belly pork and steak pie on recommendation from the locals, both very tasty meals, the steak pie was up there with the best ive had! Plenty of food as im a big eater. Would highly recommend and will be visiting again im sure! Also dog friendly and rooms available which the landlord let us have a nosy around, again very well planned rooms and no expense spared!

We stumbled across the Cayley Arms during a week’s holiday in North Yorkshire. Having recently changed hands the pub has undergone a major makeover. The new owners have clearly invested a lot of time and money. A vey nice village pub, well worth a visit. They are currently refurbishing the letting rooms and if they are done to the same standard as the bar it will be a lovely place to stay. We wish the new owners all the best and every success.

Lovely atmosphere and very busy. A lovely meeting place for the village. Just opened after a massive refurbishment. Not recognisable from the old surroundings. No food yet but have a local Pizza company on site outside with a pizza oven on a Friday night serving pizzas delivered inside which are very good. The owners still have a lot of work to do refurbishing the bedrooms and the kitchen. Look forward to it opening fully hopefully in the spring.

Called in for tea after seeing big sign advertising pub food. Told they haven't served food for a long time. Why advertise it if it no longer applies? Did not stay for a drink.

We booked a Saturday evenings table for 2 some 10 days in advance. On arrival the pub restaurant was busy and our reserved table had to be the smallest they had and in the middle of the room with almost no room for other diners or staff to get past us. We would have had the sharing platter which looked delicious but there was no room on the table to place it.We ordered from the wine list and it turned up quickly in a wine chiller with ice. No offer to taste it or confirm it was what we ordered. Two wine glasses also arrived with the young waiters Thumbs inside them! He had dissapeared so I went to open the wine, but the screw top was not sealed!!The food ordered was excellent, but within an hour of returning home I was very ill. Then I remembered the waiter and his thumbs in the wine glass's. I had also seen him reset an empty table with thumbs in the wine glasses and holding the cutlery by the eating ends...If it was not that, the only thing I ate that my wife did not (she was OK afterwards) was the Tartar sauce - how had it been stored? It was a very hot evening and it should have been in the fridge.

We had a family meal here for 4 adults and 4 children. The restaurant seemed very clean and looked inviting. The waiter who was a young man of about 18 was very helpful and friendly. All our meals and drinks came as ordered and we were checked upon several times. Everyone enjoyed their food and it was very good value for money. Will definitely come here again

My colleague and I were staying at Rains Farm (see review) for B&B on 6th July and wanted to eat locally so our host suggested the Cayley Arms to which we booked a table in the restaurant area (approx sitting for 36).The waiters were very helpful and friendly and good service. We had to start ...Creamy garlic mushrooms £4.25 with a home made little loaf(lovely touch)....Smoked mackerel pate with lemon mayonnaise and small side salad £4.25 (very tasty) followed by which we both had 10oz Rib eye steak (medium rare-cooked to perfection) complete with chips, peas, mushrooms and onion rings £14.95.Having finished our meal we sat outside by the brook for a relaxing drink to end an enjoyable evening.Tel...01723 859338Web ..thecayley-arms.co.uk

It would look like I’m beating a drum for this pub! But we keep going back because to be honest it is just such good value. Tried their two steaks for £20, choice of rump, sirloin or ribeye, we both went for sirloin, superb, cooked as we wanted, medium rare, salad, mushrooms, peas, onion rings, and a separate bowl of chips. You must try it! I also think you will find it harder to get a better pint of bitter, landlady told me lines are cleaned at the change of every barrel as well as normal cleaning.

"you enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" said the bar room sign which greeted this weary wanderer who'd taken a wrong turn. I ordered a pint and sure enough before it was pulled I was in conversation with a local man who thenintroduced me to the bar staff! The Sunday Roast was in full swing, the campers were in and out from the pub campsite and the occasional labrador was stealing hearts but nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff. This is a proper country pub, as warm and cosy as a storybook cottage and it's charm appeared to be working on a nearby American couple who's fantasies of an Olde English Country Pub had all just come true. I was on foot and was a few miles from the nearest town but lo and behold one of my new-found companions insisted on giving me a lift... As I exited the bar I glanced the "enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" sign again - this pub does what it says on the tin!

Absolutely loved this pub/restaurant. We sat outside with our dog at one of numerous tables and had a delicious Sunday lunch. So much flavour in the meat and the roast potatoes were the best. A bit pricey but worth it for the setting, the food, the service and the landlord brought out some steak pieces for the dogs to share. Amazing.
