We went to the café twice as on arrival we were ready for a cuppa and enjoyed lovely brownie, blondie and coconut slice. At lunch we enjoyed Lorne sausage sandwiches and salmon panini. The coffee and tea were very good quality too and the prices were very reasonable..

Located to the side of the castle entrance so good for arrival or after visiting the castle. A limited menu on offer but maybe due to covid restrictions. Friendly service, while there’s plenty of indoor seating we opted to sit outside in the courtyard which was pleasant, table socially distanced. We had sandwiches and tea, which were very good.

We stopped at Cawdor Castle on a bus tour from our cruise ship. The castle interior was weird, but the grounds were great and so was the cafe. They had excellent scones.

Amazing quality soups and breads for a tourist attraction. Our private tour guide said it was better than most area eateries and he was right.

After a very nice tour of the castle and gardens we decided to try their cafe as we had a long drive ahead of us. We each had a sandwich. The ingredients were very fresh. Not always the case in cafes like this. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. We choose indoor as there was not much shade the time of day we were there. The staff was very friendly. If you you take the tour around meal time it is worth stopping in to eat.

Muchas gracias!

We enjoyed having lunch out in the courtyard tables of the cafe before taking our tour through the castle as the sun was out and weather was warm. My Curry Chicken Salad Sandwich was very good along with a small bag of Salt and Vinegar Chips and the rest of our group liked their sandwiches (ham and cheese) as well. They also had a food selection of pastries. Cafe style, you order, pay find your table and they bring the food to you when ready. The staff were very friendly.

We had lunch here - along with most of Scotland - after walking one of the nature trails. The menu was good with some nice options and a very local feel. Prices were what you'd expect for this kind of thing. Service was helpful and friendly. All in all, a standard kind of attraction cafe but the menu selection moved it up a notch.

Stopped in for tea after touring the castle. The tea was some of the finest we have had in country. Desserts were delicious. The chocolate cake was fantastic. Rich and very moist. The girls serving us today were the finest. Very attentive. Friendly. Spoke about the castle to our table. Totally unexpected from such a small cafe. I hope management reads this as the entire staff should be recognized for their outstanding performance.

I visited this restaurant during a tour of Cawdor in Scotland in July 2015. I went there with local friends for dinner one night, and immediately loved the homey atmosphere. The food was delicious - I had a perfectly cooked burger, and even tried the haggis (which I was surprised at how much I liked), and treacle pudding that nearly rotted my teeth from its sweetness (only in the best way ever)!

Inevitably, the presence of only one dining option at the castle enables this cafe to be expensive as they capitalise on the tourist dollar. Having said that, the experience is worth it as the staff are kind and friendly and the food freshly prepared and tasty. I took mine out into the flower garden to eat and enjoyed the surrounds at the same time. Bringing your own drinks from home would help offset the cost.

The smattering of different languages spoken by tourists of various nationalities gives the cafe at Cawdor Castle a welcoming cosmopolitan feeling. This lunchtime the cafe was not too busy, popular seats were in the outdoor courtyard I ordered a hummus and tomato sandwich from the menu (£5.95) that was served reasonably quickly to our table. This was presented with salty crisps and some salad leaves a few of which had seen better days and had turned to slime. This was the worst hummus I've ever tasted in that it had zero flavour and appeared as a pallid grey sludge alongside the rather sweet white bread. The tomato added fibre to the dish but nothing else. The bread itself had been covered with some sort of artificial spread that had the hue of egg yolk. It's not often that poor white bread is the main flavour of a sandwich. I'm appalled that we offer tourists such poor quality food at a major attraction, I'll not be back in a hurry. On a positive note all the staff were very pleasant and were obviously well trained except when it came to dealing with the many wasps that had flown into the cafe. Might I suggest that trying to whack them so they become angry wasps is not the best method of removal!

We had a really nice lunch here. The sandwiches were a tad more expensive than national trust ones but they were way nicer and you get more. The drinks are served in blue crockery which adds a bit of colour the cake selection looked Devine but alas after the sandwich I was full! Good excuse for another future visit though!

We fancied a bite and a drink before doing the tour of the castle. the café is well presented and the buffet style tea/coffee room is tidy and clean. There are more meal options in this café that we didn't use but all looked very tasty. As we were looking at the snack options the tray of freshly made scones arrived and I was in my element. This is a classic Scottish tourist attraction cafe. You walk around and sightsee and build up a hunger for something tasty. That's when you head to the cafe. There was a reasonable range of items on offer but we opted for the soup (him) and tea and a scone (her). We were both happy with our selections. The food staff was polite, knowledgeable and helpful. The dining area is attractive and many of the tables have nice views into one of the castle's gardens. There is not one single thing I could suggest that would offer any improvement over what they are doing.

I visited the cafe after touring the castle and the grounds. My wife and sister-in-law loved the scones, and I noticed people seemed to be enjoying the soups that were offered. I ordered a meat pie (mince and onion) and it was delicious. They told me it would only take 10 minutes, but it was more 20-25 minutes. I barely had time to eat it before our tour bus left. But it was delicious. If you are time constrained I would advise going for the soups or pastries, as everyone in our party thought those were delicious as well, and those take no time at all to order and eat.

This was a lovely experience, the food was not ' swimming in grease' as i saw from another review, but it was great to see that the more recent reviews have been validated. We went here for my birthday at the end of october and honestly everything was really lovely . the service was great they were so friendly from the getgo, the charcuterie board we had for starter was very filling and diverse just wish they would have told us what the cheeses were ( i think the brie was from tain though it was familair) but thats a minor niggle that we had no info. the main courses were fab the skin on chips were AMAZING , and its a dog friendly place which we loved , we dont have dogs but we did get to pet some which made our day !

So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Stopped for the night while doing the NC500 with my husband and 8 + 9 year old kids, one of the only places in Thurso that you can have a sit down meal! Absolutely delicious meal, got the chicken Ceylon roll as a starter and it came out piping hot and so fresh!! The flavours were absolutely amazing! My husband had the medium spice chicken Ceylon curry and said it was amazing, the flavours and spices were absolutely spot on! I had the mild beef Ceylon curry and it was equally as good! All cooked fresh to order and you can tell as it was piping hot and so fresh to taste! There is a children’s menu for the fussier eaters, my daughter had spaghetti and my son had a burger and there was no complaints from them! Our first time trying Sri Lanka food and won’t be our last thanks to this restaurant! Staff are delightful as well☺️
