Cavanagh & Baker, Eat. Drink. Enjoy! in Isle of Wight

We had read previous reviews about service so we’re prepared.. we were sat straight down and given menus, quite a few bookings came at the same time. Food order was taken quickly and drinks brought. The waitress was very busy but dealt with it well although there was a young waiter passing the floor but no interaction with the customers not actually sure what he was doing. We didn’t get offered the dessert menu but had enjoyed our meal so didn’t need one. Excellent food and good portion size.

Sign out front saying tables available so in we popped. Waitress came right up and says yes there's a table but we're very short staffed (2 of them on) and service may be slow but they hoped it wouldn't be. Couldn't say fairer than that, so we stayed. So glad we did. They might have been short staffed but no real delays as they were working their backsides off. I had the gourmet burger and my wife had the salmon. Both were stunning value and tasted great. The only criticism would be the onion rings. Slightly overcooked and felt like they'd been marinated / swum in oil. Very very greasy but they didn't stop the amazing flavours from the burger itself shine through. Salmon was juicy, tender and packed with flavour. For taste to price to size ratio this gave great value, what made it outstanding all around was the staff. Highly recommended

Arrived for a reserved table , but noticed straight away lack of leadership and staff training, we were ignored for a while then finally our drinks order was taken about 25 minutes later then waited for a further 15 minutes for them to arrive , the starters didn’t come for another 30 minutes , the main course took its time too , the food was average nothing special ,as a suggestion maybe some nibbles on arrival whilst you’re waiting for someone to come to your table would be a good idea as this place lacks of speed and efficient service , so you’re not wondering why is taking forever to be served and can’t accept excuses if they had a large party before us for the delayed service and most importantly get your staff trained !

Arrived and seated within minutes , staff took extra care to make us feel welcomed - food was nice and arrived in a reasonable time for a large table of us , no issues with the orders ! Cocktails was good the only thing to possibly change is to add a few more options, other than that was very good!

This has to be one of my favourite places to eat on the island. The vibe is lovely and the food is delicious. We also enjoyed plenty of cocktails. Definitely worth a visit!
